My husband and I usually pop in for a trim whenever we're out shopping at Ranch Market just a few steps away. Prices are very reasonable too: $13 for men's cuts and $20 for women's. Weekends can get busy, so expect a wait. We had about five people ahead of us, and it took roughly an hour before our number was called. They use a waitlist system, which makes things organized--you sign up, get a number, and they call you when it's your turn. When I finally sat down, my stylist took her time and gave me a great cut. Bruh...I went in for a simple trim and you know what I came out looking like? An ugly penis tip, coconut head! Haha. It's funny to me now, but at the time (4 days before this writing) I was pretty damn pissed. I mean, it still pisses me off when I think about it, but whenever I look at myself, I laugh because I wonder how things went so wrong. Anyway, I went in and right off the bat, I knew things were gonna go south as soon as one of the women kept repeating "Hello, how are you?" How many times do you want me to answer that? Then I told her exactly what I wanted and she said "okay" like she understood. She began shaving my head and then said "you want long?" and I said "uhh yea, and don't cut the sides too short, keep my sides at the midway point of my ears". Hmm how do I begin, Have you ever worked at a customer place, where the customer comes first? If you have, you know that it's very common and professional to greet someone that comes into your store right? Do you and your coworkers play around? Think you're being funny by pointing at the customer that just came in without acknowledging them first? I drove to this place for a simple haircut 25 minutes before they closed(I was unaware of the closing time) and I knew that there was a possibility that I might not get the haircut today so I knew that I could schedule an appointment for another day, no problem, only to find out there was a HUGE problem. To drive all the way here, coming into the store, one woman working on a customer and two women near the check-in table NOT one, not even the women that came up to the girls who I know have been there for a long time acknowledged me. I wanted an ombré and I showed the lady who greeted me how I wanted my hair to be, she did her own thing and didn't listen to what I had to say. She gave me layers when I specifically told her twice that I didn't want any, and she only used one color dye for my "ombré." Which isn't a nice gradient or even close to what I wanted. They do a great job cutting hair, but first time getting my perm I didn't expect people to be so careless.. Especially when doing a perm because of the chemicals. I was surprised, I knew they talk a lot and laughed a lot, and that's not a problem.. But seriously? After leaving I still felt a burn itchy feeling on the back of my neck, assumed it was minor then 2 days later the burn showed up looking horrible, I like my perm but I don't like the fact that they were careless and caused a burn big as a 50 cent coin on my neck. Mens/kids haircuts for $8? Yes please!! I once saw them charge a guy like $11 or something because he had longer hair though. It wasn't really long, maybe ear length, but very thick. He wasn't happy about it, I wouldn't be either. No where does it say Men's $8+ like for womens is $11+. Anyways, my younger son has gotten his hair cut here for years. They have a punch card too! They always do a good job, but he has an easy cut. Shave 1 in back, 6 on top and blend. Can't really mess it up. I've had a never-ending strand of hit or miss experiences at this place. When we first moved to Renton it was my fear that we'd never find a hair salon that did just as good as one I went to back in Seattle. After a few okay cuts here by multiple different ladies, I finally found a hairdresser that impressed me beyond belief. From then on, I only go to her (Khanh) when I'm in need of a trim. It's so nice having someone who knows exactly what you want. It saves you so many grey hairs and anxiety when you're sitting in that chair. I always always always get the same haircut. A layered v-cut. I always seem to get better results when it's a dry cut and the cut is done mostly by a blade (razor) instead of scissors. That's what I got today, and it turned out perfect. I didn't have any concerns afterwards at all. Khanh was so careful. She started trimming the front first. Then she moved towards the back and worked her way from my upper layers to the bottom ones. I thought she was done, but she said she wanted to straighten it out one more time to see if there was anything she missed. Gold star for this move, Suncoast. Appointments can be made easily here. Just give the name of the hairdresser to whoever is on the phone, and they'll hand the phone over to them. Suncoast's opening hours are pretty extensive, but on the flip side, they are usually packed with customers. I suggest making an appointment or heading here early in the morning if you couldn't make the call. Having a hairdresser you can confidently go to is a great feeling! Been going here for years... ever since I moved to the PWN. Well actually I started going here after I found 108 restaurant which is right next door. Been going here even though I've moved away to Capitol Hill and now Renton highlands. Can't beat the price, $8 for haircut, $3 for shampoo and scalp massage. It gets pretty busy on the weekends but it's also when everyone works. I've liked Trang to cut my hair because she spends more time and makes sure there aren't any hair still sticking out (short mens' haircut). Highly recommended! read more
