Their selection of gear was surprisingly diverse, but I didn't get the sense most of the staff was knowledgeable in outdoor recreation through their own extracurricular activities, this was coupled with a hint of pretentiousness. Prices were a little steep on several items that I've compared to other retailers - and I'm not talking about big box stores, either. I'm talking other small businesses and outfitters. If you're in the area and are serious about quality gear, by all means, stop in and support small(er) businesses. But it's noted: There can be better deals to be found on the same items for sale.

I've never had staff help here that seemed anything other than them trying to make a sale. I went there today with a pair of Vasque boots whose sole cushioning had dry rotted after 3 years. The manager said there was nothing that Vasque would do, and recommended a cobbler on the West Coast who would repair them for $60. Instead I took the boots to Cumberland Transit, and 15 minutes after I had walked out of BRMS, Cumberland said no problem. All I had to do was pay $10 shipping to have them sent back to Vasque to get new soles. It also ticked me off that the lady at BRMS repeatedly said the soles had delaminated, when in fact they had dry-rotted, something I had to point out to her multiple times. In short, this is the worst BRMS store I have ever been in, and one of the worst outdoor stores in the Nashville area, which is consistent with the reviews I have heard from other outdoor buffs. I guess they stay in business catering to the Belle Meade label conscious crowd.

Finding an associate that wasn't on the registers was nearly impossible, and when I did spot one, they seemed to scatter when they felt I was going to approach with a question. On both trips, I ultimately just looked, didn't find and left. And oddly on my way out, both cashiers who were not assisting other customers didn't even interact. The store is kept in good condition and is clean on each visit. Always stocked well and easy to navigate. Overall, not the best Dick's experiences.

While Outpost Armory Franklin isn't as new or shiny as some other gun stores, they have plenty of brands and inventory (including firearms on consignment). Personally, we liked the clean, somewhat rustic, humble, down-to-earth feel of the place. (If you want super fancy tactical vibes, that's cool too, but probably not the ideal place for you.) Most importantly, we received kind, approachable, and prompt assistance from the staff who exemplified customer service by listening attentively and offering helpful feedback/suggestions.
