Absolutely the worst. Having a major meeting on Friday, so I decided to get a clean cut before it. Told the lady just keep it business. I wear glasses so couldn't see a thing during the cut. 15 minutes later, she brought out a mirror, let me put on my glasses, and there are multiple clear BALD spots on the back of my head. I confronted her about it, she first denies it. I then take a picture and confronted her with the picture, she has the balls to say it's because of the way hair grows. I told her this is ridiculous, she just said, what do you want me to do then. If you ever consider a cut here, spend the money in a CVS for a pair of scissors and cut it yourself - and that's for sure gonna be better that what's she's gonna do to your hair. read more

Sun is an amazing lady - loud, friendly, and seems to have a little too much makeup at times. At $21+tip it's a little pricey for haircuts in Asian parts of most cities, but I come here regularly as this really is the best place I have found and well worth it. That price includes her washing your hair afterward which my car has been very thankful for, and the gel which only seems to make me more self-conscious. It's usually not too busy, but she does accept appointments. Otherwise, you could visit Han Kabob, Map of Thailand, or Koko Bakery next door while waiting. She is efficient, but does take the time to do it right and make sure you're happy. During which, expect to engage in a conversation about her life (which really is quite interesting) and listen to her lament that the referral of customers from her establishment to the restaurants nearby is only one-way. Growing out my hair after I had it chopped, layered and w/ bangs. Yup, had a birthday & felt I needed a "make-over"! Note to self: don't go fantasizing that a measly $50 haircut will give you the result like the "after" picture you see in those make-over shows! Desperately needing a trim, I went to Sunny because of the good reviews on Yelp! and possibly she'd know what's best for my Asian hair. She didn't do a bad job but she convinced me to let her take off more length than I really wanted. Guess that's more my bad than hers. $35 cut which includes a hair wash. My push broom thick hair with 'nado colics pours a look of stress on all but the most exceptional (clueless and genius alike) of hair stylists. Having moved from NYC, and having found the stylist of a lifetime there, I'm Mikey from "Swingers" comparing every inept stylist to my lost love. So, I called to request an appointment for 10, when they open, but she told me to come in at 10:15 which I found odd unless she planned on finishing the person before me up in 15 minutes. When I tried to give her my name she said there's no need because she trusted me... Ok. The next day, when I walked into the salon, it reminded me of another Korean place where I'd once gotten a horrendous haircut, then was convinced/tricked that a perm was what I needed to "make handsome boy, just like picture!". Please, tell me Yelp didn't steer me wrong. As I sat down, she explained that she always works to do the best job possible and felt 10AM would be a little too early today. She asked how I wanted my hair cut, then her fingers of glorious skill sifted through my hair and--remember in "Hero" where Jet Li and Broken Sword battled in their minds?-- I knew her shears would defeat my unwieldy mane. Sent my son there to get a haircut. He goes to college in Cleveland. We are from ny and he needed a haircut bad and couldn't wait so I checked out Asian hair salons in Cleveland and found Sun. It's very hard to find someone that knows how to deal with Asian hair and how straight and thick it is. I told my son to make sure he has a picture to show her and she did a great job. He was happy. Place is basic not fancy but we are used up that with Chinatown salons. Will definitely go back. Reasonable prices. Set us back $23 + tip. Go try it out and bring a picture! I went to this place last weekend. I have to say this is probably the best hair cut I ever had in Cleveland for three years. To be honest, right after the hair cut, I was feeling only okay which is always the case for me since I tend to find myself weird with a new hair cut (probably I look too much in the mirror to be too familiar with myself). But after a few days, as I get comfortable with my hair cut, I like it more and more. Especially the layering part is super cool, which I also didn't notice at the beginning. Great hair cut. There was only one lady working there at the time (the owner), she was very sweet and attentive to exactly what you want. I had her trim and style my hair plus a few chunks of color. I personally think she did an amazing job, because I'm not used to coming out of a salon with a good looking haircut. I had very choppy layers in my short hair which almost made it into a bob. The layers had very smooth transition and the choppiness is so perfect it looks like natural hair growth rather than done by scissors. She spent an hour and a half on the whole process getting all the details I wanted right. The whole thing came out to be $80 which imo is slightly pricey for Cleveland, but that's in consideration for my own motto of always tipping well too. So plus tip the grand total was a lil heavy. However for the length of the service and the skill of the cut it's worth it. And I only get haircuts annually. It's hard to find a salon that can cut and style asian hair well even in nyc, so I'm glad there's a little gem like this hidden away. Because if this hairstylist worked in a busy section of manhattan she could be making 10x more. But I'm glad I have a awesome place to get my annual hair-makeover whenever I visit ohio. The only reason it's 4 stars not 5 is because the decor of the salon was a little under construction looking, and I'm a big sucker for ambience when it is coupled with service. read more

I don't know who everyone down here has been going to, but the woman I saw today didn't know how to cut hair. I've been growing out my hair for a year, trying to get it to be longer...and I told the woman there this. I wanted a trim, maybe an inch off. 3inches later, I realized my hair is completely uneven and choppy. So I went back and asked her to fix it. BIG EFFING MISTAKE. 6inches later, my hair is STILL uneven, and choppy. She actually at one point said "Am I blind?" about why she can't get my hair even. OMFG STAY AWAY FROM MY HAIR. Soon certainly knows how to manage Asian hair. However, I'll never go back there since her cut is imprecise and takes out big uneven chunks, or leaves sprouts sticking out of the side of my head. Despite being the only customer that afternoon, she rushed through my cut. I had my hair long and wanted to continue to grow it out further. But she TOLD me what she thought it should be and started buzzing away! It'll take me six months to regrow what she whacked away in such a cavalier fashion. If she would have listened to what I wanted, and carefully combined my wishes with her skills, I'd probably be much happier. I love the owner of the shop. She's very sweet and loves chatting with you so you feel welcomed and relaxed. The hair cut I got both times was awesome. She really knows how to cut and it's super cheap for the quality! $30 for women plus tip, I always tip $10. $40 for an amazing hair cut is nothing. New to the area and tried to this place. Cindy is a pleasant lady and I asked her about how long she's been cutting hair etc (18 years) and asked if she's able to do the cut I wanted before going for it. I gave her a chance and my hair cut experience and technique was just awful. I asked for soft layers and curtain bangs from Cindy and showed her photos and unfortunately my long hair was butchered. I should've known by the way she was washing and combing my hair so roughly. I asked her to use a detangler after washing it so she'd have an easier time combing through my hair but she refused. I left with so many blunt straight lines and steps in my hair and went elsewhere the same day to get it all fixed and even then, they still had to get rid of so much more hair than I was anticipating because of how short and poorly Cindy cut in the layers. It was really bad and I cried. Thankfully it was fixed by Eddys on Coventry by a lady named Dee but even her and her staff were like WTF when I showed them my hair. And you KNOW it's bad when even the stylist doing someone else's hair from way across the room is in shock by how bad it is (layers and all the steps and chops). HORRIBLE! She should not have her place categorized under hair salon. It should be barber for MEN. I had grown out my shoulder length hair and wanted a trim back to that length. Showed her a bunch of pictures and SPECIFICALLY told her numerous times I did not want something she kept pushing at me. I warned her many times even throughout the cut. She was so quick and careless. She chopped off my beautiful hair in 15 minutes - in and out. QUICKEST and WORST hair cut in my life. She is awful for not listening to the customers request. She chopped off my hair immediately up till my ear and buzzed off the back of my head!!! I am completely horrified at the state of my hair right now. On top of that, she off-handedly asked if I wanted bangs...and before I could reply, she snipped off a chunk of my hair! and when I exclaimed that this looks terrible, again, she suggested for a shorter bang and snipped off another section of my front hair. I am now stuck with tiered bangs and buzzed hair. Like previous reviews - I am now stuck with hair way shorter than I asked for, uneven butchered layers, and wasted money. Results: My hair does not look anything close like the picture I showed her. When I angrily mentioned that, her response was, "Your Asian hair is too healthy that is why it won't look like that style!" @*$&^#%!!!!!!!! I have never heard that in my life!!!! I found this place after getting my hair butchered at Great Clips (I know, what was I thinking). I walked in and the first thing she said to me was...What happened?! I looked like I had an indentation on the side of my head. Serves me right for going to Great Clips and having someone who can't cut Asian hair. Hair cutting is a very individualized thing, because the aesthetics of the person doing the cutting and yours have to match. No hair stylist is perfect for everyone, although some hair stylists are perfect for no one. All you can ask for is a hair stylist who's perfect for someone, hopefully you. Went for trimming just couple inches. She chopped more than 6+inches without asking me. My hair went short from waist to shoulder length. She finished in less than 10 minutes and charged me around 27 bucks plus tips. Worst experience ever.. so mad and almost cried. As an asian guy, I've been to plenty of barber shops or hair salons that have no idea what to do with the straight and thick asian hair. Luckily, the korean lady here is plenty experienced and knows what to do. Shes quick, fast, does a good job for the pretty basic cut that I get. It takes about 15 minutes for my hair cut, costs $21 and includes a hair wash after the cut. It's quick, simple, consistent, and never too long of a wait to get a cut. I am an Asian and have been searching for someone who can cut my thick hair. After getting my haircut in Kent, I want to rip out my hair - it was not a good cut. I then found Sun Hair Salon! The owner of Sun Hair Salon is the BEST! I explained that I just had my haircut a week ago and we shared a laugh! She said that not enough was cut off and I agreed with her. I have been getting my hair cut by her ever since. She also colors hair and perms. Her techniques are updated and she is very comfortable with using razors and scissors. Her prices are very reasonable and she has great rapport with her customers. My husband enjoys haircuts from her. She knows how to cut both men and women hair. I watched her transform a young lady into the style that flattered her features. When I found a new style that I wanted to try I brought the picture in and asked her if it would look good on me. She made it look better. Since she is the sole owner and only stylist the wait can be up to 15 minutes. She is worth waiting for! I am an Asian man and have trouble finding someone who knows how to cut my hair since I move out to college. My hair is extremely stiff, abd made worse by the chlorine in the pool since I am a regular swimmer. For $20 a haircut, it was 100x better than the $35 haircut I got in Boston (& that was a final selection after trying out four places in Boston). I have my fair share of experience in finding the right place for my haircuts - and I will say hands-down she's the best that I have ever had. The location is great for an Asian salon located next to Koko Bakery on Payne Avenue in "Chinatown". The exterior has Korean characters on their windows letting you know that is Korean run. The interior is very clean, looking like any other salon. The only difference is that there are Korean decorations and Asian style magazines. Shall I go on to the service? I will be speaking from an Asian American male perspective. I am very particular about my hair, but I also like trying new things and new places. With my hair getting to an unacceptable length, I decided to try a new place. I had my doubts about going to an Asian salon because I usually get a fade and taper which is a cut that is very American. I ultimately decided to take a risk though because my logic is that any barber or cosmetologist who has any skill would be able to take direction. I was dead wrong. The woman running this place has no sense of symmetry. I don't care if you have never given someone a fade taper, but you have to at least provide a symmetrical hair cut. I usually ask for a 0 on the sides and back blended into one inch on the top and bangs. After the preliminary cut, I told her that there were patches of light and dark spots on my sides and back. Without even using combs for measurements, she attempts to fix me up. OF COURSE the cut is going to come out uneven if you don't precisely use a comb. After spending 3/4s of the time fixing uneven spots, I ultimately told her that I will make it easy on her and to just shave my head....oh well, this mistake gave me the opportunity to try baldness and to know to always stick to actual barbershops for fade tapers. No wonder FOBs who always go to these Asian salons always end up with horrendous haircuts. This head shave cost me $21 without tip. The woman was of course growing impatient with my requests to fix HER mistakes so she expressed this by loudly sighing. LOL. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to....never mind. I won't be that mean and demeaning. Your mileage may vary if you are getting a woman's cut or if you don't have standards for symmetry. Now I can go as an Asian Walter White or monk for Halloween. read more

I wanted to give no star but it seems like there is no such option in Yelp. She ruined my hair style and I have to wait for two months to let my hair grow. Funny thing is I not only told her what I wanted but showed her my photo. This was not a pop icon's photo but just my regular photo. So I would guess it would not be that difficult to follow the photo and have my hair cut like this. But it turned out that she didn't listen to what I said at all. And one more thing is she doesn't know at all how to cut an Asian guy's bang. She was so rude. When she ruined my style she didn't even apologize to me but said I should have been more specific. After all, I showed her my photo and even googled those terms for haircut. How on earth does she want me to be "specific"? She should not be a hair stylist at all.
