    Lunch special fish hoagie
    Aaron G.

Good food cooked to order. The fish hoagie was a great size for the lunch price. The hush puppies were small but had great flavor

Will only be ordering during lunch specials cause the price jump is +5 more now 6/10

Omg this place is wild!!! In a good way lol... their burgers are so delicious and juicy that I was trying to eat slow but, I just couldn't wait to take another bite. I ordered a catfish filet on the side... it was fried hard and seasoned so well. It literally melt in my mouth. The only thing I didn't care for was the sweet tea. It tasted more like an Arnold Palmer...I'm not a lemonade fan. Other than that, everything was great even the service! I would go every other day if I lived closer!!!

    Turkey wing/cornbread dressing/ yams

So I ordered thru the drive thru on a Sunday which I see is a no no!! 35 min... I ordered the (Soulfood Sunday) turkey wings and dressing and yams with strawberry cake $23 total...let just say I won't ever do that again.. the turkey wings look like the was going to be good they were sooooooooo salty I couldn't hardly eat it.... Next the dressing drrrryyyy salty and small.. last was the yams not sweet at all.. overall.. I give it a negative 2.. I believe the turkey wings look would have been good but someone was heavy handed on the salt.. it made my head hurt.. lawd.. oh I forgot to mention the cornbread dry as well.. cake was good .

This place is amazing!! The service is great: they have a drive thru which is pretty cool. I ordered the whole fried catfish with corn fritters!! My whole entree was GREAT!! I highly recommend this place. The fish was very crispy and had a very nice seasoning to it that wasn't salty. The corn fritters were very crispy and sweet. I also got the strawberry cake and it was GOOD!!! Very moist and not a lot of frosting. This place is actually great. Probably the best in mesquite. I would go here again!

Seems like same place, same food food but different owners and much better customer service!!!!!! I ordered pork chop plate...cooked to perfection and a pork chop and catfish nugget plate, equally cooked to perfection! Absolute tasty food when you are too tired or lazy to cook but it tastes like you made it yourself!

Ok, haven't been here since it was called Howard's and that was 3 years ago. So, I decided to give this place a try today. I searched for a menu online and could not locate one. I called them up and a nice lady offered to text me a menu. Now that's customer service. After I received the menu, I decided to try the catfish nuggets lunch special, which was 6.99. I have a picture and as you can tell you get a lot for your money. Not only do you get a hefty serving of nuggets, you get fries, peppers and Texas toast. The catfish was fried perfectly and had a lovely golden color. The fries were nothing special but still tasted good. The Texas toast was well buttered and tasted good. I also ordered 2 pork chop baskets. Now, whenever i order chops, I get scared that they will be small and dry. These chops were thick cut and well seasoned. I was very impressed with the size. The chops were cooked perfectly and tasted good. Just like the nugget basket, you get fries, peppers and Texas toast with your chops. The chop basket was 10.99 which wasn't bad for 2 THICK chops and all the fixings. Finally, I ordered a slice if lemon cake and chocolate. So far, I have already tried the lemon and it was fresh, very moist and had a nice lemon flavor. Apparently, they get their sweets from a company called Latham Bakery. All in all, it was a pleasant experience. I will definitely be back now that this place is under new management, has great food and customer service.

Six boudin balls and banana pudding. Starting with the dish that was the least appetizing, the garlic toast/ bread had no garlic spell or taste just butter taste. 2nd least favorite is the expensive banana pudding . I have had much better banana pudding with no bananas from another restaurant. I would have rather had more than 5 mini vanilla wafers instead of the cool whip topping . $7.99 for that never again . The French Quarter dish was dropped off it was received warm from the doordash dasher . Everything was seasoned well , the shrimp etoufee is a tad bit spicy but it isn't overwhelming. I wish they provided at least two catfish fillets instead of just one . . I didn't want any hushpuppies but there is no choice to decline them. Boudin balls are good. I am from Louisiana been living in Dallas-Fort Worth over 24 years now . I enjoy well cooked cajun meals . Portions large enough for leftovers

We also ordered a slice of Red Velvet Pound Cake. Every dish we ordered was delicious and flavorful. The wings were crispy and very flavorful. The Oxtail Soul Bowl was packed and loaded on top of a bed of corn bread and it came with a huge piece of corn bread on the side. The red velvet pound cake was something different, but good too. Just very sweet especially drinking their half gallon "Mystery" juice which was good, but also pretty diabetes sweet. I tried my best to get the mystery ingredients from one of the cashiers, but she held strong lol. Overall, it is a pretty expensive type of food, but the portions is pretty huge and fulfilling as well so it balances out. The staff were super friendly and the food didn't take too long to come out. They were under renovation so they only did takeout orders which was a bummer. Parking lot is a bit small, but you'll be fine.

I expected to be able to sit down inside with my family and was pretty disappointed that the entire sitting area was blocked off and they're only allowing to go and take out orders. I waited about 35 minutes for two plates of food and spent $71 which I thought was way toooo pricey for just two plates. The soulful bowl with brisket was okay, the brisket wasn't super flavorful, the mac & cheese was a bit too salty and I had high hopes for the yams but they were pretty dry. The catfish and shrimp plate was also below expectations as the shrimp batter was falling off (not fried long enough) and the catfish was a bit fishy. Also I had to beg for cocktail and tartar sauce and got a little attitude when I asked for them. All around not the best experience and don't think I'll be making it back.

The smoke from the kitchen basically consumed the dining area and was very irritating. It eventually dissipated after a while, but I wouldn't recommend infants in this environment. After our party was seated, it took 15-20 min before our waiter greeted us and provided water; that was a bit annoying. After we got our orders in, things were smooth sailing from there. We were a large party and our waiter did a pretty good job at managing us and all of our requests. Food: they do not waste time bringing the food out. Most of our orders came out within 10 minutes! I ordered the Short Rib (unfortunately not pictured). It was hot, tender, and seasoned well....very good. It came on a bed of rice and some type of sauce. I was not a fan of either. The rice seemed uncooked and the sauce was too much and very liquid. It drowned the rice and practically made it soupy. I would have been fine with just the short rib. I also ordered a side of black eyed peas... also not a fan. It was undercooked and I didn't love whatever seasoning was used to prepare it. Other items I tried: Fries, Cornbread, Yams, and Soul Rolls. These were all tasty, specifically the soul roll. It came out crispy, hot, and stuff proportionately. I could take every bit of what was inside. It's definitely a must try.

The service was excellent, the smoky dry ice upon arrival was a hit along with the warm towels to clean our hands. The chef even walked around greeting guests. The menu prices could be adjusted downward but it was a nice experience. I'd recommend if you're in the mood for soul food. The sweet potato cornbread was the best!
