Super good service from these folks. Been going to them for years , I believe this is new owners, at least new in the last 5 years. .

My husband went in a few weeks ago for a cavity and was told he needed a crown. The initial desk staff were kind and polite to him but when he met the Dr. in the chair, he said her demeanor was condescending and rude. When she told him about the crown he tried to explain that he could not afford that, but she try to patch the tooth in the meanwhile. She refused and continued to be very rude to him, so he stood up and left. Additionally, he said that it took about 30 minutes or more for the dental assistant to take his x-rays, something that should be able to be accomplished in just a few minutes, because she kept messing up with the antiquated equipment. My husband's appointment had nothing to do with me,I've been seen once before and while my experience was not like my husband's, I did note that the same Dr. was rude. I called the other day to make an appointment for myself and was told that both my husband and myself were no longer welcome there as patients and that a letter had been sent a "year ago" of such, which we never received. While I was trying to understand what was happening, with a tooth ache, and explaining I had never been rude to anyone there ever and why was I being kicked out for nothing. The staff, the office manager and the Dr immediately started yelling at me and when I expressed that they were being rude to me, they hung up on me. As a side note, all of their equipment is antiquated and takes a long time to use and warm up. I do not recommend this dentist to anyone. read more

Honestly not great. They are always at least 15 minutes behind, but I've waited for almost an hour before. They make you book separate appointments for cleanings and x-rays. And they just sent me a letter threatening collections over a $50 balance. Which is desperate. Also, I'm fully insured, so a regular cleaning and x-rays costing $50 after insurance is criminal. If you have other options (which you may not because this is Lake County), shop around. read more

This practice has gone downhill since Dr. Sun passed away. The front office staff is incredibly rude and short tempered. The previous staff was so kind, as were the hygienists. We loved Dr. Sun and the current dentist is okay but I wonder if she is aware of how rude the staff is, especially the main receptionist is. In addition, they took over the practice and I had a large credit. They told me I had to seek a refund from Dr. Sun's widow. They should have refunded my money because they bought the practice. It was awful having to contact Dr. Sun's husband, who was grieving. read more

Please beware of this business and their unethical practices. My partner has had two different dental insurances in the last 6 months and both times sun dental was listed under the insurance as in network. My partner went to them and gave them their insurance and went in for a tooth ache. Later we were sent a very steep bill stating that they did not take our insurance. The only insurance that they are in network for is delta dental. Yet for some reason they told two other insurance companies that they would be in network for them. And to be more succinct, if they know they only accept ONE insurance (delta dental), then why did every time we asked they said they didn't know and would have to get back to us?! The only reason I know they take delta dental only is because I called pretending to be a prospective patient and asked specifically what insurance they take in network (and after the employee explains that they accept many different insurances, I had to repeat which insurance do you accept as IN NETWORK, then she put me on hold because apparently she couldn't remember the name of the ONE insurance company that they actually work with.) Fast track to now my partner then calls sun dental with our new insurance and we ask if they are in network (they say they will get back to us). Two weeks later they call and say there was a cancellation do you wanna come in? And we asked if they had contacted our insurance to make sure we were covered? They said no just come in and we can work that out later. We said we would wait until we knew insurance would cover the dental work. Today we spoke to sun dental again. They said that our insurance was not in network. They said that most of their clients pay out of pocket even though they have insurance. The good news was that after $1500 our insurance would cover out of pocket maximum. So the next two appointments would easily be that amount so no worries for us. Let me think? $40 dollars for 2 copays or $1500 dollars out of pocket at SUN DENTAL? MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IN WRITING FROM SUN DENTAL THAT THEY ACCEPT YOUR INSURANCE AS IN NETWORK BEFOFE YOU SET FOOT IN THIS OFFICE. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY BECAUSE THEY OBVIOUSLY DO NOT CARE THAT MOST PEOPLE IN LAKE COUNTY CAN'T AFFORD DENTAL WORK OUT OF POCKET. read more

Ihave been a patient of this family practice for years ,I remember when dr sun introduced his daughter to me and told she would be taking over for him ,Heidi was great and so efficient ,so when I broke a tooth I called for an extraction ,after waiting for over a month I went in for my appointment ,I was shocked at how I was treated ,not only did I not get the extraction ,I was given a referral to a doctor who had never heard of sun dental ,in Santa Rosa a 3 hour drive for a fifteen minute procedure ,and now I still cannot get any help ,but ,the thing that was wrong was that they just slipped in another dentist ,and didnt even bother to call their patients ,this is not the sun dental we have always relied on and its clear they dont care about their patients read more

My daughter who's 19 years old, saw this dentist in September 2021. At the time she had health insurance with her job. She changed job shortly after that and has insurance that the dental office doesn't take. Of course a year later, this August 2022, she goes in for some simple fillings and cleaning, nobody asked if anything had changed, address, insurance, or anything. They proceeded to treat her in August and again in September, again neither time asking her if there was any changes. She being young and not remembering if they do or don't know about her insurance, had both treatments. Now in the middle of october, she gets a call, no written bill but a phone call, saying she goes almost $750 because they don't take her insurance. Every doctor or dentist I've gone to has always asked me for updated information, especially if it's been almost a year since I was seen by them. When I tried to talk to the lady there, she just put it on my daughter and said she should have told them. When I responded with you should probably post the insurances you do or don't accept at the counter or at the very least ask your patience if there's any change in information when they arrive at their appointment or when you book them on the phone. They can clearly see in the computer whether someone was seen last month for someone with seen a year ago. She hung up after I made the suggestion. She actually said she can either pay it or it can go to collections. That's exactly what a 19 year old wants to start their life out with, collections. read more

I called to make an appointment and asked if they accepted my insurance. The receptionist said yes and I went in for an appointment. I went in with the dental assistant and she said they were going to take xrays. I told her that I had a dentist in Kelseyville that I signed a release so they could get them. she said we will just take new ones. No mention that my ins may not pay for it. I received a bill and my ins only paid for a very small part of it. I went in to ask about it and she said we are not in your insurances network. I said why didn't you tell me that when I came in and gave you my ins info. She was very rude about it and said that wasn't her job. I wrote a letter explaining I would not have let them take new xrays if I knew this and I was not going to pay for the xrays and I included a check for part of the visit. She send me a letter threatening to take it to collections. Then I told her I didn't appreciate being threatened. She again told me it was all my responsibility. She was very rude and I asked for the office manager, she said she was the manager. Very rude. I will never step a foot in that office again and hope other people read this and go somewhere else. I have never never been treated like that. I have insurance that covers 100% of routine visits. read more

Don't go to this dentistry. I went in for a teeth cleaning and got a bill that included triple charges($245x3)for the same procedure on a single tooth that required some deep cleaning. My bill was $1239...! After insurance, my net bill was $384...! When I complained, they threatened to send my bill to collections! read more

Very friendly and professional staff!! I was sent to Sun Dental for C&P exam for evaluation for Veterans Affairs for service related conditions. I arrived early and helped very quickly by staff. My exam by Dr Sun was conducted in a thorough and professional manner which was a much needed change from how dentistry operates in the military. I have a long history of dental work starting with braces, broken molars, sensitivity through the roof, crowns, broken crowns, swallowed crowns, root canals over a span of 25 years. I've bounced around Dentists while enlisted and a few states as a civilian. My criteria for an excellent Dentist office is: 1. Control the pain with as many shots (even hard palate) and numbing stuff as it takes. 2. Do quality work. I know caps stay stuck on my teeth. Caps should stay put on me for at least ten years. Not 2 or less. 3. Be willing to correct mistakes without being defensive. I've been going to Sun Dental for a year or so now and plan to stick with them for my dental problems as they come up and maintenance. They have exceeded my expectations at every single visit. Professional and high quality team of people who care about doing a good job. Get well asap Dr. Sun, but do know that things are still very good and the temp guy you have now ROCKS along with your staff. Lakeport is lucky to have him here while you're out. Everyone here, from the receptionists to doctor Heidi to our hygienist Tabby, are so friendly and professional. My husband was nervous to go to a dentist since he hasn't gone since he was a child. He came back from our cleaning boasting about how nice everyone was and how great our cleaning went. Tabby did such an amazing job, especially since there was years of build up. She talked through everything she was going to do, chatted with us the whole time, made it an amazing experience. When checking out I asked a simple question from the receptionist and got so much information back on the subject. Stuff I never even knew about. I highly recommend this place. read more

The staff was nice but the prices are through the roof.Was told that I would have to have ALOT of work done.However I don't have dental insurance and they don't really seem like they want to work with people on a payment plan.I need a root canal which I was told would be about$1600 and would have to go out of town to do it.The dentist told me she was going to have an antibiotic called in to the pharmacy for me and they never did That was almost 3 days ago.I was referred to this dental office and told that they would work with me.I'm so disappointed and am alot of pain because of my dental issues.Now I don't know what to do. read more

I love this place. The staff are great and Dr Sun is personable and sweet. She spent a long time with me discussing my issues and possible solutions, instead of being disinterested and wanting to get me out of there as soon as possible (something I've experienced many times with various types of doctors). DO NOT GO TO THIS DENTIST! My husband had the worst experience here! He went in for tooth pain and Dr. Sun didn't take an xray to see why and started doing a filling. That filling turned into a root canal, that my husband was unaware of. She then broke the file in his root which she did not tell him about. She then tells him he needs to go to a specialist to have them finish the root canal. We end up going to a better dentist and Sun Dental sends our NEW dentist the WRONG xrays. They had my husbands name on them, but were NOT his mouth. We have had two different dentist tell us that the tooth she did a root canal on did not even need it. This has cost us $750 out of pocket because she grounded down the tooth so much that the new dentist took 3 hours to build his tooth back up for a crown. We filed a grievance with our insurance company and Dr. Sun lied about everything she stated. This is the worst place I have ever been to and NO ONE should go here! read more

Wish I could give a minus 5 stars....Dr. Heidi is cold and detached. Worst experience of me and my husband in the dental field. She is incompetent and doesn't really have a handle on the clinical end. Her employees are like life insurance salespeople that work only for commission. Stay away!!! Her deceased father had a great reputation and I think she's working off that...but soon that won't be enough. Avoid this place at all costs. Fillings were done incorrectly along with unnecessary filing that caused permanent issues and pain. (I had zero pain before going here.) Dr. Sun and her assistant also made derogatory comments speaking about me in the third person...while I was right there...really?! Incredibly poor professionalism. Poor medical skill. And to top it off the hygenist spent an entire visit recounting a story of how she neglected her dog to the point of the dogs death. Turns out if your dog doesn't eat or drink for 5+ days and you do absolutely nothing about it, the dog dies. Surprise surprise. And she wanted sympathy for this criminal level of neglect. I will never set foot near this place again and I suggest you do the same. Nothing good will come of it. And all I heard from neighboring chairs while I was their were other complaints and issues from other patients. Go elsewhere. Anywhere else. The only bright spot was the front office staff were super nice. All the actual medical care was incredibly poor quality. read more

SCAM.....hate to write this! as really proficient folks work here,but since the owner passed it sucks ...and I will tell you why. The Dad who started the business was a warm and wonderful man full of compassion for his customers and took care of them, he is no longer with us. His wife is still there from time to time and if you have the pleasure of dealing with her good deal. However the daughter who is a competent technician does not possess the people skills to help patients navigate the high cost of care without insurance! It's All About the Dollar! Meaning if you have to pay out of your pocket then expect to Pay High Prices with No Discount or break! And on top of if the sales presentation feels like a car dealership where they bring in a closer and tell you that instead of the $119. Cleaning you Need the $1320. Deep cleaning. Which is painful for your mouth and your wallet. When I asked why it's so much money? the answer was, "because it's so much more work, you were in the chair for over an hour," A Fat Lie as I paid close attention to my watch when we started and it was barely 45mins! To which the reply was "oh well we will make sure that she didn't miss anything when you come back." Wow that makes me feel even better about being taken advantage of, next time I overpay you will make sure it's done right. I hate writing a bad review and going elsewhere, and taking my friends and family to another dentist, but when there is No Love, compassion, and understanding for a client asking for a small break and your just a meal ticket for a business then it's time to go....nuff said. read more

One of our greatest regrets in having to move from Lake County to Santa Rosa has been losing the services of Sun Dental, upon which we have relied for close to 30 years. You may think that Lakeport is in the "boonies", but Dr. Sun manages to use the most up-to-date technology to provide the best possible service to his patients. I've been to several Santa Rosa dentists within the past year, but none comes close to Dr. Sun in patient satisfaction. I would never hesitate to recommend him to anyone seeking competent, compassionate dental care. read more

Wish I could say something different but this place is not a family practice anymore. Heidi is cold as ice and just cares about MONEY. I spent thousands of dollars getting dental work done here previously and have been a loyal client. I came back to have something repaired, waited for over an hour to be seen by Heidi for about 2 mins and then her front desk employer comes in to say just a temporary fix would be $400 and Heidi is no where to answer any questions (New crown would be1500+). I told her when I came in I was financially strapped. She offered nothing to hold me over until I could afford the work. When I went to the dental clinic down the road in a matter of minutes they had a temp filling placed to mitigate sensitivity and further damage while I gather funds and it cost me less than what Heidi charged for just the privilege of getting an office visit in which i waited for 1.5 hrs to be told she couldnt work with me at all and then wouldnt even discount the office visit. She made $60 in two minutes while i wasted half my day. I believe she is a decent technician I just think client care and compassion should come with her inflated prices. There is no reason to build a relationship here or be loyal you get treated like a stranger who has some money overflowing their pockets and she's looking out to be in the path of that cash. BAD BUSINESS!! I will be finding a new dentist. read more
