Two of my friends and I, college students at Iowa State, wanted to get spray tans at STC. They were having a deal for $5 basic spray tans. We all downloaded the app ahead of time in order to make the process simpler. We entered the building around 40 minutes before they closed, which was plenty of time considering spray tans typically last around 10 minutes. From the get go, the environment was off. They immediately asked if we had checked-in, which none of us had, because we had never been before and didn't know the process of things. We can only recall one of their names, which was Ashton, and the other girl was blonde. They then acted annoyed by us not being checked in and then proceeded to give a speech to us on how we were coming in the "busiest month" and would likely have to wait 30-40 minutes in "super long lines" every time we came in. Mind you, there was nobody in sight when we came in. I tried to say that we did buy the deal in the app but was IMMEDIATELY cut off by the blonde employee basically telling me to shut up and listen. After this, we were getting registered and signing the basic statements they have to do. They made it incredibly confusing on what they were asking us to do whilst they were reading these statements. Ashton kept making remarks about how we should listen, so she didn't have to repeat it, with an annoyed tone. She then said we had to complete an "I have read" statement, for which I thought meant we had to verbally agree by repeating the statement "I have read". After I said this, Ashton laughed in my face and said yeah, that's what I just said, laughing in a way that was incredibly demeaning. From then on, we basically just smiled and nodded at what they were saying. We explained that we just wanted a basic spray tan, not any of the extra stuff they were trying to push. They claimed we "needed" primer, which is not true. They then asked if we planning on sleeping... with no other detail, which was obviously misleading. My friend then kind of giggled saying that we did not plan on sleeping in the machine, because that's what we thought they meant. Ashton, once again, then laughed in our faces in a rude manner. They then basically told us that we cannot get the spray tans tonight and to come tomorrow morning. There was a lot more irritating details to the story, but this sums up a majority of it. I am irritated with this as it was my first experience and would not recommend it to anybody. read more

My roommate was manipulated into paying for a bottle of lotion she did not even know she bought. They didn't give her the lotion. Then she continued to tan until they decided she wasn't allowed to tan without the lotion so she bought a sample for $12. When she left the location they handed her a bottle of lotion she bought a month ago and never received with her name on it. read more

Do not go to this Sun Tan City. This was my first ever time having a membership with them, and I ended up getting taken advantage of and paid way too much money (around $160 for a bottle of lotion and less than one month of tanning). The worker did not explain that I was only paying for less than a month of tanning plus a bottle of lotion that was way more than I wanted to spend (she did not tell me that the lotion costed as much as it did). Definitely do your research before purchasing a membership here and read the fine print. The customer service is also terrible, as I tried to cancel and downgrade my membership (which I was told that I could do by the manager when I expressed my concerns) and they told me that I could not whatsoever since I hadn't technically paid for a full month yet. I ended up having to contact corporate Sun Tan City customer service who allowed me to cancel entirely since it was my first membership with them. Highly recommend avoiding this location in particular. read more

I went to Sun Tan City a few weeks ago for my first spray tan! I was initially very nervous (I've always just tanned in beds, never spray tanned) but the two gals working made me feel so comfortable and answered ALL of my questions without making me feel stupid or annoying. I wish I could remember their names because they were so awesome. You definitely don't get service like that at all tanning locations. The spray tan looked great and the shade was perfect. One of them even walked me through the positions in the booth numerous times because I was very scared to mess it up, and she was very patient the whole time and so nice. I appreciated it so much. I love having a place i can go to get a full-body tan legally and without being body shamed! Sun Tan City has provided this venue for me, and now i have a beautiful tan from head to toe. The staff are very courteous and helpful and the cost of membership and for points is very reasonable. And i like how there is music to listen to during my tanning sessions! I went there for a spray tan for the first time here today. I've gotten spray tans elsewhere before and loved them. I went there and they were very kind and patient, however the spray tan costed almost 3X as much as what was advertised on their website. Inside the booth they were again, very helpful, fun and kind. I got the dark shade, and they told me to wait 4-6 hours for it to develop, and now 7 hours later, nothing has developed and I look exactly the same. I'm super frustrated because I bought all of the products they recommended and used them and followed every I instruction, and somehow I see no difference at all. I love Sun Tan City gecause they always have such great promosa d deals. However, at times when I've come in with 20 minutes til close, I've had girls working the front huff and puff at me. I get that you probably have better places to be than work after it gets dark but I'm a loyal costumer who pays monthy fees to go there. I shouldn't have to face bqd attitudes that make me feel uncomfortable when I'm trying to fit tanning into my busy schedule! Very disappointed in the staff. read more

I had a great experience tonight with Sunless tanning. I brought in a coupon from their website for your first spray free. Amber totally hooked me up. She answered a million of my questions with professionalism, confidence and patience! I bought a package to last me through the year. I love all the little choices you can customize your spray tan with. Clear or tinted, aroma(four to choose from) and other enhancers. It is awesome value to buy for the year. You can spray tan every day if you wanted to. She also recommended pre and post spray products to get the best color and make it last. Thanks again Amber and I can't wait to come back!! :) read more

I am disappointed at the service here. I went to the one on wheeler. I was robbed of $ 30.00 for a sample and my tan was $ 30.00 .. $ 60.00 for one tan session. I chose to not get a membership so ms Sierra figured out how to rob me good job sierra happy holidays :-) Do you love your career ? People do yourself a favor it will be cheaper to catch a flight to aruba or st.thomas, jamaica and get a FREE NATURAL TAN :-) unlimited tanning in the islands for free and you get a coconut on top of that. I am giving this a 1 star, not because of their services, but because of their membership agreements and pricing. Beds are clean, people are nice, lighting is good. I recently went in hoping to purchase a membership for one month, but I was informed that since the month had started already (3 days in), that I had to buy 2 months. When I asked how much that would cost they shot me a number and I asked if that was the number for the two months and I was informed that it was indeed the number for both months. This morning my credit card was charged and when I contacted them they said that it was in my agreement to pay for the next month and I cannot get rid of it or dispute it. Apparently when I signed up that day, the number they gave me was only for November, and December would be charged later. I didn't know that, as I had asked if what I was charged was for both months, and the girl said it was. It is in my agreement, and I did sign it, I cannot say that didn't happen. What I can say didn't happen, is that I was read this agreement in store. The first I am seeing it is today when I requested a copy from corporate. Had I known that it was going to be that expensive for one month on the cheapest bed, or that I would be charged again the following month, I would not have made the decision to tan here. So, buyer beware! Know what you're getting yourself into, and if you only want 1 month, go on the LAST day of the prior month! Otherwise you'll get charged double for one month, and then charged the regular rate for the next month. I can tell you from experience. read more

This is my second review because I have had my second horrible experience with this business. My 17 year old daughter got a membership at the end of June. At the time she got the membership she told them she only wanted to only do one month and wanted it to be cancelled at the end of July. The employee told her she would make a note of it on her account. Guess what - they charged her for August. I immediately called the store and let them know that this was a problem. They asked me if my daughter had signed a cancellation notice. I said no the person who helped her didn't have her sign anything like that. Today another manager called me (I think a district manager). She was extremely condescending and interrupted me the entire time. The only thing they were willing to offer was an instore credit. I asked her to stop interrupting me and she interrupted me again to say that she was listening to me and if I would stop talking she could let me know how she was understanding what I was saying. I am not sure how she could have because I did not have the opportunity to complete any of my thoughts before she interrupted me. I said this in my last review and I want to reinforce it - DO NOT LET YOUR DAUGHTERS JOIN THIS BUSINESS. THEY PREY ON THEIR INEXPERIENCE. read more

I am so done with Sun Tan City! My daughter signed up for the monthly unlimited tanning on direct debit. Stupid in her part. Well she couldn't afford it and she called and asked them to cancel her subscription (October)They said ok. Well she was charged that month. I told her that maybe she didn't give them enough notice and just be happy that she canceled it for the following month. Well November 1st came and she was charged again, but this time she did not have enough cash in her account so she got a $25 over draft charge along with the $30 fee. She was upset so she went in and spoke to the worker. The worker apologized and said that she did cancel it and that she would refund her the $30. Well Dec 1 came today and guess what....still no refund and she was CHARGED AGAIN! So far aprox $90 in unwanted services and a 25 overdraft charge. Well now the momma bear is involved and I'm upset. I will be taking measures in how to take them to small claims court! read more

There is a girl that works here that likes to impose her will on people. I have eyewear but I tossed the band since I lay it over my eyes and put the towel over my eyes to prevent wrinkles as I age. Last time she said that is not good enough and made me buy little pieces of foil (which also don't have a band-go figure). So I saved those for next time. Sure enough the same girl was there this time so I went to the car and got them, she had written a date on the back and said those were expired and I d have to buy more, so I had to spend even more to get ones with a band to avoid the hassle each time, again just used what I had. When my package runs out I'll be canceling my membership since I don't like people that go out of there way to impose there will and rules on people. read more

I am EXTREMELY unhappy with this business. I cancelled my membership at the end of March, but the clerk did not do it correctly and I was charged for April. I called customer service to fix the issue, and nothing was done. So I called AGAIN and was informed that I would not be getting a refund, but hey, I can tan for April. I didn't want the membership for April, though...a quality business would admit their mistake and fix it, but instead they shafted me money. Don't go here, they'll drain your bank account! read more

I have had such terrible service here. I went in and cancelled my membership yet the company still took money out for another month that I don't want. They don't refund & the manager won't do anything about it. I'm beyond livid. I won't even be here for the next month, I'm not trying to be super dark just wanted a base tan before spring break, & I refuse to use their service anymore.
