This place was the closest option and was even walkable from our hotel, which made it super convenient. I originally wanted to rent a regular bike without any power assistance, but apparently my only option was an electric bike. I was definitely uncomfortable at first since it was my first time riding one, but after a little while I got the hang of it and honestly would recommend giving it a chance. The pedal assist ended up making the rides a lot more enjoyable, especially in the heat. We ended up riding close to 30 miles over two days and got to see so much more of the island than we would have if we had just driven everywhere. We were told the bikes could even glide across the sandy beach if we wanted to try that, but the sun was just too intense for us to attempt it. We rented the bikes for 24 hours, and the total came out to over $100. The bikes themselves had a range of around 50 miles, which was more than enough for exploring. The owner still personally runs the business, and he was incredibly pleasant and sweet. I always love supporting small businesses, especially ones that make your vacation experience even better.

Finding an available Mountain Bike proved to be harder than expected on an Island with so many rental bikes. Hilton Head Outfitters came through for us in a jam. We went to their location to choose the bike and take it to our Beach House in Sea Pines. Since we had a two week rental they picked the bike up from our address after we headed home. The staff at Outfitters was amazing. They showed us all the options and fit the bike to the person needing a mountain bike. The bike lock was provided with the rental. Outfitters building is beautiful and impressive. You can rent kayaks or canoes right off their back porch in a lagoon. We will return.

Was uncomfortable until we stopped at the Avocado Bike Shop and they fixed it. After 13 miles my battery died and had to ride 3.5 miles back to the shop with a heavy dead bike. They are supposed to go 30-35 miles... I turned it in as my friends continued with their ride for 2 more hours. Owner insisted on a full refund. Again, super nice people! Andrew was able to give the bike an inspection that day and clear the bike of visible and performance damage... he was very knowledgeable , understanding of my duress, and turned the bike around in a very timely fashion for a shop that obviously is busy...I'll be back next year to rent as we will fly the 700 miles....

They have Beach Cruisers in three sizes. They also rent the pull behind trailers for toddlers. If there is an issue with a bike they will come fix it or replace the bike with a different one within a day or two. All arrangements can be made over the phone. Ask for a group discount. Bikes are dropped off at your vacation address the day you arrive and picked up after you leave the Island.

I had a really disappointing experience with Island Cruisers. When I received the bike, both tires…read morewere very low on air, making the bike unrideable. I called the company. No one answered and I was sent to voicemail. I left a message and did not receive a response. I loaded the bike into the car and went to Hilton Head Outfitters, where they kindly inflated both tires for me. I then went out for a bike ride. About a mile and a half out, I heard a loud springing sound from the rear of the bike, like the fender had fallen off. When I pulled over, I discovered the back tire was completely flat. The bike was unrideable and I had to walk it back to the Palmetto Dunes General Store, where I locked it up and walked the rest of the way back to my condo. I spoke to a woman at Island Cruisers the following morning. Instead of apologizing for my experience and offering to make it right, she told me the bike was in good condition when it was dropped and that I must've ridden over something, an interesting response given that I had not ridden the bike at the time I discovered the flat tires. She claimed the photograph of the bike identifying where it was located in the garage proved the tires weren't flat. Of course, there was no one sitting on the bike or squeezing the tires at the time the photo was taken so this claim is utter nonsense. The only positive in the entire experience is that they did issue a full refund. However, that was a small consolation. That they would blame the customer instead of considering the possibility that the crew dropped off the bike without thoroughly checking it out speaks volumes.
