I was glampling at the Springs at Borrego last week and experienced a malfunctioning water flow valve on my Thetford RV toilet. The nearest parts house was SunBird in Indio, a 1.5 hr drive away. Fortunately, they had the part needed to repair the toilet and we were back in "business", as it were. Parts were not cheap, but I would have paid double at that point. I backed up our van over some landscaping that ripped off the city water connection (which Roadtrek unfathomably thought was a good place to put that...), rending our water system useless. Shad, who is the new owner, was fabulous to work with. I scheduled an appointment to have the electric brakes and drums replaced on my single axle trailer. The day before I took it in, my air conditioner also stopped working so I asked him to take a look at that too. When I described what it was doing and showed him pictures from my phone app where it was drawing 60+ amps when the compressor tried to kick in he said there was a good chance the compressor was seized and it was going to need a new AC, but they'd go through it and see if there could be anything else. When I went to pick it up he had great news for me, it was only 2 capacitors that had gone bad. He could have sold me a new AC and I would have never doubted it, but his honesty in only replacing the capacitors was so impressive that he definitely has all my future business. That's the kind of guy I want to do business with and you should too! read more

My fridge went out in my RV in WY at the end of my summer long trip. I put all my food in ice chests and drove home. On the way, I made an appt with Sunbird to have that fixed and to have wheel bearings repacked. I was to get an appt in a week. The fridge part was ordered, and I had to return to have the fridge part installed. They got me back in in a few days. If you own an RV, you know that sometimes you an wait 1 or 2 months for an appt. I was very happy with Sunbird's customer service, and won't hesitate to give them more work in the future. read more

Great place with lots of inventory and very helpful staff. I was traveling from Ventura, CA to Dayton, Ohio in my 32ft C-class. My toilet flush handle broke and water was leaking everywhere. I decided to stay the night in Idio at an RV Park. Took the toilet apart and started calling around to find parts to fix it. I called a few RV repair places and everyone recommended I call Sunbird--other RV repair places recommendend Sunbird. I actually took an Uber to the Sunbird and discussed my issues and possible solutions. We decided to jusr replace the entire toilet. Great staff and they even gave me a military discount. Had a propane line break and they were able to fix it right away. It was worse than we expected and took over an hour of under the trailer. This is a good old fashioned Mom and Pop where the techs know what they are doing. The atmosphere is 1950's hardware store in small town America but dont worry they are really good. They installed A/C for me in a 1957 restored vintage trailer. Besides doing a great job I learned a lot hanging out in the shop. I wont go anywhere else for anything RV or trailer. read more

Really glad I found this place. I needed a power cable adaptor for my refrigeration van and they were the only place around that had it. Very kind employees and helpful. I had been calling all kinds of places not sure where I would find it and finally when I found the part I was looking for, it was about time for the store to close. I mentioned I was on my way and would do my best to get there asap, only breaking minimal speed laws. They agreed to stay open for me a few minutes which I appreciated. Made it in time, cash in hand. I'll shop here again next time I'm in the Palm Springs / Coachella area. read more

I was disappointed with my experience at Sunbird. I went there in search of a trailer hitch. The nice gentleman at the front said he we get the expert. The expert chose out the hitch which had the ability to interchange balls and I needed a 2 5/16th ball. They told me to keep the receipt incase I needed to return anything. I went to get my horse trailer, tightened the ball onto the new hitch and went to put on my truck and it would not fit. The hitch was made for a Toyota and I have Chevy. It would not go deep enough to get the pin through. I ended up buying a hitch from Walmart since they were close by and had a great selection. When I went to return the hitch, the women who worked there said the hitch was used and she could only give me 1/2 my money back. All that was done with the hitch was tighten the ball. The nut on the ball was scratched from wrenching it on and off the hitch. She would not even listen to me try to explain what happened. I told her I would have loved for this to work but the expert gave me a Toyota hitch. After not letting me speak and explain what happened I told her this is not good business practice and she was rude I walked out leaving the hitch and with no money because she was pretty awful to try to communicate with. I have never felt the need to say that to any business before. If she had just listened and explained nicely she would not be able to sell the item for full price I would have been understanding and we could have easily have come to an agreement. The ball was perfectly never used but there was lots of scratches from the wrench. Hitch was barely touched. I love supporting small local businesses but do not recommend this one. Also suggest trying any hitch out in the parking lot prior to driving away. read more

Our experience with this business was terrible. We try to support community businesses and we thought we were doing just that when we decided to take our trailer to this shop which was taken over by a new owner. The owner Chad has no customer service skills at all. We took our trailer to be serviced and although costs for repairs was over the top we still wanted to have them done as our trailer was still under warranty and the manufacturer was going to reimburse for the expense. Upon picking up up on trailer and receiving a scribble scrabble invoice for work done and we asked if maybe he could rewrite the invoice so we could submit it to manufacturer for reimbursement. Chad became very upset and stated that he has no computer and would not rewrite invoice. We even offered to rewrite it ourselves and he said he would not do that. I would not recommend this business to anyone and would suggest that you look for another business to take care of your repairs. I do not believe this business will be there for much longer. Even his employees that we spoke to agreed. What a sorry experience. read more

Our inverter went out the week of Thanksgiving shutting down our refrigerator and with 1800 miles ahead of us, were kind enough to get and install a new one so we could continue our trek home to Iowa. Annie has always been a delight when I go in to restock on needed supplies for our coach and they carry a wide range of things every RV'er needs. On an occasions when I needed repairs to my refrigerator in the middle of summer but couldn't move the coach they actually came out to my lot and did the repairs on site, something they don't usually do. I am very impressed by the excellent cleaning service I got for the carburetor on the Onan 4KY generator in my motor home. This carburetor happens to be the worst in the industry as it frequently gum up. Onan does not sell any repair or rebuild kit for this junk carburetor but wants $360 for a completely new one. Thus most RV repair service shop wants four to five hundred bucks replace the carburetor. Fortunately Sunbird's tech is an experienced pro for cleaning it thoroughly. He opened the bowl from bottom, took all the parts out and carefully cleaning each of the components. It worked well after his job.
