Friendly staff Fast service I got to my hotel and ate the SaTay in the lobby. Dressings we're good but chicken dry, maybe that is how it's supposed to be never had before. Ate my red curry in the room with real silverware and plates. Good flavor - hot temp and hot spicy spicy . BLUF: delicious food at a fair price A friend and I went here for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. The service was prompt and friendly. The food was outstanding. We had the Drunken Noodles and Pad Prikh King. You could tell that each ingredient was very fresh. Vegetables were crisp and cooked just right. My dish was supposed to include black mushrooms, so I was very curious as to what I would get because most places that advertise them don't really give them to you and just substitute some other mushroom. But lost a whole point because of this. We ordered 2 beers and the pored out the wrong color. The date on the bottle was 12/19. I am a huge fan of good Thai places and this one was an excellent choice. My wife and I came here for an early dinner. The town had just hosted a car show and by now most of the crowd had cleared out. My wife and I split the spring rolls which were nice and light and had an excellent peanut sauce to go with. For dinner I ordered green curry at a high spice level. The food had a great balance of heat and smoothness, a perfect combination over chicken, rice, and vegetables. The reason this is a 5 star for me is that the staff was very accommodating and made sure everything was great. For my fish the waitress checked on my dish's spice level, and then brought out 2 additional cups of fish and pepper spices in case I wanted to change the heat myself. My husband and I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. The restaurant was about half full so we had no problem getting seated right away. There were a ton of options on the menu ranging from appetizers, salads and soups, to stir fried, noodle based, curry based or chefs choice entrees. We started with the veggie garden rolls which were filled with greens, cucumbers, avocados, and cabbage dipped in a peanut hoisin sauce, containing actual pieces of peanuts throughout. The rolls were fresh and the sauce was flavorful making for a very pleasant, tasty bite. For my entree I decided to try something different. I ordered Pad Khing- mushrooms, carrots, peppers, celery, and onions with chicken in a black bean sauce. When it came out I expected the sauce to be dark but it was more of a broth than a sauce. Whatever it was, it was delicious- there were pops of ginger, the veggies were slightly crunchy (to my liking) and the chicken was tender and moist. The portion size was way more than I could eat especially when starting with an appetizer. This may have been some of the best Thai I have had. The waiting staff all worked together and were on the same page despite having different ones taking care of us. Our main waiter allowed my husband to sample beers to see what he wanted to drink with his entree and he provided my husband with two spicy options to add to his dish after it was served - a chili powder and a fish oil with fresh chilis. Most places may not accommodate to that level! The prices were really good for the quality and quantity of food. The service was quick and everyone was helpful and friendly. I've been here a few times for lunch-- always been able to find something tasty to eat. They have a reasonable amount of gluten free options for my friend who has celiac. I particularly enjoyed the roast duck curry-- the duck was tender and tasty, with a nicely spiced curry with pineapple and lychee. I really enjoyed the natural fruit sweetness in the curry itself. The palate of the dishes tends towards American which is understandable, but the inclusion of duck, as well as the use of tropical fruits to add subtle sweetness in the curries, lends it authenticity. We came here to have a dinner on Saturday night. They are pretty packed. Many people who are eating her are out of state. The food is pretty good and not too salty. We had a duck spring roll. I loved the Peking Duck sauce that came with. It was nicely fried. The portion was pretty big size. Then my husband had a yellow curry. I had Trio noodle. I love the soy sauce flavors and fresh sea food. My daughters shared drunken noodle. They are a picky eater but they enjoyed the food as well. The downside is the service is super slow. We shared four very enjoyable dishes. The fantasia duck was crispy, with a basil chili garlic sauce. The entree was tasty, but the duck fat wasn't fully rendered. Not a big deal. Next up was spicy eggplant. It had a basil chili black bean sauce, that gave a pleasant amount of heat. We added shrimp to the drunken noodles, for a nice dish. Again, there was a slightly different spicy basil sauce. By then it became clear that the restaurant loves basil and heat as a backbone to many of their dishes. It's hard to argue. Lastly, we added salmon to the panang curry. The salmon was a generous portion, and it was light and moist. The classic lime leaves, and coconut milk curry sauce is a proven winner, and they did it justice. Thai food in Charles Town? Sumittra just made me a believer. read more

Great food and the team there is helpful and friendly. Tuesdays are half price wine nights and well worth it! It makes for a great social outing with groups of friends that doesn't break the bank. My favorite dishes include: crispy basil chicken (level 6 heat), sweet potato curry, cashew fried rice with chicken (level 8 heat), and the drunken noodles. Food is very expensive but for some reason they do not have enough money to hire employees. Theres always a problem with the staff, not enough people. Some nights they have to shut down because they cant run the place. Food quality is excellent. So long as theres a little bit of spice on the dinner its very good. My fave is carrots and cashews, usually with beef. Dessert is also good, I like the mango and rice. Atmosphere is nice. But its a typical family restaurant, so most nights you will hear screaming kids. I visit at least once a month. Its my special treat. read more

Update: I'm not sure what is up but the last several times we went the food wasn't as good. The noodles not cooked through and really dry rice spicy basil rice. I'm hoping it gets back to normal soon. EXCELLENT Thai dinner! We just loved our entrees. I got Kow Pad Ka Prao which was like Drunken Rice. They definitely lowered the quality of their dishes. I have being ordering takeout lunches since the Covid-19 lockdown and not happy with the food (tried different dishes each time) they were sending. Today I wanted to try Praram Tofu with steamed broccoli, tofu was tasteless, one feel like chewing on sponge. Only dish I liked was Drunken Noodles, however last week it came sticky and soggy. Food is good but portion is for little people. They serve pretty much typical Thai food catering to general American public. They don't have enough authentic Thai dishes- I guess they take the common mistake to assume general American public only want to eat dishes which soothe their stomach and that American public won't dare eat real real Thai dishes. My husband and I moved to Charles Town this summer and were so happy to find amazing Thai food near our home. The decor is modern and inviting. Our server, Kevin was fantastic, friendly, made great recommendations and described dishes well. I found the pricing inexpensive and reasonable. The portions are huge. While we didn't have any appetizers or cocktails this first trip, we plan to next time. We each ordered a dish and then shared. My husband had the panang curry with extra chicken. Holy smokes it was amazing. With a little added pepper from the spice tray, it was hard to stop eating it even though we were both full. We took home the rest and it was just as good the next day for lunch. I ordered the drunken noodles with chicken and asked for the spice at a 1 star instead of 3. At one star, it was spiced well and I dialed it up a little bit from the spice tray. Often I am disappointed with drunken noodles as it comes out too oily. Not at Sumittra! It was perfection. Previous reviews mentioned that Sumittra doesn't have their ABC permit yet - not sure when they got it but they do have it now and the bar menu looked wonderful. We were just too tired from moving to have anything other than water. We will be back frequently and plan to bring our out of town friends when they visit. read more

I am SO SO glad that I found this place! I moved to WV from NOVA a couple of months ago and was looking for good Thai food. The staff is very accommodating in terms of making certain dishes less spicy, i.e. the Drunken noodles. They are delicious here and include really fresh veggies. I have also tried the Pa-Nang curry which is really tasty and the Por Pia (spring rolls) which are nice as well. Honestly I want to try more items but I love these two entrees so much it's hard to try something new! I will keep coming back! read more

The first great Asian Fusion restaurant in Charles Town. This is very well the best restaurant in town. The decor was great, the atmosphere upbeat, busy and very trendy. We were greeted right away and seated. Service was friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. The food was absolutely wonderful. Wonderful blend of flavors blended to create a fantastic food experience. The portions may actually be too large. They could maintain their pricing, limit their portions and still have their rating. The herbs were fresh. We had the Moo Yang, a grilled Thai style marinated pork loin served with green papaya salad, jasmine rice and Thai style sweet chili sauce. I have never had a better pork loin anywhere. It had the presentation of a steak and was perfect cooked, served hot and had a perfect searing on the outside while very moist and tasty. Beef dumpling for appetizer that tasted great and the sauce was wonderfully complimentary of the dumplings. Bangkok beef stir fry, with a hint of fresh ginger. Tasted great! I've been to different Thai places in northern va which is way more competitive for restaurants but this Thai place does not fall behind AT ALL. Great food, service, and ambiance! We had the crispy shrimp appetizer which was excellent to start your mouth and grow your appetite. The crispness was right on and the shrimp were perfectly cooked. The sauce was also extremely savory and went perfectly with the fried shrimps. We then had pad Thai and panang which were definitely better than most places we ate in Northern Virginia. I've been to so many thai places, some that are rated as the best in DC or the San Francisco Bay Area. I read the reviews and hoped they were true so I was not surprised the food here was amazing! Stopped in Saturday night at 6:00pm. We were seated quickly and the thai iced tea was fresh and not too sweet. Elizabeth our server was very attentive and nice. We ordered gyoza, yellow curry, and a cashew chicken dish. The gyoza were pretty standard but the house sauce with them and the seaweed salad were delicious and unique. The curry was the hit! My bf was eating it as soup after we'd finished all the rest. The cashew chicken stir fry was also very good! The decor is beautiful and the bathrooms are cleanly. Can't wait to visit when we're in town again! They were pretty busy when we left around 7:30 so obviously this place is a favorite. read more
