Got Watts installed two phases of solar panels on my roof, 67 panels in total. The job was massive, the price was fair, and the follow up service was excellent. There were hardware glitches after installation, but the Got Watts team reliably spotted them - without me realizing there was even an issue - and sent teams out to ensure my equipment worked as promised. Years later I noticed some leaks through my roof where some phase 2 panels were installed. I notified Got Watts and they sent large crews to my home to rectify the issue over several days. This was no small fix. They probably spent vastly more to rectify the leaks than they did to install the panels to begin with. No one likes to have problems with an install. But, it means a lot for a contractor to honor their commitment and spend vast sums to honor their warranty, and their word, to their customer. I've had "good companies" make promises they wouldn't honor once the initial check cleared. Got Watts was true to their word and treated me in a dignified manner that is rare these days. I contracted with Got Watts in April 2025 for roof installation of 18 panels and 15 kwh of back-up storage. While their price was actually the highest of the 3 company bids received, the difference was marginal and the communication/information/responsiveness by Got Watts was far better. Day to day as the project proceeded, there were problems and we'd solve them. No project of this scale will proceed without a few hiccups. In retrospect I think it went very smoothly. I found 100% of the personnel to be professional, dedicated, knowledgeable, and cheerful. They did everything they said they would, at the price agreed-on, and I'm very pleased with the result. I finally jumped onto the Solar bandwagon. Although solar customers got better incentives for selling extra solar energy back to PG&E under NEM 2.0 in California (before April 2023), we wanted solar to have battery backup in the case of an outage. Our neighborhood has had numerous blackouts over the past few years, and with a young toddler at home it's extra inconvenient. To add insult to injury, PG&E is the inly game in town and electricity costs seem to always go up. Solar helps defray the electricity cost while charging up a backup battery for your house. I chose Got Watts from a coworker's referral. There are tons of Solar Companies out there and lots of horror stories. My coworker is an extremely thorough engineer so I trusted his rec. I went with a 10-panel (4 kw) system with Tesla Powerwall 3 battery. The entire project took about 2 months to plan, engineer, secure permits and maybe 3 part-time days to install, commission, and startup. Got Watts deserve 5 stars as the managed the entire process and communicated throughout the process. Their crews were professional and did excellent work. Specific Shoutouts: 1. Samantha is the first point of contact to size and price out your system. She used your annual PG&E statement and Google Earth to calculate number of panels and optimum placement of panels based on solar radiation patterns specific to your home. 2. Chris came out a few days later and used a cool drone to scan the roof and to examine the location of the electric panels, breakers, and garage layout. The position of the Powerwall Battery and Gateway were determines. 3. Mallory was the permit specialist and communication contact who also helped with scheduling. They handle ALL the paperwork and approvals - you just make sure to write checks for each milestone. 4. After two months or so, installation day arrived. They sent a 3-person roofing crew (led by Justin?) and later two electricians (Alex and Dan?). In about 6 hours the panels, gateway, battery, and steel conduit and connections were all done. The mostly worked outside and in the garage, and had to access our attic for some connections. Power outage was near the end and only lasted an hour or so. 5. Alex came back the same week and spent another 2-3 hours finishing up the wiring. 6. Finally, Marc came out the following week to commission, configure, and startup the system. We also managed to get our City Inspector scheduled same day to review and approve the system. Startup had some hiccups due to IT issues but Marc managed to fix it with Tesla Customer Support. The whole process took maybe 4 hours. Highly recommend Got Watts for Solar. It is an investment but for me, the peace-of-mind to have power during blackout and brownouts is worth it, and I'm not 100% confident PG&E will get better. Its also nice to see our future electric bills drop. The payback period will vary - maybe 8 years or so which isn't too bad considering the battery is supposed to last 20 years and the panels maybe 25 years. read more

I figured what was one more vetting process and reached out. Right off the bat Jared did a great job of being very frank and up front about how their company operates, had reasonable and valid reasons why they were -not- going to be the cheapest but why there were going to be the -best-. We live in PG&E territory. We were paying $0.40 + for power and on top of that our area experiences blackouts around every other month. Eric Schaefer's knowledge of how to convert an old rancher into an electric heat pump system was the principle reason why we contracted with Got Watts. His customer service was excellent with quick response to all our questions. He also coordinated with the solar division to give us credits if we did both projects together. Best decision we ever made - our new HVAC system is efficient and QUIET, and the solar system seems to be performing as expected. The HVAC team of Jed & Ben were outstanding from day one to completion...very professional and dedicated. The best part, they communicated each day exactly their goals and worked tirelessly to make everything perfect. They seemed to really care about the quality of their work. They always asked about our desired placement of the equipment, and gave several options if changes needed to happen. Before leaving each day, they meticulously cleaned up and discussed the next steps. The solar team involved more personnel, so the communication was not as clear on who was responsible and who would be doing the on-site work. I recently worked with Got Watts for the installation of Solar Panels, Tesla Powerwall 3 (Energy Storage) and an upgrade to my electric panel. From my initial inquiry to the final completion, the entire process was professional, thorough, and efficient. The Sales Process: I initially contacted Got Watts on 3/15/2024 for an estimate. By 3/20/2024, I had a virtual meeting with Samantha to discuss the costs and system configuration. Samantha was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful. We have a 20 panel system from Got Watts. They put the panels in the shade. As a result, it produces about 2.5 kw a day from November to March. Which is nothing. We complained, they offered to wash the panels. The inverter needed to reset. Rather than explain how to do it, they said to contact the manufacturer. "We install them, we don't support it after installation." We found YouTube video showed us how to reset it in about 3 min. So they couldn't even be bothered to do that. In other words, after sales support from them is YouTube videos made by someone else. Unsurprisingly, the owner complained that with NEM 3.0, he thought his business would go under. Probably better to go somewhere else if you want any sort of support or maintenance. read more

We recently had an incredibly frustrating experience with Got Watts on a project to install a 12 panel solar system, Tesla Powerwall and EV Charger. We are including below a few of the major issues that occurred during the job. We have been homeowners for nine years and have worked with a number of companies and vendors and this is the only negative experience we've had. We understand not every job is perfect but found the below issues to be extreme and were consistently handled with a lack of professionalism and communication. 1. During the bidding process, the company emphasized that limiting the visibility of conduit on the roof is a key part of their design process. When the actual installers came, they located a highly visible penetration on the front of our house and ran highly visible conduits across the roof. After discussion, the owner (Troy) acknowledged that the penetrations and conduit were poorly placed (penetrations should have been under the panels/conduits in the attic), and that he would follow up asap. After 10 days and no follow-up, he then said they would just paint all of it black. We pushed back again to hostile messages and ultimately the company came back more than 30 days after the mistake and was easily able to re-locate the penetrations under the panels and hide the conduit in the attic - it took them about half a day after fighting for weeks. 2. On the first day of our install, the electricians elected to work hot for the work in our main panel. During that period, our bathroom lights began behaving erratically and eventually our lights and our exhaust fan were shorted out and destroyed. We notified the company immediately. After a couple days, they sent a technician who said the voltage in the circuit was fine. Despite continually following up, we did not hear from the company again for 10 days. We researched the issue over that period and had to inform the company that it appeared that circuit (a multi wire branch circuit) had "lost neutral" while they were working in the panel. Mysteriously, the lost neutral "fell back into a hole" after they closed the panel, which is why the issue ended and voltage was restored after the panel was closed. This is the actual determination and quote that the owner gave us. The neutral "fell out" and then "fell back in," which isn't the company's fault. During his inspection to make that determination, he also damaged a wall in our bathroom requiring patch and paint. Ultimately, we made the repairs ourselves (replaced six lights and an exhaust fan + patch and repair) at a cost of over $500 + 8 hours of work and the company did not offer us anything. 3. In addition to our $45,000 solar project, we were quoted $3,500 to add an EV Charger, which the company insisted was because we needed a $1,500 add-on monitoring device. The installation technician was confused when he arrived and said this was completely unnecessary with a Tesla powerwall / wall connector set-up. 45 days and many emails later, the company processed the negative $1500 change order for the device that was never installed. 4. The company advised us during the quote process that our house needed micro inverters per panel based on shade patterns. The installation crew then forgot to install the micro inverters, instead doing a 3 string set-up. The company called to ask if that was OK and reversed their guidance and said they were never necessary based on our shade patterns. We still don't know. 5. Our install was the addition of a new system to supplement an existing set of panels. At the beginning of the install, the company disconnected the existing solar strings apparently by simply cutting the DC wires and leaving them uncapped in a junction box. After the company notified us the installation was "complete," we observed that the production was far too low and guessed that the old system hadn't been reconnected. They had not done any testing to confirm that each of the strings was operational. About five days after we informed them of the issue, they did eventually come out to finish the work and connect the old system. read more

TL;DR: All companies are great on the front-side of sales: lots of shiny brochures, impressive graphics, and what-not ... far fewer will show up in an hour /after/ the sale when there's a problem. Got Watts will. Not long ago, we had a fairly minor issue with some of our panels in the high-wind/rain and the crew was over in less than an hour in wet-suits with ladders. Problem solved before lunchtime. A few weeks later, a had a "Hmm... I wonder?" style question and emailed Jeremy, the owner, with a "Hey, no hurry, just wondering in the future..." and received a comprehensive response, like, the next day (and another follow-up). My wife and I already have solar panels and looked to GotWats for a battery back up plan to provide us with protection against power outages. Jeremy asked for and received extensive our PG&E records along with our electrical needs. A proposal was provided and when we reviewed that proposal with Jeremy he suggested that with our existing 20 year rate lock with PG&E we would receive no economic benefit by going forward with the expense. Imagine that, telling a consumer how to save money, by turning down a non-beneficial expense and loosing business in the process. That is true professionalism. When our 26 years old air conditioning went to heaven, we decided to go with a heat pump system (combo of AC and heater). It took Got Watts one week to install and completed the system in July 15, 2024. City of Oakland took 1-1/2 months to schedule an appointment and we did not pass the first inspection due to building codes upgrade to HVAC in Aug. 28th. Got Watts brought us up-to-code and we finally passed the second inspection in Sept. 25th. In the afternoon, our control devices were showing errors. Got Watts tried to troubleshoot over the phone and we still got error messages. Next day, Eric came by to fix the problem. As of today, Sept. 27th, our Heat Pump System is working perfectly and ready for the next heat way. Yep, 5 stars, let me tell you why! My background is 15+ years of design and Project Managing in Mechanical, Electrical, Piping & Technology (MEP/T) at firms in San Francisco and the last three years of hands on PMing in the Land Mobile Radio industry on large projects. So I kind of know what I am talking about when it comes to reviewing my solar install with Got Watts. Enough about me, let me tell you about my great Got Watts project and experience. It was time to actually get solar installed so I did the typical Yelp thing, and requested a quote/contact via Yelp and shotgunned it out to a bunch of companies. Insert your standard review quotes, bid leveling, talking to contractors and such, and at the end I was impressed with Got Watts' sales representative, Sam Moore and the Got Watts proposal. Her proposal was simple, clean, yet technical and detailed with all the info one would need to evaluate. Based on this proposal, their great Yelp review, years in business, valid B General Building Contractor, C10 Electrical, C20 HVAC and C46 Solar, I made my decision to go with Got Watts. From the then on the process was super smooth. In Person Site Survey= Professional and smooth. Chris was out and walked though Sam's original design, validated the spaces on the roof and reviewed with me on site. One thing I especially liked about Got Watts' proposal is all the conduit from the solar arrays is run INSIDE the attic. There are no conduits running over my roof, nothing wrapping around the eves, it is all hidden inside the attic. It looks good! Final quote and contract = Discovered my house's electrical entrance was too old and too small for solar. We needed to add a bigger entrance panel, but since Got Watts' is a full C10 electrical contractor, they were able to roll that directly into the project. Contract was laid out clearly, stated all the details, all the pricing clearly and the terms were standard. Project Kick off and Management = Detailed, verbose, personable and hands on. Before the contract was signed Sam introduced me to the project team with Lindsay Altman taking the lead on the install process. Right as the project kicks off, Lindsay sends out a very detailed email with all the steps for the project, when to expect certain emails and letters from PG&E, the solar supplier, the financing company, etcetera. Super detailed and gives you an instant overview of the whole project, when the home owner has to do things, when PG&E might do things and when Got Watts will do things. The Install and the Install Crew = Professional, on the ball and easy to work with. These guys rocked the install so much so I asked for their names so I could personally recognize them of their work. Justin Bennett, Jeremy Leatherman, James McCaslin and Alexander Wollschläger all worked on my project, were great, helpful and fun to work with. Now being a Cat Lord myself we have to give a shout out to Alex's cats Loaf, Baguette and Croissant who were honorary mascots along with my cats Automat Kalashnikov (Auto), Ophelia (Fifi) and Claire. Since I had to have a full meter and panel board replaced, the install crew scheduled with PG&E for a very tight integration. PG&E fully removed the lines coming to our house, James and team had the new panel in, new mast with weather head, all new conductors in and then had PG&E back on site and our power on fast. They offered to set up their generator to keep the fridge and such powered up, but it was so fast we did not need to. So while I was actively involved in the project, it was because I am curious and interested in how things work. The great Got Watts team, including the President Jeremy and the VP Troy Carlock take a hands on approach, with Jeremy answering my technical questions, and Troy finishing the final inspection. Got Watts installed solar panels on my roof in 2022 and I decided to add batteries in 2024. I called Sam Moore and she informed me that Got Watts was now certified to install Tesla batteries and that is what she recommended. Based on my electric usage, she recommended two Tesla batteries. A month later, Danny and Brian did a great job installing the new batteries and showing me how to use the Tesla app for the new batteries. Then Marc reviewed the install and coordinated the inspection with the city of Oakland. Marc also reviewed the Tesla app and made some changes to some of the default setting, which enhanced my understanding of the Tesla app. Everyone I interacted with was professional and knowledgeable. So unhappy with Gott Watts service - They installed solar panels under a heavily shaded area which rendered the panel useless! - why would I order 12 panels if only 11 of them work? Did not connect a consumption wire which allows homeowners to production of power vs. consumption, and told me it was not something they normally do - I spoke to multiple solar companies that thought this was suspect - how would you know if your panels are producing mre or less than you need if consumer could not monitor this for themselves I think they are super busy and the follow-through is not thorough - read more

I would give them 10+ stars if I could. We just had Got Watts put in our solar system. We absolutely love it. They did a great job designing the system, explaining it to us, showing us how the app is used to monitor the system and importantly, how our new PG&E bills will work. It all works exactly as described. The system automatically adjusts to storm weather forecasts so we can be sure to have power for extended periods.
