This place rocks, my family has been going here for over a decade now. I go here now and one day my kids will too.
Make sure when you go here, ask for Robert. That guy knows what the hell he's doing. I'm sure the other guys there do as well, but this one I deal with the most.
So here is my situation and how they dealt with it. I drive a 2008 Ford Taurus SEL. I slid on some black ice and ran into a stake in the ground that marks where the median starts. My mirror is busted and the fender ruined, and I have a huge dent in my car. Also I drive the beltway everyday so brakes and rotors are overdue and so are tires.
I'm looking for quality service but I don't want to spend a lot of money. I call up AAA about my situation. They wanted 1,100 bucks to do brakes, tires, and rotors. That's not counting the other stuff. I'm like, WHAT!?!?! Also they won't let me bring my own parts to save money, I have to buy what they have. So I skipped over them and chatted this local place up. Guess what, dad knew best. He's been going here for good reason. They understood what I was trying to do and just worked with me. They told me they would be happy to help save me some money by letting me bring in my own parts and they would slap them on for me. Very few garages do that just so you know.
I went online and shopped out rotors, brakes, and the mirror. I scheduled an appointment for Saturday. I'm a busy guy so I can only do weekends, weekdays they tend to have more room. I drop it off and told them to install the mirror, brakes, and rotors. About 3 hours goes by and I get my car back. This is what happened.
Breaks where fixed and rotors installed. Feels nice and smooth, stops on a dime now. The mirror installed. and looks good. HOWEVER.... something was odd. The Ford SEL comes with powered mirrors. Me trying to save money, got a replacement mirror that wasn't powered. Yet the thing was indeed powered. O_o
The guy took the shitty stock mirror I bought, took the quality powered mirror and used the shitty one as a rebuild kit. He rebuilt my powered mirror... It looks new.
That fender that got ruined. He fixed it and didn't charge me either.
Also, something most people overlook that I notice this guy does (because once in a while I won't be lazy and due my own brakes) he actually takes his time when it comes to doing brakes. Like he uses special glues meant to keep them stable and replaces worn screw bits when he goes in. That way rotors will wear evenly.
Keep in mind, I bought the parts separate. I'm just paying for labor. The station did stick on a small fee for "shop supplies". I'm not sure what that was exactly but the guy rebuilt a $100 mirror with a $45 one. Also, he fixed a fender. Here is the price breakdown on the invoice.
Remove and replace all break pads and rotors - $161.91
Install Mirror - 44.98
Shop Supplies - 16.55
Tax - 0.99 (Cause the state of MD needs their dollar)
Grand total was - 224.43
Does that seem a bit pricey for you? Could you get cheaper elsewhere? Probably... But you won't get quality unless you do it all yourself and you actually know what it is you're doing. Also I would like to add in this thing. Their pricing for parts is pretty equivalent to most other places. Depending on your make and model, they may very well be able to hook you up with a good price on parts. The big thing though is this. If they can't give you the best price for parts, feel free to bring your own. I'm sorry, but it's what you don't see on the invoice that saves you the most money.
Come Monday I'm scheduling them to do the tires next and then we may talk about that damn dent in my car. Money well spent. Also, do me a favor and tell them the Durham family sent you. ;-) read more
