Billing in this practice is a joke. They bill things that they say are free (3d exams) and never follow-up with the outcome, and then bill you for the procedure. Their invoices literally come with "balance forward" as the billing item, not for what you had done.. They are combative when you try to get answers and they say its your responsibility to know how much you should pay that your insurance doesn't cover! I dont bill the insurance they do, and they are telling me its my responsibility.. Very unprofessional! None of my other health care treats me this way. AVOID THIS PLACE. I was referred by my dentist to Sedona Periodontics. I was overcharged for the surgery 7 months ago over $800 and still did not get my money back. I also was charged for mouthwash and tooth -paste that I never recieved. It is impossible to get hold of office manager, I was told on multiple occasions, by service desk person, that the manager will call me back or she is out of office or she is homeschooling her children. I have been going to Standley Shore's Dental for a few years now, I wrote a review when I first started going there and how amazing they are, well it is 2 years later and I still feel the same. Dr. Barone a very smart women and is ever so wonderful I do not even hate going to the dentist anymore. Her assistant Monica is amazing as well. I am now going to start bringing my 17 year old who has been with the same pedodontist, since she was started to go to the dentist. She was a little nervous going to a new dentist, but after a wisdom teeth consultation with Dr. Barone she is completely relaxed and not even worried about the procedure in which was explained thoroughly to her. I would give this place NO STARS if I could. I won't know for sure how the dental work really is for many months but the people that work there are horrible. They bill the client and the insurance so hold on to your hats if you think you'll get any refund soon. I have been just trying to get them to refile a claim they screwed up, 60 Days later they still haven't and I PAID THEM FOR IT. If I could give negative stars I would. Avoid this place like it's the plague. If you want to be over billed and lied to, than this if your spot. They are scammers and con artists. I was let down one time, only to assured the issue had been fixed. I gave them a second chance and it now has come around to bite me in the butt. They will say it's one price and after I paid we get a bill in the mail for something else. I had asked them after I fully paid to just run through my insurance- just so we can see if something would be covered- the woman said this procedure wasn't usually covered and that's why they made me pay in full, but would submit it to insurance just in case. I now know that is where it all went wrong. We did the scan in April, in July, we got a bill that now is over what the price they quoted me on. Why would they tell me one price, than decide to up the price months later??? That is wrong and deceptive. I refuse to ever be involved with this office. I was referred to Sedona Periodontics by my dentist for gum inflammation around the implant area. I have a dental insurance. At the front desk, "N" asked for subscriber's social security number, which I find it odd. I told them I can't give the number and they said they can't claim the insurance. Because of that reason, I have to pay $87 for consultation. Later I called my dental insurance and found out social security number is not necessary as they can file a claim only with subscriber ID and a birthdate, which they have. I also found out the consultation should be covered as a routine check. I do like Dr. Sakkaris has a calming chair side manner. He said I have "periimplantmucositis" and suggested to have a surgery procedure which is drilling a hole on my implant, take the crown part of the implant out, clean the area, put the implant back in. I was quoted for $2280 for the procedure. I decided to look for a second opinion. I was told some simple things I can do to clean the gum around the implant area and the doctor will see what happen next month. If things doesn't improve, the procedure he is going to take is working on the gum. It's not even close to taking the implant out. read more

The dentist is fine, but the office staff is totally incompetent. I prepaid for my procedure on 1/8/16, and then received a bill in October, 2016 for $421.80 because the insurance claim was denied. After contacting the insurance company I was informed they needed more information from the dentist. Contacted the dental office and informed them of this several times, but the insurance company said they never received the information needed. After about 6 months I requested documentation for the dentist office and filed the claim myself. The claim was paid within a month for $871. The dental office now refuses to send me the difference of $447.20. Stay away from this practice. read more

I have had a long run with Dr. Sakkaris as my condition was quite complicated. One of my front teeth received trauma when I was about 14 years old and after having a root canal and crowns placed over the years, the tooth finally gave way and I needed an implant. I am 41 years old now. When I first went in to Sedona, Dr. Sakkaris showed me on a panoramic x-ray that the bone in my jaw had depleted over the years and that it would need to be built back up to support the implant post. On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being the most difficult case), Dr. said I was an 8. So the treatment started right away and they took out the old tooth, placed a bone graft and we waited about 6 months for the bone to regenerate. After 6 months had gone by, more panoramic x-rays were taken. Dr. Sakkaris showed me how the bone was rebuilding. We had to wait a bit longer for the bone to continue to grow. During this time, I had many different prosthesis so I could go out and look presentable - even though I was missing my front tooth. The prosthesis, as you can imagine, were critical to my happiness of the procedure and Dr. Sakkaris went the extra mile to make sure they looked great. Finally after about a year, the bone was ready and the implant post was placed. I have since gone to my dentist and we have placed a crown on the implant post and it looks great! The main point of this review is that during all the time that elapsed and appointments that I had, Dr. Sakkaris and his staff were very friendly and always took great care of me. I was always told upfront what the costs would be and if I had any questions, they were very expedient in answering them. His office manager even helped watch my two very young children for a quick appointment one day. I highly recommend Sedona Periodontics. read more

If I could give this place 0 stars I would! I was referred to Sedona Periodontics by my dentist for some mild gum recession. To start off, the office staff was very condescending and kept calling me "hunny" and "sweetie". In a professional environment I find that very inappropriate, and I don't think you should refer to your patients, who are grown adults, with pet names. Secondly, after my consultation, Dr. Sakkaris jumped straight into telling me that I needed to have two separate surgeries for gum grafting done, which would cost more than $5,000! While I realize that this is an option, it should be a last resort and he offered no alternatives for me to try before needing to have surgery. The assistant even asked me before I left if I would want valium or nitrous oxide for the surgery. After getting a second opinion, I was told that there were some simple things that I could do on my own and that a gum graft was not necessary at this time. When I checked out of the appointment I was told that my insurance company would not pay for anything, so I paid $125 for the consultation where surgery was basically shoved down my throat. As if all that wasn't bad enough, more than two months later I received a bill in the mail for another $62 for xrays. While I understand that my insurance did not pay for the xrays, I was told that all I needed to pay was the $125 out of pocket for the visit. You should not tell patients that everything is taken care of and then send them a bill more than two months after that fact! I do not recommend this place at all and feel that they are just trying to take peoples' money. Only go here if you want your wallets gouged!!! read more

I visited this office a few times before I decided to go here for my dental procedures. I then decided to go to Dr Sakuras because I liked that he was conservative with what I needed to have done. However, I did not like the way the "office manager" Tracy who I believe is the Dr.'s wife treated me. She would not make eye contact with me when I was trying to ask questions about the billing aspect of the procedure I needed to have done. I knew how much my insurance was going to pay and I knew what my out of pocket was going to be. When I ended up having the procedure done she proceeded to tell me that she needed my debit card number on file and would take out $500.00 every two weeks for 3 weeks. When I received my explanation of benefits the out of pocket for me stated $500.00. So I called my insurance company to make sure this was accurate. I told my insurance company that the office was saying that my portion was going to be $1500.00 and my EOB stated that I only owed $500.00. My insurance told me that they were a preferred provider in my network and they were supposed to write off the agreed amount that was the contract with the insurance company. I then contacted Tracy regarding what my insurance had just told me and she said she would have the Dr call me. I waited and the Dr did call me and said to me that his office manager said that I had turned him in to the insurance company and was making a complaint. Which is NOT what I said at all when I spoke to her. I was just questioning the dollar amount she was trying to collect from me when my insurance said I only owed $500.00 and she was trying to collect $1500.00 from me. I explained to him that I said it was related to the monies not the procedure that he did. He did a good job and I had no issues with him it was the billing side of things that I didn't feel comfortable with. If you decide to go to this practice just make sure with your insurance company what your portion is and don't believe what the office manager decides you owe. She was not honest with me and got very defensive with me when I questioned the billing. read more

Overall care and office experience was great. It's the billing practices that are extremely questionable. It was determined that I had no periodontic coverage and I was therefore self-pay, which I paid. They did attempt to bill insurance after my upfront payment and insurance paid and set the patient balance much less than what I had initially paid. After several calls and months of requesting my refund, they finally processed it for half of what the EOB stated was owed. The doctor then decided to do a re-bill staring that what was initially billed as medically necessary, should have been billed as cosmetic. He even sent medical records with the first claim to prove medical necessity! This change in billing caused the insurance to adjust the EOB, cover nothing and ultimately increase his profit off of my case. Goes to show, if he doesn't like the insurance allowable, he will reverse it to self-pay to profit! read more

I had gum tissue graft surgery 10 days ago and Dr. Sakkaris did an excellent job. This is not something we choose to do for fun, of course, and I was anxious about it. He and his staff told me what the surgery would involve, gave me specific details written down to follow before the surgery and afterward, and even called me the day before to make sure I had gotten my prescriptions filled and had started taking them. They also answered my questions regarding pain medications afterwards as I am sensitive to medications. I was referred to Dr. Sakkaris by my regular dentist, Dr. Stang, who is with Standley Shores Dental Group. (also excellent-very skilled, listens and explains, wonderful staff, etc.). Dr. Sakkaris and Dr. Stang work together with patients to make sure there is the "team" approach provided with these types of problems. My gum recession had progressed to the point where Dr. Stang felt it would be good to see what Dr. Sakkaris' thoughts were concerning options for my problem and avoiding further gum recession. I never felt pushed in making the choice for this surgery by either one of them--just informed as to what my choices were and felt there was a sincere desire to try to help me with their expertise and experience. The staff has been nothing but friendly, helpful, and attentive and I have had absolutely no problems working with them concerning filing my insurance and payments. Nicole and Shawna have been very helpful on the staff. Dr. Sakkaris and Rebecca, the assistant helping with my surgery, coordinated very well together throughout the whole 90 minute operation. I opted for nitrous oxide and it really helped take the edge off. Ivie is another of Dr. Sakkaris' assistants whom I feel very comfortable with as she is knowledgeable and skilled. My husband dropped me off and was called 15 minutes ahead of time to pick me up after the surgery so was waiting in the waiting room when I was done. I was made to feel very comfortable and would trust Dr. Sakkaris with any procedures I may need in the future. He is very careful, thorough, and experienced and is well known and has alot of patients referred to him. I recommend him and his staff if you are needing to find a periodontist. I have no complaints about Dr. Sakkaris technical knowledge and skill but I felt sorely unprepared for a surgery that he recommended to me. It was only when I arrived at my surgical appointment that I learned that a gum graft was part of my procedure, I was to receive nitrous oxide, I was to have taken some antibiotics in advance and I was not to engage in any significant physical activity for two days after my procedure. I was furious that I could show up for my surgery and be so totally ignorant of what was expected of me. I explained that I was not prepared for the surgery and would have to reschedule. But before I could even reschedule, I received a letter from the doctor dropping me from his care. I wrote back explaining that I thought his office had a significant amount of responsibility for the fact I was not properly prepared and that he should refund my $100 down payment. He was insistent that I was fully informed and the $100 was non-refundable. Clearly there must have been multiple communication breakdowns to allow me to get to my appointment without understanding what was to happen. The fact that he so blithely blamed it all on me and then kicked me out his practice is probably a good definition of poor customer service. read more
