During this pandemic time, you had to be sure that places you are going have a good hygiene practice. And Sunny's has done an excellent job. Hair cut is by appointment only. The store is locked and Penny will open the door for you so you don't have to touch the handle. The chair is sanitized for every client - including the hair wash area. Your cover is one-time use per person. And you have to have mask on at all time during the hair cut (you use your hand to hold the mask when she trims around the ear). As for hair cut itself, I have been coming to this place every few months. And I have never been disappointed. She even remembers my preference which is a surprise given how infrequent I have a hair cut. And it's inexpensive. She was upfront that she has to increase the price by a dollar give the sanitation work she has to do. I could (and did) give her extra $10 and it's still cheaper than other places. read more

Came for a one-inch trim and some hair thinning to reduce volume. I have very long hair and I was in and out of the chair in under 10 mins. The stylist rushed through the process (there was no one after me) and she used an electric men's razor to trim my hair. I have layered hair so I wanted the layers to be preserved, but this trimming technique that the stylish used made my layers look so blunt and harsh. It didn't look great at all. I am visiting from out of town and badly needed a haircut. Found Sunny's o. Yelp, and had my haircut and blow dried by Penny. The whole experience was wonderful! Penny is such a sweet lady, the shop is light-filled, neat and very clean, this haircut was as good a haircut as I've ever had. I had short layered hair, and if I get a really really good cut, my hair can just air dry and it looks good. This was a terrific haircut. And the prices are so reasonable. Plenty of free parking. I take my client here to get her hair cut and they are fantastic! They have a parking lot and the location is wheelchair friendly. The staff also help me to get my client in and out of the car, which makes things 100 times easier for me :) Davi does a fabulous job of cutting her hair and styling it nicely. She does such a great job, that I'm thinking about coming here too. Lots of great choices of magazines to read, comfy seats, and they give you tea while you are there. We've always come with an appointment, but I here you can just show up as a walk-in as well. Great location, on Aurora, right across from the Oak Tree Cinemas. The price is awesome as well. I love this place! It's run by 3 asian ladies who are always eager to strike a conversation with you and make you feel at home. I've been getting my hair cut there for about 5 years now (by Davi) and I love my hair every time. They listen to what you want for your hair and throw suggestions here and there but will never pressure/force you to get a particular style. I just love this place (even over those too high-maintenance places like Seven). I've gotten my long layered Hair cut here a few times & very pleased with both level of expertise (point cut, checking that layers blend, going back to thin out nape area & bangs etc) & VERY REASONABLE PRICES. If my hair is clean I'm happy to have Davy or Penny cut & style for $20. That's right. Can't say it's that price for all cuts but. .WOW WOW WOW. I recently re-discovered this place. I was a customer at their old location in Northgate for a couple of years, and every time, I received a good haircut, for a reasonable price, done with a smile. But last summer I left Seattle for work, so I hadn't been here since then. I recently moved back up to North Seattle, and this evening, when I needed a haircut, Sunny's immediately came to mind. So I drove to their old location, and was a little disheartened to see that it was empty (and the entire building was fenced off, apparently for demolition). Thankfully, I found their new address on my phone, and I was able to make it there just in time before they closed. The new location is more spacious than the old one, but everything else is the same. It's very clean and well kept. There was one other customer when I arrived (and only one lady working), but I waited less than 5 minutes before being seated. My haircut was very nicely done, and the service was cheerful, just as I remembered. I'm glad that I found Sunny's again, and will definitely be coming here regularly again. read more

I don't leave reviews for businesses that often. It has to be a memorable experience, good or bad, for me to leave a review. Today I definitely had a memorable experience. Feeling adventurous I drove down 99 looking for a place to get my hair cut. I saw Sunny's sign and parked (bonus: free easy parking). Davy greeted me as she was cutting someones hair. It would be 10 minutes. The place is nice and clean, and it has a nice waiting area. Davy was really friendly and welcoming. She was very patient with me even after I changed my mind on the length that I wanted my hair cut. I was nervous going into a random place on 99 (for me it was random), but it felt warm and friendly in there and I was very comfortable. I also get a little nervous when somebody new cuts my hair, but she did a really good job and it was obvious that she knew what she was doing which put me at ease. She took her time and put a lot of care into cutting it exactly how I wanted. They also wash your hair for free. I would definitely recommend going here. They are really nice people, and they do an excellent job, and the prices are reasonable. read more

Eh, the stylist used a comb and trimmed the ends of my hair with an electric razor so there are a few strands that are longer on one side which I only notice when my hair is wet but it's still pretty annoying. This is the first time I've ever had a stylist use this technique. It seems a little sloppy . My hair didn't look terrible and all I asked for was a trim but she layered it and at least it felt more manageable. She also cut a chunk of hair too short to put in a ponytail I'm guessing on purpose. Suffice to say I'm not going back there are better salons in the area. read more

They were awesome! Fit me in the same day and I was walking out the door with a sassy long layered cut that was exactly what I asked for. I've paid way more money for cuts in the past that I was not as thrilled with as the cut I got today at Sunny's. Best part? $30 for wash, cut and blow dry styled. I'll definitely be back! read more

This was my first hair salon experience since I've moved to Seattle and possibly was the most traumatizing one in my lifetime. My scalp was literally throbbing after I got my hair cut by Penny. She was super aggressive with my hair for some reason. I told her I wanted a trim and wanted to freshen up my layers, thought that was pretty simple to not mess up. I came in with a full head of healthy hair and came out with what looked like something a bunch of rats chewed on. I told her I had my ears pierced yet she ended up getting the comb stuck on my earring and snagging on it multiple times. It came to a point where my boyfriend and I had to tell her to to be a little more gentle yet she continued to be aggressive. We didn't have any problems with her before the cut and came in with positive expectations. I can confidently say I will never step foot in to that torture chamber again. read more

Worse bob cut ever. Stylist argued that she couldn't make my hair any smoother by blowing drying. I had to grab the hair dryer from her to finish off my hair and show her how it's done. Killing myself for paying and tipping for the haircut. They should have paid me since I had to go elsewhere to fix the haircut. read more

My hairstylist person retired a few months ago so am on the search for a new place. Sunny's is def NOT it. Regardless of the 5 star reviews, they couldn't even give me a standard fade. It looks like I have distinct layers on my head. The place was empty and I was only given about 15 minutes for a cut. I guess if you want a quick bad haircut in and out, this is your place. If you want someone who will take the time to give you a quality cut, Sunny's is not it. Who knows, maybe I just came on a bad day? But I won't be coming back to find out. read more

From their old location at Northgate to their new location on Aurora, I've been coming here for eyebrow/upper lip/under arm wax for at least 6-7 years now and I live in Mukilteo...which can be a long drive with Seattle's traffic nowadays..that tells you how much I LOVE THIS PLACE!! The 3 ladies who run this place are all super friendly and attentive. I always see Davi for my wax because I've been seeing her since my first appointment and she's simply THE BEST!! She is very skilled and makes the whole waxing experience painlessly pleasant. She does THE BEST eyebrow wax you can ever find! I can not imagine not having Davi to do my eye brows for me now. I talked my sister (who has absolutely 0 pain tolerance) into getting wax from Davi, she was surprised how easy it felt and she's now hooked! They take both appointments and Walk-Ins but appointments are recommended. That being said, though. I am the worst at making appointments (yes I feel very bad....Sorry Davi!), I always call Davi on the day of and sometimes only a couple hours ahead. But Davi always tries her very best to accommodate my needs and work with my schedule! I've had my eyebrow wax done by the other two ladies once or twice while Davi wasn't in and they are wonderful too!!!!! 5 stars well deserved and I will definitely keep coming to Sunny's for as long as I live in Seattle! read more

Just moved to Seattle and was skeptical about finding a new barber. Took a chance in Sunny's and ended up with a great haircut.

I have been going to Sunny's since shortly after they opened (some time in the mid 90's) at the Northgate location. Great haircuts, more importantly GREAT people. Penny rocks, well they all do! So-called progress is forcing them out of their current location. Lucky for us customers, they have found a new place due west on Aurora. Hopefully their current landlord learns some people skills and lets them out of their lease a little early since they are being forced out for a mid-rise developement. The good: My boyfriend got a haircut and loved it, it was what he asked for and the woman gave him a cut that complimented his face structure. They have complimentary candy, wifi, water, and a nice waiting area where you can watch them work. The bad: I asked for a specific haircut (I showed a picture and explained that I did not want it above a certain length). I have had long hair for 3 years and wanted a trim so that it was near my bra strap. Unfortunately the woman did not agree with the length or the style that I wanted (a v shape in the back so that it wasn't straight across) and cut it to where she thought was fit. It is near my armpits which is NOT what I wanted, I had wanted something that wasn't too different from my long hair and she gave me almost a bob. I have nothing against the women working there, and maybe my hairdresser was better at cutting hair for men, but I would not suggest for women to go there. I had gone to the salon based on the good reviews, but I ended up leaving in tears and not happy with the length that I ended up getting. My hair also ended up uneven and the woman seemed rushed to cut my hair near the end and spent less time on my hair than was needed. Women wanting a bob should go there, but women wanting to keep their long hair should be warned that it may not be kept that way. TL;DR They are excellent with cutting hair for men, but not so much women. read more

Been going here for years and I never complain much about anything. It just today I need a quick trim for my upcoming wedding and it only took her 5 mins to do the job. Obviously the work is basic so the quality is normal. However, the cost of 20$ for the 5 min service wasn't a great deal. Last time I got the same service done with a different person with a cheaper price. So it make me really confused when coming here since I don't know what to expect and how much it would cost me to get my hair done. read more

When I go to a new place for a haircut I usually find that it takes a few times to find the right person who can cut my hair the way I like it. I guess I should say the right person who can understand the way I describe it actually. I've been to this place twice and gotten haircuts from two different people and both times they were excellent. The two ladies who helped me were good at what they do, I was in and out in about 25 minutes including a cut and shampoo and I found them to be very kind and professional.
