Whenever we're staying in Tahoe City, we usually cook all our meals in the cabin, but we decided to splurge this time and enjoy a meal out with our group. We didn't need a reservation for our group of 7, and we were seated right away. It's a small dining room that's connected to a larger bar area, but it's quite intimate and cozy. We started with the steamed mussels, bbq beer prawns, and the salad special, which came with arugula, brie, pears, and caramelized hazelnuts. The mussels were some of the best I've ever had, so tender and juicy with the most delicious buttery sauce! Extra bread was necessary to soak up all the flavorful sauce. The prawns were okay, flavor was great but the shrimp were a little overcooked. The salad was nicely balanced with the earthy cheese, sweet caramel, and freshness from the pears and arugula. I got the short ribs for my entrée, the meat was pretty tender, but I wish the slices were thicker with the bone in. The short rib sauce was rich and flavorful, and paired well with the mashed potatoes and veggies. It was fine, it didn't stand out among any other short rib entrée I've ever had. The seafood linguine was probably the biggest portion of pasta that I've ever seen get served in a restaurant. The pasta was overcooked in my opinion, but the seafood was all cooked really well - mussels, shrimp, bay scallops, squid, and fish. It's worth it to order this just to get your money's worth lol. Everyone else enjoyed their plates of duck breast, steak, and pork chops. Service was friendly and relaxed, we felt taken care of and welcomed right in! I'd come back to enjoy some drinks and apps the next time I'm in Tahoe.

Split our seafoods linguini! Delicious!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit -- the location was perfect, allowing us to walk over easily. The service was excellent from start to finish. The hostess, waiter, and busser were all attentive and friendly. My husband ordered the short rib and really enjoyed it. I had the pear salad and the halibut -- both were flavorful, and the halibut was cooked to perfection! We had a fantastic meal and will definitely return the next time we're in Tahoe.

Spindleshanks is a nice restaurant and adjacent to The Old Brockway Golf Course Pro Shop. Reserved parking for both restaurant customers and golfers golfing. The restaurant is cozy. They offer both indoor and outdoor seating. If you sit outside you can enjoy peaceful, serene setting close to the golf course. We ordered off the Happy Hour menu. Happy Hour is only 5pm - 6pm. $12 appetizers. *Caprese Salad *Ahi Napolean *Roasted Mussels *Mushroom Ravioli w/tomato ragu *Southern Fried Quail w/mash *Hosin Ribs w/slaw We were eating light, so we only got the Roasted Mussels: PEI Mussels Roasted with with cajun spices served with clarified butter (4/5). These were delicious. After you get your mussel out of the shell, dip it in all that cajun spice that on the roasting pan. So good. Side of French Fries, served with ketchup (5/5). My wife always has a soft spot for fresh fries. These were very good. Crispy, hot, seasoned with cajun spices but not too spicy. Complimentary Bread and whipped butter (4/5). It was similar to focaccia bread. Served warm. Ed was our server and he was pleasant, friendly, and attentive!

Shrimp salad. Completely wilted and old tomatoes maybe from the day before and not stored properly.

Service mostly nice but slow. My friend got a burger- 7/10 nothing special Got the shrimp salad. Shrimp cooked beautifully but the tomatoes were completely old and wilted... 21$ salad and not much in it but tomatoes... so you'd think these would be fresh and not day or more old. Told waiter and he did apologize and offer to remake it but I was already half through it because they didn't check on us for a while, so I said no thank you. Didn't take anything off the bill... felt sort of brushed off.

Have visited for breakfast, lunch and dinner - breakfast and lunch were definitely our favorites! When the weather is right, sitting outside is the best. Service here is great (but take it with a grain of salt, everyone in Tahoe is on Tahoe time, don't get antsy), in fact we have had the same server the past couple of times we have visited. I will say though, dinner is very meh

We came here Saturday for brunch. It surprisingly wasn't too busy. This spot is right off the highway. They were serving breakfast and lunch. Lots of delicious options. They were serving mimosas and bloody Mary's. There was a bar but we didn't explore any other beverages. Service was kind and attentive. Eggs Benedict hit the spot.

Cheese Burger

Ordered their 9 oz cheeseburger - solid! The meat quality was good and could taste the char broil, adding to a tasty flavor. Can choose between seasoned fries (cumin flavored) or a side salad, at a total of $20. Although expensive, the quality is worth the cost. Service was friendly, ambiance was welcoming as well.

Had a yummy meal at Spindleshanks. They had quite a few vegan/veg options which is great. The service was quick, we were seated almost immediately, and the outdoor patio space is great. The vegan wrap was great. I wish there was a little more spice but outside of that really delicious. The portion sizes were large and filling, as well.

Here is what we noticed: - Our reservation was at 5:30, the time they open, and a bunch of people arrived all at once, but they quickly seated us all - They only serve beer and wine, but their wine list was really good and bottle prices were very reasonable for a restaurant. - Our server came over pretty quickly despite so many people arriving at once. - The menu is pretty broad with lots of different options, and there were many other specials as well. - My wife and I ordered the rack of lamb and the fettuccine with shrimp with added scallops. Both dishes came with complementary soup first. It's difficult to say which dish we liked more since both were excellent. The bread and hummus on the table was a welcome addition, and was especially good for sopping up the wonderful sauce from each dish. - We got tempted by dessert and opted for the bread pudding with a side of homemade ice cream. Wow wow wow is all I can say! - Service was great...There were three people working the entire place so service was attentive, but not overbearing. Bottom line: I almost don't want to rave too much because I don't want the place to get too crowded, but it's better than any place around that we've been to. We'll be back for sure!

The steak was a little too chewy and tough for my taste, but overall good flavor. I loved the wild rice pilaf side! - lemonade and sierra sunburn: both really fresh and seemed like they were made from fresh lemons! the raspberry in the sunburn was great The lighting was warm and the lights were really overhead. The benches were comfortable and not cold to sit on, and overall nice, clean, comfy environment. Service was really friendly and apologized that the drinks menu didn't have dairy-free options for some of the drinks with dairy, overall really attentive and engaging. We found a lot of street parking a few minutes away and walked over, also took a walk on the lake beach right behind it which was super pretty

But Julia, our server, was by far the most impressive part of our experience. Aside from her excellent attitude, she was very familiar with the menu, never missed the chance to try and subtly make the upsell and was very organized in the way she both took and delivered our order. My son received his soda from another employee before Julia had even finished taking our drink order, and I saw Julia running hauling ice and doing other things outside the normal server duties, which gave the impression that everyone on the team is looking out for each other. And I'm not entirely sure it had anything to do with me, but after a few minutes of turning behind me to watch the one screen showing the Stanley Cup game, another screen changed to it that was easier for me to see. This place is just what it needs to be, and it does a good job at it. PS- I told Julia, but you guys really should consider making a poutine style version of your slider dish. They choose the cheese melted over the fries and meat, and they can pour the jus over the fries. Just a suggestion.

Our server was friendly and knowledgeable, and she did a great job walking us through the day's specials as well as some of her favorite picks. I started with the In Crowd cocktail and really enjoyed it. The coconut, basil, and bitters balanced beautifully with the gin, making for a super refreshing drink that felt especially perfect for spring or summer weather. We followed our server's advice and ordered four items, two larger plates and two starters, and everything was delicious. Here's the breakdown: Trout Dip: Fantastic smoky, fishy flavor in all the right ways, served with crostinis. The only small nitpick was that the crostinis were overdone for my taste and shattered loudly when bitten into. Grilled Prawns: Super meaty and seasoned and sauced perfectly, with a bed of slaw that balanced the dish nicely. Scallops: Seared to perfection and in an addicting red Thai curry sauce. I was intrigued by the combo of kimchi, grits, and curry and have to say that it somehow blends amazingly well. Lamb Chops: Cooked to a perfect medium rare, expertly seasoned, with little gaminess and a cooling yogurt sauce that really brought the dish together. All in all, it was a fantastic meal and easy to see why this place is such a favorite among both locals and tourists. The food, the drinks, and the service all come together to make this a great option for any occasion from a casual night out (us) to celebrating something memorable like a graduation (several were happening while we were there).
