I literally would walk 1000 miles to see Jane- she is a perfectionist and great at her craft- you definitely will not find anyone better than Jane in threading, skincare and waxing. FYI- Jane responds timely to all text messages and phone calls. She does not answer her phone because she is obvious attending to a client. I think it foolish for people to expect there to be a receptionist to take your every call. Jane came highly recommended, and I had tried to see her on another occasion... but alas my crazy work schedule has prevented me from actually making it down to Shoreline until today. Jane is AMAZING! Let me repeat myself... AMAZING! I have had Brazilians in dozens of cities, multiple countries and two continents, and Jane is definitely the best in terms of speed, least amount of pain, and coverage of hair-removal (ie, not a single hair left - clean as a baby's bottom). And the price is great too... not as good as So Cal (where Brazilian is a way of life and highly competitive), but probably the best priced Brazilian for the quality in the whole of Puget Sound. Jane beats out the high end London salons with one arm tied behind her back, hands down, eyes closed. So I should tell you the whole story... today my last meeting lasted about 2 hours longer than I expected, and I ended up running insanely late. I called Jane, and took a chance, hopped into my car and drove from north Edmonds, and arrived 30 minutes late. I totally wasn't expecting any service, as Jane is in high demand, booked back to back, and not taking new clients, so I just wanted to figure out whether I can reschedule or whether I blew my chances as a client all together. After looking at her book, she determined that there is no way I can be scheduled before leaving for my next business trip. I kicked myself and asked for a referral to a place closer to north Edmonds. I'd never had a brazilian but thought about giving it a try. Shopped around Yelp months before actually making the appointment and knew I had to go with Jane for the simple fact she has never been given less than 5 stars...I was not disappointed. Jane makes you not think about the fact that you have your cootch exposed and are getting the hair literally ripped out of it. There were a few "oh yeah, that hurt" moments, but this was WAY better than I imagined it being. I have never gotten so much as a bikini wax anywhere else, only pits and legs, and you know what? I recently moved and was looking for a sugaring place nearby. The gal I used to go to previously wasn't bad but she raised her prices recently and I wasn't gonna drive 20 mins when I can pay the same amount and drive 3 mins. So glad I decided to venture out!! You rarely find people in the service industry trying to save you money, but Jane seemed very knowledgeable with hair types, skin sensitivity, and recommended wax or hybrid with wax/sugar which is cheaper than sugaring. And to be honest, wax felt less painful than the sugar which was a win! She also paid attention to hair around lower belly and groin area. Jane is a brow threading goddess, she should seriously be inducted into some sort of aesthetician hall of fame. With a tough but engaging persona, she KNOWS what she's talking about. It doesn't hurt that she used to be a research scientist for a decade before she ventured into the world of beauty. For $15, I got a completely thorough consultation as she explained how my natural brow shape could be maintained with a few simple tips. Within minutes, they were threaded and looking better than they ever had before. As a bonus, she also recommended some skin cleansing rituals and advised against getting a facial at my age. Other salon owners would have tried to sell you in on unnecessary services but Jane prefers to thoughtfully educate her patrons and if they don't visit with skin problems in the future, she considers it a smashing success. She's honest and candid without crossing the line of hurting your feelings, a difficult line for most! Overall, I would recommend her to just about anybody. She's more responsive to texts for appointments and is a one-woman show but if you're willing to traipse to Shoreline, she's 200% worth it. read more

I'm not sure there are enough ways to describe Jane's awesomeness! Roll it back 6 months...I'm having my eyebrows threaded and I realize, the last few times, my eyebrows have been jacked up. Basically, the shape of my brows have been altered and I no longer find joy in having someone much too close to my face, holding thread in her mouth, smelling the nauseating scent of coffee. I decided it was time for a change. For the months ahead, I grew my brows out, randomly plucking particularly disturbing ones here and there and feeling...well, shaggy. I began the search for a new threader. Everyone I asked had recommendations in the south end and let's be honest - for me, living on the north end, that may as well be on the other side of the moon. I began checking it out on Yelp and I found Jane. As the time drew nearer, and my brows grew bushier, I became anxious. Finally, it was time. I sent Jane an email and had some correspondence with her. I told her my sad story of misshapen brows and she had mercy on me. Jane saw me within a day of me contacting her. I was grateful. I knew that Jane's spot was a little on the down low. Still, I paused outside her door and looked at my phone. Was this the right spot? Yep. When I went in, I was struck by the colors and design of the room. It was beautiful and has all the little touches that make you feel special. I nervously sat on the couch, waiting. Jane came to get me and she was warm, friendly, and quite frankly, gorgeous! She looked like she stepped out of the pages of a magazine and I found myself hoping, oooooh, will I get to look like her? Jane walked me through the process, letting me hold a mirror so I could see what she was pointing out. She came up with a plan to get my brows back in shape. We talked about threading and my previous experiences and she went to work. She was amazing, both in quality of work and her demeanor. I so much appreciated conversation with her - it was both liberating and humbling at the same time. Did I mention price? I felt like I could have paid her much, much more for her work and was extremely grateful for not having to pay the prices of a big name salon for an inferior service. Aside from heroic hair removal, Jane has other super powers akin to the Photoshop wand that one may use to "enhance a pic" and fade away a herpes cluster, acne scars, and/or razor bumps that look like herpes. Onto the issue at face. No but really, Jane owns a special wand called a Lamprobe. She has skillfully removed skin tags off my neck. Like lil' fleshy protruding moles, tiny enough, but bothered me a ton. Does it hurt? Yes, but so damn worth it! It scabs over, and in a week it's gone like MAGIC and baby smooth. Next was tackling the constellation of moles on my face. This process takes some time especially if the moles are dark, so for me, it's a work in progress. You wack a mole and another one pops up. There was a fleshy one near my lip that I got her to take care of, and I'm so glad I did. I don't want to look like some tita with hair growing out from a mole under my chin. Ugh. I think Jane's prices are super reasonable compared to some chi-chi aesthetician that works in a spa. Ask for a consultation. I know ppl claim blemishes are just unique, identifying, characteristics, but let's keep it real they are not something to celebrate over. Broken capillaries around my nose, smudgy sun spot, acne scars, and moles be gone dammit! Just holler at Jane, and she'll help you with something. read more

I am in awe that this place has such a high rating. My eyebrows are not symmetrical so when I go get my them shaped and threaded, I expect them to be more defined and even. After 3 minutes, I looked in the mirror and wanted to cry. Not only are they not shaped, one eyebrow ended up looking a lot shorter & thicker than the other! Arggggg! This is a pretty big deal for me because my eyebrows are sparse and take a long time to grow. I should have known that she is not very skilled at threading when she asked me if I've been tweezing, since they are not symmetrical. She said this would make it difficult to make my eyebrows and give them a shape, unless I grow them out for a year. I haven't tweeze my eyebrows for over a year! If you don't know how to work with my eyebrows, don't make excuses! She also did a mediocre job on my cousin's, which is really surprising because my cousins has full eyebrows for her to work with. They were still very thick and and undefined, meh. Maybe I just have an extremely high standard for eyebrow shaping. The place I usually go to in the Bay area does a flawless job, no matter how imperfect one's eyebrows are. I moved up to the suburb of Shoreline from my beloved Fremont and had to find a more conveniently located and affordable aesthetician. Let's face it, there are some things that I just cannot/should not do myself. Luckily, last fall, I happened to flip through a Seattle Weekly to find an article all about Jane Chang and her new studio, Studio JYC. I thought I'd give her a try, and I've been going to her ever since. I love that she is well-versed in waxing, sugaring, and threading. I had always wanted to try threading since I'd heard it's easier on the skin in the long run - less pulling on the skin than waxing. It's not my favorite thing to do (it makes my eyes water), but it does the job cleanly and quickly. She guided my eyebrows back to where they should be for my facial shape. Before Jane, I looked slightly surprised. Yikes! She has a super comfy table that is heated in the cool seasons, and a large fan for when the wax is a little too hot. She uses good products and has great advice for skin care. The other wonderful thing about Jane is that she has experience with other pregnant ladies. With my next visit, she informed me of how she'll take care of my pregnant, hormone-y, changing self. She's super professional and a hoot to talk to. An appointment with Jane is an appointment with one of your close girlfriends and confidantes. Besides all this, her services are a fantastic deal!! Her prices are ridiculously reasonable. I have thick hair that grows very fast. I also have thick eyebrows that grow very fast, giving me a constant caterpillar/unibrow effect. I used to get them waxed but it was never a pleasant experience and wreaked havoc on my skin. Then I read about threading, came onto Yelp, and found Studio JYC & Jane. I'm very happy to report that most of the reviews here are spot on! Jane is very friendly and skilled, and her prices are great. I love that she takes appointments by text and emails, since I loathe phones. Her place can be a little hard to find. I found the strip mall without any trouble, but her salon is tucked in a back corner completely opposite of the taco truck. There also isn't any sign on or above the door letting you know you found the right place. The lack of receptionist isn't a problem as the waiting area is full of magazines (and, I was amused to see, IKEA furniture). I found threading to be quite an interesting experience compared to waxing. It does still hurt, but whereas waxing is a lot of pain, a few times, threading is a little bit of pain for an extended time. I imagine it's how one would feel if you got sticky flypaper stuck to your head. The best part though, is no irritated skin afterward! I will be back for sure. read more

I do a Brazilian and eyebrows every 4-5 weeks and she's brilliant. She sugars my nether bits and I *don't get ingrowns* (I'm a redhead and that's a miracle.) I'm a guy and a lady friend introduced me to Studio JYC. I am mid 40s and at the age where usually brown spots start to show up. In 2 treatments all my browns spots are gone using RF technology to " zap" them away, 1st treatment you will not look normal for one week, lots of scabs depending on amount done, 2nd treatment are for the remaining burdensome ones and will be much less treatment time. I love Jane!! I have been seeing her since May and I will never go anywhere else. The place is a little hard to find but she gives you specific directions. I absolutly love that I can set up an appointment via text message with her. The first visit with her was very informative. She showed me exactly how my eyebrows should look and she talked me through the grow out process. She tinted, trimmed and threaded my eyebrows to perfection. On my second visit I noticed that my eyebrows were growing in a little patchy but she did wonders with my extra little patch and made it look like an eyebrow again. On my third visit with her she again threded trimmed and tinted my eyebrows to perfection and she even gave me advise on the best way for me to deal with a skin condition that I have on my upper arms.
