We went in because my engagement wore thin and broke In the back. The broken part pinched my skin slightly. My wedding band also needed some smoothing up. We were told the repair would be around $630, as it needed a half shank. We tried to ask about other options, even a new setting. Just to see what was available. They would not even show us any settings, saying it would be around $2k. They suggested coming back in 3 weeks because of the pinched skin. They said my ring size would be different than it has been for 38 years, even though my ring still fit perfectly. Apparently they assumed we were bums and had no money. We were literally given the brush off! My husband recently purchased a pair of earrings for me there and has made several purchases over the years. We went to another local jeweler, we were greeted with a smile, they gave us all our options, showed us new settings. Examined the broken ring closely and said it not only needed a shank but the prongs were worn. We got a quote of almost half of your quote, to do a more extensive repair. We will no longer ever purchase from James Douglas Jewelers again. read more

This is hands down my favorite jewelry store. The store is beautifully stocked and the staff very knowledgeable and friendly! I have taken in gold for cash and trust them explicitly. I also brought in my engagement ring, which I have had for 20 years, to get an updated look. James brought out a beautiful array of mountings for me to choose from that would compliment the center stone of my current ring. When the time came to pick up my ring I was speechless! It was the most beautiful ring I had ever seen!! James helped me select the mounting and he was spot on! Everyone loves it!! Horrible experience! I took my good watch there for a battery replacement. They charged me more because of the type of brand of watch I have. I had a water proof watch, and they indicated they could not guarantee it would still be waterproof, but that I would still be good to wash my hands and things like that. They said just don't jump in a pool with it on. Well, it has only been two days and I look at my watch now filled with moisture and all cloudy!! I have not done anything with my watch on except wash my hands in the sink. They obviously do not know how to insert a battery and get the back on securely. (I believe they actually do it incorrectly so that they can charge you the couple hundred dollars when it needs fixed.) I will never return there again!!! I didn't know this before taking it there in the first place, but my husband had taken a watch there to have fixed, and although they charged him, they never fixed his watch properly either. If you want to keep your watch, do not take it there. Meanwhile, the guy at the booth at the mall had replaced my battery, and I had never had a problem....for years!!! You would think a jeweler would know better! Obviously not! read more

I recently took an antique cuckoo clock to this store because a friend told me that they repair antique clocks. They explained to me how they restore them in detail and gave the price up front. My biggest worry was that i have heard shops keeping clocks up to a year. I had mine back in 4 weeks. It runs perfect. They told me that Bob who is the master clockmaker is there on Wedneadays. I got to meet him and hear everything about my clock and its history. Old school service and he definetly is an expert. I recently shopped at James Douglas Jewelers in Murrysville. The staff was helpful and courteous. I custom ordered a ring for a gift and they recommended we check the size two different times since it was a custom order due to the summer weather. That was a great idea. We are happy with the results, and found really unique products rather than the same choices everywhere else at other stores and were treated great by the staff. Have been doing business with James Douglas Jewelers for about seven years. I find that they are able to service my extensive collection of watches. Just to name a few brands, Rolex, Movado, Brittling, Ebel, and Oris just to name a few. They are very professional as they go about their work. I've had my watches repaired by the factory and they are just about double the price. James Douglas Jewelers performs the same service for less. I find that they do not over charge nor do they try to perform work that doesn't need to be done. They are through on their explanation on what needs to be done, leaving it up to the customer whether to do some or all that has been quoted. They have done such Great Work on my watches that I have even given them my Grandfather Clock, Mantel Clocks, and wall regulator clocks. They have a wonderful clock repairman who does Great Work at a fair price. I would recommend this Jeweler to anyone who wants their prize possessions to be treated well while being repaired or cleaned.
