I came to Henne in April 2023 to repurpose my grandmother's wedding band and engagement ring as a gift for my mother for my wedding in August 2023. The rings were too small for her fingers and so my grandmother gave me these years and years ago since they didn't fit my mom. My mom had no idea of this surprise and her father (my grandfather) passed away a few months after I was born, so this was extremely special to her. I had brought a bunch of old gold jewelry to scrap to cover the cost of the repurposing and a diamond to mount to the center of the two rings that had a gold band to scrap. The first meeting with Madison was to design the new ring. Ultimately, we were not changing much - just resizing and adding a diamond. She seemed to understand the ask. We waited several weeks and they called to say we could come in and pick up the ring. Upon coming in, we met with a different person than Madison. He was assuming we were just paying out of pocket when I reminded him of the scrap value going towards the ring. He searched and had no idea what I was talking about. I insisted we wait until Madison was in to pay. Upon seeing the new ring, I tried it on, and realized they mounted the diamond to the wrong ring. These two rings are identical, however, they need to be stacked in a certain way to be flush. They didn't check for this and put it on the wrong ring. They covered the cost to fix it but it took the same amount of time as the original (4-6 weeks). Luckily, we approached them months before our actual wedding date with all these delays. Once finished with the fixes, Madison later called to tell us to come in on a specific day when she was working. We came in and got the gold appraisal as well. She pulled out all the old jewelry that I had provided but the gold band to the mounted diamond was not in the pile, which I also wanted to scrap. She went to look and couldn't find or access it. We had to come back again another day because the appraiser (maybe) had it locked up in his office. Finally, we came back to pick up the ring and obtain our scrap cash. Of course this was with a third person that I haven't met with before. But, I tried it on, all good and well - we left. Come day of the wedding, my mom cried, she loved it, etc. However, after wearing it the day of the wedding, two small diamonds got lost. Of course she was devastated, and didn't want me to take on the cost of this after paying for the original repurposing. Note that we did not have a crazy wedding nor is she the type of person to flair her hands around. She went upon herself to take it to a different jeweler who questioned the integrity of Henne given that they didn't put this "industry standard" coating on the rings to 1. Make them shinier 2. Lock in or seal the diamonds in. She had to pay another couple of hundred dollars out of pocket because of Henne's lack of professionalism and quality. I personally will never go back to Henne for any repurposing needs. They did not make this process easy or fun in any way (which was supposed to be a nice surprise for my mother) nor did I feel like my valuable items were in safe hands. Being such a recognizable and reputable name in Pittsburgh, Henne Jewelers was the obvious choice when I wanted to have jewelry from my grandmother repurposed into other pieces. I worked with Juliet and she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable in guiding me through the entire design process, providing recommendations for settings or designs I might like. We consulted with one of their jewelers, Patrick, who was transparent and honest when advising that one of the pieces was likely too delicate to separate. This was very much appreciated as it wasn't a risk I wanted to take with something so sentimental. After a few weeks, I received a call that my pieces were ready - they turned out better than I could have imagined. I had a ring replated and still can't get over how gorgeous it is. I also had an old pendant redesigned into a more modern setting and wear it almost daily. Their craftsmanship and exemplary level of service is priceless! Pretty sure this business is running a scam of some sort. I placed an order with my credit card and my shipping address and billing address are the same. Two days later I received an email from them asking me for a government ID, which I found very odd. I called the number on their website and reached someone who said the person I emailed and ALL of the managers or decision makers are out of the office in a meeting, and that no one can help me without an ID... getting weirder. Then they said they're unable to look up an online order at all since it's a different system. So, they charged my credit card already, are refusing to ship the item I paid for, can't find my order at all, but still want my government issued ID emailed to them. All for an item that's under $500 btw- not like it's 10k or something. Meanwhile this was a birthday gift that I'll have to go find somewhere else now that they took so long. I'll be contacting the BBB next just to make a record in case this is indeed a scam. But if it isn't, gosh what a terrible way to run a business. We went to Henne Jewelers based on a friend's recommendation after moving closer to this area. From what we were told, our expectations were high. Unfortunately we ended up being completely unsatisfied with our experience and will not be returning or recommending Henne Jewelers to others. --- We came to Henne Jewelers to update my wife's engagement ring setting due to the prongs rubbing against the wedding band. The salesperson who assisted us seemed very knowledgeable and discussed a few options to resolve, of which we chose to add a spacer ring while still updating the setting due to the fact that the current one was slightly damaged. They also highly recommended Mark Patterson to update the setting. Lastly, we asked if they needed a copy of the paperwork associated with the diamond, but was told us that they did not need it. Just over 3 weeks later, we were given a call notifying us that the ring was ready for pickup. We showed up two days later, on a Thursday, about 20 minutes before closing. Upon receiving the ring, my wife immediately noticed something was off right at the top of one of the prongs. She said this to the gentleman assisting us, and he acknowledged something was off and took the ring to the back to have it looked at. Fortunately there was no damage to the diamond and it was just a rather large piece of lint that was stuck at the prong. After it was removed and brought back out, my wife now felt the need to inspect further. They gave her a small magnifying glass to look through. Something else still did not look right so she sent it back again. It was more lint between the prong and the diamond. She started to worry. We have never had this type of experience at any jewelers before. The ring came back again, but my wife still noticed something was off using their magnifying glass, so they took it back a third time. By this point, it felt more like we were at a discount jewelers. At some point either after the second or third time, another worker came over to assist as my wife was visibly distraught and starting to shed tears. Note that this was now slightly past the end of the day, so some workers were cleaning up, and we were the only customer in the store. She started with a good message -- something along the lines of, "my goal is for you to say, yes there was a problem, but Henne resolved it". I am not sure if they were trying to rush due to it being the end of the day, but from my perspective, it would have been perfectly acceptable and likely preferable to say something along the lines of, "We are sorry, but if it is ok with you, we would like to keep the ring here and do a more full inspection tomorrow to ensure everything is 100% correct." They also brought out a new appraisal they did for the diamond after receiving the ring back from Mark Patterson since they did not have one on file. Note above that we did offer to give them a copy of our paperwork and they could have just asked us anytime if they needed it. Their appraisal showed the color of the diamond was 4 grades lower than our original paperwork. I will note that our original paperwork was EGL, and theirs was GIA. From what we could find, generally GIA is more strict in their evaluation, but the difference seems to generally be at most 1 color grade difference. Additionally, it also seemed preferable to evaluate the loose stone, rather than in a setting which can affect the evaluation. With that in mind, it seems the appraisal person did not notice all of the lint causing a yellowish tint to the diamond. Nor did anyone else notice the lint in the QA process, if there was one, when receiving the ring back at Henne. We said that we did not want to take the ring today and that they should look at this more closely. We also sent Henne the original paperwork we had for the diamond. When my wife called the next day to check in, they told her the ring is ready for pickup. We returned on Saturday to pickup the ring. At this point the ring seemed to be in proper shape. Honestly, we just wanted to check the ring, pay, and leave. The woman who came in to help out after my wife was distraught helped us again. She unfortunately decided to start rehashing all the details making my wife start to get upset at the whole situation again. I eventually put a stop to this conversation. As a final note, she did give us an ultrasonic cleaner, which was a nice gesture. To preempt John H. who appears to respond to most of the reviews, when my wife was visibly distraught, he was at the store, but did not come over to ask or help with the situation. I am unsure of their protocol, but as can be seen above, the situation was handled poorly and I would assume the business owner would attempt to resolve things, in particular when the store was close to closing and not busy. read more

Sharon did not just sell my son a ring, she educated him on the cuts and clarity of diamonds. It was such an informative session. While preparing to pop the question to my now wife, I needed to have a family Diamond examined that I would be using in her engagement ring. Upon entering the store, I was immediately greeted with a warm hello from the staff and asked if they could help with anything. I was a little nervous walking in, but they made me feel welcomed and appreciated the second I stepped through the front door. Salesperson Nina sat down with me and was extremely knowledgeable about the Diamond I had brought in. She was even able to give me an estimate of when this Diamond was probably first cut. I needed to have the Diamond reset in a new setting. Due to the diamond no longer having a girdle, Nina was able to clearly lay out my options to safely have the Diamond reset and protected for as long as possible. Ultimately, the stone was sent to be "re-girdled" for a few weeks. Nina kept updated me each step of the way. She made the entire process as seamless as possible. My partner and I first went to Henne on May 4. William assisted us in picking out a setting we liked for a family diamond to be reset in. Since the setting was larger than would accommodate our stone, William explained the setting would need to be custom-made and because of this could not provide a quote on cost, but would follow up the next week with an estimate. We did not hear back. Assuming we misunderstood the next steps discussed with William, we emailed him on May 17 and received no response. We then reached out to Henne to set up an appointment with an appraiser. It was explained to us that the appraiser would be able to provide an estimated cost for the reset. We had an appointment with Jennifer on May 20 and were also helped by William. It's worth noting that when we arrived, despite having an appointment scheduled there was some level of confusion and disorganization with locating our information and setting of choice. It was explained to us that information we provided them on May 4th was never entered into their system. William and Jennifer looked at our diamond and assured us they could get back to us with a price no later than Wednesday the 24th. When we asked who we should contact if we do not hear back we were assured that would not be necessary and they would certainly reach out. We never heard back from anyone at Henne. Additionally when I inquired about their procedures to ensure my family diamond would be kept safe and secure while being reset, should we proceed with them, we were promised that we had nothing to worry about with Henne- however no actual details were provided on how they would safeguard our diamond. It was clear from our experience that Henne did not prioritize completing their action items to obtain our business nor do they value empowering prospective customers with the necessary information to make informed decisions on these milestone purchases. Ultimately Henne did not seem interested working with us to reset this precious heirloom nor were they transparent about their availability to do so. It is also worth noting that my partner and I found working with William to be very peculiar and uncomfortable. The second time we met with him he repeated verbatim information about the store's history he shared with us during our first visit. Additionally, William proceeded to tear up recounting his late mother to us. I have empathy for William's loss but this hardly felt like the appropriate setting to disclose this information, especially given the dearth of relevant information we received from him. Needless to say, our experience at Henne was frustrating and we would not recommend. During the time we waited for Henne to deliver on their action items (as of this review, one month and counting) we found the ring and service of our dreams at Jared. Jared's service has been streamlined and prompt, highlighting the failures we encountered at Henne- they returned our calls in a timely manner, had the setting we were interested in waiting for us at a follow up appointment, were able to provide us with all the information we have requested including cost, timelines and measures to keep our diamond safe while it is reset and were appropriate and professional during all our interactions. read more

I came here on behalf of my boyfriend as he needed new batteries in two of his watches. I'm not sure how this place compares to other spots in terms of pricing for the watch batteries, but the cost here was $25 per watch. One of his watches requires a very specific tool in order to change the battery, but Henne Jewelers had the tool, which was great. The staff was SO incredibly friendly here and although I was a walk-in it only took about 30 minutes for the watches to be complete. I really enjoyed walking around the store and checking out the gorgeous jewelry in the cases. I hope to return again one day! read more

We had little information about the make and material but they figured it out quickly, quoted us $30 and gave us a window of two weeks. It was actually ready within a few days! I visited Henne Jewelers for the first time this Saturday and had a fantastic experience! I worked closely with the very kind, helpful (and patient!) Debbie for probably at least an hour. I showed her some items that I inherited and gave her vague ideas of how I wanted to transform the pieces. She really saw my vision and helped me decide which direction to take the pieces! I am having a custom necklace with a name tag designed and can't wait to see the final product. Since I was in the jewelry store for so long, I also overheard several conversations between sales associates and clients and was very impressed. One young guy shopping for an engagement ring was even given a book, The 5 Love Languages, and was told that it's a gift that's given to any customer shopping for engagement rings. I think my situation was out of the ordinary and the staff were incredibly busy this day. But I'll probably just get my watch replaced elsewhere... Took my Movado to get a link repaired. Told me the link would be repaired that day, and they would call me when it was done. They close at 8:00 pm. I called at 7:50 to see if it was ready because I hadn't heard from them, and they put me on hold. Finally after a few minutes told me that they couldn't repair it... so I rushed to the store a few minutes before closing to get it. My watch is my good luck charm and my flight for a conference talk leaves early tomorrow morning! So basically poor communication and weren't capable of repairing a watch... even if they weren't able to they could've at least called to let me know. I collect mechanical chronographs made between 1930 and 1980, and I have been looking for a local watchmaker to take care of my CLAs and watch repairs. After several bad experiences, I decided to give Henne a try with a simple job: replace the scratched crystal of a 1965 chrono. Disappointing result: the watchmaker claimed he could not do it because he could not find parts, in particular the gaskets. It was all politely done, mind you, but when I asked if he had opened the case to look at the gaskets, the answer was no. When I asked how did he know he could not replace the gaskets without even seeing them, I got no response. Twenty four hours later, I replaced the crystal myself, with new glass and gaskets purchased from Esslinger, a wholesale watch parts supplier. True, I saved myself some money, but the lack of professionalism really bothered me. I guess I will continue shipping my watches to Cincinnati. Back in the late 90's, I purchased a battery-operated, luxury, Swiss watch. I purchased from another store in Pittsburgh. I loved the watch and it was bulletproof. However, when the watch battery died, I took it back to the store and they could not change the battery; or they could change it, but then could not properly reseal the watch. I was told they could send the watch to the manufacturers stateside office in New Jersey, where the battery would be changed and the watch would be resealed and certified like new. I obliged, as I had ruined watches before by thinking that they were waterproof and not water-resistant! I did not want to take this chance again. Three weeks, and $150+ bill later, I got my watch back and all was great. Fast forward another 4-years... my watch battery died again, but I had recently heard a radio advertisement from Henne about Chris, their Certified Master Watchmaker on premises. I learned that he can change batteries and properly re-seal a watch, meeting the same standards as if I had sent the watch to New Jersey. I visited Henne, dropped off my watch, and got it back within an hour: battery changed and resealed. And for much less than sending it to NJ! When I decided to buy an automatic Omega watch, I kept Henne on my go-to list for shopping. I had an idea of what I wanted, based on looks alone, as I am not that familiar with the movements/complications of watches and different price points associated with them. They walked me through Omega's Speed, Sea and Vision collection and dutifully explained the differences and related price points of each watch. Then, they asked me why I wanted the particular watch that I had chosen (the Hour Vision). This surprised me as I had never been asked why I wanted something from a retailer! But my answer allowed them to direct me to a Speedmaster Omega watch that not only matched the look that I wanted, with a quality, robust movement, but at a price that was significantly less than the Hour Vision that I had originally wanted. Very happy with my recent visit to Henne Jewelers. I have been wanting/pining/needing diamond studs for a loong time. The "other" studs that I had purchased as a "consolation attempt" were nice, but they were just not cut out to replace or imitate the fire and ice that is diamond. There are MANY places to shop for diamonds... malls, buildings, interwebs, and I am pretty sure that I covered them all. It was frustrating and a little overwhelming. These are earrings that i want to have for a looong time and I would love to be able to hand-down to my daughter one day (after I wear the heck out of 'em). It is a committment purchase and I was treating it as such. On the recommendation of a friend (who had sensational diamond stud earrings) - I headed to Henne in Shadyside. They have been around for 120-some years, so they must be doing something right, right? There were colors/carats/clarities to be discussed - but, for the first time, i felt like I was getting answers from someone who was looking out for my best interest. They listened to what I wanted (and what I thought I knew from my google searches) and they helped me to make a purchase of which I am confident and willing to express to the world! Had a decent experience here. We got my husband's wedding band at Henne. Our experience selecting the ring was fabulous. Their selection of men's wedding bands is extensive and their staff worked with us to select something that fit my husband's style and preference. After we had picked up his ring and he had worn it after our wedding, my husband noticed the ring kept getting caught on fabrics; there was an imperfection within the band. Upon our return from our honeymoon, we returned to Henne and they promptly got the ring repaired. They were very remorseful and gave my husband a "filler" ring to wear until his original ring was fixed. I think they handled the SNAFU well. This is a very belated review. I went in last April to pick out my own engagement ring, as this is my 2nd marriage and this time I wanted what I liked! Luckily I got William, who is the best and sweetest most patient man ever! I tried on rings until I found "the one", and it was sized and ready for me in less than 48 hours. Later in the year, my fiancé and I went back in to get our wedding rings, and William once again helped us with everything. My now husband just HAD to have a meteorite ring (yes they have them!) and when it arrived, it was too big. Henne's sent it back and got him another one in the correct size in plenty of time for us to elope to Key West in Feb. My rings are beautiful and I love them! This is my first and probably only Yelp review. But I feel as though I should take the time to write about my wonderful experience at Henne Jewelers. This was the first place I happened to look when I started the quest for an engagement ring. I have never bought jewelry for anyone before, so I was as ignorant as a customer could be. I also just got out of school and was only beginning to save some money. John Henne helped me and my S.O. personally for the better part of an hour. Very early on I felt an obligation to inform Mr. Henne both how ultra-preliminary our shopping was and also my realistic price range. That didn't make any difference, as we browsed all over the place. Mr. Henne was personable, kind, and made us feel so comfortable. At no obligation did I feel an obligation to buy. The customer service was among the best I have ever experienced. Mr. Henne gave us his undivided attention, even while other employees sought his ear. We made sure to shop around different places, but nothing came close to the experience we had. Ultimately I decided to go with an heirloom from my S.O.'s family as an engagement ring, but I sincerely plan on taking my future jewelry business to Henne. As far as prices go, we're talking about fine jewelry so the sky can be the limit. But there were certainly a great many items in my price range. Really though, the customer service was incredible. Another wonderful experience with Henne Jewelers. We lost my mother-in-law last year to a long battle with cancer. The loss was especially hard for my wife. Not being able to have a funeral due to stay at home orders did not help. This past mother's day, I thought I would do something extra special for my heart broken wife. I asked her if she wanted to take her mother's engagement ring and get it made into something that she could keep close to her heart. She liked the Idea, so a call was made to Nina at Henne. I've seen her work and knew she was the right person for the job. We met with Nina and she designed the most amazing three stone necklace I've ever seen. She hand sketched it out with paper and pencil. Then we had to patiently wait for the creation to come to life. My wife couldn't be happier. It is a stunning piece that will undoubtedly be handed down to our daughter some day. This is not the best part of the story.................... When I was squaring up payment with Nina, we conspired to turn the gold from the setting into a new band for her to wear opposite of her own. I ended up telling my wife that we scrapped the remaining gold to offset the cost of the necklace; which she was alright with. She said it would just sit in a drawer anyway. Little did she know that her mom's ring was on its way to India to be joined with new gold to make a beautiful new band. It took quite some time to make it back to Shadyside. When I finally got the call from Nina that it had come in, I quickly realized that I needed a plan to get my wife into the store without suspecting anything. I've been on a wait list for a particular watch and told her that I finally got the call that it was in and wanted her to go with me to pick it up. She wasn't all that excited, so I sweetened the pot with breakfast at Pamela's. That did the trick. I talked to Nina about the diabolical plan and she was very excited and willing to go along with it. When the day came, we ended up showing up to the shop a little earlier than expected, so we decided to browse a little until Nina wrapped up her existing meeting, There was a funny moment when my wife was checking out rings and said that she'd like one for her right ring finger. Perfect. When Nina was done, she met us in the watch section, then went to the back of the store to retrieve "my watch". Lol. She brought the ring out on a Rolex tray, neatly wrapped and covered under a cloth. My wife had no clue what hit her. We explained the journey of her mom's ring and how her new one came to be. Lots of tears and hugs were shared. It was an absolutely perfect moment that would have never happened if it weren't for Nina and the gang at Henne. They already had a customer for life, but this experience brought them to an entirely new level in my book. Simply amazing people. read more

This is a review I should have written 3 years ago. ordered my engagement ring there in a rush 3 years ago and received a more expensive setting, but the store didn't charge me the extra and still shipped it to me on time! inquired about some jewelry through phone and email but ended up buying nothing last year, Harton was still very nice and responsive until the last minute. want to buy something again this year, and they are the first I want to talk to ( and yes, I live in NYC!). Harton has been very informative and patient with me again! can't say enough about their good service. if any good memories I have about Pitt, Henne is definitely one of them! read more
