I have bought several instruments there over the past few years, the service has been great! I Recently purchased a flute there and I'm super happy with it, and the person helping us, Lauren, was amazing, she let me try out as many different flutes as I wanted and explained them and their brands until I found one that fit me and my mouth shape personally, she also showed me some interesting stuff about how to better care for my flute. She was extrememly helpful and went above and beyond to make our expierience amazing, and I'm super happy with my new flute! read more

I went to rent to buy a violin. But when I told them I do not have a drivers license with me they were very rude and began to ask me several questions about my legal status. They stated that my social security card was from a person from Virginia. They acted in a racist way to international people like me and my boyfriend. not a place that I'll come back. very bad way of treating people. They assumed wrong things and treated me bad. If you love pushy sales situations, where they nickle and dime you for everything! This is the places for you! I went in to rent a violin for my eight year old. It's for a class at school, and her first time trying to play an instrument. Not a bid deal right? Looking for something easy and cheap to first see if she even likes playing the violin. They were telling me I needed all of these additional things, showed me a really nice violin first that was much more expensive. "you need a $20 dollar pad" they said. "You need a $30 stand" they said. "You need shoulder straps for the case AT $5 a piece" they said!!! That's right my friends shoulder straps for the case for $5 extra?!?! Then when all was said and done, they failed to tell me that the first payment was $30 instead of the quoted $15. never again! read more

Excellent customer service! My son dropped his trumpet and needed it to be fixed. We had insurance and so we did not need to pay anything. Since we live in Southern Utah I was not looking forward to driving back up North to pick up the instrument. However they were so kind to drop it off at my door. Upon entering the store we receive no greeting and after wandering the store in search of violin strings for 15 min. not one, of the many employees came and asked if we needed help. 2 other families came in after us and they were promptly greeted and helped. I had to ask an employee for help and the older lady who helped us was SO incredibly rude and condescending. I visited this store upon a recommendation from my childrens teacher but we won't be going back and i will be sure to let the teacher and her students know about our miserable experience at this store! read more

I went in to Summerhays Music Center today in order to pick up some violin pegs for a violin shaped jewelry box I'm carving for my niece and the staff was great, very attentive and eager to help. I had been flat out turned away from the last place I had visited, but here they not only helped me find the pegs I needed, they also helped me resize them to fit the holes I had drilled in the build. I'll definitely be going back for any future purchases I may need. read more

Previously I have had a bad experience at another instrument store but when we came here they were able to work with us and help us upgrade our violin. They suggested reasonable violin brands with the level that my daughter is at currently. They were efficient and didn't try to up sell us. It was all at a reasonable price. Summerhays Music Center in Orem has been a great community resource for Utah County for decades. They are a full service music store, selling pianos, band instruments, string instruments and guitars. They also carry all associated small goods, and have a full service instrument repair shop on premises. I have used their services for years, and highly recommend them! read more

I tried to exchange 2 unopened harp strings for 6 that I needed to purchase (meaning I would owe them) but I didn't have my receipt and they refused to do the exchange stating that they have a 5 day return policy! I left, thank goodness. The strings I wanted to purchase were at least 33% cheaper online! This place is a rip off! read more

I received a piano lamp from my Mother for Christmas which was purchased on 12/24. Unfortunately the lamp was cheaply made and did not balance well on the piano. When tried to return the lamp on Jan 11th with the receipt I was told there where no returns after 5 days, no exception. I tried to explain that this was a gift and something I did not choose for myself and that I was not aware of the return policy and had to ask my mom for the receipt to come back and return it. The only option I was given was to purchase another lamp that was nearly $100 more or buy other stuff that I didn't need. I explained that I was not prepared to spend that money today and I really wanted a refund. I also explained that I had played the violin for 10 years and had purchased my instruments from them. I was angry and left the store. They will not get my business nor my music friends business. There was a sign visible from the counter that said ways to lose your job right in plain sight for customers to see. It might as well have said ways to loose your customers! So tacky, so unprofessional. read more

As a citizen I have a duty to report criminal business practice. I spent 3 years in a court battle against Orem Summerhays over their malfeasance. I was represented by a judge who represented me pro bono because he'd been forced to ruled in their favor for decades of unethical court practices. They would rather pay their extremely expensive attorney to fight and quiet their victims than face the consequences..even when caught red handed consistently. The company's bbb report looks clean because court filings in which they require gag orders are their m.o., leaving no ramifications. There are police reports, however, of the grown men who work there frantically trying to stop child picketers, getting in their faces and threatening two of the 12 year old boys who were gathered on the sidewalk with permission from the police department, Mr. Summerhays lying to police-putting his Salt Lake family in the position to have to testify against him on my behalf, etc. I heard I wasn't supposed to talk about the case but I never received legal notification of that because their attorney moved the case from court to court to prolong the process and give him a chance to find a loophole in the system to dismiss the case by pretending to not know how to get ahold of my attorney or myself. After this traumatic experience, I am too concerned with justice to obey a "gag order" unlawfully obtained. If this saves someone else's children's property it will have been worth it. I now have the support of higher powers than local courts; I've been speaking privately for 4 years about this and no longer have need to fear. I will not live in fear of Bryant Summerhays' abuse of the civil court system any longer. My family's story can and will be spoken. I hope others will speak as well. Whatever you do, don't buy their gift cards! We received a gift card as graduation present and the card itself states no restrictions. When we when to the Salt Lake store, we were told that they don't have "the technology" to accept the gift card and we must use it at the Orem store. When we went to the Orem store, the told us that we can't use it on the sheet music because that's a different business operations. Excuse me ?! This gift card has brought us more trouble than it's worth. read more

I absolutely love Summerhays Music in Orem. We have been going there regularly for about 13 years, since we rented a starter violin for my oldest daughter. I have never had anything but excellent service there. I have children that play strings, brass, piano and a singer too, so we have experience with most of the departments in the store. After we realized my oldest daughter was going to be a serious violinist, I took my Mom's 70 year old violin to their shop to have it repaired. I would never have trusted it with just anyone. My mom had passed away many years before my daughter was born, so this violin has a lot of sentimental value also. They did an excellent job and the price was right too. Recently, I went to Summerhayes to get strings for an electric violin and have my son choose a tuba. I felt like we had red carpet treatment. One employee helped me decide which strings would be the best. She installed the strings while I went into their practice room with my son to listen to him while he tried different tubas. Their tuba expert was in the room with us, then we were joined by the owner. They both helped us to make an excellent choice which my son is very happy with. Although there are other Best in Music stores closer to our home, we like to go to the one in the basement of Summerhays best so that we can look through the rest of the store while we are there. We have bought gift certificates and have had no problems with them. The rental experience was great. We bought a beginner violin that served us well. Now, our newest purchase is an excellent tuba. No regrets at all. read more
