My experience at Village Eyes Optometry ,specifically with an optician named Bernice was very disappointing. Backstory: I had recently purchased glasses from my glaucoma specialist's optical shop, as I have very precise visual needs and they work closely with him. When I tried my new computer glasses the next day, it was clear something was off. Because I work in Westwood and my specialist's office in Pasadena is only open Monday-Friday, my MD suggested I have the glasses checked on an auto-lensmeter to confirm whether the prescription was filled correctly, along with verifying the PD/OC, and base curve. He said this should take about 15-20 minutes. max. I called Village Eyes Optometry and spoke with a very kind man named Victor. I clearly explained what I needed and emphasized that I was not a patient there and may never be because my care is handled through my glaucoma specialist. Victor told me there would be no charge for checking the prescription plus the additional questions and invited me to come in the next day. When I arrived for my appointment, Victor was not there and I was told that Bernice would assist me. After I explained my needs, she immediately stated there would be a $100 charge for the exact service Victor had told me was complimentary. When I explained what Victor had said, she abruptly repeated that the charge would be $100 along with a long list of reasons why I had to pay for this since I was not a patient and only had Mecicare not vision insurance. She did provide a lensmeter reading which took less than 5 minutes of her time. The interaction felt very much like a bait-and-switch, especially given how clearly I had outlined my needs during the initial call with Victor. $100.00 out of pocket for 15-20 minutes of her time seemed pretty steep to me. I told Bernice I was going to share this experience on Yelp and Google to which she curtly told me she would refute everything I said. I can not speak to the quality of services Village Eyes Optometry provides, but I sure can speak to my experience with Bernice. Courtesy, going the extra mile and kindness cost nothing yet the lack of them can turn a simple interaction, that would have taken 15 -20 minutes, into a poor customer experience, as this one did. I then went to Westwood Eye Center and spoke with Dalia. After I explained the situation, she checked everything, provided the information my MD needed, and refused to accept any payment. That is what good customer service looks like. I will be highly recommending Westwood Eye Center to others and based on this experience, I cannot recommend Village Eyes Optometry. read more

When paying $600-700 a year for glasses at Village Eyes Optometry, I would hope all the optometry techs practice with patience and diligence. Saaba and the male tech are fantastic. Unfortunately this older middle-aged woman who worked on Thursday July 3, 2025 was not fantastic. Despite having an appointment for eye glass fitting from 12-1pm, they kept rushing me with the male tech and kept asking him if he wanted to go to lunch and despite my appointment time and booking, decided handling 4 customers at the same time was the move. Although I usually enjoy my Village Eyes visits, this tech ignored me for the majority of the time after she excused my tech, and treated me rudely for wanting my eyeglass frame adjusted correctly. Now I am writing this review because after making the trip all the way to the eye shop, I am realizing the frame is still crooked! The right side is still much more inward than the left side, and the middle aged female tech made very little effort to truly fix the frame. Now it's digging into my temples and disturbing my work. What a waste of time going to make an optometry frame fitting appointment and truly disrespectful of a longstanding customer. read more

Dr. Vogel is one of the most patient and accommodating optometrists I know and I've been to many in my 45 years on this planet. He will communicate with you over email, over the phone, and during your visit to address all your concerns and answer all your questions (I had many). He has a great bedside manner, he is humble, non-judgmental, and even has a great sense of humor which helps you feel comfortable. He is knowledgeable about dry eye, which is what I saw him for. Both his IPL and heat treatments improved my dry eye symptoms and made my vision more clear. He takes his time with your treatments and is thorough. He doesn't try to upsell you and he doesn't rush you. He is direct and sincere. He's a good doctor and a good human. His staff is excellent - also accommodating and friendly. Victor in the optical department is kind and has a great sense of humor. If you are looking for an optometrist or looking for dry eye treatment in the Los Angeles area, I think Dr. Vogel and Village Eyes Optometry ought to be at the top of your list. 5/5 stars for the doctor and 5/5 stars for the practice. read more

I am so glad that I find Village eye Optometry. I visited Dr. Weiss on July 16th. She and her assistants are wonderful. Prior to see the doctor, they did every possible test to make sure that I will get the right prescription. Dr. Donna Weiss is very knowledgeable, patient and nice. She gave me the right prescription. My daughter and son-in-law recommended Dr. Bahareh Golbahar, OD with Village Eyes Optometry (VEO) in Los Angeles since they were both extremely happy with her work and bedside manner. We called the VEO office and made appointments to see Dr. Golbahar and the receptionists, Christine and Felicia were very nice and friendly. They also e-mailed us the new patient's forms so we were able to fill them out in advance and this was a big help. The VEO accepts VSP insurance. My wife and I went to Village Eyes Optometry a few days ago and we both had an extremely great experience. The office is located in Westwood Village close to UCLA campus and it is very nice and clean and provides a good selection of frames to choose from. We first were seen by Dr. Golbahar's assistants for the preliminary exam and tests and they were extremely nice, friendly and courteous. Next, we saw Dr. Golbahar and we were both impressed with her. She was extremely nice, friendly, professional, courteous and with great bedside manner. Dr. Golbahar performed through eye examinations and spent sufficient time with each of us and explained our eyes conditions and test results. I was having a time with getting a contact lens prescription that worked for me after having retinal surgery about a year ago. Apparently, my vision needs are somewhat uncommon and challenging to fit with contact lenses, so my ophthalmologist from UCLA Stein Institute recommended Dr Donna Weiss at Village Eyes, due to her having an excellent history of fitting contact lenses in difficult cases. Dr Weiss has been fantastic. She took the time necessary to learn about my vision needs, came up with several contact lens options for me to try, and successfully fit me with contact lenses that allow me to see in my work environment and in life. Wearing glasses is an option again, instead of being the only solution. All the employees I've had interaction with are courteous, helpful, and professional. They carry large selection of spectacle frames, the waiting area is comfy, and the location is near coffee shops, restaurants, and a Whole Foods. The only thing not to love is sitting in traffic on my way from the valley. read more

I came last Friday for an urgent eye appointment because my left eye was really red, irritated and uncomfortable. My regular optometrist, Dr Golbahar, was not in. But Valerie was able to squeeze me in to see Dr Lorin Vogel. Diego and Michael promptly greeted me when I came in :) ! They really made me feel welcome by asking how I was doing and settled me in my examination room :) ! Dr Vogel was really awesome and diagnosed right away that I have iritis (inflammation of the iris). He instilled cycloplegic eye drops to help relax the muscles and soothe my left eye, and prescribed Pred Forte eye drops to help with the inflammation. I'm so grateful that Dr Vogel helped to troubleshoot my left eye issue so quickly!! Otherwise, I seriously could not have survived and gotten through the rest of my day and weekend :) ! I hadn't gotten my eyes checked in who knows how long... 10 years? 15 years? The reason I came here is because 1) I needed to get them checked and 2) I just got dental insurance through my new employer. I researched a number of different offices and stumbled upon Village Eyes Optometry based on proximity to work and ratings. Dr. Golbahar is the name that I saw numerous times. With that, I booked an appointment with her. Upon arriving, I was helped by two different female technicians. They were both great and explained the variety of tests that I was going to be taken through. Then, I was seen by Dr. Golbahar. Her bedside manner is flawless. She is extremely thorough, yet gentle at the same time. She explains everything extremely well. By the end of my appointment, I had 0 questions because she covered all her bases (and then some). I love Village Eyes! I don't live close at all anymore and will still make the drive because I love this office! When I was at UCLA I had a series of pink eye infections that escalated to something really nasty & freaky looking. I went to several doctors and could not find a solution until Village Eyes! They are great with eye infections and took care of me. I was better really quickly and they even called a few days after to check on me. After that, I now come to village eyes for all my check-ups! I've had several of the doctors here and they're all really awesome and thorough. Dr. Vogel helped me get to the bottom of my itchy computer eyes and offered a cheap, non-medicine solution. Once again, Dr. Lorin Vogel saved the day! I went in for my annual eye exam this Monday (10/16) and, in the course of the exam, Dr. Vogel noticed a small, almost imperceptible tear in my retina. From the exam room, he booked my appointment for the very next day to see the experts at the Retina-Vitreous Center. They confirmed the diagnosis and performed laser surgery that afternoon (yesterday). I can't thank Dr. Vogel enough for his diligence and attention to my care, which likely saved me from potential further complications including (God forbid) a detached retina. I came here about a month ago. I have an insurance, I paid $10 for the basic eye exam, which is fine. They then asked me if I wanted to try on a pair of contact lenses to see if I would like that more than wearing my regular glasses, I said yes. However they didn't mention until after I tried them on that it would be $167 just for trying on a pair of contact lenses. If they would've told me that before I tried them on that it would be $167 I would've said no. When I was about to pay the lady said "the total is $177" and I said "sorry, what? Why is it $177?" And she said "$10 for the test and $167 for trying on the contact lenses" and I said "oh wow, really $167 just for trying on lenses, in other places they even give you free samples" and she didn't even knew what to say. Their clinic is luxurious and equipped with the most up-to-date technology, all staff members are courteous, and most importantly both doctors take the TIME to listen, answer questions, and solve vision issues. My elderly mother wasted so much money seeing other optometrists and getting eye glass prescriptions that did not work for her complicated case. Went here for a routine eye exam, opted for the extra cornea topography and "mri" and dilation since I have not done an exam in years. Dr was very patient and thorough in looking for any issues and discussing options for me as my eyes hit the age where I am losing my close up vision. The only reason I'm giving two stars instead of one is because of Dr. Jon Vogel. He was simply fantastic and great! Unfortunately, I will not be coming back here for any follow up appointments. Upon first finding this clinic through my VSP insurance I was told that they were a preferred doctor and even had special perks, like 15% off my exam. With my benefits, I also receive $200 to use towards contact lens exams or contacts (which I can allot $60 towards the contact exam). I scheduled an appointment for this morning and arrived early. Everything was great until I went to pay; I was met with a $124 bill. I was confused, but due to being in a rush I paid it with my HSA account. During a brief break at work I called my insurance company to inquire who confirmed I did, indeed, have money to use towards a contact lens exam, and that I should have also received 15% off as well. When I called in to resolve this I spoke with Helen. From the first moment she answered the phone she seemed rushed and uninterested in my phone call. I explained that I must've been overcharged because I have benefits to use towards my contacts (previously Helen has told me my insurance had already been billed, which wasn't the case). She went on to put me on hold and came back to confirm this, but then started to explain how benefits work (as a medical receptionist myself, I'm well aware of how they work). Her tone was condescending and dismal at best. I informed her that I didn't appreciate not being given the option at check out to apply my insurance benefits, to which she simply laughed and brushed it off. The rest of this phone call just went downhill from there, and ended with me being told I was overcharged $75. This was money wrongfully taken from my HSA account that could've been used for other important medical bills. I am currently waiting to speak to Christine who appears to be the office manager. I depend on my keen eyesight. If it weren't for Dr. Vogel and his understanding staff, I don't think I would be as active. Now i am always going to the beach, swimming, and going on long dusty hikes free of worry. My contacts used to fall out all the time... on a dry day, on long walks, even at sad movies. After a visit with the fabulous eye doctor, Dr. Vogel, a new better fitting contact was recommended and everything is so much better! Years of going to other optometrists and no one ever thought to ask about the fit as thoroughly as Dr Vogel. He is a very caring individual and I can't enough say how pleased I am now that I am seeing things so clearly now. They even have the latest technology- cool imaging computers and the eye pressure pen instead of the "puff of air" machine.
