I feel quite torn about reviewing Summer Moon and have already waited too long to do so. Their coffee tastes really good - smooth, just the right amount of strength and flavor. Their prices seemed a bit steep to us, when we first moved to Austin. We then started noticing us feeling that way about most coffeeshops in ATX. Coming from another big coffee-drinking city - Chicago - it was a bit of an adjustment. And yet, we sneakily kept coming back here and justifying it. As a customer I have never been so disrespected in my life. Ray the cashier with the septum ring and green eyes was yelling with an attitude after I confronted the way I was rudely spoken too on the phone earlier. The way this location treats people terrible. the manager brooke on duty didnt seven step in while Ray was yelling and causing a scene showing no respect for their customers. if this was Starbucks they both would be fired. My favorite coffee shop in Austin. It's tucked inside a corner in this hidden plaza but it's a neighborhood gem and definitely worth coming to. First off, they roast their beans over wood rather than gas. They give a different taste which is delicious and different. I ordered the special half winter moon which is their nitro cold brew and homemade sweet cream poured in with medium sweetness. Once I sipped this drink, it was one of the best I've had. It's creamy, slightly rich, and had a great vanilla blend to it. It didn't taste artificial either! This coffee shop is family friendly and should be on Austin's top coffee map. They have great service and their employees are more than happy to educate you on their roasting. One of the employees was so helpful and gave me recommendations on what to order. I'm so happy I made the choice to come here. It was amazing and definitely one of the best cups I've had so far this year. All I can say is what happened to this location? This used to be my go to for coffee in Austin. The employees were always cheerful and served delicious drinks. For the past 6 months, the employees working are completely unprofessional. They are not hygienic and smell bad. Completely unfriendly and absolutely no talent in making drinks. Not to mention, they don't wear masks at all while working their shifts. Considering how much the Covid virus is mutating, they are completely being disrespectful to others by not wearing a mask. Today, I received the most disgusting coffee ever - just take a look at the picture of all the coffee grounds at the bottom of the cup. The staff working accused me of being rude to them when their behavior towards me was completely repulsive. A woman chased me outside the store as I was in my car leaving the parking lot and she was supposedly an employee of Summermoon. I will NOT be returning to this business unless they make serious staff changes and the quality of their coffee greatly improves. This is truly such a disappointment. read more

This is not a 4-star joint. Service was brusque and diffident. By Austin standards I'd say rude. They left me standing awhile. The girl who finally took my order never made eye contact. I asked about iced drink sizes and she grabbed a hot coffee cup. I reminded her I wanted iced and she rolled her eyes and said it was for another order. Waiting for my drink the kiddos behind the bar were busy discussing their, like, favorite pho places. Like, oh my god Becky, I'm going to LA just for the pho, like it's amazing. My drink rolls out with the barest acknowledgment of my existence. Normally I tolerate gruff service from baristas if the coffee is good- I am amused by the cranky artiste vibe - but here the espresso is weak and can't possibly justify the utter disregard of my humanity. The iced latte came with 4 shots (appropriate) but I could barely taste it. My cousin recommended this place for good coffee. I decided to try their summermoon, which is moon milk w/ espresso. Moon milk is basically a blend of their secret ingredients that makes it super rich, creamy, and sweet. Summermoon is iced whereas wintermoon is hot. The drink was a bit too sweet for me, but still tasty. If I were to go next time, I'd try the half moon (1/2 moon milk, 1/2 skim milk with espresso). Parking sucks here. This is definitely one of my favorite spots to study, and I'm sad it took me so long to check it out. Moon milk is definitely addicting. It's like melted vanilla ice cream!! I like the 3/4 moon and find it to be the perfect amount of sweetness. For reference I like my coffee drinks pretty sweet, so if you don't then try the 1/2 moon if you like your drinks sweet but not too sweet. Pros: awesome lattes, not too loud just light music, has water readily available (stay hydrated!!), private parking lot, decent bathroom available and lots of outlets Cons: pretty far from UT campus comparatively, and not a ton of space to study considering it can get pretty busy/crowded. Sometimes hard to find seating to study. Also when it gets packed it can be hard to find parking. Parking is in front by the entrance but also in the back of the building. Pro/con: delicious lattes but they're not strong if you need some buzz, but they have other options so maybe just get their black coffee if you're looking for a kick. However since the drinks are sugary they do get you hyped and ready to study. read more

I'm so thankful to my friend who took me to Summer Moon. This Austin local cafe serves amazing coffee. I tried their half moon first and it was good but too sweet for me and for my second visit, I got quarter moon. Quarter moon is still sweet - I would say enough sweetness of white chocolate mocha from Starbucks. The interior of the cafe was industrial and I wished I could sit and have some time to do work or study because it was such of my type. This place has been sitting in my bookmarks for months and I finally decided to come. I ordered an iced caramel latte (my go-to drink) but they don't have caramel here. The barista recommended a half wintermoon because of the hint of caramel flavor mixed in with the vanilla ice cream. I decided to order a bacon, egg, and cheese hand pie too. Both were so good. Wow. I wish I could have this hand our every morning for breakfast. It's fat, flaky, and filling. And no shortage of cheese (plus for that). Coffee was good, the perfect amount of sweet for me. I've been decreasing my reliance in sugar in my coffee so thank goodness this wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Desk space is limited, with a bar-like type of set up in the middle for people to work in community style, side-by-side. It's interesting and not as uncomfortable as I thought it'd be. There are two good-sized tables so if you need a lot of workspace, try to snag one. The small tables and bar-top setup are OK if you want to just read or journal or something or if you have just a laptop and nothing else. I happened to bring some books with me for Bible study so this was perfect for me. And I love that it's not too quiet and not too loud. Perfect noise level for working. Parking is limited, and it overflows into street parking when the lot is full (I think). read more

Came here (7/24/22) this afternoon for some ice chai with moon milk was served an ice latte w moon milk. Kindly asked for what I wanted and they were really rude about it. I didn't get names but I wish I had gone to bennu or any of the other local spots. I even offered to pay the difference and they were still rude about it. I've worked in customer service for years, if someone comes up and says hey I didn't get what I ordered the correct response is to figure out what went wrong. My friends and I were visiting Austin for the first time and stumbled upon this place on Yelp. I personally don't drink much coffee due to medical reasons, I keep it to a minimum. Each cup is different. But this place? I could drink it all day everyday. That secret 7 secret ingredient blend is amazing. Couldn't figure out what it was but it is the best. We went on a Friday, two of us ordered the Wintermoons and the other a Lavender Latte. We fell in love with the wintermoon. Our friend with the Lavender Latte regretted her decision. Saturday morning we weren't close by but needed coffee. We settled for a mediocre spot and were not satisfied enough. By the afternoon we found ourselves close to Summermoon again and had to go in. We got out Wintermoon fixes. The varying levels are perfect.. if you go for the full Wintermoon it almost tastes like a light coffee ice cream. I'm assuming there is crack in that moon milk because omg that (iced) wintermoon latte was delicious. Initially it was too sweet for me (if you're not a fan of sweetness, I'd get a half moon latte) but I think that once the ice started melting, the sweetness mellowed out. I forgot to check what moon milk was exactly made out of, but it made the iced latte very rich and creamy. Definitely recommend! This area has plenty of table space and chairs-- the bar concept is pretty cool! Lots of plugs (including USB ports!) to charge your phones and laptops while you work. The wood really does make this shit extra good! The coffee is very smooth, balanced, and never bitter. The coffee shop itself seems to stay fairly busy which speaks to the flavor and quality of the beans, but also just the vibe of the joint. The parking at this specific location is a nightmare because the lot is so small. The traffic on S First can also be horrendous, so beware. The moonmilk they add to a lot of their signature beverages is sweet, and something that will keep you coming back for more. I think 1/2 moon anything is perfect, otherwise too sweet and rich. I've come early on a Saturday and Sunday morning and had their "dailies" tacos which also hit the spot. The tortillas seem to be fresh/homemade, and the fillings aren't skimpy. I really enjoyed the bean and cheese, the potato and egg was alright - definitely better with salsa. I had a banana bread muffin that was really lacking moisture. Best coffee in Austin hands down. It's hip, really well roasted coffee with really good flavor. I really liked all the hot and iced options and took a while to decide what I wanted. Eventually I settled on a half wintermoon, which is basically an iced coffee latte. It's decadently creamy and dream inducingly good. Not sure what's in that moon milk but it's pretty magical. That said even half sweet is still pretty sweet for my taste so I would recommend 1/4 moon if your sugar preference leans towards less. read more
