Great dining experience at Sumo. The food was pretty good but my scallops tasted a little undercooked. Sleek decor and swift service.. The prices were affordable too and portion sizes gave way to leftovers.

Underrated sushi spot--I've enjoyed all of the food each time I've visited. Had slower service the first time but no issues the next time I visited

Super lowkey on a Sunday for an early dinner. We shared the Godzilla roll I believe and the chicken and shrimp hibachi dinner. Everything was so tasty especially the sushi! Staff was kind and welcoming.

Today my friend and I came here for the first time and it was great. The hospitality appetizers and dinner were amazing. The server James was great!! We will definitely be back and make this our girls dinner spot!

We wanted to dine in some Japanese food. I craved to eat teriyaki food. As we walked down Broadway we rediscovered Sumo Sushi and Hibachi. So glad we came here. I missed the taste of teriyaki tofu. It came with mixed vegetables with an ample portion of tofu with teriyaki sauce. A bowl of white rice accompanied the entree. It tasted fabulous! The atmosphere at Sumo Sushi felt relaxed and chill. The wait service deserved an A. We did not have to wait long for our food. Come to Sumo Sushi and Hibachi. Being dates, friends or family.

I passed by this place a few times. Buts it's honestly very hard to miss if you peak into the alley. Pretty bold wall murals on the side. I'm honestly making my way through the strip between Belmont and Diversey. This week Sumo. Did not disappoint. We stuck with basic staple dishes seafood Udon and Chicken katsu which came with miso soup, side salad, and rice. Everything was perfectly cooked and delicious. I'd like to head back and try some of their sushi next. It's was just a wet day and I wanted something warm. But service was fast and friendly. The restaurant was nice and chill. Lots of people on dates with some upbeat music in the background. It's a great spot and I great area too with a ton of cute shops. I'll def be back.

I came here with some friends on a spur of the moment. Food was good, although the katsu was a little on the dry aide, service was good, not really much of an ambiance. I'd say there were better options in the neighborhood for sushi/japanese.

I had the pleasure of dining in at Sumo last night, and it was a great experience! Fresh sushi, attentive service, and wonderful decor! Btw, they're BYOB as well! We went in on a Wednesday night. They checked for our vacc cards and IDs at the door! We were 1 out of the 2 tables dining in that night. However, there were lots of orders for takeout. Our server was very attentive, and he gave us time to browse through the menu. My friend got a Roll Combo dinner, while I got a sushi regular. The plating was gorgeous!! The fish was fresh, and the sushi rice did not break at all! I really liked that. Our sushi entrees included miso soup and salad. The salad dressing was so good! It was a great time. I'll definitely be back!

Such a nice spot for date night! All the sushi was fresh and the portions for the hibachi were abundant, plus it came out super hot which was nice. Nothing we had was necessarily mind-blowing, but all were very consistently well done and brought out in a timely manner. Service was also very attentive and sweet.

The food here is always amazing. I got the chicken and steak hibachi dinner combo with a side of noodles and it was amazing. Seriously, amazing. The steak is perfectly seasoned, the chicken was amazing, rice is so good too. Everything is so fresh and yummy. Our server was so nice and kinda and very attentive. The restaurant was clean and tidy, you can tell they deep clean often. I will be back, I love this place.

This is the best sushi in Chicago!!!! My #1 favorite restaurant in the city. Get the crab Rangoon, shrimp rack and Chicago roll! Everything is so fresh and delicious. Perfect every time

Rainbow Roll closer to me, futo maki roll further away. That little container on the right is the soy sauce, which is kinda cute I suppose.

I was walking home from the Ash Wednesday mass when I passed by. I was initially going to cook some shrimp when I got home, but then I decided that laziness would prevail and I schlepped right into this restaurant. The place was nice, clean and had a very friendly staff. I ordered a rainbow roll and a futomaki roll. The rainbow roll was the typical California roll with various raw fish and avocado on top; it was delicious. The ingredients were fresh and quite substantial. The futo was a bit of a struggle, but in a good way. The roll was massive, I tired my best to not look like a shmuck but each bite was a tiny game to chew... and I have an obnoxiously large mouth. The futo had fresh avocado, egg, oshinko, a tiny bit of lettuce and several sprigs of asparagus. The flavors blended together nicely and the freshness left a delightfully crispy crunch. Note, I think futo literally means fat. I guess the idea is to put a ton of ingredients into one roll. So there may be a lack of continuity of what is actually in a futo roll from one restaurant to another; whereas a rainbow roll is pretty well defined and consistent. I don't believe the futo roll here has any fish, making this suitable for vegetarians. But be sure to ask. I will definitely be returning. Additional points for having great soy sauce with depth. It's always annoying when places serve cheap soy sauce that is all "treble" has no "bass", if that makes any sense to anyone. Also, the waitress was very sweet and tentative. I feel like four stars is a bit low but five is for places that absolutely blow me away, which is extremely rare. Unfortunately I have to go with four.

Love finding great sushi spots - thank you fellow Yelp folks for directing me to this place. The lunch specials were delicious. I had the lunch bento box which came complete with soup and salad, salmon teriyaki, 4 pieces of California roll and 2 pieces of Shumi . Well worth the 17$ price tag. My lunch partner ordered the lunch special of 3 rolls for 17$. He commented the sushi was great and fresh. Attentive service and perfectly pleasant atmosphere. Will return!

I almost decided to save Miru for our next visit, but I'm glad I made time for breakfast here on our departure day. Located inside the St. Regis Chicago, the restaurant offers beautiful views. The service was excellent--attentive, friendly, and professional. I ordered the Tokyo Breakfast. The salmon was perfectly cooked and paired beautifully with rice, a soft-poached egg, and salmon roe. The miso soup was slightly salty on its own, but it worked surprisingly well when enjoyed with the rice toward the end of the meal. Overall, a memorable breakfast experience. I'd love to return and try the lunch or dinner menu on my next trip to Chicago.

The sushi is phenomenal, as were our drinks... but the other entrees are disappointing. The karaage and duck yakisoba in particular in quality could be from any corner restaurant in Chicago. The service lends itself more casual, and I noticed they were consistently quite slow to clear our table. I don't think people come here for the food as much as the views. Overlooking Streeterville from this angle and vantage was truly jaw dropping and for this reason I still strongly recommend Miru.

My only critique is the pacing. Since the chef already had the fish sliced and prepped, I expected a smoother flow, but the meal took about an hour and a half for 14 pieces of sushi. It felt a bit slow, especially for a lunch service. That said, if you're looking for a reasonably priced omakase with quality fish, this is a solid choice.

Both were great. Our bartenders were lovely and very friendly. Found out this is a Malort tasting room and we were able to sample some different Malorts (the cocoa one was good!). Then we were taken back to our table for dinner. Our server was super friendly as well. Started with the miso soup and crispy tuna bites which were probably my favorite dishes. The taki yoki fritters weren't bad either. We saw people getting omakase, so we ordered a yummy looking piece they were receiving. It was just okay (chutoro truffle). The nigiri was also okay. The tuna piece was the only I really loved. The fish quality wasn't as high as I was expecting. The sushi was decent. A little too much truffle in the spicy blue fin tuna and a little too vegetable forward in the hamachi serrano. All in all, the atmosphere and amazing service pushed this up to a 4 for me.
