The best location! I did not realize it's run like an air bnb rather than a hotel. As long as you understand that, it's fabulous! It's like being at your friend's beach house. The view and beach access were amazing. Its size allows you to mingle with others or not, depending on how you feel. There are lots of little seating areas on the property and great amenities, i.e., beach chairs, bikes, paddle boards, kitchenette, etc. Rooms are very clean, cozy, and have everything you need. A/C worked awesome. One opportunity would be the pull out sofa. It might be ok for kids but was really uncomfortable for adults. I would suggest more towel hooks/bars in the bathroom. We lacked places to hang towels to dry. Overall, it was an AMAZING stay, and we'll be back. read more

This was pretty disappointing sadly, my husband and I were looking forward to our stay here and the booking process was great. When we arrived the parking was extremely small but we figured it out, we got into our room with no issues but when we looked around it looks like there was little to no upkeep since they were on HGTV (not sure what year that was). Our room was not in good shape (room 4), something leaking from the AC that smelled and when we went to take a warm/hot shower the water wouldn't get warm. We texted the guest services number and they told us to run it for several minutes (20 minutes later and the water seemed to only get cooler). They said there was nothing they could do for us. The only decent thing was they offered a full refund but we won't be coming back. read more

After watching HGTV's 100 Day Dream Home, we were excited to see that Mika and Brian renovated a motel on the beach near where we live so we made a reservation for a short, restful stay. Unfortunately, our room, Beachfront, Number 10, did not live up to the hype from the television show and we were disappointed. But first, what did we love about the Sunburst Inn? The Gulf is just steps away from the property and the view of the Gulf is extraordinary! The weather did not cooperate but the one sunset we saw was magnificent! The deck outside our room gave a wonderful view of the Gulf and, had weather allowed, would have provided a wonderful place to have dinner or coffee in the morning. The surrounding area is quiet and, with the beach almost empty, it was like having our own private beach. The staff were extremely courteous and accommodating. The area is within walking distance of one of the best restaurants in the area, with others close by. There are other wonderful shops and fun things to do. The almost full-size fridge was great and fit all our cold and frozen items. The kitchen is fully stocked with cups, dishes, pots and pans, everything you would need to cook meals if you decided to eat in. There are plenty of beach towels, chairs, umbrellas, bicycles, and games on the premises to keep you as occupied as you wanted. There are also quiet spots around the property to just relax and rest. Some of the things that disappointed us: The room is smaller than it appeared on HGTV. When we walked into our room, the bed blocked the entrance. The two rugs on the floor were visibly filthy and should have been cleaned between guests, or at least more often than they are. For a unit that was renovated less than two years ago, the furniture was in poor condition and uncomfortable. Lack of storage. There was one small, open rack on which to hang our clothing with maybe five hangers, and it was full of extra blankets and beach towels which left little room to hang our things. Also, there was one small, flimsy dresser for our other clothing. It sufficed, but just barely. In the kitchen, counter space was limited. There were no empty cabinets to store personal items like tea, vitamins, phone chargers, etc., so everything had to stay on the counter with the motel's provided glasses, cups, toaster oven and coffee maker. That made the counter space cluttered, with little room to eat a meal. The air conditioner in the unit was not working when we got there, and as we found out later, neither was the one in the guest room next door. The motel did accommodate us by putting a portable floor unit in the bedroom area, but that unit did nothing for the living room area which faced the Gulf and got extremely hot in the afternoon. We got the impression that air conditioning units breaking down is not a rare occurrence here. The exhaust vent in the bathroom did not work, making it hot and humid after showering and leaving no place but the living room to get ready. The Wi-Fi worked sporadically, especially after a rain storm. Some of the hotel policies were also disappointing. For instance, check out time was 10:00 o'clock. It is usually 11:00 o'clock. And, for early check-in or late check-out, there is a $35 fee. This is usually a courtesy that a hotel or motel offers, when a room is available, and not something for which we have ever been charged. Finally, parking could prove to be a challenge, especially if the motel was at full capacity. Bottom line: The room did not live up to the hype from the television show. This is basically a motel room with a kitchenette. The accommodation did not justify the cost of the room. read more

RUN from this nightmare place. It gets a star bc the location is on the beach ... The place is dirty, in dire need of repair .. The room door top lock latch does not work,, The in wall ac does not work,, so 2 of the 3 windows have window ac blocking view & use of the window. The only other window, did not stay open ,, and was dangerously heavy when tried to open for air,, as there's no spring to safely keep it open. More like a Guillotine . And there's no screen in the window even if it could stay open. Upon arriving the whole back deck was filled with dirt & tree debree ((and stayed that way for the whole stay.. There was a dirty filled ash tray at our room door on the table. At over $200 per night ,,, this place was a horrible experience. Asked front desk for help for a better cleaner more functional room, and they said no fixing is being done to this place at all,, and they even said not even the rooms window screen sitting in front of window((which I didn't even see until they pointed it out)) They said the place is going to be closed soon for renovation on a hgtv show,, But that no excuse for the actual dirt in the rooms window sills, kitchen , etc.. It felt unsafe not being able to lock the rooms door,, other than the door knob. This was supposed to be a romantic getaway,, where I got purposed to.. Turned out to be the worst motel experience I've ever had, in over 15 years of traveling. No one cares about the cleanliness or customers of this place. If you are a high-maintenance person who needs your linens changed every day, a mint on your pillow every night, and your hand held through most things in life; then this is not the place for you. However, if you want a laid back vacation without the crowds of Clearwater, literally on the beach, then this is a great and affordable place to be! Coffee maker in the room, decks on the beach with plenty of room for all guests that face the gulf, beach stuff for kids and adults, and no hassle from the staff. We stayed in room 21 for $237/ night with tax and such. Snuggly fit 6 adults (two couples and two others willing to share the pull out bed) but we spent most of our time on the deck and beach. We are already planning our trip back here as we sip our coffee on the deck, as we are checking out in an hour. My husband and I come to the area from the Midwest about every six months. We have stayed in fancy condos on Indian Rocks Beach and Clearwater but this one is one of my favorites! As for the sheltered person who left a negative review, obviously one of the aforementioned people. Most resorts have a strict cancellation policy here. Maybe just stay home. read more

We just spent on one night at the Sunburst Inn. We saw it featured on HGTV so we were really looking forward to our experience. We were very dissappointed. We expected the cost to be a little high for a beachfront hotel, and the price was high. For a facility that was renovated less than two years ago, it definitely has not held up. The showers are disgusting, with a linoleum type shower pan that was torn and peeling up. The shower curtain was turning black with what looks to be mold. Door casings have large gaps of at least 1" from the bottom of the casing to the floor. The bathroom was very small, with my shoulder hitting the wall when I sat on the toilet. Also in the bathroom, no vanity or countertop space. The towels felt like cheap WalMart quality, very thin and threadbare and barely able to competely dry. Perhaps the biggest disappointment was the mattress. It was a cheap memory foam type mattress, that retained bodyheat and did not adjust to body movements. One awful nights sleep, or lack of sleep! We totally expected to pay $400.00 -$500.00 or more a night for a beachfront hotel so that's not the issue. This facility completely failed to deliver the value for the cost! read more

I have no complaints about our recent stay here! I was pleasantly surprised about how clean and nice everything looked inside the room. While the bathroom was small everything else inside the room was perfect. The room came with a mini fridge and small stove and microwave. The bed was very comfortable and the room temperature was great. The walls were thick enough to where you did not hear much nosie from outside or neighnoring rooms. This hotel is right on the beach which was an added bonus for the price we paid. Very reasonable as far as beach hotels are concerned....will definitely stay here again! The staff was great! Only thing to be mindful of is parking, there is only one parking space allotted for every room. read more

We stayed here for our honeymoon and loved it. In this day and age, there is no excuse when booking a hotel to not know exactly what to expect. I expected old school Florida cracker motel on the beautiful beach. I was NOT expecting the Ritz Carlton and that's exactly what I got. Especially for the price, I was more than satisfied. I can't really say I had much interaction with the staff, with the exception of a couple of gals cleaning on the second story when we were sitting out on the balcony. I asked for a roll of toilet paper and was told "only if you can catch it" lol. I was a little apprehensive about the wall shakers as opposed to having central heat and air. It was fine, but we stayed during a cool spell in October so who knows what July would be like? I also docked one star for the floor, room 13 please check it! It seemed like it needed work in a couple of spots but other than that I really had no issues. Pro Tip: There is a bangin ass barbecue food truck that sets up across the street at Mahuffers. The greens were to die for. Also, try Slyce for delivery because you know you're drinkin at the beach ha ha. But seriously their pizza was so good we ordered it twice. We recently discovered this place through Florida Barter & we absolutely LOVE it! We stayed here twice in the last month. From Hernando County it's close enough to drive to, it's right on a beautiful beach, cute, clean, & affordable. And, the owners are super people..... Can't wait to go back again! It's also pet & family friendly, there's a coffee shop across the street & a local bar across the street. There is a trolly that runs by & there are many good restaurants nearby. Fantastic beach location, warm and friendly staff, quaint Inn. When you see a lot of regulars return, year after year, that begins to tell you something. You won't find valet parking, multi level buildings with elevators and bell men, additional fees, plus all the things that "resorts" are proud to offer. On the other hand, The Sunburst Inn offers a taste of "old Florida", but with free wi-fi. From the moment you call, your treated like an old friend, a neighbor, by a staff that cares about your stay. We recently stayed 5 days. Our room, #18, was directly on the beach. The room was an efficiency, CLEAN, no bugs, queen bed, sofa sleeper, dresser, coffee table, kitchenette including sink, 2 burner stovetop, microwave, refrigerator, complete with utensils, plates, bowls, cups, etc. Flat screen tv, ceiling fan and A/C. Ample storage, nice size bath/shower. Even a beach umbrella! Step out the door and you will find chairs, table, gas grill, even a fire pit surrounded with Adirondack chairs. Pristine sand awaits, along with sights and sounds of the gulf. Sunsets are exceptional, sunrise as well. It doesn't get better than this. Family owned and operated, relaxing, affordable, quaint, unique. Kinda the way life used to be, not so complicated. If your looking for something a bit more fast paced, that's fine. Horrible place! Do not stay here! I don't even know where to begin. We got two rooms for 3 nights and they both were terrible. One room smelled like a sewer the entire stay and the other where our baby was sleeping had first size cock roaches roaming around. They do Not clean your room during your stay. They'll claim it's to keep the costs of the room low but reality is that they're lazy. I mean, the office is only open from 10am-1pm. Everything management related jus screams lazy. Not sure what these good reviews are about... Beach location gets a 5 star rating for sure but everything else is lacking. This is a dog friendly hotel yet there is no place to walk you dog for a potty break and dogs are not allowed on St. Pete beaches. Rooms are in disrepair with old furnishings, dirty appliances, broken beach furniture, and questionable linens. Parking is a nightmare. Only one space per room and that is if you can even fit in the tiny parking lot! Backing out onto Gulf Blvd is a harrowing experience as you cannot see oncoming traffic. Maybe this all could be overlooked if a charming group of people ran the place. This is not the case. Front desk staff are rude, abrupt, and very unfriendly. Don't overlook this review and 'just try it anyway.' Their cancellation policy is very strict and I would be surprised if they are in business much longer. The St. Pete/Clearwater area has too many other good options for you to waste your time here. read more

Sunburst Inn exceeded my expectations. Both Amy and Jesse at the office were very nice and accommodated my requests and needs. They were so welcoming & the property was quaint and clean. We loved our room number 20. A nice queen-size bed and pull out single bed with a comfortable egg crate. The full-size kitchen really came in handy. Nothing like opening your back door to the beautiful scenic view of the beach and sunset. The kids and I had a great time and we definitely plan to come back soon. read more

The suite is comfortable, a bit shabby and a little dirty, but it's at the beach and I'm willing roll with that. The construction about three yards away next door was distracting, with the constant sound of some machine loudly beeping as it continually backed-up, but not the fault of the motel. What is the fault of the hotel is the cockroach infestation. Everywhere. On the walls, the floors, under the towels, behind the furniture, everywhere in the kitchen. Tiny little roaches. This place is absolutely horrible not only did they mess up my daughters reservation she had to find another hotel to stay at because they cancelled her reservation after she paid for it the management is terrible absolutely terrible the shower had soap scum all in it we complained about the air conditioning making so much noise it sounded like a Mack truck was parked outside our window they didn't nothing about it nothing. When we tried to check in there was no one there there was a note on the door with our room number and with instructions that the key was on the bed the room was unlocked so anybody could have gone in there we will never stay there again we would never recommend this hotel to any of our friends or family read more
