My $4.50 can of Diet Coke
    Jill C.

A decent place for some basic bar food grub. We went on a Friday for lunch and it was dead. I can imagine it would be a fun place to sit outside in the summer - the deck looked very inviting once it's warmer out. Biggest complaint - we ordered diet cokes and were given cans. Um, what? $4.50 for a can of coke? No thanks. I figured since they had a full bar that they would have fountain soda. Lesson learned. Burger was decently cooked and fries were tasty but has a short window of warmth/freshness. The Mexican Benedict was yummy and served with cubed potatoes. Good sized portions and friendly service.

We came to Spindleshanks (what a name!) after an exhausting day of skiing. They have a diverse menu sure to satisfy all different cravings. I wanted protein and a simple prep. The pork chop was perfect. It was served medium and has just enough flat for that flavor. It was accomplished with an assortment of steam vegetables. I didn't think I would be able to finish such a large portion but it was too delish to leave any on my plate. The service was very personable and professional. The setting was very comfortable with a big fireplace in the dining room Spindleshank is a definitely worth a try.

Service started out a bit slow getting served. We were a party of 8 and got there at 5:30. however, service picked up. Drinks were brought out quickly after our order. Fresh bread was served. All our food was excellent. We sat outside and the ambiance was excellent. They served the kids first, which was appreciated. We will be back.

Whenever we're staying in Tahoe City, we usually cook all our meals in the cabin, but we decided to splurge this time and enjoy a meal out with our group. We didn't need a reservation for our group of 7, and we were seated right away. It's a small dining room that's connected to a larger bar area, but it's quite intimate and cozy. We started with the steamed mussels, bbq beer prawns, and the salad special, which came with arugula, brie, pears, and caramelized hazelnuts. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had, so tender and juicy with the most delicious buttery sauce! Extra bread was necessary to soak up all the flavorful sauce. The prawns were okay, flavor was great but the shrimp were a little overcooked. The salad was nicely balanced with the earthy cheese, sweet caramel, and freshness from the pears and arugula. I got the short ribs for my entrée, the meat was pretty tender, but I wish the slices were thicker with the bone in. The short rib sauce was rich and flavorful, and paired well with the mashed potatoes and veggies. It was fine, it didn't stand out among any other short rib entrée I've ever had. The seafood linguine was probably the biggest portion of pasta that I've ever seen get served in a restaurant. The pasta was overcooked in my opinion, but the seafood was all cooked really well - mussels, shrimp, bay scallops, squid, and fish. It's worth it to order this just to get your money's worth lol. Everyone else enjoyed their plates of duck breast, steak, and pork chops. Service was friendly and relaxed, we felt taken care of and welcomed right in! I'd come back to enjoy some drinks and apps the next time I'm in Tahoe.

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit -- the location was perfect, allowing us to walk over easily. The service was excellent from start to finish. The hostess, waiter, and busser were all attentive and friendly. My husband ordered the short rib and really enjoyed it. I had the pear salad and the halibut -- both were flavorful, and the halibut was cooked to perfection! We had a fantastic meal and will definitely return the next time we're in Tahoe.

    Split our seafoods linguini! Delicious!

Spindleshanks is a nice restaurant and adjacent to The Old Brockway Golf Course Pro Shop. Reserved parking for both restaurant customers and golfers golfing. The restaurant is cozy. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside you can enjoy peaceful, serene setting close to the golf course. We ordered off the Happy Hour menu. Happy Hour is only 5pm - 6pm. $12 appetizers. *Caprese Salad *Ahi Napolean *Roasted Mussels *Mushroom Ravioli w/tomato ragu *Southern Fried Quail w/mash *Hosin Ribs w/slaw We were eating light, so we only got the Roasted Mussels: PEI Mussels Roasted with with cajun spices served with clarified butter (4/5). These were delicious. After you get your mussel out of the shell, dip it in all that cajun spice that on the roasting pan. So good. Side of French Fries, served with ketchup (5/5). My wife always has a soft spot for fresh fries. These were very good. Crispy, hot, seasoned with cajun spices but not too spicy. Complimentary Bread and whipped butter (4/5). It was similar to focaccia bread. Served warm. Ed was our server and he was pleasant, friendly, and attentive!

Shrimp salad. Completely wilted and old tomatoes maybe from the day before and not stored properly.

Here is what we noticed: - Our reservation was at 5:30, the time they open, and a bunch of people arrived all at once, but they quickly seated us all - They only serve beer and wine, but their wine list was really good and bottle prices were very reasonable for a restaurant. - Our server came over pretty quickly despite so many people arriving at once. - The menu is pretty broad with lots of different options, and there were many other specials as well. - My wife and I ordered the rack of lamb and the fettuccine with shrimp with added scallops. Both dishes came with complementary soup first. It's difficult to say which dish we liked more since both were excellent. The bread and hummus on the table was a welcome addition, and was especially good for sopping up the wonderful sauce from each dish. - We got tempted by dessert and opted for the bread pudding with a side of homemade ice cream. Wow wow wow is all I can say! - Service was great...There were three people working the entire place so service was attentive, but not overbearing. Bottom line: I almost don't want to rave too much because I don't want the place to get too crowded, but it's better than any place around that we've been to. We'll be back for sure!

We started with the sage and cheddar biscuits, which were wonderful, and the glazed pork belly with chili crunch with toasted cashews - the combo of the nuts and pork was really delicious. We then had the Niman Ranch pork chop and grilled steak frites. Pork chop came with creamy polenta, mushrooms, and a blueberry glaze - I'm hungry just writing about all this. The chop was grilled to perfection - moist (no pink meat) and nicely charred for the flavor. The glaze is a hint of sweetness and the creamy polenta is a winner. The mushrooms are an excellent compliment. The grilled steak was also cooked to perfection - medium rare. The flat iron steak is such a great cut of meat. The fries in duck fat were very good. For dessert, we had a chocolate masterpiece. The meal was well priced considering the location and the time of year. And while the meal was special, it was the service that really made the experience special. While being utterly professional, the staff is also friendly and on top of it. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and she did a great job walking us through the day's specials as well as some of her favorite picks. I started with the In Crowd cocktail and really enjoyed it. The coconut, basil, and bitters balanced beautifully with the gin, making for a super refreshing drink that felt especially perfect for spring or summer weather. We followed our server's advice and ordered four items, two larger plates and two starters, and everything was delicious. Here's the breakdown: Trout Dip: Fantastic smoky, fishy flavor in all the right ways, served with crostinis. The only small nitpick was that the crostinis were overdone for my taste and shattered loudly when bitten into. Grilled Prawns: Super meaty and seasoned and sauced perfectly, with a bed of slaw that balanced the dish nicely. Scallops: Seared to perfection and in an addicting red Thai curry sauce. I was intrigued by the combo of kimchi, grits, and curry and have to say that it somehow blends amazingly well. Lamb Chops: Cooked to a perfect medium rare, expertly seasoned, with little gaminess and a cooling yogurt sauce that really brought the dish together. All in all, it was a fantastic meal and easy to see why this place is such a favorite among both locals and tourists. The food, the drinks, and the service all come together to make this a great option for any occasion from a casual night out (us) to celebrating something memorable like a graduation (several were happening while we were there).

We would bring family or friends there for a night classy night out, but it wasn't overwhelmingly amazing to us.

For 60$ I was hoping for more flavor overall. Daughter got the clam chowder. Which was really good. Wife and son got pasta. Wife got the shrimp pasta son got the butter and noodles. We ended up mixing the 2 together and was decent. Dessert we got the strawberry butter cake, crème brûlée (came with my meal), and lava cake. Dessert was definitely the highlight of the meal. We typically order from the bar portion of the menu at water bar/ short rib tacos, tenderloin burgers, cobb salad etc and those options are very good but we decided to try out the top end of the menu and it was pretty good but not great. Bacon wrapped Filet was under seasoned. and didn't have a great sear on it like really good steakhouses do. I felt like the sauce/gravy and mashed potatoes carried the flavor on the dish and the meat didn't have a savory flavor and you really needed the sauce because the meat alone would've been mediocre. Luckily the sauce and potatoes were tasty and the dish was overall good. Seasoning that steak top and bottom and a proper searing would take it from good to great!! 7.5/10 My wife ordered the halibut and it was pretty good but not great. A little dry , needed a little more seasoning and love to be a great dish. Risotto was just an uninteresting glob of goo with no flavor. I ordered the chicken Cobb salad. The salad was mixed greens along with olives, blue cheese, bacon, an egg, avocado, cucumber, tomato, and balsamic vinaigrette. Again, the salad was overdressed and the ingredients were rather scarce. The chicken was on skewers. The chicken was rubbery, dry and tough - so much so, I had to wrestle them off the skewers.
