Welp, only 2 short months later the second inverter is out and has been for 25 days in the hottest part of the summer without any alert or call for either SunPower or my installer. ABB inverters are the absolute WORST pieces of crap they can add to their systems, then they give you a refurb! let's see how long it takes to get someone else's junk installed on my home this time. I could see if I were a renting customer, but I am not I purchased this system, I would expect to get a new replacement under warranty! read more

The company had installers (contractors) put in the electrical and solar panels. We paid 46% of the full final cost. Now, over a month later, we cannot get hold of anyone at the company to complete the hook up process. The "project coordinator " does not answer emails or phone messages (that we leave with the "customer service" receptionist.) The company had scheduled a city inspection, but even though the city showed up, Sunpower did not - and they never contacted us afterwards. Instead they scheduled another inspection a month away. And still, they have not talked to us about it. So - great sales department (because they make it all sound good) and then a really scary customer experience. Terrible customer service. I now worry what might happen if there are technical problems down the road. read more

My story seems to be tracking very similar to others with recently installed systems. Our 12kW system was installed back in Mar'22 and was generating fine but not approved/interconnected. A month later we noticed a drop off in production and called SP. they said I wasn't a customer yet since we didn't have all of the approvals and it was up to the installer to handle it. Installer said it was just cuz it wasn't calibrated and needed inspection, etc. By May'22 nothing was showing up in the SP app so I called back...same response as before. Somehow they got PG&E and local inspector to get everything approved, shoved the e-paperwork over to me to start PGE NEM and my monitoring says I'm generating 0.0kW on an 80* cloudless day. It's been that way for a month. Installer sent another guy who says it's just the monitoring portion and that the SmartMeter is getting netted out with solar. He was supposed to get SPWR to resolve my monitoring and it's been a week of radio silence. So far I've had two billing cycles with SPWR and no confidence I have a working system. I can't recommend my installer nor SPWR at this time. If I don't hear back from installer soon I'm going to name them. Update after Jeremy B replied: there is no way to DM him in Yelp that I can see. This review is long over-due. We celebrated our 1 year anniversary from our turn-on date without any issues whatsoever. The consulting went quickly - I had already done my research and had my energy bills tabulated. The install was scheduled and took 2 days to complete. They took care of everything from permits to communication with the local power company for activation. The system performs flawlessly and produces the stated power. I did NOT pay a power bill for the entire year and I ran my AC during the summer months. We even charge an electric car every night. Kudos to the engineers for getting the correct number of panels and the installers for the very professional install. I'm a huge fan and will recommend to anyone who asks! read more

My name is Kristin Parks and I have been having problems with SunPower for the past 2 1/2 years. Every 3 months our solar system breaks down. It takes SunPower 3 months to send someone out to fix the problem. So essentially we only have the system working for 6 months out of the year but we still pay the monthly bill with no reimbursement for the months lost. The system costed $42,000. I have had SunPower solar since 2016. After getting some parts replaced in 2020, power output has met standards. I recently discovered that what SunPower is alleging I am pulling from the grid, and what the grid (So Cal Edison) is charging me are two vastly different numbers - by more than 2000 kWh for the year. Needless to say I am on the hook for paying more than $700 for a system that had me paying less than $200 in years past. This review for solely for the technician as I faced difficulties with getting an appoitnment. After placing an appoitnment a month out I requested days off work to ensure I was there for the set up and no one showed up to our house. After getting in contact with Lexi she was able to set me up for Friday with our solar technician Ted Ferguson who paid great attention to his work and ensured that each step was explained throughly. He has a vast knowledge about the system that was installed on my house and knew the answers to all of my questions. I leased from Sunpower. At the end of year one, I owed SDG&E a little over $200. In the middle of year two, Sunpower hired a contractor to replace some panels. The contractor was the first to notify me that the solar was not working when he called to schedule a time to fix it. (For how long the panels did not work, I don't know.) The result is that at the end of year two, I owed SDG&E $2,100.00. Sunpower notified me via email (no reply capability) that they would refund me $179 because the panels did not perform per contract. If I combine that number with what I paid SDG&E year one, the amount is $379. $2100-$379 = $1721 From my vantage point, $1721 is the amount of money that I lost year two from leasing Sunpower. Thank goodness I didn't purchase the solar right out! Beware! (Still haven't received the check from Sunpower.) read more

We made an appointment for solar power activation of our SunPower home system and the technician, Alante Bell, showed up right on time. He patiently explained to us the way it works, like how to turn the inverter back on if the power goes out, using the monitor and adding the app to track everything. First of all, I am not typically a reviewer. I ALWAYS give people the benefit of the doubt, and when I have a slightly poor experience, I just shrug it off. But this has been an EXTREMELY special case. When it started, I was very happy. My local dealer was extremely helpful and knowledgeable, install was timely and very clean. First year went FAIRLY smooth, as I only needed the installer to come fix the system 2-3 times. From the wi-fi connection going out to the inverter faulting. Nothing major. Second year, 5 or so major repair calls. Several panels replaced, two inverters replaced. Again, local installer was great. Sunpower Corp. was NOT. They were gracious enough to NOT credit the monthly lease payment, but to POSTPONE them to the end of the term. Okay fine. Then the system under produced. My true up bill was (from memory) close to $600, Sunpower gave us just under 400 to help. Okay, fine. This is in July, 5-6 calls and complaints later by myself and the local rep, finally get the refund check in NOVEMBER. Horrible experience. Third year, system was down for months throughout the year. They replaced EVERY PANEL ON MY ROOF, replaced another inverter, replaced the signalling unit, and had to come reset and repair faulted inverters several times. They sent out specialists from Sunpower Corp to help identify the problems and get them fixed. They POSTPONE my payments for 3 months, and tell me we will review at end of 3 months whether or not system has been repaired. 3 months go by, still not fixed, billing starts up again. They charge me for another couple of months (several complaints) before they finally re-start postponing payment withdrawals. FINALLY, system seems to be working (July 2018), but now I am moving out of town. Selling the home and transferring the lease to new buyer while payments are still suspended. I then receive my new true up bill (I believe close to $1,000) and SUNPOWER offers me somewhere between $300-400. My local dealer is so upset with Sunpower, he pays me the difference out of his own pocket. Local dealer was seriously fantastic through all this. Then, when I am ready to sign closing documents for home sale, Sunpower is demanding we pay the last two months "unpaid balance" for while payments were suspended. So that money automatically came out of my profit on the sale of the home as part of closing costs. Wow. Now...Fast forward to December...We have been out of our solar lease since July, and still have not received our refund for the lack of production. Now they are saying that they ACCIDENTLY sent our refund to the new home owners, and are working on getting us the money. Should hear back in TWO MORE WEEKS. They did send us a $150 gift card earlier this year as a "sorry for the trouble" gift, but that doesn't even come close to making it right in my opinion. I would not let anyone I care about buy Sunpower products. No exaggeration, I have never had worse service than this from any company ever. Trust me, these are the highlights. This doesn't even touch on how horrible the phone conversations were or the lead times for supervisor responses to my complaints. If it had not been for my local company working so hard on my behalf, I probably would have looked for a lawyer to get their crap off my roof. read more

If I could give a zero star I absolutely would. First let me say I am not a competitor of SunPower or a former employee. Apparently the last review I wrote struck a little too close to home as SunPower had Yelp remove it! I guess in my 7 month process of trying to get my system to work, I found out a little too much dirt on them. Let's just start with simple facts - SunPower is no longer the leader in solar production or customer service. They talk about warranties, production and pretty panels, but they don't talk about the systematic failures that are happening company wide. They are having MAJOR failures with their products being forced to replace thousands of systems and replace them at their cost because of THEIR failures. Why would they do that? SunPower tried to cut a few corners with their product and ended up selling faulty micro inverters to the unsuspecting masses. Corporate greed at the cost of the consumer. In an effort to avoid litigation, they are going behind the backs of their licensed contractors and dealers who install their product and blaming the installation process for the failure. All one has to do is Google the problems they are having- it's all out there! It's not the contractors but the manufacturer. So who does the customer go after - the contractor, after all that's who their contract is with, SunPower gets to hide in the shadows 'just being a vendor' and that's putting a hard working individuals like contractors out of business. And let me stress this, without the contractors SunPower wouldn't have a business plan. They have customer service issues that are impossible to handle because they are outsourced to the Philippines, the people in the Philippines are nice to talk to, but all calls have to be sent back to corporate, an around and around process that goes nowhere. The sales team tell customers what they hear in some round table meeting, instead of sharing with them the concerns so many of us other customers have had to deal with. We don't get our rebate checks, instead we're promised gift cards. We're even promised gift cards if our system isn't producing enough power due to a faulty system - what is a gift card going to do when I've invested over $40,000 to not have an electric bill? How about fix my problem or pay my bill! I know a lot about this company because I've been forced to deal with them for so long. It makes me mad that I have to rewrite this because they are doing their best to cover up the truth, pay others off. We've spent hours reading blogs about this, and having to experience the frustration first hand- a process that could have been avoided if anyone could do their job. Instead a file gets pushed from one desk to the next. They never return their phone calls or emails, instead we have to continually reach out to them for help and clarification. How should one feel when we've been poisoned to think that the SunPower system is the best, when if we have things that continually break or fall short, issues can't be resolved. An example - sending technicians to our house to diagnose a problem with our inverters, only to have them leave with no solution. I took a day off work, twice, and stood beside my electric panel and listened while they tried to figure out what went wrong. Instead they have the technicians telling me it's my contractors fault when it is not! I've been in my contractors office when he's made the calls on my behalf - always a 'we'll make a case file and follow up.' They never do. Instead I have to reach out to them again, and again. On the contractors side, I know they hold funds from them, I've been told and showed. Sales reps never make themselves available for conference calls involving me their customer, the last time we were told they were out of the office for a personal day when a little social media snooping proved otherwise, out hiking or biking, many of them together! I actually have to show up in my office to collect a check! And yet with all this free time, no one can call us back? I'm not the only one in my neighborhood that's had issues with SunPower, and our systems are 14 months and 8 months old-NEW! This company has hid behind a reputation that was built by those who championed it years ago - sadly most of those individuals have moved on. SunPower is in a world of hurt, both with the manufacturing side of the company and the customer service side of the company. It's just a fact! SunPower has sent out emails to contractors and dealers advising them not to discuss the class action lawsuit rumors, or what to say if they are asked. But hey, if that is't enough to get you to think about reconsidering, check their stocks. RESEARCH FOR YOURSELF! Yelp has done a disservice by removing my last review to others. This information should be made public because it's our right to tell people what's really going on with SunPower, not allow them to tell (pay) Yelp what I said wasn't true, it is! We purchased Solar Panels from Power. We asked our salesman if a lien would be placed on our home. We were reassured that no lien would be placed on our home. We trusted our salesman Mark Abe was then financed through Tech Cu/Solar. Tech Cu is a credit union in the Bay Area. We recently applied for a reverse mortgage on our home. Imagine our surprise when our loan broker called and said we have a lien in second position on our home mortgage! We called our salesman Mark and was told by him that all we needed to do was call Tech Cu/Solar and ask them to remove the lien until we sigh loan docs then they will put it back on. We were told they do it all the time. I called Tech Cu and asked them if there was a lien on our home placed by them. I was told there is a lien but not on our home it is only on the panels. I informed her that it came up on our title report that there is a second on our property. I asked her if the lien could be removed and put back on after we signed loan docs and she told me that Tech Cu does not do that. Now we are forced to apply for a personal loan to pay off Tech Cu so that we can go ahead with our reverse mortgage. We never would have gone with Solar Power or TechCU if we knew a lien was going to be placed on our home. I feel as is this was a Bait and Switch with us. No one has helped us with this issue and we are very disappointed. Be careful before you commit to Sun Power. Read the fine print. We were duped. read more

Thankfully, I have had a bad experience with SunPower from the get-go so as not to get involved with your company and my money. I inquired about using your solar service a few weeks ago and it's been one delay after another and one lie after another from your poorly trained and apparently unethical sales rep. Lies are unethical. You got my house address wrong, not once but twice, even after I pointed out the error. BS about having to cancel my video conference because your computers were slow AND you getting the time of the conference wrong, making me waste time sitting in front of an empty screen waiting for you. Setting up a system in the WRONG rooftop AFTER I pointed out the correct house and then telling me I didn't qualify...ON A HOUSE THAT IS NOT MINE. Then wanting to sell me on a ground system for which I have plenty of space. Then not communicating for a couple of days and when I reached out lying to me telling me you had sent me a text. You did not because I get all your texts. Then telling me you're working on my project. And now, 10 days later I have not heard a word. When I reach out today, I get the same BS lies that you sent me two texts claiming my roof wasn't big enough AND you could not set up a ground based system in my area. Both lies. There are several other homes near me with less roof area which have solar panels on them AND there are at least two other properties that I know of which have ground based systems in place. So you see, poor service and unethical practices on the part of your "sales" person actually worked out for the better because they have convinced me to stay as far away as possible from SunPower.
