This install required dodging lots of extrusions from the roof.
    Jason P.

I don't write reviews generally. So the fact that this is up here - and with this level of detail and effort should say a lot. After speaking with eight different solar companies--through Yelp and other referrals--I ended up finding Jeff through his AMAs on Reddit. His technical depth and transparency stood out immediately. He even invited me to visit a large, active job site. After that visit, I was confident he and his team could handle my project, even though it was smaller by comparison. My priorities were clear: I wanted to maximize solar output with the highest-wattage panels (I had limited roof space on my HOA-regulated, end-unit townhome), maintain an AC-coupled setup for specific reasons that I won't bore you with here, and avoid going with a Tesla battery. Jeff and his team delivered--installing 17 REC 460W panels with Enphase IQ8X microinverters. There were approval-related delays that ultimately led to switching from FranklinWH to PointGuard for the storage system. That change turned out to be a positive one. After doing my own research and seeing the system in action, I believe PointGuard offers more long-term flexibility and performance. I would have been happy with the Franklin, but I think the PointGuard is more future proof. (YMMV) Darlene was patient and responsive with me through multiple schedule changes and over a month of delays on my end. Erick, the lead installer, handled the installation with the calm, cool, and collected energy of someone with deep experience--while still bringing a genuine enthusiasm to the work. He also put up with all my nerdy technical questions without missing a beat. And the crew's work speaks for itself: clean, buttoned up, and exactly what you'd expect from people who do this week in and week out. The most remarkable part-and this was a true magic trick-once final approvals were secured, the entire install AND inspection process took just two days. Jeff even came out on the second install day to work alongside the crew, knowing they'd managed to schedule the inspector visit for that same day. The city inspector arrived three hours after completion and passed us on the first visit. As of late May, the system is producing around 50kWh per day. I'm genuinely pleased with the outcome and highly recommend East Bay Power Systems to anyone looking for a knowledgeable, reliable solar partner.

    Hyundai panels. Beautiful work.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Great customer service from start to finish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] After talking with a few different solar companies, [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went with EBPS because they felt the most human (and not the least bit salesman-ish).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I ended up needing my main panel upgraded, as well. The whole process was handled by them and set up with PGE from start to finish. My solar was just installed and my gutter paint was even touched up from a few dings that were left. I am so happy with the results and service and definitely would recommend to anyone looking into purchasing solar!

    New solar array

East Bay Power Systems was great to work with. I would highly recommend them for a solar system, storage system or just electrical work in general. I already had a solar system and needed more power and wanted to add backup storage at the same time. The original installation was done by a large national brand (Sunrun) and the process was lengthy and painful at times. In the end the system was functional, but the communication was subpar and it was expensive for the level of service and the equipment they used. [[HIGHLIGHT]]With Jeff and Darlene I was always in the loop and was able to collaborate on which equipment was used and the details of exactly how it was installed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] In the end I'm really glad I ended up going with a local business for my expansion project.

I can't say enough good things about Carlos Gomez from Sunlight Electri-Cal Solutions…read more I've been working on a non-standard solar setup using an EcoFlow Delta Pro Ultra X and EcoFlow Smart Home Panel 3, and finding a contractor who truly understood this type of system was incredibly difficult. I spoke with many contractors, and almost all of them sent salespeople who gave generic answers or tried to push cookie-cutter solutions that clearly didn't fit my setup. Carlos was completely different. From the moment he arrived, it was clear he wasn't a salesperson -- he's an engineer, and it shows. He took the time to deeply understand my system, reviewed actual spec sheets on the spot, and immediately identified issues that other contractors completely missed. Multiple companies told me Hyundai panels would work fine. Carlos checked the amperage limits, applied proper safety margin calculations, and clearly explained why those panels would not work with my EcoFlow system -- saving me from a costly mistake. He also walked me through: Proper panel selection within voltage and amperage limits Safe string configurations and series wiring How to maximize roof space while staying within code Permitting requirements I hadn't been told about before On top of that, Carlos identified critical code and safety requirements that no one else mentioned: Bollards required in the garage to protect battery units Correct battery placement to maintain required clearance from doors and entrances Heat detector requirements for battery installations in a garage These are all things that would have caused inspection failures later -- and Carlos caught them immediately. He spent well over an hour with me, climbed onto my roof to check for obstructions, inspected battery placement, reviewed wiring paths, and answered every question in detail without ever rushing me. What truly sealed the deal was how efficient and transparent the pricing process was. Carlos was able to turn around a detailed quote very quickly, and when I received it, I was honestly surprised -- it was a significant amount lower than every other quote I received, even though his evaluation was by far the most thorough. Given everything: His technical expertise The level of detail and care The ability to integrate with my existing system The fast turnaround And the much better pricing Choosing Sunlight Electri-Cal Solutions was a complete no-brainer. Carlos is knowledgeable, meticulous, honest, and genuinely passionate about doing things the right way. After meeting him, I completely understand why this company has such strong Yelp reviews. If you're in the Bay Area and need electrical or solar work done the right way, especially for a non-standard or custom system, I highly recommend Carlos and the team at Sunlight Electri-Cal Solutions.

The project was incredibly well organized, from getting our initial pricing through every step of installation; nothing fell through the cracks. They also handled all the back-and-forth with PG&E, which meant we didn't have to worry about a thing on that end. Dan Moran managed the project and kept everything streamlined throughout. After installation, he came back out for a consultation with my husband and me to walk us through the app and show us how to get the most out of our system. Cassius Camus, our energy consultant, helped us get set up with the right plan from the start, and Colton led a clean, professional installation. Every part of the process felt carefully handled. If you're considering solar, I'd highly recommend this team. They are professional, organized, and locally owned! They made a complicated process feel simple, and the job got done in record time as well.

When we raised concerns, I believe the salesperson my partner dealt with wanted to make things right, but sales leadership stepped in, dismissed our concerns as unfounded, and offered nothing. Those concerns were (and still are): 1) Sketchy contract execution. NPP offers a 5-year prepaid lease in partnership with Balto Energy. It lets homeowners offset installation costs because the leasing company collects a 30% federal tax credit (no longer available to homeowners) and, in NPP's words, "monetizes that tax credit over 5 years." The contract was executed by sending the DocuSign to just one partner, with all owners lumped onto a single signature line -- one person signing on behalf of the other. For a married couple in California, that's legally questionable under community property law, given a) the encumbrances placed on jointly owned property, and b) no power of attorney authorizing one spouse to sign for the other. I never saw the agreement until installation was underway. 2) Misleading claims. My partner was told, verbally and in writing, that we'd "own the system outright" at the end of the 5-year term. In truth, the contract contains only vague language about a fair-market-value buyout, with no detail on how to initiate it or who to contact at end of lease. We've had zero contact with Balto through this entire process -- only NPP -- yet NPP's sales director told us they have no role in the lease agreement once it's signed. In other words, they don't stand behind the product they sell. Don't be like us -- do your diligence (especially if you're over 65 and new to solar leases), verify every claim against the actual contract language, and make sure all owners review and sign every agreement.

My parents purchased solar from a HORRIBLE company that sounds a lot like 'SunFun'. After they passed away, and the house was sold...we were STILL making the monthly payments for over a year!!! That SunFun organization REFUSED to transfer the solar to the new homeowner, and eventually stopped taking or acknowledging our calls. It wasn't until we had to threaten the new homeowner with a lawsuit that SunFun finally transferred ownership. Due to this, we could not trust any of these solar companies...that is, until Kevin Bedard came to our home, and explained everything in great detail to my husband and I. He took the time to hear about our concerns, and he showed us how he truly cared. That same week, we spoke to two other families who shared their positive experiences about Ambrose Solar that made us feel that we would be in great hands. We had FINALLY FOUND A PEACE about getting solar on our home; KNOWING we would be in good hands, and we were ALL IN. It's been six months now, and we are beyond pleased with our solar panels, and the two Tesla batteries we have purchased. We are true fans, who have NOTHING but RAVE REVIEWS for this company. He told me what to look out for in terms of equipment. After I got the quote, the folks at Diablo were very helpful answering questions along these lines.
