In the air for around 30 minutes, we flew over all the attractions. It's amazing how small everything looked up high and just how much is packed in this Orlando area! The staff here? Totally professional, walked us through every option and step. Nice lobby waiting area. Our pilot? Top notch, voice guiding us throughout our flight. Any tourist or local should try this once! They take your photos throughout and offer a package to air drop photos to your device for around 38 dollars. Highly recommend, just fun. I also want to get my helicopter license!

For $6 you can tour the history museum, art museum next door, and the Mayan themed gardens across the street. This campus is Greater Orlando's only National Historic Landmark, and was originally an artist retreat founded in 1937 by artist and architect Jules André Smith. The museum may be small but it is big on charm. We took a self guided tour although friendly staff is on hand to answer any questions. The museum collection of historical artifacts dates back to the late 19th century. The permanent exhibition is titled Maitland's Attic: A Journey Through A Small City's Past. Displays begin with the history of the First Peoples of Florida, followed by the start of the Art Center, the Florida Audubon Society, and ends in the 1970s in a room that would be familiar to anyone who grew up in that era. Behind the main building is another room housing the Telephone Museum established in 1981. The A&H's Telephone Museum explores the technology of communications and the history of the telephone as you explore how communications have changed throughout time. You can learn about the history of the Winter Park Telephone Company which was founded in Maitland. The Telephone Museum has working antique phones and switchboards. We had a great time reading the signs, looking at the collection, and reminiscing about the past. Whether you're a local resident or a curious traveler, a visit to the Maitland History Center is sure to be a memorable and enriching experience.

Galloway. It is worth it's modest $3 admission. The Maitland Historical and Telephone Museum is part of the overall complex of Maitland Art and History Museums (however, in those reviews, this particular museum has no photos nor reviews of it). I will be mentioning this as part of that review also. The general local history portion of the museum is self-guided, offering about 4 small galleries of artifacts and information. The telephone portion of the museum is given as a tour, and has interactive elements -- with the guide demonstrating the use of the switchboard, and guests encouraged to 'make calls' using the crank telephones and the like. Even if the history of that specific telephone company isn't an interest, the telephone museum offers an engaging look into the development of the technology and infrastructure of the early 20th centuries, and visitors will doubtless see parallels to the information revolutions that have occurred more recently. I also want to particularly mention our tourguide, Rachel, who was extremely friendly, helpful and engaging when providing historical information. She seemed genuinely engaged in her subject, and went the extra mile in helping us plan out our day at the various little museums within the complex.

He is so friendly and engaging, not to mention a fountain of great historical information. The museum is two buildings. The front building is located in the 1926 old folks home that was created to care for the elderly who didn't have anyone to help them. In 1965 this building was converted into offices for the County Agricultural and the Home Demonstration Agent. They moved out in 1980 and the building sat vacant. In 1982 the County Commission approved the establishment of a Historical Museum that officially opened in this building in 1983. In June of 1999, the Museum was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Museum added a new exhibits back building in 2003. The Museum of Seminole County History is dedicated to preserving the history and culture of Seminole County and that of Central Florida. You start your visit in the Old Folks Home. There is a gift shop area in the front and you can also make a donation to the museum here. Exhibits throughout the museum include Native American history, Spanish exploration, American Revolution, Civil War, army forts, pioneer life, early transportation, early medical practices, the development of Central Florida towns, a replica of the Martha Gwynn Fox Room, police and fire department, and the Seminole Correctional Facility. The back building has a replica of a log cabin, buggies, early farm tools, and sculptures made by local artists from bald cypress wood from the Senator, the oldest and largest bald cypress tree in the US. The tree was in Big Tree Park until an arson fire in 2012 destroyed it. Some of the wood was salvaged for these sculptures. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to this history museum. The comprehensive displays were well thought out and interesting. I was able to pick up pamphlets and printouts that led me to other historical cities and sites. If you have any history questions Bennett Lloyd and the Museum of Seminole County is a great resource that can launch you into a deeper understanding of the people and events that shaped this part of Florida.

Like the PGA Tour's Workday Charity Open held last month in Ohio (https://www.yelp.com/biz/workday-charity-open-dublin), MLS' MLS is Back Tournament was a one-off tournament that wouldn't have happened had it not been for COVID-19. This was a special tournament, held in the middle of MLS' 2020 regular season, to mark a return to action for the league. In MLS' 25 years of existence, there's never been anything like it. It's just like how the NBA had never had an 8/9 Western Conference play-in series before (again, thanks to COVID). Like the resumption of the NBA regular season and playoffs, the MLS is Back Tournament was held without physical fans inside a bubble at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt Disney World Resort just outside of Orlando. Originally, all 26 MLS teams were set to compete in a series of group stage matches followed by a single-elimination 16-team tournament to determine the champion. However, FC Dallas and Nashville SC had to withdraw from the tournament, before either team even played a game, because players from both teams tested positive for COVID-19. Fortunately, the tournament was able to be successfully completed over the next five to six weeks. It would've been a great story had Orlando City won, not only because they were essentially playing at home, but because the franchise has struggled throughout its entire MLS existence. Since beginning league play in 2015 (yes, they're a relatively new team), Orlando City has yet to qualify for the MLS Cup Playoffs. Portland, on the other hand, won the MLS Cup in 2015 and were runners-up to Atlanta United FC in 2018. So, Orlando City's Cinderella story was cut short, but looking at the bigger picture, the MLS is Back Tournament was a win for MLS fans. In North America, the entire tournament was broadcast on ESPN, ESPN2, FOX, FS1, TUDN, and TSN. The championship match was broadcast on Tuesday, August 11, 2020 at 8:00 PM ET on ESPN. The Man of the Match was the Timbers' attacking midfielder and captain, Diego Valeri. FC Dallas and Nashville SC, the two teams that withdrew from the tournament, played two regular season games outside of the bubble after the tournament's conclusion. Architect and…read morecarpenter There are skilled carpenters and there are talented architects, seldom is one person both. William Waterhouse was one of these rare and special individuals and built a very cool house that reflected his unique abilities. The Waterhouse family decided to come down from New York to spend some time in the Maitland area of Florida in the late 19th century. Wasn't much down there at that time so Mr Waterhouse decided to build his own house. Since he was an accomplished architect he designed the home in the New York style that he was familiar with and since he also hapened to be a skilled carpenter he built the house himself from the abundant local pine. In 1884 the house was finished and the family moved in and lived, entertained and become prominent in the community. The house is impressive and cool but certainly not extravagant. The Waterhouse family would probably be called upper middle class today, well off but certainly not filthy rich. The house was of course changed over the years but was finally restored to reflect it's original character and even filled with antiques from the period. Tours are available with wonderful docents for only three dollars. You not only get to see the cool house, wonderful period furniture and antiques but also the workshop filled with old tools from the time the Waterhouse family lived here. The docent we had was great, she knew everything there was to know about the house, Waterhouse family and the local area in the time the home was built. Patiently answered our questions and gave us a great tour and history lesson. Since the house is right on the grounds of lovely Lake Lily Park after seeing the house you can spend some time walking around the park. A great way to spend a few hours while in Maitland.

Tour is cheap only $3.00 and worth the money,so if you are near lake Lilly come check out it. Its Only open till 4pm so come early. Good tour if you are bored and around the area.
