Volcano roll with teriyaki sauce, eel sauce and spicy mayo
    Samantha S.

Ordered sushi via Uber eats and it came freshly prepared. First time ordering from here but it will not be the last. Some of the best sushi I have had in Columbia in awhile. I ordered the volcano roll that include deep fried crab, cream cheese, crab stick crunch topped with eel sauce and spicy mayo. Do yourself a favor and try this roll. I also ordered extra sauce and it came with the order with no issues. Good customer service.

Excellent value. The food is on the same level as the hibachi restaurants. There are two differences, they don't cook in front of you, and the prices are a lot less.. The inside of the restaurant is clean and all of the employees are friendly. This is a definite place to return to. We tried the fried krab sticks, and they were very good. They have booths and tables for dine in, or you can take it home. Do yourself a favor and try the. Out.

This food was so good. Great service excellent

Very good good service don't mind what you're doing in the restaurant. I screamed in the restaurant on accident didn't seem to care. I would recommend this for any family outing or any date

I was driving to Charlotte for the weekend and wanted to stop for something on the way that wasn't fast food. I needed gas anyway so I stopped off the highway to see if anything was nearby when I found Sumo on Yelp. It was simple hibachi in a plaza, but this was a great find. The place was very clean, nice staff and the food was great. We had leftover chicken teriyaki which turned into a late night snack at the hotel. I would absolutely stop here again.

Bae and I were looking for a quick lunch before picking up the kids from school today and Sumo was one of the places we haven't been yet but heard good reviews about. I thought it was more of a traditional restaurant vs typical hibachi spot where you order at the front but it was still a cute little atmosphere. It was really clean and organized. I ordered the hibachi shrimp yakisoba because I truly love noodles over rice and a spring roll. My bf got hibachi steak and scallops and he did ask for noodles instead of rice but I don't think the guy heard him because they gave him rice. But when we told them, he was quick to fix the order and give him noodles. I didn't get a chance to take a picture of his food but the steak and scallops were cooked perfectly and they looked beautiful. It was full of flavor cooked with the zucchini and mushrooms. My shrimp was also cooked perfectly and had great flavor with the yakisoba noodles. It was actually a pretty decent meal for lunch. The spring roll was good but didn't have much filling so it was mostly the wrap. It tasted really good though. I think next time I will try the crab wontons and their rolls to see how those are. Overall I'd say 8/10

    Shrimp and veggie tempura

For a long time I lived in an area where there was a teriyaki joint on every corner. So there was a lot of competition for your patronage. I expected better from Sumo given their ratings. Prices were market rate. The shrimp and vegetable tempura had a lot of shrimp but few veggie (mostly broccoli). The tempura was greasy but OK. I ordered hibachi steak and chicken, and my wife hibachi chicken. The portions were reasonably sized. The food was heavily seasoned. The vegetables were slightly overcooked. The chicken was fresh and tender, and better than the steak.

Steak and Shrimp hibachi with vegetables/fried rice

The food was absolutely amazing! I took my mom out on a lunch date and wanted to try out a Hibachi restaurant. We are so glad to have stumbled across this place. The restaurant was clean and well stocked, and professional customer service!! We definitely will be back.

Portion sizes are small compared to other hibachi restaurants. Sushi rolls are also small. Taste is okay.

I live in Columbus and haven't had the options like CO has. We shared a green papaya salad, and it was delicious! I would eat an entire bowl by myself. Don't forget to tear up the basil - it completes the flavor! We got the Lotus, Lemon, Firecracker, Sesame and Pork Belly sushi rolls. That is the order I would rank the rolls in flavor. It is a shame if anyone uses shoyu (sou sauce) or even wasabi when eating these rolls. The lotus has a rice paper wrap (for those who don't like seaweed) and an aioli on top that was so refreshing and flavorful. The lemon was honestly a very close second - maybe even a tie for first. I don't normally like salmon but it was so fresh and the lemon slice was refreshing and clean!

My son and I were greeted by our server soon upon arriving to our table. We came to dinner around 8pm on a Monday night, so the dining room wasn't very busy. Our server was polite and took our order at our pace with no issues. We like to stagger our orders when we go out to eat. That way, we're enjoying every plate we share that comes out without a rush. We ordered the Salmon Carpaccio to start, but then their Yellowtail Jalapeño came out to our table instead. It was disappointing to see, but then our server came out shortly and apologized. She also made sure to make our appetizer "on the house" for our troubles. This is a gesture I appreciate coming from one service industry gal to another; very professional and hard to find these days. Once the Salmon Carpaccio came out, we were very pleased with it and loved the notes of lemon zest and oil on the salmon sashimi. Next, we were eager to try something new so we asked about the "pressed sushi," on the menu and went with the salmon avocado sushi stack. To be honest, it was okay. It was literally salmon, rice and avocado pressed together and cut into little rectangular pieces. I'll give it to our server though because did tell us that's exactly what it was. Then we ordered the pan fried gyoza dumplings and the Cambodian Roll. The dumplings were disappointing. The flavor was just okay and it felt overpriced. I just know I could get those same dumplings elsewhere for cheaper, or that I would have better luck buying frozen gyoza dumplings and making them myself at home. However, the Cambodian roll was absolutely delicious! Bravo to whoever invented it! All of those flavors, textures and temperatures came together beautifully. It was unique and very satisfying. Lastly, we finished with an ube cheesecake for dessert and it was a perfectly balanced ending to our meal.

The fried rice and chicken combo hits exactly the way you want it to: flavorful, slightly indulgent, and satisfying without being overly heavy. What really keeps me coming back, though, is the bar. The Suishaya Special in particular is strong--not just in a gimmicky way, but balanced enough that you actually enjoy drinking it while still feeling it. That's about what I though too. It was really weird because we went at 4:30 PM and there was no one in the restaurant. It said to wait to be seated. We stood by the counter for about ten minutes waiting to be seated in a completely empty restaurant. The staff working just kind of looked at us like we were lost. Anyway, ordered spring rolls and they were $5.50 for two pretty small ones. Also, very greasy. I got the Singapore Noodles with chicken. It was okay. I kind of felt like I could make it at home. My girlfriend got Philadelphia Sushi and Shrimp. She said they all tasted like it came from a grocery store. I agreed. Columbia has a lot of Sushi restaurants. I'd skip this one.

The drinks were blended very well and used fresh lime juice, which was nice. The appetizers -- the kimchi fries and the boneless wings were pretty standard. The fries were crunchy, but we felt like there was more cheese than there was kimchi and sauce, so we've had better kimchi fries elsewhere. The cheese was very gooey though. The boneless wings weren't as crunchy as they could have been, especially coming out in a stone dish, but the garlic soy sauce was still pretty good. Our mains were really good -- the japchae, which I ordered with fried tofu, had the right texture and flavor, and was delicious yet spicy. The tofu was a little bland though. My partner enjoyed the squid and pork belly dish and said that the sauce was similar to the japchae sauce. The portions were pretty normal and not too big, so we had a few leftovers but not too many. The prices were also pretty reasonable as well. Overall we were really happy with our food here and would come back if we ever visited again.
