There's something understated, and yet magical about this spot. Small, down-home you let yourself in and tonight there was a lively duo playing the most familiar renditions of your favorite songs. Either take a seat or approach the counter and you'll be greeted by the owner, Kathleen, or both of your grandfathers wearing name tags. One of these guys, Larry, set us up with cheese and crackers. Kathleen decisively steered me towards rosemary crackers, hard cheese (pre-sliced), and a bottle of bubbles: a French white that was light, and not too sweet. Still a local favorite. Ive been coming here for over a year and the service can not be beat. Sheri remembers your name and is always so welcoming. Kathleen the owner is fantastic as well. They take reservations so with a small group, we can make sure we get seating together. They have been having live local music pretty regularly and the music has been a treat. Plus, when we went, they had chocolates in little dishes (and no, it wasn't Halloween). They offer very minimal food options where it lacks IMO, but they make up for it by allowing you to bring your own! Steal- you just need to know about this trick before you arrive. You'd end up saving a lot of money on food. However, if you do want to order, they offer packaged pretzels and packaged nuts plus some cheese in the fridge. Most of the cheeses and salamis were not replenished when I went, so make sure you bring your own. They also offer a martini bar for those that need liquor. It's a great deal - enjoy. I started with the Craggy Range Sauivgnon Blanc and my husband had the Axel Carmenere at happy hour prices. Prices were $8 and $10. My husband stuck with the same for his second glass. Apparently the locals know this place and come often and are very friendly at the very large bar. The servers always make you feel right at home even when you come there by yourself. They have this fancy wine tasting apparatus that allows you to pick your own wines by small, medium and large tastes, even after 5 PM when it's hard to find wine tasting. Stopped in here as a group of 7 and was not disappointed. The owners were super attentive and helpful in selecting wines for both my mother and I. My brother and his girlfriend shared a charcuterie platter and it had a nice selection of cheeses, crackers, and almonds - nothing overtly fancy but yummy to munch on while sipping the forbidden fermented fruit juice. I tried the Albarino simply because it was described as having a hint of wet cement. Seeing as I have never indulged in a hunk of wet cement I thought I'd give it a go. I loved that it wasn't as crunchy as I expected - no stones at all! It was a nice fruity white with a tingle of acidity but overall a lighter experience. I was surprised to hear they don't get much busier than what I had experienced because the place has potential to be a nice hot spot for both the young and more mature crowds. I especially loved the "buy a glass for a friend" section on their huge chalk wall in the back. That is quite fun! I wish I had friends to do that with. At least I have wine. read more

Just passing the 14 month mark, this spot boasts a niche in North Lake Tahoe when it comes to wine tasting.
