Building is a time capsule and hasn't been touched which brings a nostalgic vibe. Very well priced. The gyoza and Philly roll were excellent. They give you a small bowl of miso soup for free, but it's very cheap to upgrade to a larger portion, which I would recommend because it's very good for the price. The service was just a little slow and a few things were forgotten, but we did order a lot of food so it was understandable. My first time here, and I will be back. I had the Bento Box A, Yellowtail Roll and the small Birthday roll ($46 total). I really liked the presentation and preparation of the food - 1) They don't overload the sushi with rice. 2) They don't over-bread the tempura items. 3) They don't drown the rolls in sauce. I was the first order today (I think), and after placing my order, I only waited 10-15 minutes for it to be ready. The host even brought it to my car! I don't know if things are like that once they get busy, but for a first experience - it was A+. Everything was SUPER tasty and the hostesses were so nice and helpful. Since my time in Columbia, I would say this is the BEST sushi spot in town. Definitely worth a try! read more

We weren't from the area so when we drove up we were like - uhhhhhhh but don't let the what the place looks like deter you from driving out of the way to eat here. It's almost hard to believe that this restaurant has 4.5 stars but after sifting through them it is mainly based on their rolls which if you read the menu is mostly made with imitation crab and cream cheese! Our reservations were for 610pm (my husband, myself, and our one year old). We arrived at 6pm. Our order was not taken until 20 min after we were seated and hence our food did not come out until 7pm so we were waiting for an hour. Our daughter is usually really easy to take to dinner but if you keep a hungry toddler waiting too long, this just adds to a already difficult dinner service situation. My husband ordered the tempura + sashimi combo. The Kabocha was not ripe enough so it tasted like a bland potato and the texture was harder than normal. The shrimp was definitely pre packaged because the batter and color did not match the rest of the vegetable tempura (pictured). The combo also did not come with rice so we had to order a side bowl of rice for $1.50 and we were surprised by how small the portion was (rice portion was about the size of two tablespoons which is also pictured next to a teaspoon). The sashimi came with a cheap white tuna (which we have never seen before) and after doing some research, white tuna is in fact not tuna at all. It is actually some kind of butterfish which shouldn't be eaten raw anyway. I also ordered ikura nigiri + hamachi nigiri but by 715 pm we still did not receive our 4 pieces of nigiri so we requested to cancel it. Our waitress brought it out immediately after our request to cancel but we were tired of waiting + my one year old daughter was restless at this point so we were all ready to leave. However she insisted it could not be canceled so we asked to speak with her manager and then somehow our nigiri order cancellation was suddenly approved. Despite waiting over an hour for our food, our waitress or management failed to acknowledge their inexcusably slow service and for that I wish I could give negative stars! Do yourself a favor and go to inakaya where the sashimi and service is so much better. read more

Although they got my to-go order wrong twice, their food was excellent! I had 2 Special Roll Combo with a pink lady roll and another roll (I can't remember what it was called). Both rolls were perfectly and expertly made. They were out of salad that came with the combo but gave me extra miso soup. My sister had beef teriyaki and a roll. She loved both. Three solid stars means the food was not overly impressive but I would go back. It's places like this that mAke me wish I could do half a star. Especially since they brought us some eggplant that me want to me go back and shake hands with chef! My sushi was okay. The service was not terrible and it did fix the craving that I was having, so that was a plus. It has a very desirable location to post, I am sure they get plenty of traffic for lunch. I would just recommend they step up the sushi making skills. I will be back and check them out if I am ever in this area again. read more

(My husband and I went on a night when Saky was severely understaffed and the service crazy slow, but I am not letting that influence my review.) For me, atmosphere and food are the two most important aspects of a restaurant experience. Saky's atmosphere is not there. It looks rundown and kind of dirty. Decor is mismatched and old, paint is peeling off walls, and some of the tables are literally folding card tables. Based on atmosphere alone I'd probably give this place 1.5 stars. However, the food was decent. I thought the prices were a little much for the smaller portion sizes, but the three veggie sushi rolls I had all tasted pretty good. So basically, three stars for tasty food and that's about the only positive thing I have to say about this place! read more

We've never eaten inside (4 and 1.5 year olds) but have ordered takeout multiple times. We have always been happy with our food and service. Each time we call, there's a helpful woman who happily takes our order and informs us of the roll ingredients. Our order is usually ready in 15 minutes. Our meal is always wonderful. Tonight we had the pink roll, spicy salmon, spicy tuna, and shumai. Everything was wonderful. read more

I give this restaurant a solid four stars. Apparently there is a new chef. The food had great flavor, but was lacking in the right texture. The fried rice was a little too oily, and the steak seemed as if it had a coating on it. I would definitely return to try other menu items. read more

We found this gem of a place by accident as we were headed for Myrtle Beach and needed to get dinner on Christmas Day. The place seems misplaced right off the highway in a stand alone. The place is small and has a cave like feel to it. The server who I imagine is the chef/owner's wife was prompt in seating us. we ordered miso soups, a gyoza dinner, a ginger dressing salad, california rolls and two hand rolls. The salad was twice the size I usually get at other Japanese places. The miso soup had a unique distinctive taste, not super salty, if it wasnt homemade it certainly came close to it. The California rolls were on the smaller size but at less than $6 per roll we had no complaints. The hand rolls I ordered were nicely presented and were not lacking. My husband's gyoza dinner was ample and delicious. This place is truly a great find! read more

This place is okay tasting but on the more expensive side. We got a bunch of specialty rolls and all of them had nasty wasabi cream on them. Despite spending a good amount of money here they still charged us for a side of spicy mayo. So let's get to the real issue, they are extremely understaffed. Our service was not good and we had to wait over an hour to get food. We will not return here again and suggest you give Yoshi sushi a try. We had it last week and regret not going back. We just moved to Columbia from out of state so wanted to give another place a shot and wish we hadn't. read more

Went this past Thursday. Though the firecracker roll was too spicy for me, the overall experience was enough (and I was hungry enough) to then order the combination fish roll--one of the few times I've had actual raw fish in my sushi, and loved it. Included in the meal (no extra cost) was a bowl of soup, edamame, and samplings of some sort of grilled mushroom, rice noodles, and cucumber. All excellent. The drinks are reasonably priced (carafe of sour apple sake and my first ever glass of plum wine, $5 each) and the only downside is they are only open 4 days a week. read more

Yet another Japanese restaurant featuring small portions and overpriced cuisine. You'll pay $30 for tiny sushi and if you order an entree, expect a single scoop of whatever it is. The miso soup in the soy sauce cup and the single piece of eggplant as an appetizer is just an insult. Don't get me wrong, the food tastes OK and is acceptable in quality...but you really need to eat before you get here so you don't spend $50 and leave hungry. There's ZERO value here. We tried Saky for the first time since probably around 2012. It was excellent. So, don't be put off by the outside of this place. Once you get inside, it is pretty cute. The service was excellent, but keep in mind that it was a small place that was packed on a Friday night (a sign of the good food). We started off with hot sake and a softshell crab appetizer. The sake was delightful, and so was the softshell crab. We ordered several Nigiri pieces, all of which were fresh and delightful. We also ordered a california sunrise roll that was spicy and delicious, a spicy salmon roll which was also great, and a Columbia roll, which was just over the top and incredibly delicious. Very disappointed. I decided to try a new sushi place tonight and Saky popped up on the radar. Close to my house and rave reviews on Yelp - sounds like a winner, right? Nope. Not tonight. I was tired and my husband is out of town so I ordered to go. I ordered the firecracker and a tuna roll. I wrote on my sushi ticket "no wasabi please" and the gentleman that took my order reiterated to me "no wasabi." While I was waiting the waitress and what I assume is the owner brought me some water and edamame to snack on. The edamame was delicious! I pay my bill and take my food home. I eat a tuna roll - filled with wasabi. I spat it out and tried the firecracker roll - also filled with wasabi. Wasabi tastes like paint thinner to me so my entire meal was ruined and into the trash it went. I would have sent it back had I eaten at the restaurant but I was too tired to go back out. Looks like I'll be sticking with my usual sushi bar, even though it's farther from my house. read more
