Apparently replacing a watch battery has become a multi-week engineering project. I dropped off my Tissot watch at Sumpter's Jewelry & Collectibles on July 21 for what should have been one of the quickest and easiest services a jewelry store offers: a simple battery replacement. Judging by all the glowing reviews, I expected competent service. Instead, I got an endless parade of excuses, contradictions, and complete silence. After waiting about an hour, I was suddenly informed that the "watch guy" wasn't there and was supposedly on his way. Strange how that detail only came up after I'd already been sitting there. Then the story changed again. I was told the technician had accidentally damaged my watch's seal and that it now needed to be replaced. So my watch somehow left my possession in working condition and immediately came back with more problems than it arrived with. When I offered to wait, they insisted I leave it because the watch technician wouldn't be available anytime soon. Fast forward to July 29. Eight days later, after multiple phone calls, repeated promises that someone would call me back, and absolutely zero follow-through, I finally got the "watch guy" on the phone. His explanation? In over a week, all he had managed to accomplish was putting the back of my watch back on. That's it. He hadn't even completed the pressure test to restore the watch's water resistance. Apparently, after eight days, we're still working on Step One of a battery replacement. The most impressive part of this experience wasn't the repair--it was the complete lack of communication. Not one proactive phone call. Not one update. Had I not kept calling, I'd probably still be wondering whether my watch was even there. At this point, I'm genuinely questioning whether all of the glowing reviews reflect the service I received because my experience couldn't have been more different. If replacing a battery turns into damaging a seal, leaving a watch untouched for over a week, and requiring the customer to chase down every update, I'd hate to see what happens with an actual repair. If you enjoy wasting your time, hearing a new excuse every time you call, and wondering whether your watch will ever be finished, this is the place for you. If you value professionalism, communication, and the expectation that a basic battery replacement shouldn't become an eight-day saga, I'd strongly recommend taking your watch literally anywhere else. read more

I have been here twice for two different reasons and both expreiences got 5 starts. Last Spring I sold about $400 in gold scrap and feel that I got a good price and good service. Last month I went to get my wedding band fixed. I got my finger slammed in a car door (thanks Jen!) and the ring got most of the damage. A prong was bent and I had a smaller diamond missing from the band. They matched and fixed everything and polished it to an amazing shine. I dropped of a ring originally purchased here in 2013, for a stone repair!! It took about a week..I went to pick up paid and realized the stone replaced didn't match my other stone, I immediate returned before leaving the premises!! They promised to fix, no biggie. I went back about a week later to pick up and expressed my dissatisfaction with how the original stone replacement wasn't replaced with the same original color nor was I told. The gentleman there told me they reinforced my other stones and if they had charged me it would have been $200!! I sent my Rolex President band to Sumpters for repining and refurbishment. They were in constant communication with me about the repairs, etc. Ms. Carolyn McCoy was the person who kept in contact with me and she was great. I received the band today and it looked brand new. I used to work at a Jewelry store so I knew I wanted to support an independent company rather than a chain store so I took in several pieces for batteries and repairs. My chip necklace needed to be restrung and went from a 36" to a 24" with no return of the extras nor did I ask for it to be shortened. My real, freshwater pearl bracelet I paid 70 for it to be changed out from a stretch to a French wire strand with a filigree clasp. I got it back on another cheap plastic stretch band. So they took it back and this time put knots between each pearl so now it was so big it fell off my wrist while clasped. They took it back a third time and now I have pearls glued together by the ends. Not only did they do an absolutely horrid job, they don't follow up on their calls to let you know when your jewelry is ready, their face-to-face customer service SUCKS!!! I will tell everyone I know how horrible this place is. They need new management AND some customer service training. That bracelet should hang instead of stick out like that... yeah - GLUE on PEARLS?!?!? read more

Fortunately for me my wife only wears costume and vintage jewelry so we only used them recently for a ring repair as my wife smashed hers in a doorway. There estimate for repairs was less than 1/3 of my wife's usual jeweler and they had in ready the next day. They also cleaned my masonic ring and it looks brand new.
