Came in around 11am on a Saturday, and after a short wait the friendly optician helped me pick out a great pair of new frames & lenses. Instead of my having to choose between a multitude of styles & designers, she narrowed the selection process by picking out a few styles that perfectly fit my face, making it just a question of personal taste. This is exactly what I ask for in an optician: have plenty of great options, but take the hard part out of the equation. As for the lenses, I was told that the digital lenses would be just as thin as the thinnest high index lenses, plus would provide for even sharper vision. Please note: if you search on Yelp for VSP Providers, the resulting businesses are NOT necessarily in network VSP providers. We went to another highly-rated optician prior to coming to mark Weintraub, and the cost of for comparable lenses was almost twice as much. I came to Dr. Weintraub's office after being recommended by a few of my colleagues, who heard about my multiple poor experiences at another Santa Monica optometrist. I desperately needed a pair of glasses, since my contacts were not working at all for me. I already had a valid prescription so have to wait until January 2013 to update mine. Thus, this review isn't for Dr. Weintraub (though I'll update once I see him next January) but his wonderful staff, particularly Mara. I came in without notice, and Mara helped me find a suitable pair of frames. The glasses here are generally higher-end, so expect to pay a couple of hundred dollars, even if you have insurance. I will say, though, that their selection is well curated and although it's fairly small, there's a few options for every face type and style preference. Within a half hour, I had a pair of frames that I was happy about selected and ordered. I explained that my eyes were uncomfortable due to my contact lens saga, and she said that she'd try to expedite the order, though gave a time frame of about 10 business days. I had my glasses in 4 business days. They are comfortable, flattering, and best of all - I can see clearly now! The whole process here was painless, and Mara (and the few others that I interacted with) were pleasant and helpful. My only wish was that I chose this optometrist's office first! read more

I finally had the chance to go to Sunny Optometry after Dr. Weintraub retired. I'm delighted to know the practice is just as excellent under Dr. Sun's care. Dr. Sun is very thorough and her exam is complete with a full explanation of vision and eye status. The newly remodeled office is pristine and the frames available are very stylish and well selected. I was extemely happy with Dr Weintraub and his office team. They are very caring and extremely helpful. Dr Weintraub checked my eye thoroughly and explained everythin in great detail. I was his last patient for the day but his team stayed in and worked with me until I felt great with the eyeglass frame I picked. Parking can be a problem but there is a big parking structure where you can park or you may be lucky to find a parking metetr on 4th street. read more

While my son was on a school trip in CA, he experienced an issue with his eyes. When Sunny Optometry was contacted, they went out of their way to get him in the office quickly. I am pretty sure he saw Dr Phan. Once my son was examined, she contacted me and explained his diagnosis. She even called the day after to check in on him. I have never written a review on Yelp. This is my first. The reason this is my first is because Dr. Weintraub blew me away! I recently needed desperately to see an eye Dr because my eyes were bothering me terribly on top of headaches. I went to see another eye Dr. I found on here that had an open appt. After that appt, I didn't feel good about the entire visit nor confident with the solution provided. I then found Dr. Weintraub on here and he managed to fit me in his schedule last minute today. He is freaking amazing! Completely diagnosed me right away and then spent over an hour with me. I asked about a million questions and he gave me answers verbally and with models so that I can fully understand everything I was curious about. They also have the most up to date technology to ensure all of his findings are as accurate as you can get (their office is near the Google offices after all :). He truly loves his profession and is more knowledgeable than I have ever seen before in an optometrist. The staff is incredibly nice and personable. The office is beautiful and right by the beach. This practice sets the bar for optometry. No idea if this review is going to get pulled because of my overwhelming positive feeling for this place, but he completely calmed me down about what might be wrong with my eyes and just rocks. His 30 years of experience definitely shines through. If you go to him and are not pleased, message me because I don't put my name behind many people, but he is one of the greats. read more

Sunny Optometry is a wonderful optometry office in Santa Monica. Doctors here are amazing! The staff there is super nice and always providing great service and attention to their customers. I haven't done an eye exam in a few years and the whole process at Sunny office was very easy and fun and painless. I picked out my glasses with the help of the staff. Dr. Weintraub has been my doctor for nearly 30 years! He's seen me through the fad of aqua colored contact lenses, all the way to (gulp) progressive lenses. I have a very strong prescription and my eyes are easily irritated,yet he has always managed to find contacts that I can wear comfortably (with his guidance). His staff is always professional, and their frame styles are super current. I never feel rushed, Dr. Weintraub is attentive, knowledgeable, patient, and very kind. I will never switch eye doctors - he's the only doctor that's worth the drive from Studio City to Santa Monica. read more

I have seen Dr. Sun for the first time a few months ago, and it was a very positive experience. I liked her energy, knowledge, and friendly demeanor. I recently came into the store to order glasses based on the prescription from Dr. Sun. The interaction was pleasant, but my only issue is the need for a reservation to purchase glasses. Mark retired and a new owner is treating his clients. She does not take medicare, which when I called to make my appointment they said they did. They overcharged me. The Doctor was good, explained what she found, but that still does not mitigate the fact she does not want to honor the older clients. Will not be returning. read more

I wish I could give no stars. They charged me 85$ for an exam even though my insurance covered it. They charged me 190$ for a second prescription and attempted to inflate the bill with enhancements I didn't request, totalling 800$. I was told I would receive a receipt via email. I didn't receive one. When I called the office they said they were too busy. Do not go here. There are hundreds of others to choose from. read more

I have been seeing Dr. Mark Weintraub For about 5 years now. He has gotten my optic Prescription tweeted in ways no other Doctor has. He also thoroughly checks my optic health and well being. He constantly let's me know what's the latest and most beneficial for my vision and comfort. I have several pair of glasses and no one has ever gotten my lenses this exact on every pair as he and his lab has. We do every coating available as-well as transition to sunglasses. He and his staff are thorough, meticulous, kind and generous. Bring your most patient parking zen posture when you go. Because parking in this neighborhood is a challenge but totally doable. Dr. Weintraub provides excellent quality service. Dr. Weintraub's skills and experience discovered my pituitary tumor during my new patient visit. Turns out, I've had the tumor for at least five years which all the prior optometrists did not find due to outdated technology and lack of experience/care. Dr. Weintraub is very patient in performing a thorough exam and answering questions in detail. He will even extend his services by contacting the appropriate opthamologist, if needed, for consult. His office has current technology for more in depth examination of your eye for additional service costs. He is upfront w/the additional costs so you have the option to decline. Needless to say, I am no longer a new patient but have been going there since 10years ago. My wife, who used to work at Lenscrafters, is also a patient. Great optometrist with wonderful staff. I never miss my annual appointments, but he was the first person to catch something congenital going on with my eye.... Referred me to a retina specialist to get it checked out. Thankfully nothing more than observation needed, but the retina specialist asked me MANY questions as to how my optometrist caught this while I wasn't having any symptoms. Very impressive. Afterwards I've had some issues with the contacts I ordered and the staff has been amazing at helping me sort through a couple different lens to find the right ones. Great service, selection and even better staff. Four years ago I bought some nice Oliver Peoples frames which last week I stepped on and badly bent the left temple post assembly. Ugh I thought they were a goner. I called ahead and met with Jade who spent a few minutes working on them and fixed it! The glasses work again and my cost was zero! Outstanding! Plus, they take my weird DGA insurance and the office smells super good. I parked at one of those free Santa Monica public lots. Go during the weekday and you can find lots of parking. This is my first post on Yelp. I felt compelled to post because while our whole family has always received excellent treatment at Dr. Weintraub's practice, he truly topped himself today! The details aren't important, but suffice it to say that my daughter had a time-critical and complicated situation and Dr. Weintraub and his staff acted swiftly, helpfully, and fairly. What could have been a really rotten situation was effectively and quickly remedied. Here's what else you need to know: Dr. Weintraub is brilliant, patient, communicative, exceedingly professional yet totally down-to-earth, and as kind as can be to all of us! His staff is helpful and professional, friendly and accommodating, and they will always go the extra mile. The office and equipment is state-of-the-art (and I know since I have to have specialized testing done periodically). Their eyeglass selection is superb. Not cheap, but worth it. Park in one of the free lots in Santa Monica promenade area. If you wear glasses or contacts, or need any optometric care, I cannot recommend anyone more highly. He's just a great guy. read more
