It may seem like this small hole in the wall is questionable by looks, but don't judge a sushi restaurant by their cover! This was some of the best sushi I've had since moving to Tulsa. There was no more seating when we got there, so a server brought out a table and chairs from behind a curtain and put us in the middle of the floor. Our food was very fresh and the menu had so many great options to choose from, ranging from sushi rolls to hibachi to fried rice. During yesterday's weekly trip to BA, I landed at Sumo Sushi. TLDR: Bland sushi, wonderful people and decent prices. First let me preface that the sushi was NOT bad... it just wasn't good. At least not to me. I saw plenty of Yelp and Google reviews reflecting a 4 star level, so that was what decided me. But more on that in a second. First, the place is small. Seating for maybe 20 in a pinch. The people are out of this world friendly, and my server was absolutely great. In order to get a broad sample, I went with the 3 roll lunch special. I cross checked the menu to see what I was getting, which was the Tootsy Maki, Miami Heat and Angry Tuna rolls. I didn't pay as close attention as I should have ,as it turned out the Miami Heat and Angry Tuna rolls are pretty much the same thing. Be that as it may, my order arrived in pretty short order and to be honest, it looked outstanding. And that's where the wheels flew off the bus, at least for me. All three rolls were bland and almost devoid of flavor. At one point I started deconstructing a couple of pieces to see what was going on, and there was no flavor of any substance in any of the elements. The crab salad filler was warm and had hardly any flavor at all. The tempura didn't add anything to the rolls except making them harder to eat. Even the spicy mayo was bland. Looking back, I'm not totally convinced that I didn't get two if the Miami Heat rolls, because they seemed pretty much the same. All that said, I'm sure their food is generally regarded as good by other people, given their aforementioned ratings, but for me, it completely missed the mark. Again, I'm not saying it was bad, but if I lined up all the sushi places I've been to, Sumo would not be in the top 10. Total damages before tip was $16 and change. read more

We have been trying to get to this restaurant for a long time.. finally we made a trek to stop and eat. Waaaaatdya know?!! It hit the spot for the sushi and hibachi chicken and vegetables with fried rice. This was an enjoyable stop. It is a small spot, few tables and chairs... so get here early. Check out the drink specials, which they have sign to greet you.. we didn't get any special adult beverages. I ordered the Shaggy Dog Roll.. excellent layers of full-filling flavor. I'm not really into cream cheese rolls. This one didn't disappoint. My husband ordered the hibachi chicken lunch option. My son had fried rice. There were plentiful sized portions too. Rude Staff. Dirty Restaurant. We didn't bother ordering. Walked in, they told us to sit wherever we wanted. Table was set but dirty. Menus had soda on them still. Waitress asked what we wanted to drink, we said water, she dropped it off without even making eye contact. I had said thank you before the glass even hit the table and she spun on her heel and walked off. We walked out. I'm particular about my sushi being from California close to the bay you get a lot of fresh fish, out of all the places this place seems to give you a healthy portion of sashimi at a fair price. The service is good. The place is a bit small and busy, but it's OK for a quick bite to eat. I don't necessarily recommend the noodles and rice. Sumo ended up being rather impressing! You walk in and are struck by the size of it, it is a smaller space so seating is limited. They do offer hibachi in the kitchen and sushi out front. Everything we ordered was delicious and came out quickly! Prices were reasonable and our server did a wonderful job. To go is offered and would plan to go again in the future. Stopped in for dinner on a Sunday evening, and got seated right away. It's a tiny little place inside with very limited seating, but lots of to-go orders were being picked up. Our waitress was great. We frequent Sumo Sushi & Hibachi as we love Asian food and live in Broken Arrow, OK. Our favorite sushi rolls are the Sunset Hollywood and the Spicy Couple. If you're not into sushi, definitely try their hibachi dinners or the Chicken Yaki Soba. Everything we've ordered has been delicious so you can't really go wrong. We have never been disappointed with the service. I will say that the space is pretty small (only 5 to 6 tables) so this is not a great place for large groups unless you call ahead. This small hole-in-the-wall is some of the best sushi we have had since moving from the Pacific NW. It's hard to find good sushi here, and this is an economical genuine find. I have found it best to order online and p/u, there are simply NOT enough tables for seating, now that their reputation is getting out there. It's ALWAYS packed. The appetizer potstickers are something you will fight over, so just order more. The bento is good, but not as memorable as their sushi. Study the menu and choose accordingly, keeping in mind that ordering through delivery sites will have inflated menu prices, fees and a need to tip. Just go for the pick up option and give any tip you want directly to the owners. They are super nice and generous, and appreciate and share your kindness. A must visit for sure. read more

I think this would be a great spot to call in for carry out. There are only 7 tables so it's pretty small inside but the service was friendly and pretty quick. I like that their sushi only had a thin layer of rice. I dislike mounds of rice on my sushi rolls so this was a big plus for me. I did notice that there was not a little bowl to dip my sushi in...I'll remember to ask for that next time. Highlight of the experience was that they gave us a free desert of fried bananas and wished my hubby a Happy Father's Day. Both my boys gave 5 stars for their meals. My wife and I tried this place out for the first time on a Friday night a little after 5pm. I would say to try and get here around that time if you can, because it did seem to fill up quick. There were no seats available when we left! So happy to see another local establishment like this pop up in Broken Arrow. The food was good, the service was great and very attentive as well as friendly. I ordered the Shrimp Hibachi meal with the onion soup. The soup and salad came out right away. The salad was a tasty little bite with amazing salad dressing that was somewhat sweet. The onion soup was piping hot and flavorful. A great start to the meal. The maing course of Hibachi veggies, shrimp and fried rice came out next. The Rice was amazing, buttery and flavorful. There is really nothing like fresh fried rice. The veggies were prepped with a crinkle cut, and they were cooked perfectly and flavorful ( a mix of onion, squash, carrot and mushroom I think). The shrimp were plentiful and tasty, maybe a bit salty for some people, but it was spot on for me. I ended up taking 1/2 of my main entree home, because I was full, so the price for what you get is extremely reasonable. We were greeted right away as we sat down, I forgot to mention. Our glasses never got more than half full, and the manager came out to make sure everything was great. We will be back to try out more, for sure! read more

The Dr Pepper tasted like soap water. The Server was nice but there was nothing right about our order. I have a shell fish allergy so I immediately asked if they could accommodate me eating there. She said yes. I then told her it is serious so please make sure and she did put it on the ticket. My friends ordered the first friends food came out with shellfish I was immediately concerned but ate my food any ways. The taste of the food was ok but nothing to write home at. I started to swell up and immediately new my food had touched the shrimp. I asked the server please be sure so she asked the manager lied then my friends asked did you clean the grill then the manager said no that was not needed. Ordered almost 50.00 worth of food from Sumo's, along with a good tip. When ordering through yelp did not see where I could order extra yum yum sauce. So when I picked up my order I asked for extra sauce. The waitress handed me 1 small container of sauce, so I asked if there was more yum yum sauce in the bag because there were 2 of us eating and she said yes, because usually we get at lease 2 with our order. When I got home there were no more sauces in the bag. So basically she lied to a good paying customer. On top of that our food was cold and didn't taste fresh. This is the second time we've ordered from Sumos and were very disappointed. Looking for a new place to go. How can a place go down hill so fast? I tried a bite of everything and the shrimp was a little salty but everything was good. Especially the rice! I ordered the Broken Arrow Roll and the Angry Tuna Roll. Good size and very stuffed. The seaweed was a little chewy for my taste on the BA Roll but perfect in the Angry Tuna Roll...but that one is fried, which was a nice crispy fry without being greasy. One of the managers came over and asked how everything was and was very friendly. We will definitely be back - we are interested in trying a couple of different sushi rolls next time. I love coming to Sumo Sushi for lunch! They have a 2 or 3 roll lunch combo with soup or salad that cannot be beat for price and quality. The servers and proprietors are always so nice and attentive. There is limited seating, so call ahead if you have a group. In fairness I can be a picky eater, so I usually have substitutions to my sushi rolls, but the fish is always fresh and they are happy to accommodate my requests! I have also enjoyed several of their appetizers, but I haven't tried the bento boxes or hibachi options. I get too excited for sushi and neglect the rest of the menu. Anyway, this is a great little spot for take out or dine in. I doubt you'll leave disappointed!
