August 8 & 11, 2025 - Port Angeles/Victoria…read more As booked months ahead for our vehicle on the Black Ball Ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria ($218 round trip). Boarding was smooth--staff guided us through every step, from passport and pet vaccination checks to parking on the ferry. The vessel was clean, comfortable, and had indoor/outdoor seating, snacks, and spotless restrooms. Crossing took about 90 minutes each way. Customs in both directions was quick and straightforward. Before our return, we got an email about a cycling event closing nearby roads--appreciated the heads-up so we could plan an alternate route. Overall, an efficient, well-organized, and stress-free experience for first-time ferry travelers.

The Black Ball Ferry was a fun ferry to go on! Usually when we take ferries it's Washington state…read moreones and the ones we typically use we aren't on them for too terribly long. But this ferry goes across the Straight of Juan De Fuca from Port Angeles to Victoria. And this ferry ride is about an hour and a half so it's quite a while to settle yourself in and enjoy the ride. We liked seeing lots of other boats as we crossed while we had morning coffee, breakfast or snacks while looking out the window and visiting. Since this ferry trip is an international trip it's mandatory to go up to the seating area and not remain in your car during the trip. The boat encountered choppy waters from time to time so if you get motion sickness it's a good idea to bring medication for it. Prices are kind of high but again I am comparing it to Washington state ferries and Black Ball is not a state ferry, it's to a destination to a different country and probably other factors than involve the price. However if you are planning to walk on and not bring your car the rates are pretty affordable. Definitely worth it however and proved to be an exciting experience!
