Double birthday party with family of four. Made reservation. Few minutes late waiting on everyone to arrive in our party and the staff gave away our seats at the Habachi table so had to wait another hour. Arrived at 7:30 reservation, finally seated at 8:45. They close at 10pm so felt rushed. When finally got seats, a second group of strangers showed up at our habachi. Asked to be moved since there were two other habachi stations completely open. We were able to get a separate table after waiting another 15 mins. I Ordered Habachi Scallop dinners come with egg fried rice and veggies. $35. Birthday boys ordered: Habachi Scallop $35 Habachi Chicken Shrimp $30 Also Chicken Habachi $30 For dessert asked for a birthday desserts to share -assumed was on the house - $3 each for a slice of birthday cake with a sparkler. Drinks 2 hot house sake for birthday boys - $10 each. Birthday boys happy, I thouht the whole experience was overpriced. 20% tips automatically included on bill for a party of 4. Not great service as I've experienced other previous Habachi Places. I don't think the price point is worth it. read more

So 2 people for hibachi bill was $95 plus $18 plus a tip for waitress so dinner and one beer each was over $125. Imagine 4 groups around the hibachi table and chef making $72 for 30 minutes! Less expensive options in town with food just as good or better. read more

Portions were decent. Food was underwhelming. Cost, like I said was decent for what you get. Server barely spoke English which did not add to the experience. I went in the bathroom and it smelled like a rotten sewer. There was someone in the stall taking a deuce, but if I remember correctly it smelled the same way last time I went. Something about the smell of raw sewage with that of the aroma of sushi is quite off putting. I tried to get over the smell, but struggled. We were immediately seated with a larger group of 7. The sushi rolls we ordered were quick and very good. We got soup and salad. Between us all, we ordered the chicken and steak hibachi. I was blown away by the serving sizes here. I ordered sushi to go with my hibachi steak and had no idea that the sushi could and probably should just be your meal. Oh well...it was all sooo good! Just moved to Mt. Pleasant and honestly had low expectations for food from what I've heard about the area...but this sushi spot was AMAZING! I was caught off guard by the quality of the sushi....super fresh tasting. I ordered the spicy tuna and spicy salmon rolls for take out. Both usually come with crunch in them but I'm not a huge fan of crunch so I asked for both without any crunch. The fish to rice ratio was perfect, the rice was well cooked, large portions of fish in the rolls, and I loved how they prepared both rolls. Very fairly priced, probably a little on the pricier end for Mt. Pleasant, but definitely think it's worth it for the quality they give (and still cheap for sushi). I will definitely be back to try more of their rolls! They seem to have good special sushi combos, will be getting that next time. Can't wait! read more

Don't let the outside fool you, this place has some very good food! It's basically in a strip mall so parking is plenty. Upon entering you can choose to sit at a booth, the sushi bar or the hibachi grill. This time we chose a booth-I say this time because we'll be back! I ordered a piña collar and we got the shumani for an appetizer. The drink was good and the shrimp dumplings were just the right size to share and get the taste buds going. W ordered our dinner when we got the appetizer and they timed the food fairly well. The surf and turf came out first and it was just a few minutes later the roll came out. Before the meals came the surf and turf came with soup and salad. The soup was basically broth, but delicious and the salad was small but had a tasty dressing. The surf and turf was cooked wonderfully and everything tasted delicious. The steak was tender and the lobster and shrimp was cooked perfectly. The yummy roll came out warm and, as the name implies, yummy! Our drinks were refilled in a timely manner and the wait staff were not intrusive during our meal. Cost is a bit higher, $40 for the surf and turf, $11 for the yummy roll and another $11 for the drink. Although I think the cost for the roll is about average so maybe it was just the surf and turf that was a bit higher . The roll came with 8 pieces I believe and they were pretty big pieces. I think I would have preferred smaller, bite size pieces but it was still yummy I will definitely be returning because they have a very extensive menu and I want to try the hibachi (it looked like a pretty good show!) read more

THE best sushi in Mt. Pleasant; it's not even close! We've eaten here five times since they opened and there's a reason we keep coming back. Fresh ingredients, high quality rolls with minimal rice; Sumo's got the sushi game down. Their hibachi is super-flavorful (and filling) and is a big hit with our steak-loving daughter. My wife jokingly (but maybe not jokingly?) called Sumo "the best thing to come out of 2020". Her absolute favorite Japanese dish of all-time is Nabeyaki Udon Soup and she said this is the best she's ever had. We've had all the sushi spots in Mt. Pleasant, from Midori to Hunan, Mountain Town, Kuji and even Meijer, but Sumo beats them all - hands-down. If you're craving sushi or hibachi, look no further: Sumo's gonna be your new go-to in Mt. We came here on opening day, and unlike some other similar places in town, Sumo's consistency in high-quality sashimi, nigiri, and sushi has not faltered at all - even despite the pandemic! Customer Service is 5/5 star and one of the best examples of making the customer's experience a truly memorable one. Their appropriately moderate prices make this a blessing on my pocketbook and keep it in range of a college-town budget. I always look forward to getting my weekly sushi fix here. read more

This was the first place to come up on suggestions we were not disappointed the hibachi was great sushi was great but what made the trip well worth it was our hibachi cook he was absolutely amazing I didn't get his name but he was from Micronesia. He and his family how they have recently moved to the area from Illinois & how they have moved around the country. Also how he met his wife working at SeaWorld Orlando since my husband myself and our kids live in Orlando it was nice to have a talk about our city. Overall the evening was good the only downside to the evening was seeing our waiter Andy picking his nose at the wine refrigerator. Other than that everything was great!!!! read more

Much like other reviews, DO NOT judge the book by its cover! This was great! From the service, to the chef's entertainment, to the food. The scallops were great and the sauce on the chicken was also! Vegetables were not soggy, but were perfectly crispy. Great Job! We have been to a lot of Japanese Steak Houses. This was the best for entertainment and food. Ask for this chef! First of all most of the food that we got was mediocre at best....two different rolls plus the Hibachi shrimp. High priced as for those three items we paid a total of $50. I stopped at this restaurant yesterday with my two companions. While the food was good, the menu is apparently very confusing (not to mention written poorly with all the spelling errors). The three of us ordered entrees which were supposed to come with miso soup and ginger salads. When they still hadn't come even after the entrees had been served, the waitress said no, it was only for the beginning of that section on the menu. Wait, what? If you have a header in a menu that says Entrees (comes with miso soup and salad), it's for the entire section of meals. I didn't even bother to argue as it really wasn't worth my time. I most likely won't go back to eat there because the employees seem to be confused about what falls under what in the menu. Other than that, the restaurant is nice on the inside. read more

The waiters are very disrespectful towards their customers. Without asking, the waiters were taking our food while we were still trying to eat. I got up to use the restroom and my food was gone. I had eaten 2 pieces of sushi out of 14 pieces. I asked for my plate back and was denied because "I was finished eating." I still had to pay for my meal after I only had two pieces of sushi. there were 14 pieces in total and I had 12 left. Just got a take out order . 2 sushi rolls and an entree. Th sushi rolls were BIG , lots of fish. The entree was hibachi filet mignon and shrimp. We ordered medium rare and it was really medium rare , not overdone and had a great flavor . The rolls were Foxy lady and Nobu. The taste was great and their was plenty of food .We spent $ 65 for the dinner for 2. We didn't need to order that much because the rolls were much bigger than we anticipated . I am a big sushi fan and this is one of the BEST places I have been in a VERY long time. Food was very fresh. We got chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, a crunchy roll, spicy tuna roll and a house salad that was big enough for two to split and was only 5$. Price for amount of food you receive is perfect. The food was hot and very well flavored and definitely don't judge a book by the cover because the front was nothing compared to what was inside.
