Society is broken, but this cycle shop is fine. What I mean is, the country that used to think it was the bastion of freedom and democracy is now acting like a dictatorship, with a supreme court enforcing laws that make the rest of the free world gasp and cross America off its Xmas list, putting rainbow people, women, non whites, immigrants, all of us, in harm's way, in a horrible, scary future without the freedom we were told to celebrate. Even the most extremist Republican out there should be disgusted... because yes, they are getting their way, but what Republican should really want his (or her?) way, knowing only 10% or 20% of Americans support it, and that it's being done against the will of the people using a broken, corrupt system. Thankfully whether you're a Republican or a Democrat or just confused, you don't need to be confused about where to get your bike fixed. The service isn't always the best (I should give 4 stars for how eager they are to close in the final hour of operation, and how unfriendly they can become at that time), but the products are good, solid, affordable, and the pricing is not bad, the normal hours service is really great, and the best part is that all of your money is staying in the community because this store, which has a lot in common in terms of size and selection with a big box store, is actually a little family owned business with only this location! Absolutely awesome service here at Society Cycle Works. Due to an injury, I'm stuck on a Scooter for a couple of months. The scooter I purchased elsewhere had brakes that didn't work, a wobbly headset, and some ill-fitting handlebar grips that didn't grip well at all. Brought it here to Society and Grant and his crew didn't hesitate. I'm talking nascar pit crew status. Completely adjusted, and corrected everything that was wrong and turned my Knee Rover into a Santa Cruz Knee-mad. The awesome Oury Waffle Grips perfectly lock on and actually widened the bar for better stability and comfort. I also forgot to mention they were closing and still got me in and correct. very disappointed long time customer. I took my bike in for routine hub maintenance and the mechanic used the wrong oil which messed up my hub. They also lost the shimano shift cable bolt and tried to rig it with a nut and bolt which then ruined my shifting cable. My bike is a belt drive so not a standard chain and the belt was put back on under tension which made the belt snap the first time I rode it after being in their shop 3 times to fix issues they created. Their response was " you may want to start looking for a new bike". My bike is no longer available for sale in the USA. Scott bicycles recommended that I find a bike shop with long time mechanic In house which I did. This shop replaced my hub, the cable, belt and due to updated belt drive system from Gates, I had to also replace the sprockets to fit the new belt design. my repairs were $900 not to mention the $65 that I paid Trek to destroy my bike. I fought with Trek for over a month and just received a check for less than half of my expenses as they wouldn't accept responsibility for the belt issue even though they HAD to remove and put the belt back on with hub work. my bike was all green and black and now have silver hub, silver spokes on back wheel so lost some of its cool bike factor. I was also in recovery from a knee replacement and without my bike for almost 2 months with their repairs and the final repair so hindered my rehab. I HIGHLY recommend using a LOCAL bike shop where the mechanics are consistent and would take responsibility for their errors vs a big corporation that doesn't really care if they have a customer or not. The Trek shop I went to was a locally owned shop and where I bought and took my bike since 2015. I never had issues until Trek bought them and went through employee after employee. read more

Brought my bike in for a chain replacement and found out that there were also damaged bearings in the rear wheel, which for the age of the bike I was told seemed to be a bit premature. The technician was looking for the bearings, which were shown in stock, but evidently not in the correct location. I was told then that the bearings would take a couple of days to get if they needed to be ordered. I called this morning after not hearing anything back from the shop and was told that bearings were on order but that they take a week to arrive, so there is no telling when I will actually get my bike back. The last time I had it in the shop for a check up, which included a chain replacement, it was unrideable when I got it home. The cassette, which I was told was not Shimano, was worn excessively. Not sure how the test ride after the check up would pass if I couldn't get a couple of blocks without excessive slipping. To their credit, they did install a used cassette at no charge, however, after having the bike in the shop several times involving either chain replacement or work on the rear wheel I would have expected that premature cassette wear would have been noticed at some point. Having the person answering the phone today tell me that he was there when it was mentioned that parts may need to be ordered wasn't the best way to handle the situation. Evidently he didn't hear the "couple of days" part. This is the same person that sold me my $3000 bike whether he remembers or not. read more

Spent 1.5 hours before we were helped before we were told you needed to have the original receipt when they knew we walked in with a trade. Took WAY TOO long. Kept bouncing back between us and another customer when we just wanted to trade in and get the next size up. Save your afternoon and go to a different bike shop or at least a different location. read more

The picture does not look at all like this shop as Trek bought and essentially destroyed the best shop in the area. Went on a group ride and one cyclist kept running up on the wheel in front and he would drift left to avoid, thus, causing the left side rider to adjust to avoid oncoming traffic. The rider was requested to pay attention and not to do this again on four (4) occasions. He did not care nor did the lead. My riding buddies and this former Cat 2 rider decided to be safe and have taken our riding and business elsewhere. And, btw, the lead tech who is very good on most things....mounted and resealed my tire, BUT inflated to 80lbs (it says max 70 on the Continental 32 tire). Blew out, spewed sealant all over my trunk. If it aint Trek, Shimano, SRAM....sad days in Sugar Land. read more

Great bikes and gear with a good old fashioned bike shop staff. This crew doesn't try to up sell you or provide anything more than you need. Example, after being told I needed new wheels and given an explanation of my different options and pro's and con's. I asked if I could see what my options were for just purchasing a new bike since a lot of tech on mine is outdated and my new wheel purchase would not be able to be taken with me to any future bike purchase. While we were looking at what they had in stock another team member strolled over to provide assistance. After I told him about my wheels he immediately made sure I understood I by no means needed a new bike and that the other team member hadn't put this idea into my head on his own accord. This may seem trivial but that little check by the second team member took down all my apprehension and let me know I was trully in good hands here. This is what I mean when I say it isn't a car dealership this is a good old fashioned bike shop. The team inside trully loves cycling and is their to promote it nothing else. With that after 2-3 visits I am sold on this place and more importantly it's staff. read more

I was in Sugar Land and stopped by to see if Society Cycle Works had a top framepack in stock or see If they could order me one. I had questions about size and fit. I could've ordered it online but wanted to keep my business local. They looked at a bike that was in stock with the same frame as my bike and took measurements. They ordered the Framepack and it was a reasonable price. I even received a courtesy phone call to let me know that it was in. Great customer service. I like to support local businesses whenever possible. So when my husband and I needed new bikes we went to look at the bike shops near us in Sugar Land. Our first stop was Sugar Cycles. I purchased my first Specialized road bike there 3 years ago. Their crew is very friendly and knowledgeable, but unfortunately they were getting ready to move so their stock was very limited so we left and headed to Society Cycles. We got there at 6:30 pm on Wednesday 2/22/17. They close at 7 pm. We walked into the store and there was a guy helping to fit a female customer with her new bike. There were about 4 guys behind the counter. Two of them were doing bike repairs. There was also 1 lady at the cash register. So quite a lot of employees it seems. Me, my husband and our 6 year old daughter were the only other ones in the store. My husband sat my daughter at their counter so she could play on her DS while we looked at different bikes. They knew we were there and NOT ONE person came to greet us or to ask us if we needed help. After 10 mins in the store we left. On 2/25/17 we made a trip out to Bike Barn in Katy and the staff there was extremely friendly and helpful. They had the hybrids we wanted to test out and we loved them so much we bought them. The picture of the receipt for our $1,547.91 purchase is attached. I guess Society Cycles' customer service shuts down 30 mins prior to closing. Oh well, we will never come back to this bike shop and will be more than happy to take our business elsewhere! read more

They have excellent customer service. I brought my Vilano bike into the store to have the rear deraileur adjusted because my chain kept skipping gears without shifting. They said they could work on it immediately, and I really appreciated that. They said to do the adjustment would cost $15 which is relatively inexpensive for a minor bike tune up. After the technician fixed my deraileur he said my front wheel was not true. He said to make it true it would cost $20 so I said lets get it fixed. I drove to Costco for an errand, and when I came back my bike was finished. They also tightened and adjusted the cables for the brakes. The total cost was $34.10 after the 10% discount promotion they have going for the month of Sept 2014. I asked the technician if anything else needed to be adjusted, and I asked if maybe the chain should be cleaned. He said "look I don't think you need it, and I am not here to sell you service you don't need." I appreciated the honesty, and he went ahead sprayed some lube on the chain for free. They have competitive pricing, and I like Society Cycle Works better than Bike Barn. I also support them because it looks like its a family owned business. I met the owner today, and I told him I was going to add their business to Yelp, and take photos of the store to help them get more business. The family and friends that works here are very honest, plus the location is close for all Telfair Residents without having to get stuck in the traffic on highway 6 to go to City Center for another bike shop. Driving convenience is highly appreciated and well worth it. You save money in gas, and time getting your bike fixed. If you need a tune-up the same day or within a couple minutes then I highly recommend Society Cycle Works. The owner of the store was so thankful when I told them I was taking so many pictures of the store to show the variety of all the services and products they offer. They get 5 stars from, and I will always be a repeat customer. Thanks! read more

I took my bike with a flat tire , they changed it but soon after it went flat again, after changing 2 more times, they explained me that the problem was the wheel, of course my bike was a "super deal" from Academy. They only charged me for the first time...very honest. Then I took my kids bike with a break problem, they suggested to get rid of that brake because the bike had a back pedal brake. So, I'm new to expensive bikes and lacking a cardio outlet due to COVID I took the plunge. I got a great bike, but wanted to simplify the bike by reducing the chain wheels. When I visited them and asked then on how to accomplish i.e. "take my money" the floor rep gave me the "what the hell" face. I tried to push it, saying, "look I'm new bikes, but it's what I want so how can I do this?"
