Being in the medical field myself, I know this is unacceptable practice. You don't walk out while your patient is speaking to you. How can you properly diagnose someone if your in such a rush to get to the next patient that you don't listen. Not to mention not taking responsibility for an inadequate staff. I had to call three times to get my prep for a colonoscopy. All she has done is order test. Absolutely NO bedside manner. Find someone who cares, and treats EVERY PATIENT the same. the staff and docs get a good review - thank you for your expertise - your web site is lacking - yes - I know that it is a corp site but it is still lacking - I don't have a pin # - and have never logged into your portal - and I can't log in because I don't have a pin # and can't get a pin except from your office - so - I can't send a message regarding my up coming appointment - and if I don't get my appointment changed - I'll be charged $25 for not changing my appoint before my appointment which I can't change because there is NO message board and NO phone messaging - very poor customer service from a web point of view there is NO way to get a message to anyone until the doors are opened and the lights turned on - hmmm - maybe carrier pigeons would work better read more

Gastroenterology is something most folks do not like to think about, much less talk about. Considering the subject, over the years I have dealt with a number of groups and have been favorably impressed with the service here. COVID-19 has negatively impacted just about everything in our lives, but none worse than getting timely / quality health care. And health care that involves what has lately been referred to as "elective" by the Government and Medical Community has taken a serious hit. So when it came time for what I refer to as "Senior Picture Day," it was a "Don't call us, we'll call you." As facilities began to reopen both Summit and my Primary Care Physician realized that I was over two years late for a "look see!" The backup of scheduled procedures put my place in line about two more months into the future. But after that initial appointment at Summit, I only had to wait another couple of months for the scheduled procedure. Please understand that the priorities set by Government Health organizations responding to the COVID-19 lockdowns caused these delays and not Summit Gastroenterology. They worked with me on both my preparation procedures and scheduling of the actual procedure. Since my only negative experience with these procedures had been a "well respected" area hospital, I choose Lee's Summit Medical Center because of their higher priority on patient comfort and support. Throughout the entire process there was never a time when I did not feel respected, listened to, or valued as a patient and customer. Everything from discussions, preparation, through admittance, post op, and release was dealt with in an understanding respectful manner. Having a followup call later in the day of the procedure and another the following day was much appreciated. Their communications was outstanding. During these times where the entire health care community is trying to regain its equilibrium, the staff at Summit stands out as the model to follow. read more

Let me start by saying I am 42 years old. I have had IBS since I was 15, chronic reflux, three bowel obstruction surgeries in three years (2017-2020) and two bouts of gastritis that required overnight hospital stays. I have been to many gastroenterology offices in KC and seen many doctors and had many procedures. I have never been happy with my GI's. They have all tended to have horrible bedside manner or never remembered me or kept notes. I almost gave up but then I started getting some horrible pains and had a bad ultrasound so needed to get one on my team again. I researched for days and found Dr Brian Alsop at Summit. I scheduled and sent all of my records before visiting him. I also printed all labs I had taken recently and took them with me. Once I arrived I was greeted my an amazing office team and nurse. Then Dr Alsop walked in and not only was he friendly but he had read all of my medical records prior and explained to me things that no one took the time to explain and in a way someone other than a doctor could understand. He was kind and accepting of my holistic and medical views. We came up with a plan and he was clear that procedures were not Plan A or B. He is not quick to scope and poke. Fast forward we had to get new insurance and I have to find a new GI because they do not take our plan. I was in tears. I had nothing but great experiences with every phone call or interaction I had with this team. I messaged Dr Alsop via the patient portal and he expressed sympathy and referrals he thought would be a great match for me. Then his nurse gathered all of my records they had and faxed them over to the office I chose. They also made sure to let me know to contact them if I didn't hear anything in a week. As a physician I have enjoyed being a patient of Frank Totta in the past. He is a caring and dedicated physician. Now that I have Medicare-the office(not him) refuses to see me before I provide my Medicare Number. I have always been told to protect my Medicare Number, which I am trying to do. They will not even make an appointment for me, even though my problem is the same that I sought his help in the past, unless I First provide my Medicare Number . I see no reason as to why they demand this. I am a retired US Army Officer, who has served this Great Country. I would have never thought I would have to be denied service protecting my "private information." I pray for them and health care for all Medicare Patients. Thomas Mathews read more

So far not impressed and I am still trying to just schedule my first appointment. When you call to setup an appointment you are sent to a voicemail box. No chance to talk to a live person. You leave your name and phone number and they call you back. If you miss that call you have to call back and leave another message and if you miss that call back you call back again and so on and so on. Even if you miss the call and call them right back within a minute of them calling you. Apparently they think we can just sit around and wait for their call to make sure we dont miss it. I wonder how they would do trying to make an appointment for themselves with that system? read more

This facility prescribed 40 mg prednisone for my Crohns. It caused mania and anxiety. This I read in medical journals to occur in 6-28 % of patients. Also it is more frequent in females. I attempted to ask for help. The nurses, office manager and doctor seemed totally unaware of this possible outcome. I wrote to a New York Dr. He said it sounded like substandard care. I was very confused why my case was handled so poorly. read more

I've never written a review of any business before; however, I feel so strongly about my own negative experience that have to comment. I was referred to Dr. Totta by a couple of individuals, one of whom is also a doctor but not my regular physician. The other is a good friend who said that Dr. Totta saved his friend's life. I was set up with an 11am appointment on 10/22. On that day I had a work meeting that ran late, so I knew I would be a little late for my appointment. I called to advise that I was on my way and to say I would be a little late. I was told that if I could get there by 11:15 they would still see me. I drove very aggressively and walked up to the front desk at 11:14 both on my watch and on their clock. I was told I was too late and would have to reschedule. I remembered need the ladies at the front desk that one of them told me that if I arrived by 11:15 I would still be seen and that I had met that requirement. One of the front office staff went behind the divider to ask the PA (Andrea) about seeing me and Andrea apparently said no. She didn't have enough courage to speak with me directly though I asked for that opportunity. (I would note here that on my first visit there, they didn't take me back to the patient room until 15 minutes after my appointment and then I still had to wait another 20 minutes to be seen by one of the PA's.) Though I met the requirement outlined, they still refus d to see me. Imagine my reaction when today (10/27), I received a bill for $25 for "cancelling the appointment!" I don't have any intention of paying that bill since I met their requirement. It's been a long time since I've been treated so poorly by a service organization. My issue isn't with Dr. Tott as I never saw him. However, I do know his extended family reasonably and suspect they would be surprised and dismayed at the way I've been treated. While I cannot comment on the level of care the office provides, I can say that if you want to be treated with respect, you should look for a different clinic. read more

Front office staff had me stand outside while they were closed for lunch or before they opened, I forget which--doors weren't open until a few minutes after the top of the hour, as two consumers stood outside, in view, waiting. Doc I saw didn't know much about SIBO & he wasn't open to discussion about any any current research &/or treatments, & referred me back to the APN/office manager, Amy, who was dismissive & awful & only cared ab getting their on-line medical record system up & going. read more
