I ordered a custom ring from their tons of options. I chose a titanium band, makers mark barrel inlay, and USS NC Teak inlay. The only work needed was supplying a new lab grown pink sapphire and resetting it with new prongs. I was sold what I was told was an AA quality lab grown sapphire, approximately 5 to 6 carats, and charged $4,800 for the stone and the reset. After the fact, I discovered that comparable lab grown sapphires sell for a small fraction of that price, often only a few hundred dollars, even for stones of similar size and quality. I feel completely taken advantage of. Had I known the actual market value of lab grown sapphires, I never would have agreed to this purchase. Charging this amount for a lab grown stone and a simple reset left me feeling misled and extremely disappointed. This was one of the worst jewelry buying experiences I've ever had, and I cannot recommend Ballantyne Jewelers. I feel I was grossly overcharged. If you're considering having custom jewelry work done, get multiple quotes and research current lab grown gemstone prices before committing.
