I am in escrow waiting for a simple question regarding future service costs should I agree to assume the loan from the buyers. I was given a 48-72 hour window to receive a response. That came and went. Called again, was given another 48-72 hours for a response. This is not off to a good start. Now the owners can cancel my purchase contract and they just might. I hope this posting inspires a faster response to my question but maybe the current customers can provide some insight here for me. How much does it cost to remove and then reinstall panels when roof work is required? Yes, number of panels and the arrangement I am sure effects the cost but an honest estimate from ANYBODY is appreciated, assuming I get to continue with the home purchase. read more

My 5.5Kw system has been flawless for 5 years. On-panel inverters are the best. Purchased not leased. 5 years ago, net cost with incentives was $8k. I get about $800 worth of power. Straight cash payback is 10 years. However, look at it this way....what bank will pay you a tax-free rate of return of 10%. I can't find one. And it adds at least $8k to the value of my house. I can attest to their efficiency claims. When sun angles are right I get full rated power from every one of my panels. I like being able to monitor their individual performance since I have on-panel inverters. read more

I could not be happier with the power output of what I now call. my very own power plant. To be able to produce this much energy with the Cenrtral Texas Sun is extremely empowering. The quality and look of the SunPower product is the best in the business. I am also surprised at how quickly I will get my return on my investment. Initially I was thinking 7 years but now that I am getting an electric car I think it will be more like 5. I even like producing electricity for my neighbors during peak production hours. It's just satisfying in a way that most investments aren't. We designed an carport to face maximum solar gain and I purchased the higher end panels and don't regret it in the least. SunPower simply makes the best solar panels available. I am designing a new studio for my business and we are making sure to have a roof side facing maximum solar gain so that I can build yet another, off grid this time, Sunpower plant. We will be installing a battery back up system as well. No doubt I will be using Sunpower X series panels once again. 4 stars only because I think the software is lacking a bit in the fact that it is running behind on calculations so I don't get real time feedback which would certainly help when I am trying to maximize efficient use of electricity. I would be great if I could turn on the dryer and real time show the whole family how inefficient a clothes dryer is. We installed Sunpower roof solar and battery back up in our garage last year. It has worked well and has been easily managed over our iPhone app. We have some problems with the company with respect to correctly communicating the scope of each installation step, but eventually everything worked out well and to our satisfaction. Technical and billing questions over the phone have been timely, reliable, and always resolved or answered our query. If our initial installation communication was better, I would have given them a 5 star. read more

I just want the Solar Panels to work properly Ongoing concern for about 10 months No answer to way the panels face North Technician verified that the panels are not producing the amount of AMPS it should be producing ( using AMP meter at my home on a clear day with direct sunlight. ) Customer rep says 2 inverters are not working and system is not producing what it should and said they cant fix it because system does not connect to wifi. I moved in to a brand new home powered by sunpower at first and once the panels were put to use it was great, our electricity bill was so low and the panels were producing lots of energy. Then, I noticed a sharp decline, I waited a month or two to ensure the panels were the issue before calling customer service. I talked to several neighbors and some has panels that worked while others were in the same boat paying essentially DOUBLE the price for the panels and electricity. I called customer service they attempted to convince me that it was due to the wildfires because the ashes made the panels dirty and we would have to hire someone to clean them (even though it was months ago also it had rained so much in between). So they wanted me to spend even MORE money fixing their issue, after the runaround with customer service I finally asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that they would call me back in 1-2 days. I recieved NO call back and now am back going through customer service to try to figure out the issue, meanwhile this entire time I'm literally paying double for the panels and the electricity bill I truly do not recommend, I'm all for saving the environment and doing what's better but not for some scam company that refuses to help it's customers read more

Where do I begin with the accolades about Sunpower...Let me start by saying the customer service is top notch! Every email and phone call was returned promptly! All deadlines were met with room to spare! Elliot Fisher was my sales rep and he was awesome! He explained everything in detail but was easy to understand! Their product is a little more expensive than their competition, but this is a product that is going to last 3 decades or more, so it is not something you should compromise with the quality. This company is incredibly frustrating to deal with because of 1) their poor customer support that is handled offshore, 2) on-site visits have to be scheduled months in advance, and 3) they have troubles recording your payments to them. EmPower by SunPower highly recommended, I did a lot of research before decided to go with EmPower by SunPower, their proposal was not the cheaper but I would say they are the best. Great communication, an assigned project manager handling your project from start to finished and let you know every step of the way in progress. The crews that installing the system did an excellent job, good workmanship and they not using cheap material. My system commissioned couple days ago, I have sixteen X22 360 watt panel, it produced average 27 kWh/day even its not 100% sunny day, it cover all my daily electric usage with spare to sent back to the grid. Still waiting for final inspection to close out the building Dept permit, according to my project manager it takes approximately a month, will update that when certificate of completion received. It's too early to say 100% satisfy will update from time to time for a long terms review for the progress of the system reliability and stability of power production. read more

This company is absolutely TERRIBLE at responding to emails or answering questions. I work at a title company so I work directly with the clients and the solar companies to get the documentation to transfer the leases or payoff the lease and remove the UCC/notices from title. This company has no regard for what a title company needs in order to give buyers a clear title and to follow the lenders instructions. Every email I have sent to homesale@sunpower.com, which is the ONLY email they use to communicate for each case manager, I NEVER get a direct response back. And when I did get a response, it was days later and their email had nothing to with what I had asked about. I don't know how they are with their clients, but they are terrible with mutual third parties... and this makes my job more tedious. I wouldn't recommend them AT ALL. NEGATIVE STARS read more

Everything is done professionally during installation, however, there were few back and forth for city permit issue because of my detached garage setup, but all completed in the end. I could not have been more satisfied with my SunPower installation. I recommended this service to several friends. Then it fell apart. I have not been able to monitor my system's performance since March, 2021 because no matter what I try I get an error message telling my my password is wrong. It is not, but I tried changing it anyway. No success. I have written to Customer Service repeatedly and I do not get the courtesy of a reply. I even wrote a letter to the CEO. It apparently fell into a void or was shunted off to... Customer Service? This is far and away the worst customer service I have encountered with any company. Had an issue with my newly installed system not communicating monitoring information. After several attempts, I double checked my account information - turns out that my address and contact info was from my previous Sunpower system in New Mexico. Catherine Malaluan with Sunpower tech support quickly & efficiently updated my info for my current location and I was able to connect with my monitoring info before I got off the line with her. I can now bask in the glow of bar charts showing how much energy I'm producing! read more

Update: it has been several months without issue. I believe my case has been resolved. Update: It has been 2.5 months, and problems have begun again. The system lost the ability to transfer data to SunPower Monitoring System. My ideal scenario is to go at least six months without any issues. That has never happened since install. I was supposed to have access to a customer liaison. I have called both #'s and 1 seems to be disconnected, and the other has not been available. It seems they are having technical difficulties. I find that I am angry with SunPower. I have no patience for this company poor performance issues. Contract with this company at your own risk. I would only recommend them to a person I wanted to torture. Update: my case was escalated and resolved to a satisfactory level. I have changed my original review to 3 stars. If the system manages to stay up for six months with no issues, I will re-evaluate this review. WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T USE SUNPOWER. 20 years is a long time. Leasing solar from SunPower is the worst decision I have ever made. They have non-existent customer service. They do not follow through with the production guarantee. They install poor quality systems that break down several times a year. They over promise and extremely under deliver. My system has been down two months, and there is no eta for when they will fix it. They do not follow through. If there is an issue plan on being the one that calls both SunPower and the local vendor that does the repairs. It can take more than ten phone calls to get an issue resolved. Even when the issue is resolved, it does not feel like they addressed it. Most of the time the problem comes back quickly and often. Once you are done speaking to them ... you will usually be angrier when you hang up the phone. I am looking into breaking the lease because they have not completed my 2nd-year production analysis. I am hoping this will be enough to show a Breech of contract or lease. I do not want to think about 18 more years of an unreliable system. Nor can I fathom working with this company to keep the unreliable system up for 18 years... read more

We've been trying to get a tech to come out to our house for an inverter communication problem. Our first call was a couple weeks ago after moving into our house. After resetting the solar panel and connecting to our new WiFi, we still had errors and informed Sunpower. We were told we would be contacted to setup an appointment for a tech to come out to check on the inverter. After a couple more calls to follow up, we were told our case manager would call us back with an update. No one called us and so we called again and were told that our case was subcontracted to a company on 7/20 but we have not received any calls. No phone number was provided for the company, just the name of the company and an email address. After searching on google we realized this company is based in Riverside and we are in Northern California (makes no sense!). My husband was provided only an email address which he immediately emailed and it was instantly returned undeliverable. We know the solar panels aren't generating anything because we received our first pge bill and report. My husband calls customer support again to speak to a manager and after being on hold for over 30 min is told the person is busy and the call needs to be escalated but we will be contacted back within 24-48 hrs. Again with waiting around and no results. This has been completely frustrating I'm hoping that someone from management contacts me because we are getting nowhere. read more

SunPower has failed us on every level. We started engagement with the company September of 2021 for a 2 battery, 51 panel configuration, under 100k price tag. Then in December, when they were supposed to install, they postponed to January, and gave us a higher price tag, blaming it on "supply chain issues" though they had already agreed on a number prior. They insisted we first change our entire roof, all the roof tiles, which we did. They finally showed up in April, and upon arriving promised to complete the entire job within 4 days. It's now almost July, they partially installed roof solar panels and electrical main panel, and batteries, but the system failed to commission because one of the main parts is bad. We have no ETA from anyone including the project manager, who admits this is the most mis-managed company she has ever worked for. She blames mis-management of the Operations/Installation team, Operations team blames Design, and now we have no options. They have jumped ship, abandoned the project and left us with an unworkable system. We have no trust in them. Extremely disappointed, frustrated, and regretful we ever chose this company. Can anyone recommend a good attorney to go after this type of corporate negligence and rip-off? Please save yourselves a lot of pain and aggravation. We trusted them when they were in selling mode, they gave so many assurances, but they did not deliver. read more

SunPower has the best panels on the market. Their customer service is very prompt and they are a great company to work with. My panels have eliminated my power bill and they stand up to hail, snow loads and wind very well. Plus I don't have to worry about them in the future because they have the best warranty in the industry. read more

Spectacularly poor service. We've had panels on our roof for months. They're completely unable to be activated. All I've received from SunPower so far are broken promises and updates that never come. When I get calls back, they've done no prep, have no updates, and seem to be completely clueless about how solar is activated. It's pretty nuts. I feel like you'd really have to try hard to be this unhelpful. I would never recommend working with them. read more
