This office used to feel welcoming and was filled with happy hygienists and patients. Now the atmosphere is completely different. The office is cluttered with dinosaur decorations everywhere, and the staff seems to have changed significantly. Dr. T appeared to start with a full team but now seems to be down to only a few people. [[HIGHLIGHT]]In my experience, her communication with both children and parents comes across as rude, petty, and snide.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I'm also concerned about the dental recommendations we received. My kids go every six months for cleanings, and at our last visit I was told my son had holes in two teeth and might even need two root canals. That didn't sit right with me, so I got a second opinion from another dentist. The second dentist found no issues at all. Between the overcharging, requests for reviews, and what felt like questionable diagnoses, I no longer feel comfortable bringing my children here (and we've been here over a decade). Our children have attended this practice for years and ever since the daughter took over, the service has gone downhill significantly. She is erratic and entirely unreasonable, yelling at parents with no regard for patient care. I am astonished that she must have so many clients that she thinks this behavior is acceptable. We've been patients for over 7 years- watch out, it's only a matter of time until her or her staff lose their composure with you, or worse- your child. The most friendly, kind, charismatic dentist and staff. They are awesome with kids. Dr.Pettinato also seems very appreciative and respectful to her staff. From what I have observed, she treats them like family which gives me a glimpse of the kind of person she is. I feel like she genuinely cares about her staff. She also does not try to do any unnecessary treatment like I've noticed with other dental offices. I have been going to Dr. Pettinato's office for 10 years. My children had to come in for dental work today. Dr. Pettinato planned to charge me 4 separate times for a very small preventive procedure that could have been done all in one time as they have done in past. I let the employee know in a polite and assertive manner that if they are not able to do it all today, I will go elsewhere as this always seem to be their regular business model, overcharging for unnecessary, additional visits. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As I questioned one of the young and professional employees appearing to be in her early thirties, she went to ask Dr. Pettinato the question[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]], [[HIGHLIGHT]]another employee in her early 60's with straight blonde hair setting next to Dr. Pettinato said, "it must be the red blood moon" just because I questioned my children's care and her business model due to the excessive number visits.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I did not pay any mind to her and ignored her very rude comment especially when no one was speaking to her. [[HIGHLIGHT]]When Dr. Pettinato answered both her employee and myself, Dr. Pettinato's face turn pink/red, rolled her eyes as she seemed bothered by the question. I agreed and said ok, "lets move on with the procedure, but know if you are not able to get all done, I will be going elsewhere." By this time, I was finishing the forms to move on as she still had me as a customer. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Both Dr. Pettinato and her 60-year-old employee continued pushing the issues and it went from a conversation to being verbally attacked and called me rude because I questioned her business ethics of what seemed to be excessive and for unnecessary visits, and my child's care.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I simply wanted her to attempt to complete the 4 procedures in 1 visit versus having to come back 4 times. It was a minor procedure. However, she'd rather sit and argue her point instead of trying. It is very sad because I thought very highly of her and has been great with my children. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My children and I witnessed her interaction towards me and were very disappointed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We all saw a very different side of Dr. Pettinato, if I would hear someone tell me this happened, I wouldn't have believed it until today. If she had more integrity with her clients then people will stick around. Patients watch your charges!! The office would charge the client $200 for an appt for a filling. After calling our insurance they said this shouldn't be and shouldn't be allowed. When mentioning to the Dentist Tierny. She went off on me to tell me that they didn't have any employees to book the appts and they charged you a $200 fee. That's not my problem!! She thought it was going to be ok that they canceled 3 appts and want to ask us what happened?? Yet, when she was rude her dad apologized to me and my daughter and said they shouldn't be charging us! Today we were kicked out, for me explaining what happened! My daughter is in pain and that's ok. That's how they practice and we know we're not the only ones who have been thru this with this office! Their excuses are they can't keep employees and they had to fire them!! That's not the clients problem either! Parents be aware of your charges!!! Wow, really surprised at the review below My opinion & experience couldn't be more different- enough so that I'm writing my first Yelp review. I have been coming here for nearly four years with my eight-year-old son, Logan, and it's been awesome. The waiting room is bright and cheerful with video games and toys, and the front desk is always friendly. The ladies who do the x-rays/cleanings have been amazing (shout out to Kiki!). Dr. P and Sharon tag team super effectively to keep his mind off of the tough stuff and even have a special nickname for him that makes him feel special. Their chairside manner is phenomenal. Even at (a very sensitive) three years old, Logan was charmed, encouraged AND incentivized not only into sitting still and allowing services, but being proud of himself after- and WANTING to come again! Dr. P also makes sure I'm informed and aware of treatment plans and options, and has made them manageable when the unexpected has come up. Just last visit, she fit in a double-emergency appointment because she knows I'm driving from St. Pete to continue coming here. I wouldn't go anywhere else. read more

I moved here 2 years ago and decided to have my kids go here. Bad decision! Make sure you check with your dental insurance that this office is charging you the contracted price. I had to proactively request refunds bc they overcharged me +$350 which I got back. The office manager refused to remove another +$350 on 2 rework that they previously did. Only after I had my insurance called them directly did they remove those rework charges. The office manager said it's a one time "professional courtesy" waiver but that is deceptive. My insurance clearly told the office manager that they need to write off those charges bc it's not patient responsibility under the contract they have with my insurance. Please do your due diligence and be your own advocate bc you will end up having to do the office manager's job for her. I would never recommend this place and I wish I'd followed others recommendations elsewhere before coming here. My mistake for deciding to go close to home. Don't make that convenience over hassle mistake like me. Do NOT recommend.And if you had services done here, then please check what your insurance say you should pay not what the office billed you for. I went back from the beginning and saw all these over charges and got my refund. My children have been patients of Dr. Erika Pettinato since 2006. I start my kids off early with dental visits, so they first saw her when they were 2, and then every six months since then. My trio are now 6 1/2, 7 1/2 and 9, so they've been to the dentist OFTEN! I can honestly tell you that we have NEVER had a negative experience here. The staff has been the SAME since we first started going 7 years ago, they've added some new staff, but all the "old familiar faces" are there. And they are excellent in handling children with special needs. The dentist Dr. Erika has a very friendly chair-side manner. I am never pressured about my decision to not give my children fluoride treatments, and they are allow parents to come in the exam room (if you really need too...now that my kids are older, I take it as alone time LOL) My trio actually look forward to going to the dentist. Their "treasure box" is a really cool token machine, so the kids earn tokens for their time spent in the chair and get cool prizes like mustaches and bracelets! The exam rooms are all very colorful with life size images from our kids favorite books and movies and if you child has an appt. with NO cavities they will take your child's pic with their fave character and display it on a wall, and then you get the picture on your return visit :) Pretty cool, and my kids love that. I recommend this dental practice hands down. We've never had a bad experience. The place is colorful and kid-friendly, and the staff are amazing. You can tell they keep their patients, because it's a little hard to get appointments, especially new patient appointments. My son first went here about 8 years ago, and now my daughter is a patient. The rooms are themed, which the kids love, and they end each visit by adding the kids' pics to the wall. The hygienists are so good with the kids, and they have movies playing in each room, along with video games in the waiting room. So many personal touches. At the end of the visit, the kids get tokens to use in the machines in the waiting room with sticky hands, bracelets, and fake mustaches. Very cool! We usually see Dr. Erika, but today we met Dr. Pettinato Senior, and he was super nice as well. I trust them completely and don't have one negative thing to say. read more

Save yourself a huge headache and time by avoiding this place. I went one time and regret it. I scheduled for first thing in the morning but they ran an hour behind. They were very rushed and the dental hygienist told my son to keep the toothpaste in his mouth when he's done brushing his teeth instead of spitting it out "to help with cavities". They also insisted on doing multiple x-rays that had already been completed and the place felt like a assembly line with all the kids in one room with little privacy. When I went to schedule the next appointment they moved offices an hour away. So I did not schedule appointment and instead I requested my child's dental records and x-rays. That's when they tried to say I didn't cancel my appointment?! and proceeded to charge me another $20 for a "records fee." Worst of all they would not email me the records and stated I had to come in to get them. They would not send them to my new dentist either. Not only is it unprofessional but appears to be unethical. My kids had been going to Pettinato's office for over 10 years. Since they closed the Dale Mabry office, we've experienced nothing but problems. First, we showed up at the Dale Mabry office for our appointment to find a note on the door stating that they closed this office! No text, email or phone call. This wasted a couple of hours of drive time. Then, I show up to the next appt. and they said they had called to reschedule. I never received a call. Finally, we showed up this past Saturday at 8:30 a.m. and the compressors were out so they called us 30 minutes prior to our appointment to cancel. I didn't receive the call because I was already on my way to the appointment. So much wasted time only to have to schedule new appointments. I like the dentist but they need better staff, Better communication. When I called to let them know we were going to a new dentist, they could not have cared less. Didn't even want an explanation. Really bad treatment of a long time customer. I recommend you give your business to someone who cares about you as a customer. read more

Overall my family and I have been happy with this office over the last 5 and a half years. Dr. Frank Pettinato rebuilt my daughters trust and comfort level with Dental visits. Unfortunately my daughter has had 2 cavities in the last year and a half. When I scheduled the appointment for my daughters 1st Cavity Filling appointment the office attempted to collect FULL payment for the Cavity appointment over the phone the day I called in to schedule the appointment. I thankfully was able to talk the receptionist/scheduler into allowing me to pay 1/2 the fee at the time of scheduling the appointment then paid the remaining balance the day my daughter had her Cavity Filled upon arriving for the appointment. When I had to schedule my daughters 2nd Cavity Filling appointment I HAD to pay the FULL amount for the Cavity Filling in order to secure an appointment slot for my daughter. I calmly spoke with the Office Manager and she explained to me that it's the Office Policy to pay upon making the appointment (even though the first available appointment date was two months out.) I called several Pediatric Dental offices in the Tampa Bay area and inquired about their policies in order to schedule Cavity Filling appointments and every office I called required payment DAY OF Appointment! I did proceed with scheduling, paying (thank goodness I had the funds available) and having Dr. Tierney Pettinato take care of my daughter's 2nd Cavity. After the Doctor was done taking care of my daughter's Cavity I asked to please speak with the Doctor in private. I explained to her that I didn't feel it was fair that FULL payment for Cavity Filling was required just to schedule an appointment for your child. Unfortunately Dr. Tierney Pettinato was passive aggressive and a bit disrespectful when I expressed my concern. She firmly stated that office policy is set this way for a reason. I truly feel bad for those parents who may not have the funds up front just to get their child on the schedule for a Cavity Filling. Why does this office currently operate this way if NO other Pediatric Dental offices or even regular Dental offices in the area require this??? read more

I have been going to Dr Pettinato office for about 10years. I have 4 children and they always complain about pain with there teeth and gums after every cleaning. I notice they changed the staff quite a bit in the last 3years. The last couple of years the Dr has expanded and the value of patients has increased they just don't have the staff the keep up I waited for about 30 mins and a couple of times and the Dr exams are so fast. To be honest, F Pettinato (the father) was fabulous with my child last year. My son had more than the usual dental needs and was treated with "kid gloves" for sure. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same when it comes to his daughter, Tierney. Her unprofessional care speaks volumes. I have never dealt with such an unprofessional provider in my 20 years of being a RN. I got a bad vibe at our 1st visit with her and it just escalated from there. Her bedside discussions are off topic and about herself,,,she made my teenage daughter very uncomfortable. She talks down to people and dramatizes situation instilling fear in both the children and parents alike...making them feel that things are far worse than they truly are, After being left inappropriate messages (that I still have) she discharged them from care in the middle of antibiotic treatment for my 7 year old and with a dental emergency. I am Christian woman and was speechless, She sent papers that she would continue to treat them for emergency care for 30 days...but when I called to request the appointment, we were hung up on. It is unfortunate that when a provider is uncomfortable with being asked an honest professional opinion regarding a child's dental problems & the possible correlation to other medical problems (that are not even diagnosed/ in a speculative nature)...that they just can't say they do not know and refer them to someone else. This dr had clearly never heard of the inquired medical condition and freaked out. I have never heard a dr say "I need a list of whatever your child has had, has now...and possibly may have in the FUTURE." Seriously? Can we predict the future? As a nurse & mom, I thoroughly completed the health & history form (twice for her). My son has no diagnosis, no active specialists and I asked a question at the request of my pediatrician. I'm not sure how she can put her head down at night. God forbid my child does have the inquired of condition & need chemo treatment in the future. She left him high and dry and cancelled our appt in the last few weeks of our plan year causing us to loose hundreds of dollars in available benefits. His dental needs will now cost more than the allowable going forward. We will now struggle to gain the records and x-rays to go to another dentist, as it has already become an issue. Thank goodness he didn't choke on the metal spacer that fell off while he was sleeping as well, I'm blessed he is okay and that we have fallen into the hands of a professional dentist. We had only switched from our pedi dentist of 21 years as they were no longer in network and the high cost of dental needs. Please don't make the same mistake we did, your child is worth more! I will pray for her & the position she has to care for children and families. read more
