The stylist I saw, Devonna, gave me one of the worst salon experiences I've ever had. This salon is very expensive, which is exactly why I felt it was reasonable to speak up when I didn't like my haircut. To be fair, I did have some trouble explaining exactly what I didn't like -- I don't know all the hair terminology, and there was clearly a bit of a disconnect. But I showed a picture and did my best to explain, and instead of listening and working with me, Devonna seemed not to understand what I meant at all. I never expected her to react so harshly. When I said that the haircut wasn't what I wanted, she became defensive, ripped the cape off me, and told me to go sit in the lobby because she was "freaking out." I hadn't raised my voice or been rude in the slightest all I said was it was not what I had wanted and I didn't like it. Still upset, I went outside to quietly call my mom, not realizing Devonna was sitting in her car. She actually got out to confront me in the parking lot, yelling at me to "go cry somewhere else because she was already crying in her car." Completely unprovoked and shockingly unprofessional. When I told the owner, instead of being horrified, she excused it by saying that seeing me cry upset Devonna even more. So according to this salon, it's acceptable for their staff to yell at a paying customer in the parking lot because their feelings were hurt? Disgusting. The receptionist was kind and apologetic, but the owner's reaction was beyond unacceptable. She never truly listened to what I didn't like about my hair -- every time I tried to explain, she brushed it aside and minimized my concerns instead of acknowledging them. Worst of all, she outright lied by saying I had yelled at Devonna -- something I never did. That lie was clearly meant to discredit me and invalidate everything I was saying. To be gaslit like that by the owner of the salon was shocking and insulting. This salon does not value customers, accountability, or basic professionalism. If you're paying high prices, you deserve respect and to be heard -- not dismissed, gaslit, and lied about. If you're someone who struggles to speak up for yourself, avoid this place at all costs. I will include a picture of the haircut I asked for and the haircut I got and you can tell me if you think its a $100+ haircut or even a good haircut. Nicole is so talented! I've been to Hazel 3 times and Nicole has consistently colored and cut my hair beyond expectations. I've gotten so many compliments since my visit two days ago. The first time I went, I wasn't sure what I wanted and she consulted and guided me in way that best suits my skin tone, my face shape, and hair texture. I returned to work after spring break and have received so many compliments on my hair. I do not recommend this salon. After going there for several years and never having a problem, I was unhappy with my service and expressed it to them, hoping they could fix it. Not only was I blamed for not asking for a different service (even though I had expressed my wants to the stylist who assured me it was the right service) but they have horrible customer service in general. Paying $300, I expect them to work with me to ensure I like it, and I thought after years of going there and having no issues, they would take my complaint as being credible (and not just a picky client). The owner is rude and I really fault her for this poor service. If you get a stylist, just make sure its not Tara. But overall, I wouldn't support this business and hope the other stylists, who honestly seem scared around the owner, find a better person to work for. read more

I had gone to Hazel for years and had always been happy with my experience. My favorite stylists often moved, so I either went to Tara or another whom I would develop trust with over my hair. I got my first balayage there and was happy with it until Tara touched my hair. I, like others, felt she was often distracted or wasn't always listening. She bleached my hair to the point where it was almost orange! I was so upset, so she later offered to fix it, but overcorrected it and it was then almost green! My natural hair color is black. I wanted warmth and she stripped my hair of any warmth. I went back to my original stylist who had an opening and when I showed her and the receptionist my hair, they said they had no idea how it got that way and kept looking at each other like they knew it was a huge mess up. It got fixed that day, but I never went back. My original stylist also eventually left the salon and I suspect that she was not happy there. Tara always seemed so impersonable to me and I felt like she was blaming me for my hair turning out the way it did. I am not the expert stylist who knows how to mix colors or knows the chemistry behind it all, but I know my hair should not have been green. read more

This is the best hair salon I have ever been to!! I found this salon in 2021, and have been going ever since. I am very happy with all the services I have received. Bambi is the stylist I have booked with for the past 4 years. She does an excellent job on color and cutting my hair. She is a pleasure to talk to and so personable!! The ladies at the front counter are always so kind, helpful and friendly. I was there yesterday for a color and cut, and I am extremely happy with the way It turned out., as always!! I booked my first Organic facial this coming week, and I am looking forward to this service as well. This Organic Salon has a very relaxed and inviting vibe to it. SO SAD to write this review. Marina was a very kind stylist! Misleading prices by management and rude front desk staff. Beware, they will not charge for short haircuts if your hair even grazes your ears between haircuts (4-6 weeks) it will be for a medium cut even if the back is short. Chairs in salon are also only for narrow hipped people, super uncomfortable. Sad I wasted so much money at this salon for the past year and that my hair stylist told me the wrong pricing once I cut my hair to a pixie length. To the management: if a customer is going to be paying for haircuts every 4-6 weeks you might chose to show some loyalty and integrity. If anyone knows any honest and affordable salons please let me know! One of the biggest PITA things when you move a distance is finding a new stylist. I've been avoiding it for over a year, taking advantage of the lack of traffic in Corona times to drive up to Everett for haircuts to avoid such pains. BUT NO MORE! In what can only be referred to as a miracle, I have found a wonderful stylist, Marina, in my first attempt to replace my stylist up north. And unlike nearly every single stylist I've seen before, there has been no awkward break-in period where the stylist is trying to figure out how your hair works on your head. Marina is skilled at settling my random cowlicks and creating a cut that is just what I like and how I like it! I'm beyond thrilled it was this easy to find a stylist who meets my needs (I keep my hair quite short) and am tickled to have a place so close to our current residence. I plan on staying close to Marina from here on out! read more

I have been going to this salon since 2017 for haircuts, sugaring, and balayage. All of my services have been great. I love that they are a low waste organic salon. Even though I've moved to White Center from Greenwood, it is still worth the drive up to see her. I love the atmosphere in the salon, and am always happy with my cut and color when I leave. I had a reasonable experience working with Tara, the Salon owner for my first service, I like supporting local women-owned businesses and her hair colors and products are organic, which is great. Her demeanor was ok, and the haircut and color were just ok, nothing interesting. We talked about getting more depth the next time with some foils. So in trying to book again, I was stymied by the clunky booking software that forces you to click every day, instead of showing her first availables...and her lack of availability, and at the receptionist's suggestion, perhaps I pick another stylist? sure, I am not fussy about my hair, good products - sure! BUT WAIT! All new services performed require a 15 min consult BEFORE that service can be done...just think about this...they require their customers to make a fully separate trip in to do said consult (no, you can't do it right before your service) you actually have to make a separate and distinct trip for the consult, and then come back for your service!!!!! and add COVID to it, they are forcing more interaction and forcing us to go out into the world... So, I ask you this, why do they need so much time to plan their service after this seemingly critical consult appointment??? Maybe they just don't know their (limited) product line so well that they need a lot of time to do research and planning? really? Is hair that radically different from person to person? Why require a separate appointment for the consult? Just to make your life a little more hectic, that you need to carve out the time to drive on over (or walk, in my case), use that gasoline, pollute the air that much more, and then check-in/wait (5 mins), 15 mins (probably only 5 mins really) consult, and then you get to spend the time to drive back to where you should have just stayed all along!!!!!! They get one star because of this rotten policy (and only partly because of the rotten call that I just had with their inexperienced front desk manager about said rotten policy)... I understand taking time at the beginning to discuss the plan, but in my entire life of thousands of salon appointments, NEVER have I been made to take an additional trip to consult. I always expect there to be time to mix the colors, or I suppose I've made extra trips considering changes like going to dredlocks or extensions, where products need to be ordered...but for a trim, foil, and overall color? Usually one expects to be offered a beverage while they mix the colors, after the consult... I don't know about you, but my personal services appointments are always intended to be a pampering experience of self-care...this does not feel like self-care. read more

Being new to Seattle I wasn't sure where to go for a hair cut but I knew I wanted an organic salon where I wouldn't be subjected to tons of weird chemicals . . . plus an establishment that had top-notch stylists. I've gone to Hazel now for two appointments to get my hair cut, and this will now be my go-to place! I booked appointments with Aubriel as my stylist both times and I couldn't be happier with the result. She is knowledgeable about men's cuts, understands what you want with little explanation, and is quick about it. Each time I was there for less than 30 minutes. I have pretty wavy and curly hair, and sometimes it really like to do what it wants . . . especially if I have a poor stylist. It can take some people a few cuts to know how my hair lays, what type of cuts are better, and what's going to look nicer. I have NO worries with Aubriel doing the cuts. We talk briefly before we get started on what we're doing this time, she understands it perfectly, and we get going. Plus, she gives an amazing head massage while washing your hair! The place itself is small and quaint, very inviting and comfortable. It feels like they are busy pretty often, as it's hard to get an appointment on short notice (so be sure to plan ahead some); but everyone there treats you friendly. I've been getting my hair done at Hazel for 4-5 years now and have loved my experience. I live 35 minutes away but happily make the drive. I've hopped around stylists simply because my own availability is limited, but have enjoyed working with Jessie, Marina, and Bambi. I've also been seeing Katy for sugaring treatments regularly throughout this time and splurge on the occasional facial. I 100% TRUST Aubriel to cut my hair! After growing my hair for years she was the one to cut off 10inches and I have stayed short ever since! I've never had my hair this short since I was a child and put full trust and control into Aubriel's hands and was not disappointed. Plus, I got to learn how to flat iron curl(I'm still not as good as her!) The salon is always clean and friendly upon entry. It is easy to find w/their own parking as well as street parking. Updating: I really hate to do this, but downgrading from 4 to 1 star. I went back to Shannon today based on my great experience with her last time. I asked her to cut bangs, which she totally screwed up (uneven, not the style I asked for), and instead of owning up to it she disguised it with clever styling. Mistake number 1. If you screw up, own up to it and we'll fix it. Once the product wore off when I got home, I realized how badly my bangs were botched. I post to their Facebook page and intentionally don't leave a review, because I want to give them a chance to fix it. Instead, they DELETE my post. This just so disappointing. Everyone makes mistakes, but the mark of a great business is owning up to them and doing what's right. I have two small children, so when I get my haircut I like to feel pampered and I'm willing to pay for it. After reading reviews of Hazel, I thought that's the kind of experience I would have. Instead, I waited 10 minutes for someone to greet me in the almost-empty salon. Aubriel seemed really rushed and it wasn't relaxing. She kept scraping my ear with the comb and kind of yanking me around. After I paid, I realized I had spent $60 for a 20 minute haircut (before tip). I know I just asked for a trim, but I've never been cut that quickly before and I don't have high hopes for how it will look tomorrow. I wasn't totally digging how she styled me either (I asked for loose waves). Honestly, it felt more like a barbershop experience than a salon. Update: If it were possible to take away another star based on the bizarre and passive aggressive response to my review, I would. Yikes. Since the issue was raised about the quality of my cut, I will follow up. My haircut grew out badly. I've now had two cuts at another salon to correct the unfortunate "shelf" of hair left in the back. read more

I tried it out for the first time yesterday, and I say they are GREAT! I found them through here and made an appointment through their main website with Marissa. I was pretty excited to get my hair done because it had been years since I have done anything major with my hair. I walked in and was addressed right away. The ladies there are very nice.. Marissa is amazing! She really helped me get color out of my dark black hair. I wanted to try getting my hair brown and she helped me by making my roots a darker shade and the rest a lighter shade. It turned out better than we had both expected! I wanted to keep the long length of my hair and she did a great job keeping it! She layered my hair and it looks even better now. Overall the color and the layered cut is amazing! I will definitely be coming back for the other services they offer. I am very glad I chose to try out this place! I probably have higher-than-normal standards for hair salons because my mom is a hair dresser and I grew up in them. That said, I'm really not impressed with Hazel. I had a couple appointments with Aubriel that went fine (though I always felt a bit rushed), but my last visit was bad. I had an appt. at 5 for a cut and color, but had something really important come up at work and called to see if I could push my appt. to 5:30 and perhaps just do the color and no cut. Tara (the owner) said that if I wanted to push my appointment out at all (even 15 mins) I would only be able to do a partial color. So one of my coworkers covered this big interview with ABC News I was working on and I rushed up to the salon. I should note, I was in a rush to get my color done because I was traveling to Phoenix for my grandmother's funeral that week. Anyways, when I got to the salon they let me know that Aubriel was running 20 minutes behind and that I could go grab a coffee somewhere while she finished up. All of this after they told me I could NOT come in a few minutes late to finish up my work. I was astonished by the lack of communication and customer service. Did Tara even ask Aubriel if they could push my appt. a few minutes late? Clearly not. My hair appt. was extremely rushed and when I got home I realized the crown of my head had absolutely no color. Now, I understand that with a balayage the crown usually is left darker to create a more natural look, but it didn't look right at all or anything like what Aubriel had done in the past. My mom (who has been a hair dresser for 25+ years and is trained in hair painting) couldn't believe I paid $250+ and, thankfully, fixed it for me while I was in Phoenix. I think some of the stylists at Hazel are talented (Lindsay did a great job on a haircut for me once) but the owner and receptionists really need a lesson in customer service. read more

I'm very low key when it comes to my hair, and have really no idea what I'm doing when it comes to styling or even the very basics like where I want to part it. Becca was great, she was patient and super helpful! I really appreciated when we were talking about bangs and she gave me a hard NO!!!
