They supported my partner and I though the entire process as well during his last appointments. Our Bandit was in great hands throughout all of his appointments at this clinic. They answered all questions we had and made caring for our boy easy. After he left us the clinic took nose and paw prints for us, chose a beautiful box for his ashes and mailed us a stone with his name engraved, all from the kindness of their hearts. The first time I came to this clinic my dog had collapsed and they immediately took her back to check on her. Within 5 minutes the clinician came back and said we need to euthanize with zero explanation as to why. It wasn't until they were already drawing the euthanasia into the needles that they explained there were tumors in her stomach and they had preformed an ultrasound to find them. She has had no history of this but I could see she was suffering so I agreed. When I was saying goodbye to my dog I've had since I was 10 years old they kept coming in asking if I was done yet. I was given 10 minutes to say goodbye to my dog of over a decade. They still charged the emergency visit fee on top of the cremation fee. I was out $700 and my best friend. There was no one else in the lobby waiting and they were still rushing me out. No sympathy to my situation, you'd think vets would be more compassionate to pet parents but no. The only reason i'm giving the two stars is because on another occasion, I needed to get my cat dewormed and the woman on the phone encouraged me to try a cheaper over the counter medication at a local pet store first, before paying for an appointment at their clinic. read more

No one wants to have an emergency vet visit while traveling. But if you do, this is the place to come. They fit us in and didn't make us wait very long. Yes, there is an up-charge for emergencies. Overall I found the charges reasonable. They obviously have a thriving practice with happy repeat customers. Dr Burt was great (listened, approachable, relaxed) and made appropriate recommendations. I wish reviewers would put the name of the veterinarian that they had good experiences with or bad because otherwise the review is somewhat useless. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW OF THE WHOLE CLINIC. The office staff have been friendly, efficient and patient. If i can get to see a different veterinarian there I'll review them here. I do not recommend dr. Reynolds (not sure i spelled that correctly) who : 1. instead of responding to patient's concerns too often references herself . 2 Also even withholds tests without explaination other than inplying your old dog doesn't have much time when in fact she is walking just fine after i upped her thyroid medication after I , not a veterinarian found on line that hind end weakness could be from too low a thyroid dosage and within weeks he went from not walking more than 15 min with some nail dragging to walking a hAlf hour no problem and wants to walk longer and has a great appetite and even climbs the ramp to the bed at night and goes down it by him self and has no accidents. 3. Dr. Reynolds didn't ask enough question to evaluate our dog AND our dog even looks young, so many people say so including prior veterinarian. read more

I have always had a positive experience with the staff and doctors. They have done their best to fit me in as soon as possible when I've had issues come up with my senior dog. Today my dog was seen by Dr. Higgins and she was so thorough and explained things to me in a way that was easy to understand. Super helpful and lovely. read more

Took my dog there for potential cherry eye. I had called around to many vets just to get an appointment since no one had any availability. Sunny Brae agreed to see him for their $260 emergency visit fee. I was deciding between staying local and going to Santa Rosa and decided to stay local because someone at the vet during one of many phone calls told me that they could ultimately perform the surgery on him. When I saw the vet (who was absolutely wonderful and very caretaking) told me that they did not do that procedure, I voiced my concern that I would have gone south to VCA in Santa Rosa had I not been told they could do the procedure. The visit turned out to be a waste of $260.00. When I went to the front counter for checkout, they called my dogs name and I responded that "yes I wanted to speak with someone about my charges. The young woman immediately responded (since the vet had apparently already talked to her) that she told me twice on the phone that they do not do that procedure and noted it in the file. I'm a smart person but was a little frazzled this morning. That said, pretty darn sure someone at the clinic told me they had never sent a dog somewhere else for that procedure. I responded that I had called a total of three times asking questions, and asked if she answered all three of my calls to which she replied "no". Her entire demeanor was about proving she was right. There was no problem solving, no compassion, just she was right and I was wrong. I would think someone who works at a vet would be a little more customer service capable instead of so snippy out of the gate. Well I hope your manager gives you a great review for always being right, because I will never be back as a customer and will tell everyone I know with animals about my experience. Dr Reynolds dental surgery for my 14 year old 50 lb pup went very well, did just what was needed nothing more or less, and was half the price i was quoted by Fortuna/Ferndale veterinarian. I've had 7 surgeries for dogs over some decades so i speak from some experience. My rating is for surgery only and also price no other care except what i write here. Also Dr. Reynolds immediately prescribed an antibiotic and took my pup of the hard on the liver pain meds the Fortuna/Ferndale had prescribed, knowing full well the age and elevated liver enzymes of my pup and zero antibiotics. I don't use antibiotics whenever possible and in this case they were absolutely needed for a gum abscess that grew fast. Dr. Reynolds saved my old pup's life. There was a long wait for surgery AND they were patient when i called when concerned meanwhile. I think there were no doubt more urgent cases and after the antibiotics my pup was already much better. read more

Been taking all of our animals here for almost 30 years. Currently we just have one kitty we bring in for his annual exam and vaccinations. Today was the exam with Dr. Higgins. The clinic has things very streamlined during the pandemic. You park in a numbered spot, go inside to check in and a vet tech comes out to get your animal. After the exam Dr.Higgins called my cell to give me a full recap of my cat's exam and ask if I had any questions. Then I went inside to pay and got my baby back. Sunny Brae Animal Clinic has been very helpful in good and bad times. I recently had to let one of my sweet boys cross the Rainbow Bridge. As difficult as it was, as always, they were there for me. The staff that assisted me was very helpful, Laura who is always kind, caring, and sensitive, as well as the vet tech Mariah also was very attentive and sensitive to my loss. I have used Dr. Higgins many times over the years and recommend her highly, however, all of the doctors are knowledgeable and professional, so you really can't go wrong with any of them. read more

My 14 year old kitty, Muphasa, became extremely sick suddenly. I called and was able to get him in immediately...the staff was waiting for us as I rushed into the office. He was immediately seen by Dr. Reynolds. I can say with the utmost honesty, that she and her team saved his life. He was diagnosed with diabetes and an enlarged heart and was in total crisis. She was very understanding and explained all the options very clearly while I sobbed and loved on my cat. After helping me understand what owning a diabetic cat would mean, she walked me through how to give injections, food samples and a list of budget friendly diabetic cat food. This was over a month ago. Since then, she has emailed me weekly to check in and the support staff have been so kind and supportive. I have never felt more supported or my cat more loved. read more

Whew! I'm not the only one who has been treated with disrespect by the SBAC front desk staff. When I took my dog in for emergency surgery - they were fantastic! They saw my dog right away, and the vet did an absolutely WONDERFUL job with the surgery. She saved my dog's life. Same thing when I had another dog neutered at SBAC. Fantastic job, and excellent results. The doctors in both cases called regularly to see if my pups were OK. So - hey - Sunnybrae. I recommend that you have regular staff meetings Re: Public Relations. This is primarily in regard to your outgoing recorded message, phone manners, and front desk staff's attitude. Here's what's happened to me: The recorded message is very off-putting. It's about how they won't accept new customers - there's no cheerful greeting. No encouragement to check back later. The phone rings and rings and no one picks up. I have had to interrupt being told that I will be put on hold, and if the clock ticks 5, before they get to me, well, that's too bad! One time, I was trying to cancel an appointment- doing them a favor! So I took approx 1 minute to cancel appt. - after interrupting the "you're a naughty girl" talk. It's like the employees who interface with the public are protecting the docs behind closed doors from having too many patients. You know what they say- "Be careful what you wish for..." read more

Prepare to wait for a long time. Standing in line to check in takes 10-20 minutes. Then waiting for a technician can take another 10-40 minutes for a simple vaccination. I've been here 4 times to vaccine multiple pets since the pandemic and I've spent up to 50 minutes waiting with my poor kitty in the car. They should book less appointments a day because they clearly can't handle what they're doing. read more

I've been taking my dog here for the last four years and have never had anything but a great experience! My dog actually just had her vaccinations there the other day; they have a discount clinic on Saturdays, we got all four vaccinations, a prescription for her allergies, and an exam for $100. Awesome The vet was so sweet, as were the techs. My dog is pretty friendly towards everyone, but she was even wagging her tail at the tech after she got her shots. My baby Husky mix (Paris) got sick, and I called Fortuna, Eureka, and Arcata área clinics to get her an appointment to see the Vet. Sunny Brae was the only clinic that agreed to see Paris the same day. I drove an hour to take Paris to Arcata to see the Vet, we were immediately brought in, and París was seen by the Vet (Dr. Higgins) within 20 mins. Paris was put on an I.V. due to dehydration, and she was administered antibiotics via I.V. Overall, I am very thankful that Sunny Brae accepted us as a walk-in without an appointment. I usually don't write reviews, but I was so disappointed I had to. I called this clinic several times and their phone line was busy. When they finally picked up, I was placed on hold for 10 mins. The woman staff member was incredibly condescending, unprofessional, and rude. What are you like an immature teenager? Do you even want to work there? My Goodness, I just moved here 5 months ago and my cat has Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). I notice that lately he has a runny and stuffy nose with scabs that looked like skin cancer on nose as well. They only want to take him in as an emergency or urgent care for $125!! They only care about taking your money, no compassion for animals! read more

Callous. By definition callous means hardened and feeling no sympathy. It's an indifference to suffering. I've seen callousness throughout my years as a firefighter, paramedic and captain. Thankfully it's not common but it exists and easy to spot when you have spent your life helping others in their worst times of need. Callousness is contagious. It spreads unchecked when the leaders are the example. I took my dog to Sunny Brae because she was short of breath. We had just spent the night at an RV park close by. My dog had a rough night but was doing better when I took her to this clinic. She would be dead within about 2 hours. Why? I don't know!! I was never offered an explanation. In fact, the only thing offered was... "your dog collapsed and we are doing CPR. Would you like us to continue?" I never heard a word from the doctor. Today I received Twinky's cremated remains. I waited for her to arrive before I told this story. I've never spoken to the manager because she wouldn't take my call. Understand that we've had zero contact!! Its not as though we had a conversation that ended badly. We've never spoken. My dog died in her clinic without an explanation and she wouldn't take my call knowing that my dog was sitting in a box in her office waiting to be shipped. I asked the receptionist to please have the manager call me before another long weekend of not knowing. She never called. This is for the doctor: You had me fooled. You asked all the right questions. Remember, I've been doing assessments for over 20 years. You were spot on until I explained that I was traveling in an RV far away from home. I asked you "please don't kill me with the bill." I didn't realize we were negotiating with my dog's life. That was never even a thought!! Had it been, I would have said " Do whatever you have to do. Just don't kill my dog." I will forever regret not saying that. Waiting to make final arrangements, I had a few minutes to look around and watch the staff do their business. I was mourning and in shock but then I took a closer look around. I saw a callous crew. Twinky's death now made tragic sense. To the owners of Sunny Rae: I'm retired now. When you're ready to clean house at this facility and reinstall compassion, positivity and a commitment to do the right thing for all of your clients... call me. Your manager and doctor need to be relieved of their duties. I will absolutely clean house. I specialize in difficult crews. I don't tolerate bullies of callousness. I would actually come out of retirement and do this for free!! The only thing in return I'd ask is for an apology for allowing this to happen. read more

We had almost lost hope when Dr Haley Williams did research and asked her colleges the best thing to do in the situation. She saved my cats life. She genuinely cares for animals. These are extremely uncaring people. You really don't find many of those in veterinary medicine. You usually find people who are pet owners themselves and deeply sympathetic to the concerns of their patients. I ran out of Apoquel, a medication I give my white lab Missy for severe skin allergies, over the course of our family vacation in Shelter Cove. I had our home vet call in a refill to the local Rite Aid but come close of business it turned out Rite Aid didn't actually have Apoquel. So our last resort was Sunny Brae, open until 10pm. When our vet tried to call in the RX there, she was told that Sunny Brae didn't fill RX from other vets. When we came in person an hour later, we were told again that they wouldn't fill an RX from another vet. The receptionist said that we would have to pay a $150 emergency exam fee in order for our lab to be seen and for a prescription to be issued. We reluctantly agreed. What other choice did we have? Finally the receptionist at Sunny Brae conferenced with a doctor in the hallway behind her and then returned to the front desk to inform us that because Missy would be a first-time and one-time patient, Sunny Brae would not dispense any of its supply of Apoquel for our dog. It is truly depressing to discover unfeeling uncaring people, ones who turn away people and animals in need. Even those willing to pay the $150 shakedown fee. Clearly our situation of needing an RX refill while on vacation did not fit their profit model. In short, these people may technically offer veterinary treatment but they sure as hell don't offer care. In the Eureka area, there is no other option for after-hours emergency care. If it's an emergency, take your chances at Sunny Brae. If you can drive elsewhere after-hours or wait until regular office hours, I highly recommend taking your animal anywhere but here. This place has all the compassion and professionalism of a Los Angeles DMV. Your pet and you deserve better. read more

Can't say enough good things about SBAC! We've been taking our animals here since I was a child and now that I have a dog of my own I wouldn't take her anywhere else. Everyone there is very friendly and Dr. Burden was wonderful with my basset hound, Tulip. She understood that I'm on a fixed income now so she really took the time to go over my options in regards to which vaccines are truly necessary given Tulip's activities and where she travels. I'm just so thankful for everyone there, they clearly care about our animals and I trust them completely to do what's best for my girl. read more

They do not care about your animals and all they care about is the money. I took little dog into Sunny Brae Animal Clinic in Arcata, CA for emergency visit. I had to take my little dog in the day before Easter because he was having a hard time breathing. I told him what the problem was. Had to wait in my truck until they came out and got him to have check out. And they call me and told me they need to take more x-rays and I told him he just had x-ray taken at are regular vet. The vet that saw him her name is Haley Williams DVM. I had to have them do more x-ray on my dog. After Haley Williams DVM took the x-ray she finally call me and told me what the problem was and said that he need to be put on lasix to help him with just one problem and Haley Williams DVM, told me he had another problem and Haley Williams DVM was not concern about the other problem. Before I brought him home Haley Williams DVM, said she needed to gave him a shot of lasix and the next day I started him on the medication. Then Easter Sunday he did not want to eat or drink water. I had to give him water with a syringe to make sure it he got water. I had to carry my dog outside because he got so weak that he could not get down go out to the bathroom and by evening on Easter Sunday night about 11:30pm my little passed away. I believe if Haley Williams DVM address the second problem my little dog would still be here. I would not take my another dog to them. I very terrible experience with Sunny Brae Animal Clinic and the vet Haley Williams DVM.
