I had some apprehensions whether getting Chinese food in Winchester was worthwhile, and it took some research for me to land on this spot. I picked it because it had a clearly labeled vegetarian/vegan section, but also because it had some distinctive menu offerings beyond the typical. I tried what they call a "bear paw" tofu, which is like a braised preparation, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, delivered in a mild, savory sauce that tasted like a three cup preparation. I ate it outside, and when some bird crap came flying down from above me, it landed on my hand as I was serving my food, leading to a moment of disgust but then an oddly thankful sense of relief as if it had missed my hand it would have ruined this excellent dish. I got some sauteed cabbage for fiber, which was nicely blackened. The star of the show, however, was a shredded tofu and pepper dish. It was smoked tofu, and I think they undersold it by not advertising it as such because this is a great flavor combination. Their packaging was not five stars, and leaky containers left me with a bag full of very spicy oil on the bottom, which was thankfully contained at that point. But the food was quality, and the portion for the money was respectable. It exceeded my expectations. read more

We tried Uncle Chen for the first time and it absolutely delivered. The teriyaki chicken was solid, but the real standout was the sweet and sour chicken--perfectly crispy, not soggy, and actually full of flavor instead of just being coated in syrup. We ordered three servings and it still wasn't enough. We also got a California roll and a rainbow roll, both fresh and well put together--not the sloppy, low-effort sushi you sometimes get at places that try to do everything. What really set this place apart though was the surprise: they brought out a jumbo tuna blanco roll on the house. That alone would've been impressive, but it was easily one of the best things we ate--fresh, flavorful, and done right. That kind of move tells you everything--you're not just another order to them. We've ordered takeout several times before and enjoyed the food but it has been a while. They have a new online ordering system that was user friendly and efficient. Our order was ready quickly. The young man at the counter is always SO nice! We ordered the Golden Dream Roll and it was delicious!!! The downside of our exp was our entrees. My Husband ordered the Sesame Chicken and I had the Beef Lo Mein. He said his Sesame Chicken was okay but the chicken tasted as if it may have been frozen. The texture was off. The noodles in my Lo Mein were really good but the beef was awful. It was literally inedible, tough, gristly, stringy. We had a side of Dry Fried Green Beans and they were amazing! Over all we feel the restaurant has consistency issues and perhaps the menu is too large to execute well. Not sure if we will go back because it's an expensive experiment to determine what is good and what isn't worth ordering again. read more

Solid Chinese for the Winchester area but could use improvements. Finally tried this place after hearing mixed reactions. Came on a Friday night and got seated instantly. I noticed a lack of ambience as no music was playing so you could hear all the loud table's conversations pretty easily. Our server seated us quick but after we ordered two waters and a soda, I literally had to flag them down to remind him after 15 minutes (this was after my appetizer had already been delivered). I don't know if it was just the side of the restaurant I was on, but it was hot in there with little airflow. Luckily, my main entree made up for a lot of this as it was pretty tasty and decently prepared. A little too much sauce on my General Tso's (included in my Dragon & Phoenix) but other than that, I enjoyed it. First time trying this place out and overall had a good experience. It was busy when we came in on a Friday night but the place is pretty large and we were promptly sat at a booth. We ordered drinks right away and my husband ordered the crab appetizer. His app came out pretty quickly but still no drinks and it was a bit hot in the restaurant. We had to flag down our waiter to remind him to get our drinks. That being said my hubby's crab appetizer was delicious. While waiting for our dinner entrees we did notice there didn't seem to be any music playing and we could hear the conversations of the people at the tables near us, which I didn't love. Especially because they were talking about a movie I had not seen yet and I didn't want to hear any spoilers. Both our entrees were very good and freshly prepared. All of our servers were very kind and the place is very clean. All in all we had a good experience and I think we would come back again to try some other dishes. read more

I'm a bit confused by this place. I have eaten here twice, with the first dinner experience absolutely terrible and the second for lunch pretty good. For the first experience I was excited to find a place that served Peking duck in the Winchester area. Promptly went there to try it out. The restaurant itself is large, clean and well lit. Service, a bit spotty to bad. Although not busy, our server was not at all attentive and had to flag down another server to get drink refills and some condiments. And the duck...it was horrible! Dry, tough and overcooked to a point where it tasted like it had sat around all day. Shame on me for not sending it back. My sweetheart had a bland beef and broccoli dish that was not memorable. The second experience was a lunch date with another couple. Service was fine and the lunch items, General Tso's chicken and beef lo mein were both fresh and tasty. So that is the quandary, Jekyll and Hyde?? Not so sure and need to give them another try. I would really like to get a good Peking duck...but maybe not here?? read more

Ufff finally a place around here with delicious Asian food options. Environment: Clean, open and well decorated. Service: Due to this restaurant just opening I'm not going to ding this too hard. However, servers definitely need more training on the menu and how to properly describe the items. Most of the servers are college students so no issue there just some training is needed. Otherwise professional. Food: We had the combination fried rice and it was okay but lack just a tiny bit of more flavor or salt. The seaweed salad was delicious and fresh. The hot and sour soup was the best in this area. The egg drop soup can be improved but wasn't terrible. The crab tempura and spicy shrimp sushi was our favorite. Top notch and scrumptious. We tried a plethora of small plates like Bao buns, shrimp dumplings, both hot sour soup and egg drop. The seaweed salad was fresh with great flavor! All the food was presented very beautifully and the taro bobas were great! Overall, super excited to come back and support this business. If I could - I would rate the food 4 stars - and the service two stars. Considering that the restaurant has only been open for a week - I believe it has promise - just some kinks that need to be worked out. The atmosphere was quite inviting - they have done a nice job transforming this space. The menu is a bit overwhelming- many many options (as is typical with lower end Asian restaurants). There were limited to no menu descriptions and the servers were not able to answer all questions regarding the menu. Service was very slow. The young man that waited on us wore AirPods - maybe I'm old school but that bothers me. We had a party of 4 - food was brought out one entree at a time. Again - maybe I'm old school but in our family we don't eat until everybody has their plates. We probably waited 10-15 minutes before all in the party were served - and by then food for others was lukewarm at best. Drinks were not refilled without asking. The positives? The food was good - obviously freshly prepared. It was not one of those Asian restaurants that has 200 menu items and it all tastes the same. Prices were very reasonable. We had a combination of apps, Bento boxes and entrees. I wish I had taken pictures....but alas did not. I presume we will be back - maybe even for takeout. I hope the owners find this review useful in working out the kinks. The restaurant definitely has a spark that just needs nurturing. read more

I've eaten here twice before and it was very good. Both times I had beef with broccoli. Very good! So, when we wanted some take out the other night, Monday, to be exact, I suggested that we try Uncle Chens. We had beef with broccoli, wonton soup and chicken on a stick. The wonton soup was a beef based broth and very salty for our taste. We ate half of it and threw away the rest. The beef with broccoli was overcooked and not at all fresh and crisp like I had had at the restaurant and the beef was chewy and full of gristle. Not very good at all. The chicken on a stick that I have had at other Asian restaurants is usually tender and marinated and grilled. Very tasty. This was dry white meat rolled in some dry spices. It wasn't awful but it was dry and flavorless. Overall our take out experience was not real good. I don't know, maybe the Monday night chef is not as good as the other chefs when I had eaten there before? If I recall correctly I had eaten there once at lunchtime and once at dinner time. Both times the food was very good. No complaints! Could have just been an off day! I'll definitely go again sometime. Just not sure I'll do take out. Sorry Uncle Chens! First impression of interior is it feels like a cafeteria. Not cozy. Very bright lights. Waitress was not very knowledgeable of menu. Apps were ordered: 6 chicken wings (4 were brought out. she did get the other two when my husband said something) and a geisha sushi roll. The sushi was the highlight of the meal and at 14$ a good value! Very fresh and tasty! Main entrees were General Tsao (my husband said it was just ok at 18$) I got Pad Thai which was mild but good but not really good. Our meal was ok but for the money we spent I think ChinaTown or Chopsticks is better. We did take home an order of walnut chicken and another geisha roll for our son and those 2 items came to nearly 42$ The walnut chicken had to have been overcharged. Way too much. Quantity and quality of food seems to be degrading as they are growing. When first opened quality and quantity were unsurpassed, now not so much especially considering that their pricing is at a premium compared to other choices for Asian cuisine. read more

The menu is extensive, but "assumes" the customer is familiar with everything - there are no helpful descriptions, and the server did not have helpful information. The food we ordered was delicious, but the dinner portions were rather small, and the prices were high for the portion sizes. The only beverages (besides water) were offered "self serve" from a cooler near the entrance, which seemed "unprofessional" for the venue.
