This is an excellent nursery. I was looking for a worthy replacement for my favorite nursery the sadly defunct Behnke's and Sun Nurseries rises to the challenge. I was completely overwhelmed by this place. They have an enormous selection of outdoor shrubs, trees, etc. My wife and I came here last Saturday looking for outdoor fruit trees and shrubs. They had plenty varieties of apply, pear, cherry, and plum trees to choose from. They also had many blueberry variants, and other fruit shrubbery and plants. I don't remember seeing such variety at any of the other nurseries in the area (Central MD.) In the end, we left with a healthy blueberry bush and some herbs. All were reasonable priced. The only negative about this place is that they didn't have too much in indoor houseplants, herbs, or vegetables. I don't think this place is concerned with those items though. If you're looking for anything outdoors, this is definitely the place to go. read more

We have had a long winter here in Central-Northern Maryland. It's the first week of April and our daffodils are just beginning to bloom. I wasn't too sure how much of a selection I would find visiting Sun Nurseries today but I was pleasantly surprised by their variety. They had a number of early-spring annuals, perennials and trees just waiting to be taken home. We just moved to this neck of the woods about two years ago and are just now getting around to giving our landscaping attention. With three young children in tow, I received excellent service and advice. I had a number of questions prepared. The staff is very knowledgeable and if they're not sure of something, they find someone else quickly who can answer your questions. Service is terrible... they act like they are doing you a favor to even sell you plants..... their inventory is not great this year..... their prices are also very high for the quality of merchandise they have... this year their hydrangeas got damaged in the frost and they were still trying to sell them for full price...... read more

Great selection of healthy plants. Prices are a little high but you get what you pay for.

I drove there to find boxwoods and annuals for a complete makeover. Everyone there was very helpful and knowledgeable. I ended finding exactly what I needed and some. It's definitely worth traveling to even if you don't live near there. read more

My daughter worked there for a couple of months and had to leave for personal reasons but I have to say this. You could not work for better people. Let me start out by saying when you ask the rep where a particular plant is located in their vast nursery they walk you to the plant and answer whatever questions you might have instead of just pointing the where the plant is located and walk away. Edgar at Sun Nurseries in Woodbine delivered a landscape plan for my front yard that accomplished my objectives and exceeded expectations, all within budget. He listened to what I had in mind, came up with a creative design, and helped me select each plant from the nursery. Along with their excellent landscaping installation, the crew from Sun Nurseries expertly trimmed and pruned existing plants around the back and sides of the house. We purchased several trees and shrubs (8) from Sun Nurseries. More than half of what we purchased is barely alive. One seems to be doing pretty well, the rest are on the fence. Not dead but certainly not flourishing either. We contacted them and even sent them pictures and described in detail how we planted them and took care of them. The most they would offer us was 50% replacement value. Many other nurseries guaranty their plants 100%, including Johnson's, Lowes and Home Depot. Sun should follow suit. We will not be shopping there again. We are hardly amateur gardeners and have 3.5 acres and over 20 fruit trees, an herb garden, vegetable garden, flower garden and do volunteer work at a DC botanical garden. read more

Along with a friend, I have visited Sun Nurseries in the past. Driving 30+ miles from the Rockville/Bethesda area we enjoy a beautiful outing in the rural area of Montgomery County, MD. As we proceeded to check out, the price listed on the outdoor plants were considerable different than what was in their computer. Sun Nurseries had a sale on October 16 and those prices had not been changed. The vegetable market packs had three prices. The sale price outside, $1.67, the price on the identification tag $2.50 and the price in Sun's computer $3.95. I didn't pay attention until I later looked at my receipt. My friend actually caught the error and asked to pay the price that reflected the October 16 sale price. The Gray haired manage stood her ground and I quote "they have a business to run". No allowance was made. Shopping at the Giant supermarket, if the sale price of an item is outdated but still marked on the shelf, you pay the outdated sales price. This is how a successful business is run. A warning to all shoppers at Sun Nurseries. The prices in Sun Nurseries computer vary on the prices marked on their products. Their core values don't reflect the satisfaction of the customer. read more

We recently moved into a new home and the backyard was bare. Sun provided us free design advice and took so many elements (deer, shade, kids) into consideration. I used Sun to design and install plants in the front, side, and back of my townhouse. I could not be more pleased. The designer, Donna Leigh, listened to my requirements and wishes and, mixing in her own creativity, came up with a wonderful plan keeping within my budget for the project. She worked with my HOA process. The install crew was very professional. They roto-tilled the area, adding good soil and compost. After I approved where each plant was set, they put them in and covered the area with a very generous amount of mulch. Sun had been recommended by several of my neighbors- I'm glad I listened to them. read more

This is one of my go-to garden centers, along with Behnke's in Beltsville. Their selection is oriented more toward shrubs and trees rather than a full range of plants. I too had a problem early-on with plants dying that I had purchased there. I'm not sure why, but it may have had something to do with the conditions under which the plants were grown, perhaps not compatible with my suburban conditions. However, everything I've bought in the last couple of years has done quite well, so either they fixed something or I got better at properly siting the plants. Today, I'm off to check out their Japanese maple selection. read more
