We've been hearing about how good The Soule Domain was for sometime and had never visited, so we finally made a reservation. Boy, are we glad we did! Here is what we noticed: - Our reservation was at 5:30, the time they open, and a bunch of people arrived all at once, but they quickly seated us all - They only serve beer and wine, but their wine list was really good and bottle prices were very reasonable for a restaurant. - Our server came over pretty quickly despite so many people arriving at once. - The menu is pretty broad with lots of different options, and there were many other specials as well. - My wife and I ordered the rack of lamb and the fettuccine with shrimp with added scallops. Both dishes came with complementary soup first. It's difficult to say which dish we liked more since both were excellent. The bread and hummus on the table was a welcome addition, and was especially good for sopping up the wonderful sauce from each dish. - We got tempted by dessert and opted for the bread pudding with a side of homemade ice cream. Wow wow wow is all I can say! - Service was great...There were three people working the entire place so service was attentive, but not overbearing. Bottom line: I almost don't want to rave too much because I don't want the place to get too crowded, but it's better than any place around that we've been to. We'll be back for sure! read more

Menu options were limited and way overpriced. Staff was rude to several customers at a table near us because of their choice of red baseball caps. Bathroom was positively disgusting. Disappointing overall experience. The Beacon will always be our number one choice when visiting Tahoe. read more

Don't book at reservation at 8:30 at this restaurant! We were celebrating my husbands bday and had some plans earlier so I made a reservation late. The bread was stale, the escargot was rubbery and the scallops and my sole were flavorless. Maybe the chef went home? It was a Thursday night after all. Our first time here and we were late due to road work. They still accommodated us and sat us at a nice table near a window. Our server had a hippy vibe but was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They offer beer, wine and sparkling only and prices were reasonable. We started by sharing the Grilled Lamb and Goat Salad which was quite delicious and filling. On its own, it could easily have been an entree. I ordered one of the specials, a crusted filet of sole that was cooked to perfection. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin and said it was very good. I was surprised at how small this restaurant was and how close together the tables are. It was like eating in grandmas basement and there were cobwebs on the ceiling. The waitress starts off telling you all the specials. It's a lot of information I would prefer a print out so I can read it all and see the prices. I felt uncomfortable asking the prices but I also don't want to be surprised with price at the end so I stuck with a printed menu item. No one was coming over to refill our water. I think our experience would have been more pleasant with the owner that was serving tables. He was very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and attentive. The food wasn't memorable. I'd describe it as an upscale diner: the service is genuinely good--welcoming, attentive, and clearly well-trained. That said, the pricing feels out of sync with the experience. At nearly $50 per dish, it's in the territory of some Michelin-level spots, but the room and overall vibe still read like a diner. Food-wise, the sauces on the mains were solid, and the meat/seafood were decent, but the vegetables were consistently undercooked and poorly executed, which really pulled the plates down. I'm glad to have on here to see similar experiences with the one I had. In summary, don't eat here lol. The food was good. I got the duck entree. My friends got the steak and one with shrimp. They also shared a lamb ravioli and enjoyed it too. The service was bad. Our waiter, Steve, did not check on us one time. We had to flag down another waiter on two separate occasions, and ask questions with the person who was bringing our drinks to which she said she wasn't as knowledgeable and should wait for Steve. About 40 mins in, we still had not received our food and my 3 year old says, "this is taking a very long time. I'm hungry. Where is our food?" He didn't put it in lol...Her unfiltered thoughts were truly how I felt. The pacing from ordering, to drinks, apps, to entree needs improvement. It was one of those places that when we got the check (which we had to flag another person for it, we already had our card ready to give right away because we didn't know if we would see him again, lol) We ordered food for my husband and when we got home, they forgot the soup..! read more

I took my wife to dinner last night to celebrate her birthday. I made reservations for us at Soule Domain just over the state line in CA. I was unable to get inside reservations because of a large party. So we ate on their outside patio under an easy up with two other couples. It turned out to be the best dinner experience ever! The other two couples and us had a lot in common and were close in age. We ended up having large discussions back and forth, wishing each other happy birthdays and happy anniversary's. Dinner started out with warm fresh bread and hummus. Diane had a glass of rose and soft drink for me. Then came a garden salad for me and a house special salad for Diane. Then came the cauliflower soup with cumin. Delish! For the main course my wife had duck breast with veggies. I had scallops, shrimp and lobster with rice and mixed veggies. Indescribably delicious! Celebrating our 30th anniversary, my wife and I decided to go back tot he place we had our first date. Before we get to the food, I have to mention how incredible the ambiance is. Came back here for the second time! It is definitely my favorite spot for dinner in Tahoe. The chef gave out a complimentary carrot and ginger soup. I end up always getting a special! Today I had swordfish. The sauce was sweet and spicy that paired well with the fish! I also had the flan this time for dessert which was good, but the bread pudding is still my favorite! This was by far the best restaurant that we have eaten at around Lake Tahoe. The chef has taken great care to serve food with great attention to flavor profiles. My wife had the scampi and I had the duck. Both were perfectly prepared. Please don't tell anyone about this place. It might get too crowded. Thank you chef for your flavor and texture sense of detail. This should be at least a two Michelin star restaurant. read more

Can't say enough about our experience at this charming restaurant . From the moment we walked in, we were welcomed by the staff and were seated in the room with the warm fire burning - it was wonderful. Then there was our meal- starting with a delicious soup, sharing a scallop appetizer, onto a delicious lamb chop meal and ending with cheesecake . We couldn't have been happier. Midlights: - Filet: just ok and pepper sauce was extra spicy. 3 stars - For reservations, you can cancel online but not change. - Have to put your credit card in to reserve and if you don't cancel by 5 hours before, they will charge $25 per person. - When you reserve there are a fee options (backroom, downstairs fireplace, outside, etc.) but didn't know what either of them were like to choose. Lowlights - Scallops pork belly: didn't care for the red sauce and pork belly pieces were tiny cubes. Scallops were good. 2.5 stars - Lobster wontons: unpopular opinion as I did not care for this favorite of so many yelpers. Wonton skin was good but couldn't taste much lobster --mostly ginger. If I could give ya 6 stars I would. Charlie (the sauce boss) and his brother our waiter gave us such a memorable experience during our recent visit to Lake Tahoe. They have been there 40 years and still have the pride in their space and work to impress the hell out of us. By us I mean me and my four partners who are restaurant owners ourselves for 25 years. It took us 20 years of living fairly local to visit. Our wedding anniversary was the catalyst. We wanted something special. We were not disappointed. We learned the day of our reservation that dear friends who were celebrating a birthday were also scheduled to dine that evening. At the last minute we changed our reservation to combine our tables. We were easily accommodated. I started with the diver scallops. They were exactly they way I hoped. Sometimes scallops can disappoint but these exceeded expectations. My husband went with the escargots which were not served in traditional shells and were tender and satisfying. Our meal came with a cup of roasted asparagus soup; earthy yet sophisticated. My filet mignon with blue cheese was the best I've had in years. The cut was on the larger side, tender and buttery. Other options at the table were the lamb chops, fettuccini with shrimp, fresh vegetables in puff pastry, and the fish of the day, dorado and panko crusted ling cod . We finished the meal with tasting all of the desserts. I loved the recommended bread pudding and the others fancied the raspberry lemon cheesecake, and ice cream and large oatmeal cookie. Steve was our server and a pure delight. We immensely enjoyed our conversation with him and he took very good care of us. We later learned after perusing the website that he is the manager and brother of Chef Charlie. There were many highlights of this evening. Steve was top in the ranking. Soule domain was highly recommended to us by a friend. The short review is that we're no longer friends. Longer review is that its a place that flatters to decieve. Shrimp fettuccine sounds brilliant, but tastes like paper. Lamb must have been sourced from the island of lilliput -- the smallest chop ever conceived. Bread pudding had so much sugar that if it was oil, the US would have invaded it by now 2 stars because expectation was low and it just about met that bar. read more

The appetizer Fettucine with Shiitake Mushrooms could be a main dish, I got the impression that it was Asian Italian fusion in a balanced way. Both main vegetarian dishes were great: Fresh Vegetables and Vegan Stir Fry w/ Miso Shoyu Ponzu. The fresh vegetables are cooked in a pastry dough and have a creamy sauce - perfect for a cold night. I remember being amazed at the food here years ago, so I brought my Mom for her birthday. I might have talked it up too much because although it was the night before Valentine's Day, the service and food was not as stunning as I remembered. Sadly, Mom didn't like her salad or her fettuccini. I loved the lobster wonton soup but did not taste any lobster. Still it was great. My filet mignon was average but the roasted vegetable were really nice. We were seated in the small corner which does not feature much atmosphere and is rather chilly. We arrived at 5 pm because that's what time google says they open. The hosted seemed slightly off put by this and asked us to "just go ahead and sit down on the bench by the hostess stand". I explained why we arrived at that time but it didn't make her feel any better about it. I am not likely to return sadly. read more

The little cabin was very intimate warm and cozy. It was a great spot for a romantic dinner. The servers were very nice and helpful. We got the fettuccine with mushrooms. We didn't know it could be so light and super flavorful. For the mains we got the fresh vegetables. The pastry was HOT, FLACKY, CHEESY, AND TOOK US TO FLAVOR TOWN. We also got the rack of lamb which was full of flavor and had me picking the bones clean. The only thing we wish is instead of the sour dough bread we could just have their house made soda bread. Must have been from day or two before Main entrees: we ordered two separate $38 curry chicken bowls. Both entrees tasted completely different. One was watery and one was super spicy. We also had a $35 shrimp fettuccine. It tasted like it should have been $22 at most. Maybe a step up above Olive Garden. The soup was horrible. Tomato soup out of a can would be better. The staff is very attentive and are a great team. We started with lobster ravioli and they give you bread and soup before the entree. My husband had the pork tenderloin which melted in his mouth, and I had the shrimp, scallops and 1/2 lobster tail with fettuccine in a yummy sauce. The Queen of Sheba dessert was chocolate, almond and whipped cream decadence, also gluten free. Add in a glass of wine and it can't be beat. We have been to Soule Domain numerous times and have consistently enjoyed our meals. I am writing this review to report that our latest visit was among the best ever. My wife's Filet Mignon with blue cheese dressing was excellent. My swordfish special was among the best meals I have ever enjoyed. Chef Charlie produces incredible, creative meals with several specials every night. It seems the bar gets higher over time, with this most recent meal a stand out among many great meals over time. From start to finish, we had an amazing experience on 8/7. We were a party of six, from teens to a grandparent, and everyone was thrilled with our visit. - Bread was fresh and delicious - Cauliflower fennel puree was flavorful and started everything off right Appetizers we had: -Lobster wontons - arrives in a broth that's spicy. You get a few, and then use the bread to soak up the broth. Really good, and something I'll be ordering in the winter if available still. -Korean shrimp - So delicious, shrimp was perfect texture and spiced. Even at the best establishments, shrimp can be tricking, but this was not briny at all or tough. Really enjoyed it. -Scallop special - I want to say it was garlic ginger, but I'm not sure. I had my own scallop dish coming my way, so I didn't have much. However, my MIL absolutely loved it. Dinner: -The special, which I believe was sea bass. Fam member loved it and said it was perfectly prepped. -Another got the swordfish and he could not stop raving about it. He is constantly traveling and is constantly experiencing great meals. He said this was one of the best dishes he may have ever had. -Kids both got Shrimp fettuccine. The Sauce was amazing. -Fresh Vegetables - rich and delicious, and definitely a full meal. -I got the Organic greens salad - SO fresh, and the mix of the beets, peaches and those candied walnuts...yum. AND -Thai Curry Scallops (appetizer as dinner). Ok, I cannot stress to you how incredible the sauce was. It was an absolutely gorgeous marriage of savory and sweet, and I could drink a pint of it. The scallops were tender and prepared perfectly. Dessert - Creme caramel - I can't describe it, I can only recommend it. It's like a perfect flan without that overly egg-y taste. It's light and sweet and the texture was perfect. Queen of Sheba - chocolate lover's delight Homemade ice cream - I don't know what they put in there but it has this amazing vanilla-cinnamon-almond taste that was a huge hit Strawberries - the white chocolate mousse was light and paired so well with the strawberries, which were fresh and vibrant Now, all the food was fantastic, but I have to say the service we received from Steve was impeccable. He truly made the entire evening a culinary experience, without any pretentiousness. He was attentive, easy going, and yet it's clear he knows what makes a great meal. He was very mindful of presentation, which we all appreciated. If you are headed to Soule Domain, I would strongly consider asking for Steve. Service was amazing, with one of the owners greeting us at the table to describe the food his brother and himself come up with. It's a very small intimate environment. What a perfect meal!! Service, ambiance and food were amazing. The special of the day appetizer consisted of 3 small scallops but every bite was mouthwatering! The complimentary onion soup was unbelievably good!! Both entrees were delicious and served piping hot. And we found out that they seated guests by the table not by your reservation time. So crazy and unprofessional. The meal was just ok and the dessert , Cream Caramel horrible . Soule Domain Monday January evening 6:30pm Our group of 11 was able to book a reservation at 6:30pm on a holiday weekend. We snagged two of the very limited parking in front of the restaurant and made our way through the cute wood cabin decor lining the walkway. The interior is tastefully decorated. Our corner was lined with stunningly vibrant photography for sale. If I were driving I would have purchased one. Our waiter described the food and wine beautifully. We recommend the Truckee River pinot over the Chanzy Rully for a sweeter finish. We loved our food, especially the complimentary bread and hummus and butter, and curried cauliflower soup. I devoured my special entree of sole in lemon butter. Wonderful flavors, wonderful ambiance, wonderful service. 10/10 recommend! read more

I wish I could give more stars! This tony little spot encapsulates the true essence of Tahoe. The restaurant is housed in an old log cabin that dates back to prohibition. Charming and warm, you feel like you're walking into someone's home as the smell of fresh cut firewood blends with the pleasant aromas gently exuding from the kitchen. 10 or so tables, yet no infringement on the private conversations happening around you. A couple of days later and I'm still puzzled at how the setting allows you to feel as if you're in a private dining area. Although we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary, Soule Domain is too wonderful to "soulely" reserve for special occasions. Dining hear is a real treat and one you desire to experience with regularity. There were six of us and we started with escargot (Tahoe Style, which is shell-less), and fresh diver scallops, which were absolutely wonderful. For entrees, we ranged from lamb chops to filet, and from fettuccini with prawns to dorado and panko crusted ling cod. You can taste the care and the staff's devotion to their craft in every bite. After filling up on appetizers, roasted asparagus soup, and our entrees, we didn't have room for dessert.....yet we indulged anyway. We had to. With how everything else tasted, we threw our diets to the wind and ordered damn near everything on the dessert list to create our own little sampler. Meyer lemon and raspberry New York style cheesecake, cinnamon/pineapple/raisin bread pudding, homemade vanilla/almond/cinnamon ice cream with a fresh blueberry drizzle.... Can I say more? Yes....yes, I can. The service was just as exemplary as the dishes and courses we enjoyed. Our server and bus staff were experts...true professionals as wanted for nothing. Date night!! Loved this place! We arrived on a Friday 45 minutes early and we sat at the bar outside till our table was ready. Bartender was pleasant and let us try different wines before choosing. Once inside the waiter Steve was awesome! Recommended specials which I accepted an offer to. The Thai Scallop sauce was SO good I wanted to drink it! I had the Australian fish and my fiancé had the lamb. We had perfect service, not too invasive yet attentive. Cuuuuuute cabin vibe down to the bathrooms being super cute. As far as the negative reviews. Well, they are comical. It's Tahoe it's going to be busy sometimes. Also, if you know Tahoe it's not arrogance it's a Tahoe vibe. I've lived in Reno my whole life and Tahoe is Tahoe enjoy it, and the locals. I love the owner keeping it REAL with the responses and believing in their business !! Yaaasss!
