    84 Lumber

    84 Lumber

I work for a construction company as their office manager, so I don't know much about the other…read moreside of the field. I was tasked to pick up lumber and haul it to a site due to an employee calling out. I spoke with I think it was Graham and he provided the best customer service. From assisting with loading to explaining how I should drive with lumber sticking out the flatbed, he simply killed it. Made my day 20x less stressful. Five stars, would haul from here again.

We had the worst customer service experience we've ever had at this store. It's almost too long to…read morerecount here but I will give it a try. We ordered an Anderson patio door here in October and specified that we wanted an outswing door. From this point on, every single encounter with 84 Lumber was full of frustrations. Our name/contact info was never entered into the system so any time I called, it was like pulling teeth to even get started. The delivery of the door was scheduled but then the day of delivery, no one showed up so after multiple phone calls, we found out that the person who ordered our door and scheduled the delivery had been fired. We finally had it delivered and the contractor came a few days later to install the door. Turns out the fired employee ordered the wrong door. Not only did it not open out, it was also a lower-quality door. Which the contractors did not realize until they had already taken out the old door. Given that this was now November, they had to install the wrong door so that we weren't living with a hole in the wall. When we called 84 Lumber to make sure we wouldn't be charged for this, we were told the manager didn't even bother to show up that day but the visiting manager assured us that we should go ahead with the installing of the wrong door until the correct door could be ordered/installed. So we went into the store 2 days later to order the correct door. The salesperson printed out the invoice so that we could double-check it. At this point we found out that we had been overcharged for the lower-quality wrong door by $1400!! The manager did not seem at all concerned about this, which only makes me wonder how many times this kind of fraud is happening. We were told the door would arrive on 12/20. I called the store on 12/20 and was told the door was in. They never called to tell us. Based on the label on the box, we think it had arrived to the store at least a week prior. Why were we not called? Because of this delay, it could not be installed before January. Luckily, this was the correct door. But of course, the contractors had to come out again to take out the wrong door and put in the right door. So we paid the contractors $500 more than we would have if it had been the right door to begin with. As long as this summary is, it cannot adequately capture the hassle and stress that we had to go through thanks to this store's complete incompetence. The only good thing is that had we not gotten the wrong door, we would have never known we had been overcharged by $1400. But you cannot overcharge a customer by that amount of money and act like it's no big deal. You cannot screw something up so entirely that the customer has to pay $500 more for the contractor to fix the issue. I have never experienced such incompetence in my life. If I was this bad at my job, I would have been fired years ago.

We contracted CDG to do a roofed deck to attached to our house being built by another builder. I have to say that I was highly impressed with Pete Sorge, Dan Brewer and their team. Dan Brewer was very patient and responsive during the initial consultative phase. There were 2 companies competing for our business and we are glad we went with CDG. They showed us a cheaper and efficient way to build our outdoor kitchen, saving us close to $7000 on the kitchen alone. Meeting Pete was also pleasurable experience. He was equally patient and pleasant and very flexible to meet our needs. Both guys are very laid back ease your mind. When we scaled down our walkway, the amount of credit we got was very generous. They have an open process for their pricing. We felt so much at ease that we added other aspects like walkway, front entry and mailbox. Their crew of workers were very dedicated; came to work in the cold and snowy days. My 10 and 11 years olds were asking us to get the hot chocolate to keep them warm. CDG was the definitely brightest spot throughout this second construction process, and their work was served as our stress release from the builder of the main house. The work is not half done but I have no doubt we selected the best group with reasonable pricing. We definitely have our peace of mind now. UPDATE: Since writing my earlier review, we have found that the progress of work has been very slow. Most of the time they have one mason on site. It seems to us there is no commitment to our project and finishing it soon enough so we can have access to our yard and do other things we need to accomplish. It seems that they have shifted resources away to other jobs. If you choose this company and want your job done on time, I recommend that you insist on a firm timeline and include it in the contract. Also inquire about the number of masons available for your project and include it in the contract.

They managed difficult permitting issues and were creative in their ideas for and troubleshooting during each project. Everything ran on time and within budget. We particularly appreciated their experienced advice as to where they recommended we spend or save money for features or materials. The oldest project was completed over 7 years ago and each area they built for us has held up virtually maintenance and defect free. Cannot recommend them highly enough!!

I had hired 2 guys to spread this much when someone from Bussard Brothers pulled up and was arguing with them that it was moved and originally it was 10 yards. Then it didn't arrive on Monday, or Tuesday and when I followed-up on Wednesday morning (today) I was told someone was supposed to call me to schedule the delivery - but never did. When my load finally arrived today (Wednesday) I was surprised to find TONS of glass shards. I learned about the glass because my 4 yo daughter cut herself while climbing to the top of the dirt pile. Large glass shards, see pics from a quick 5 minute inspection of the top of the pile. When I called to ask for a refund and the removal of the contaminated dirt my call was dropped. When I called back a guy answered (maybe the owner, I spoke to a lady previously) was short and rude when I asked about a timeline to remove the dirt. We're expecting Thunderstorms this weekend and I'm concerned the glass will wash off into the rest of my yard. I still don't have a timeline on the removal of the contaminated dirt, but the guy begrudgingly shouted to the lady in the office to process my refund when I pushed the issue. As a fellow business owner I'm dumbfounded at this company's lack of professionalism and quality control. They seem to have decent reviews otherwise - maybe I caught them on a bad day? Moral of the story - if you order from these guys make sure to closely inspect their product before spreading. I'll be ordering from another supplier.

Chris, the owner, was very responsive and friendly. His quote was slightly lower but quite similar to the other companies who responded, and we decided to go with him based on the price, his responsiveness, and the reviews on here (particularly the previous review with the seam repair, as the "before" seam looked exactly like ours!). Scheduling was straightforward and we were able to get our ideal day/time the following week. Two guys arrived on time and they got to work right away to fix all of the issues. They were here for quite awhile, and worked really hard to get everything looking great. The seam is now closed up and is MUCH less obvious. The two stone pieces were also uneven, with one jutting out past the other, and they completely fixed it- you would never know! The cracks and chips are all sealed and barely visible, and we haven't had any issues with the counters since their visit. Chris sent us a link before our visit so that we could pay by credit card at the end of the visit (otherwise we could have paid by cash or check). Overall, two thumbs up and we will definitely be calling them in the future if we have any issues with our counters!
