This is the last Petco in the High Desert. It seems busier than ever but they're doing a good job…read moreof keeping it together. When I entered there was someone cleaning the adopted cats area (which is great, and the first time I've ever seen that done here). This location also has a pet grooming area and a variety of pets including reptiles, birds, fish, and they used to have chinchillas but I didn't see any today. The store had a few carts full of supplies ready to restock shelves but otherwise the store was clean. It seems like the store should be bigger as the aisles become easily crowded. I'm not sure if this location has a customer restroom. I believe it does but I haven't seen one or needed to use it. The cashiers are friendly although I didn't hear a greeting or it's possible that it was said so low that the person was either whispering or afraid to greet me as a customer. Not sure. Occasionally, the machines don't work when I enter my phone number but it works when the cashiers enters my number on her screen. Odd since I've been a Petco member for about two decades and a Vital Care member for almost a decade. One thing that I don't understand is why do I enter my phone number (to show I'm a rewards member and gain points) if the cashier gives me the price without my discount? Then I have to tell the cashier every time that I'm a Vital Care member and that it's 20% off my litter, food, etc and that I would like to use my points (if I have any). Sometimes they seem offended like they already knew. Why doesn't the 20% auto-apply to my order if it recognizes a covered item under my benefit? I think that would make it easier for all parties involved. Also, Vital Care recently updated their previous system to a points system which is horrible. They didn't explain to existing members how many points are earned per dollar spent and I shouldn't have to 'Google it' to find the answer. All in all I'm glad they had litter today which is an improvement from some previous visits when their store brand litter hadn't received a delivery.

It does not matter what their…read morewebsite states, they do not honor the "if you're not completely satisfied, you can return your item within 30 days". I purchased a generator in Humboldt while camping, our generator gave up the ghost while out and I needed a replacement. I grabbed the only one they had from the closest store, which was 1 hour away from our camping site. After getting it all the way to our campsite, I find oil all over the unit and bed of my truck. The oil that came with it had broken open and covered everything. Not a huge deal, but there was no way I was driving another 2 hour round trip to get oil. So we just dealt with it. The unit was never used. I called customer service and explained what happened, and they said I could return it to any store, and that I did not have to drive back to the store I purchased it. Great right? Well not if you take it to the Hesperia store. I immediately get told we do not take back used generators. Explained it had not been used, it was in the condition it was purchased 3 days before. The person would not budge, even after I showed my receipt and a picture of the oil all over my truck and the condition of the unit when purchased. I asked him to show me where on their website it said "no returns on generator" and he got very combative and walked away. I called customer service at corporate, and they said they could not override the store and would escalate to the district manager. So now I sit here waiting for someone to make a decision, that according to their own website should not even require any thought at all. Your website says clearly I can return it and the item is not on their non return list. I am going to file a consumer complaint with the AG office and also file a consumer complaint with the BBB. Based upon all the negative reviews, I do not see this being resolved at the store level. I see no reason to purchase from a company whose corporate policy is to ignore its own written policies.

I was excited to have found this place so close to my house and wanted to shop all the stuff they had for birds. While browsing, the smell of cat urine was so thick, it was hard for me to take a deep breath. I normally travel to Corona for my nest boxes and bird items so this wasn't ever a deal breaker for me. My excitement about this place turned to terror when I saw their cockatiels and budgies, severely diseased and suffering with symptoms consistent with the incurable fatal Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD). It's basically airborne and spreads like wildfire between parrot type birds. Symptoms are illness, deformed beaks and feathers, brittle broken nails, balding and slow death. A vast majority of the cockatiels and budgies had deformed beaks, nails and feathers and not a single one had any vigor or life to them. One budgie had a beak that was a complete spiral. A previous reviewer also stated these same symptoms and issues with beaks and nails years ago, so it seems like their birds have been suffering for a very long time. Needless to say, nest boxes and other bird items were a no go for me. I showered and threw away my shoes when I got home because of how worried I was for my birds. Even with diseased birds and the awful smell, I still wanted to give them a chance. I loved the selection of things that they had and variety of different animal food/medicines. It's truly a one stop shop. So I figured, I could just come here for animal feed at this point, if nothing else. The guy working here, recommended I buy the hay that didn't have mold. Err ok..so I said, I'll definitely take the hay without mold. At least he was honest, right? Well, When I went to feed my animals this hay, the entire inside of the bales were covered in mold. I specifically asked him to hold the mold as I was feeding this hay to horses. So, Needless to say, I'll never be back here for anything. Im not going to risk my horses getting colic with their feed, and also not going to risk wiping out my entire flock of birds due to products potentially harboring diseases as well. If you don't own parrot type birds, don't intend to buy animals and don't mind the potential for moldy hay this place is amazing.
