I've been going to State Line at least twice a week since 1998 and "Never" had a bad meal, poor service or found a dirty bathroom.Their food is exceptional and I've never experienced bad service. I love their pulled pork sandwich, chicken plates and their food has always been fresh and just delicious. In 27 years of going there I have NEVER had a menu pick that wasn't very tasty or poor service. I was a high school music teacher and corporate pilot for 20 years and know what bad food and poor service really are! In addition to their great food I love their Thursday night karaoke. As a pilot who has traveled the world I always tried to find the best karaoke bars in wherever I was spending the night. I've been to karaoke bars from Oslo, Norway to Athens, Greece. Hundreds! Looking for the best karaoke bars in town that also serve food. And what I found and come to the conclusion was that State Line, in GOOD OLD BRISTOL TENNESSEE, has the best KARAOKE shows along with the BEST FOOD that could be found around the world. The waitress was great the food was good but the music was so loud that a party of 4 couldn't talk to each other. I asked the waitress to seat us outside but one party had taken all of the chairs and having a good drunk time. I would go back but would never try to sit inside during Karaoke unless you have ear plugs. All in all it was a great place except for the loud music and make believe want to be singers. My head is still throbbing. Advice to management = TURN the music down during dinner. Let it go as loud as possible after 9 pm. read more

We were in town visiting the area with friends. They took us to Borderline Billiards (see their own review), and wanted to get some lunch. State line bar and grill is just a few doors down. This grill, it appears, to be in a converted warehouse space. It is likely the whole block was a warehouse which was sectioned into separate commercial properties. It has 20' ceilings with tin ceiling tiles and nice industrial wood flooring. They have live music and karaoke nights. They have a nice selection of food. Seafood, burgers, quesadillas, wings, salads, wraps ... I tried their mushroom Swiss burger which was huge, juicy and delicious. I needed to cut it in half to figure a way to attack it and a lot of napkins. A fun fact: it is the State line grill because it is in Bristol TN but you cross the street and you are in Bristol VA! Located on the corner of a large row of building, it is easy to find. Parking is on the street so you should hope for the best or plan to walk. Sidewalks are partly covered so weather is not an issue, but crowds would make the trip more difficult. There are also several street buskers which can draw crowds, so just be aware and not in a hurry. You enter on the corner into the main seating area which is sort of separated by a hostess stand and the back of a booth. We were greeted right away and told to sit wherever we wanted. Seating is a mix of booths and tables and we selected a booth next to the window. Our server came right away and took our drink orders. There is also a board next to the hostess stand with listed specials. Looking over the menu, these were just regular menu items at regular prices. Our server returned and took our food order. The food took about 20 minutes to arrive, which was a little longer than expected. The bbq pork sandwich was dry and did not have a lot of flavor. The bun was fine but the dry meat made it harder to chew and took a lot of water to finish. In addition, the homemade chips were very crispy and salty. This plate left me parched even after drinking three glasses of water. The burger, however, was good. The meat was fairly juicy and toppings were fresh. The same homemade chips accompanied the burger and were also crispy and salty. The bathroom was in poor condition and appeared not to have been cleaned in some time. This was brought to our server's attention, who did not seem too concerned. Maybe this is a good place if you are seeking out music and alcohol, but there are many other options if all you want is lunch. read more

Came here Monday night around 6:30 (St. Patrick's day. There were 4 of us and we managed to score a table despite the place being packed. The food & drinks are always good and very affordable. This was a random stop. We decided to eat here because it was an experience. Apps: fried pickles. They were good but kind of normal. Meals: 1/2 rack with coleslaw and sweet potato fries and toast. The meat was really tender and full flavor and they had a lot of meat on them. The coleslaw good it was creamy. The sweet potato fries were ok with a sauce. They provided bbq sauce and honey mustard. When you combined the two it was dynamic. Pulled pork with sweet potato fries and Mac and cheese and toast. The pulled pork was really good and the sauce combo made it something really special. Mac and cheese was average. Sweet potato fries see above. Swiss and mushroom burger with fries. Was really good the meat was juicy and the mushrooms and cheese were flavorful. Salad and soup. The sales was a salad. The soup you can see in the picture was very chunky and very good. The seasoning pulled it altogether. The toast. Oh my! I ordered a side of the toast. It has a special seasoning that makes it phenomenal. I am not typically one to eat bread but I would go back for the toast. The service was good. We were well taken care of during our meal. As I finish my second visit to State Line B&G I have to raise the stars to five. Giving five stars isn't something I do thoughtlessly; to me, five stars means they are the best I have had. State Line B&G has the best wings I have ever had; they have the best sauces I have ever had. Today I got onion rings as a side (my guilty pleasure) and their onion rings were fantastic; honestly, not just really good, they were fantastic. Their wings are the best. Try their Dirty South with Raw Dawg for dipping; in fact, I got their Whiskey sauce on five and Dirty South on five and dipping both in the Raw Dawg. Fantastic! Great place for wings. Hubby and I tried another restaurant on State Street in downtown Bristol. Didn't really know what to expect. Sat at the bar and chatted with the bartender. She mentioned it was 99¢ wings night. So we ordered 20 bone-in wings with four different sauces, for variety. They were very flavorful, crunchy and delicious. Also tried the fried green tomatoes with pimento cheese. Very good. Washed it down with some drinks and listened to the live bluegrass music. Overall it was a great visit. Bar & Grill located in the historic downtown Bristol, TN. The atmosphere was a cool vibe and a popular place for a tourist bite to eat. They had typical bar grub...burgers, wings, BBQ, and fried appetizers. I opted for the wings with 1/2 wings with their dry rub season and the other 1/2 their "Buffalo" wet sauce. The waiter said the dry rub was the house BBQ rub for all the meats. I found to be sweet and faintly a spice hint. The flavor for me did not sit well on the wings. I found the wings to be over cooked and dry. The buffalo wet wings were unimpressive as very little sauce and again all over cooked and dry. My wife had 1/2 lemon pepper and 1/2 garlic parmesan wings. She did not like them at all. Overall out "wing " experience was disappointing. The staff was slow in providing drinks and basic check-ins around the table. It is unknown if it was due to lack of staffing or just a lack of customer service. Had a reservation for a large party made 2 weeks out, Manager called 5 days before to confirm people and said it may be better if we used the whole upstairs since it was first night of trivia. Got in the night of our reservation and they wouldn't seat upstairs due to lack of staff, got seated in different tables on the main floor. Felt bad as they asked others to move to accommodate us on separate tables. I wouldn't have been as upset if I didn't have a reservation that was made and confirmed ahead of time. We didn't just walk in, the restaurant knew and shouldn't have committed a room or floor to us knowing staffing could be a challenge. Food wasn't horrible, good portion sizes, took a bit to get our food but probably because of the size of our party. This place was suggested to me as I wanted a sports bar. The NFL playoffs were on. I had to ask them to change the channel as they didn't seem aware that these games were on. We stopped here, passing through on our way to Memphis. We wanted a local sports bar with basic American food for lunch. The place was pretty empty but also at 1:30 pm on a Saturday. The server "Bob" was great. He was accommodating with the sauce explanation and whether we made good choices once we told him what we were looking for. The menu is extensive, so they have something for everyone. The food was timely, hot, and delicious. The A++ attitude of all the staff was amiable. Stayed in Bristol on our way to DC, and found this place thanks to reviews. Did not disappoint; the service was very friendly and professional, classic bar vibe, and the wings were great. Crispy but not over cooked at all. I did Nashville hot with a side of their hottest sauce (blanking on the name..dawg something I think..)..that was very tasty too but very hot so not sure I could do a whole batch..hubs did bbq and loved them. I don't know what to write for their review. Sometimes you get the best food imaginable, bar food that is. Sometimes it's a friggin' train wreck. Staff..just like everywhere, it is according to which one you get. If you see a really tall guy, ask for him. I think the best thing they have on the menu is the chicken tenders. They have been great forever but the last time we were in there they changed the size of the tenders and the qty you get fro 4 down to 3. I have been here and gotten bone-in wings that were not cooked properly several times. That happened enough times that I quit ordering them. If you have a problem I hope for your sake the guy owner is there. If you have to deal with the woman you get the feeling that she doesn't care if you are there or not. For 363 days of the year, I am sure State Line does OK, but for 2 days, this place ROCKS! When NASCAR comes to town, you have everyone from all over the country, rednecks, city slickers, horndogs and business types, all looking to have a good time. We got there late on Thursday night and the karaoke was in full swing. The KJ did not announce anyone's names, if your song started singing, you'd better be pushing your way through the crowd to the stage, or they will switch to the next song. It was a friendly and rowdy crowd and the music reflected how diverse the crowd was. Country, Oldies, dance, even Summer Nights was sung. People were dressed in "country casual" meaning, sleeveless tees and jeans for the guys, shorty shorts for the girls. On Friday, the crowd was better dressed but still very friendly and active. The music was a good DJ mix of mostly modern pop and dance songs. The bartenders do a great job of quickly getting the drinks out so the wait is minimal even with a crowd at the bar. If I get back to Bristol, you can be sure I will pay a visit to State Line! read more

Utterly reprehensible, unprofessional behavior by the two bartenders working the night of 4/06/2019. My party of 5 arrived and paid good money like everyone else; we walk up to the bar (which barely had any patrons) and took a few minutes to decide what we wanted to drink. I felt something hit my shoulder in the time my friends were making their drink choice. At first I thought nothing of it until I felt it again. And again. I thought it was a drunk patron trying to get my attention but it was in fact THE BARTENDER throwing lemon slices at me!! He was laughing the entire time, and when I asked him why he was throwing things like a child, he just condescendingly told me to "come over here" while beckoning with his hands. I refused, and again asked why he would ever deign to throw things at a patron for simply standing there (not that a bartender should be throwing things at customers anyway). He continued to ignore me whilst a bunch of drunk patrons swarmed me and tried to block me from moving. One of the patrons (a man in a flannel shirt, tattoos on arms and in blue jeans) then took a lemon off the ground and threw it at the bartender while saying "see, it's not a big deal!" Suddenly, out of nowhere, the other bartender started screaming obscenities at me while I tried to wade through the crowd of drunk men; I could barely understand her, but she called me "bitch" frequently and hollered about how I needed to "get over myself, they're just lemons." It was at this point that the first bartender tried to calm her down but she refused to calm herself. A bouncer then showed up and asked ME to leave! While I did end up getting my money back, my four other friends did not which I think is unacceptable considering we arrived as a group and thus left as such. They deserve to be refunded for such a lackluster, unprofessional experience. All in all, I am disgusted that I was subjected to such despicable treatment and that I was singled out and asked to leave when I calmly but sternly questioned the first bartender about his juvenile actions.
