Horrible Service by the head bike guy. First of all, I noticed that the stores video display screens were down, so I let the guy at the front desk know, just in case they did not know. He was nice and thanked me. Then I was looking at the ski gear because I walked by and saw something unique. A really nice worker came over and joked around with me and helped me. Then I went to the bikes. I flagged a young guy down and started to joke around about the 200 mountain bikes they have...Houston is flat, right. No mountains. He got it! He said I need to go to Austin for some hills. Then, an older bike guy worker came over from the work shop area, and to make a long story short had a screaming fit in my face. Total tantrum. No sense of humor. Plus I don't back down from misogynists. He ran away with his head down when he saw me looking around, so I guess he didn't think I deserved to be there. The manager had to come over because he wouldn't stop. I don't back down. They're just bikes, right. I don't think the bikes were upset....I love to make people laugh. No such luck today. We were killing time and came upon this store. I honestly hate going into these type stores. In my opinion I feel it's overly priced and uninteresting. But maybe that's because I'm not a big fan of outdoor anything. That means no camping, No sking, No hiking, No anything that has bugs, snakes, frogs etc. Lol Hey what do you want me to say lol I'm a girly girl. Anywho. My daughter who loves the outdoors (weird kid) Wanted to look inside. I was hesitant at first but then agreed to take a look around. This was not the type of store I enjoyed shopping in but it was very beats, clean and very well stocked. If I was the type of girl who loved the outdoors This would be the store I shopped in. I usually don't do too many reviews, but I am very disappointed in my recent purchase. After hearing so many people recommend purchasing hoka's, I figured I would go try on a pair in this store. Loved the hokas right away! This morning when I got them out of the box to start my morning walk, I found what looked like a smashed 2 year old huge flying Tx coach roach. I didn't notice it until I walked a good 5 min. I have no idea how it got in there, but I am very upset. I plan on taking my shoes back this morning and hoping I can get a factory sent replacement as I don't understand how something like that happened. Especially since I tried on these shoes and did like circle around the shoes area. Wondering how I didn't notice. I guess the shoes are that supportive and great. lol . Granted I walked briefly. I know it wasn't from my home as I treat often for pests and haven't seen any like that in my home at all. This one looks old and smashed too. I was wondering if they were used with the laces already tied and complete, but did not expect them to be since the bottoms looked complete new. I hope I can get this situation fixed. Whatever you do, do not take your bike into this shop. They had my bike for 10 weeks. For the first 2 months, they claimed to be waiting on the part. When they finally got it, they claimed it would be a few weeks until they did the repair. After I reminded them they'd had my bike for 2 months already, they moved me up in the line. Went to ride for the first time post repair and made it less than a mile before the new part came back off. Clearly it hadn't been tightened when attached. Don't waste your time, money, or patience with the bike shop. read more

This is the place for cyclists. I bought my bike at the other bike shop in Katy, but take it to S&S for service. Great service at honest prices. S&S carries Fuji, Raleigh and other bike brands. Although I never purchased a bike here, I overheard the service guy tell some people today that they offer a $20 "flat tire" service for the life of the bike, which includes tubes and labor. There are usually sales, but some items are expensive brands to begin with, so know what you are getting when you compare to other stores such as Academy. I have purchased bike gear, snowboarding pants and some toe shoes at this location...quality products on every purchase. Great product selection. Service could be a little better at times, but if you flag someone down, they will help you. read more

There is no procedures for COVID-19. The salesperson did not have a mask, did not keep any distance from me, my kids nor other employees with masks. He wasn't very knowledgeable about the bikes! I called the manager the next day and he said that anything goes, the employees don't have to follow any rules. I called the Memorial City store and it was totally different and the manager had a great plan to prevent spreading germs. I was distressed as it was first time shopping anywhere beside the groceries in a long time. Very disappointed is an understatement. We wear mask to help others. Obviously, they don't care about their customers or the employees who are more caring wit masks. Try the Memorial City Mall location. read more

I usually find stores in this mall to be lacking in some ways, likely because they are typically "outlets" of their other stores. I think I can say the opposite when I compare this Sun & Ski to others I've visited. I find this branch typically has a larger selection of merchandise (and maybe it's because it's an outlet) and can easily find what I want here. I've gotten gear here for biking, swimming, hiking and even for my upcoming trip to Alaska (thermals can be hard to find in Houston). They do tend to rotate their goods by the season though, so I can admit I've been occasionally disappointed and not found what I'm looking for or they have it in such low quantities that my size isn't there. But when I do find what I need, it all works out. read more

My wife and my youngest daughter stepped in after getting off Megabus. My daughter was looking for a North Face water resistense light weight jacket for next winter. They saw the for sales signs and gave it a go. All female winter clothing were 25% off and she found the jacket she wanted. The sale clerks were very knowledgable and helpful. I have always had good experiences here, but they recently lost me as a customer. I bought a bike on layaway last summer, we put 50% down and was paying off the balance. My wife lost her job this fall so I took over payments, paid it down to where there was less than $100 due. Went there to make the final payment, was told I had taken too long and I had forfeited the money. That's right - they kept the money I had already paid them, and gave me nothing, no refund, no store credit, nothing. I emailed and called corporate but heard anything. I can't even understand how this is legal, but never, ever buy anything from these people on layaway. Criminals, in my opinion. read more

I would like to shop here but WOW the prices are outrageous. I have compared S&S shoe prices with Academy and they always seem to be around $20 higher even when they are on a sale. The bike department at this Sun and Ski is amazing. I've been an avid cyclist for some time and have gone to most of the bike shops in the Houston area. The prices at this store are very competitive and the bikes are very nice, but the service department is where it's at. They're very friendly (unlike most LBS I've been to) and are obviously into what they do. Everyone here will give you great advice and an honest answer to any question. They're patient with new riders, and ready to talk shop and technique with the experienced. They're very good at fixing any bike, and turnaround is usually faster than quoted. Not what you'd expect from a large store at a mall. This is the place i recommend everyone into cycling go to. You won't be disappointed. read more
