The clinic is beautifully designed with various activities to distract and engage little ones -- they can enjoy their favorite TV shows, read books, and play games on one of the many iPads available. I thought last time it was just one bad day. 1) The office has interns to clean teeth. We've had two horrible ones, 6 months apart, who clean the teeth with no oversight or supervision. Instead of addressing our primary concern, the clinic rushed to perform a dental X-ray and a professional cleaning, charging us $185 up front. They clearly knew our child's diagnosis from the paperwork beforehand, yet they deliberately chose to run these expensive procedures first, knowing they had no intention of extracting the teeth afterward.My son has autism, but he is incredibly calm and cooperative. He proved this by sitting perfectly still and following all instructions during both the X-ray and the lengthy cleaning. The dentist wasn't even in the room to witness his perfect behavior! She walked in only after the procedures were completed, glanced at his diagnosis, and immediately claimed it was "unsafe" to proceed without IV sedation (general anesthesia).To make matters worse, when we refused unnecessary general anesthesia for teeth that are already hanging by a thread, the doctor told us we could just go home and extract them ourselves! Suggesting that a parent perform a dental extraction at home because the clinic refuses to do their job is a shocking violation of medical safety and professional ethics.
