WOW! What an amazing place! Stopped here to grab a late dinner. While I was inside the sky opened up and it started pouring as soon as it closed out. The owner and staff immediately suggested I stay in and stay dry and took great care of me. I can't thank them enough for how they welcomed me in while the rain slacked off. I haven't even got to the food yet, but wow! It was incredible, tasted very fresh, and would recommend to anyone. It's a wonderful little store, small but mighty. The vibe is incredible. I've walked past Rollapalooza numerous times and never took notice of it but had the opportunity to try it when some friends wanted something new. For a local low / mid priced sushi restaurant the food was very good. Is it the best authentic sushi place, no. But for a fun casual meal with friends it does a great job. The staff were super friendly and accommodating of allergies making sure to mark concerns when flagged. The restaurant is BYOB. I will likely be back given it's proximity and quality food. read more

OMG I can't say enough great stuff about this place. From the second we walked in 'til we walked out was just the best. We'd never been before and our server was very helpful. Even better were our neighbors seated next to us. They had already been served, and we asked what they had and if they had any recommendations. Everyone was awesome. The food was next level... This is a great spot in Lakeview! I have a fish allergy so I'm not very well-versed in sushi, but the menu was huge enough to where there were plenty of shellfish and veggie options. Great selection of rolls for the price and quality. There were several options I wanted to try, but the hand rolls are why I ordered from here- it seems challenging to find hand rolls for delivery... I really enjoyed the Spicy Tuna Hand Roll, but the Spicy Scallop Hand Roll was a tad fishy/slimy. My favorite was the Caribbean, followed by that Crabby Crab. The Spicy Tataki was too salty, but it was okay. Super generous with wasabi, ginger, and soy sauce packets. Many other rolls I was debating to get, so I'm sure I'll order again! read more

Soon as we walked in we were immediately greeted by a nice lady name GiGi. She was very pleasant and kind, let us take our time ordering and even allowing us to change something a minute after ordering, we got the dragon roll which is the last roll in the picture, California roll that was a little more then just a California roll but I forgot the name, which is the first roll in the pic, and the roll in the middle is the Smokey salmon roll. It's a really cute location, a bit on the smaller side (but that clearly doesn't effect your meal). They gave us free edamame to start which we thought was so nice! I also really like that you get a little dish with wasabi and ginger. I always feel bad when it's given with every sushi platter at restaurants and I never have the wasabi! We started by sharing the yellowtail jalapeño appetizer and it was SO GOOD!! Perfect combination, left just the right amount of heat, and had a really good light sauce as well. We split the Ocean Vinaigrette roll (was ok, but felt sort of like a salad in a roll), the German roll (was very tasty but the spicy crab inside definitely had a kick to it), and the Garlic Salmon roll (delicious garlic flavor, not too overpowering and the salmon was so good). I also really want to highlight how delicious their nigiri is! I love that they let you know right away one order comes with 2 pieces. I ordered the yellowtail and scallop. The presentation could have been much better--many of the rolls were cut unevenly or the sauce was haphazardly poured so it made the rice soggy. Overall, we were disappointed by the experience, especially when you take price and portion size into consideration. Miso Soup: Nothing special but only $2.50 Rolla Blossom: Fresh taste but the asparagus flavor really lingered Aloha Roll: The roll was not bad but the sauce was so overpowering...at times, it just tasted like pineapple Salmon Avocado Roll: Solid but could have been portioned a bit better Pink Flower: Our favorite roll--it is fresh and filled with lots of fish. Honestly the sushi was good, but it took FOREVER to come out. I feel like we were sitting there for way too long. And on top of that the portion sizes were super small. Ordered this for delivery via DoorDash on a Friday evening for dinner around 5pm. The sushi came 30 minutes ahead of schedule. We ordered the Shumai, Alaska, Dynamite, and Red Dragon. The Shumai was...not very good. It felt like it was frozen before and just reheated. Meh. The dynamite roll had a lot going on but overall just wasn't very good. I was curious about the combination of cheese and bonito flakes, but it didn't work with all of the other fish flavors. Not worth $14. The Alaska was also nothing special. Just salmon and avocado with crab, mayo, and fish eggs. The fish eggs gave it extra texture but that's about it. This is a plain roll you could really get anywhere. Not worth $14. The Red Dragon was my favorite roll, but unfortunately most pieces barely had any or had no crab and was just tempura. That was pretty disappointing and it threw off the balance of the roll. $16 for very little actual meet. With so many other sushi places in the area, Rollapalooza was a big flop for me. Definitely won't be going out of my way to go back. read more

I just ordered takeout from this place. Got the chriashi. A bit of rice in their terms means a very thin layer smashed at the bottom of steel rice. On top of it is shredded radish that has most likely been sitting in their display case given the underlying taste of it. And the smallest pieces of tuna and salmon Because it's chef special. Didn't realize a chef special meant give you the smallest amount of what we actually sell regularly and a lot of what we have left over at the end of the day. Very late pre-pandemic review! Rollapalooza is a great sushi spot in the heart of Boystown. I was able to make a same day reservation for 3 of us, which I would recommend doing as it's not a very big space. By the time we left, they were almost completely full. They have a whole bunch of wonderfully creative maki, which you'd expect from their name! My favorite was the German roll but we were very pleased with our selections. As long as you order to your taste, you'll be happy with your order. We were actually worried at first because the host asked us if we had a reservation. which we didn't. With that said, if you do decide to come here, might as well be safe and call in a reservation. Parking: Free parking in Boystown in the weekend? Yea okay. Good luck! Finding paid street parking is already difficult enough, depending when you go. I suggest coming here during the week, just so you can avoid all the weekend partying. Worth: I would definitely think Rollapalooza is worth the visit. The staff was very friendly and professional. The RICE is STICCCKY with this one! #1 TIP: MAKE A RESERVATION. We did our reservation thru Open Table on google maps. It died down after 9:00PM on a Friday night, but was packed around 8:00PM. Everyone and their brother in Boystown wants a piece of Rollapalooza. The restaurant has a small dining room. Everything is smooshed together. No more than 50 people were seated. This place is perfect for parties of 1-4! We were seated at a half booth half chair table, which was what major of seating was. I didn't feel uncomfortable, despite the space. The servers were super nice! Thankfully, this is a BYOB joint, and gave us cups for our sake. I saw other people brought beer, wine, or ciders. We ordered the Sashimi Platter. It gave two samples each of Tuna, Salmon, Snapper, Yellowfin, and White Tuna. My favorite was the tuna because it was so silky and smooth. My partner preferred the Snapper due to freshnessssh! The edamame is also a nice touch; steamy with salt flakes. For sushi; the two of us ordered the Rollapalooza (a mound of crab mixture piled on top of rolls stuffed with cream cheese and more cream cheese), White Castle (mango and super white tuna!), Godzilla (tempera shrimp, crab stick, and crunchyy bits), and the Crunchy Melt (melted MOZZARELLA over tempera shrimp!!). Whew!!!!!! I'd order any of these rolls again! You have to be MEGA HUNGRY to order four rolls per two people. We survived, barely, with left overs (5 pcs.). I was about to topple over. Good thing we threw in the towel! So, what's the catch with this place?! Only downside that I can see is there is only one restroom for patrons, located in the back. Sometimes, there's a line.
