Well, They did arrive about 10am instead of 8 am as we were told. The two man crew is all over the USA making repairs, they spend a weeks in NY then back out on W Coast etc etc. It seems to me, if you sell in Volume, you should also have Tech to cover the need. The crew were professional, and very skilled, and said it would take about 4 hrs to complete the job, and it did, they did not stop at all. We are happy to announce after six months of calling and getting lip service , the solar panels are back up. Now I will post this, so keep in mind if it is taking forever for repairs, this may be why, understaffed. read more

Sunpower does not do a test run to ensure the Solar panels installed are working fine post installation. Takes 2+ months to enable service post receiving full payment. Sunpower system refresh/ upgrades takes 1+ month during which home owners can't access their data. Their mobile apps are out dated and buggy. Takes 40+ mins to connect when called Customer service ‐ no option to auto call back, customer service billing dept have no clue on what to do and how to help customers with tariffs / reimbursement/ etc.,. Sunpower Solar have out dated processes/ systems/ apps/ huge supply delays/ poor knowledged staff/ pathetic customer service/ worst customer experience. Customers have to spend 4-5 hours to figure out that these are outdated systems and wait for technician. Most of the neighbours in our community faced challenges with SunPower Solar, everyone have to reach for help since installation ppl didn't to their job right but promptly takes payment. read more

DO NOT get solar through this company. I say this if you ever plan on selling your home. It is a mess. Before we agreed to getting solar. I asked the sleazy salesman Alex, who buy the way no longer works for sun power about transferring the loan or possibly taking the system to our new house and he swore up and down that it's no big deal "we do that all the time" only to find out that in order to do this you have to pay off the loan of 30k and additional cost to relocate. I repeat do even let them into your home. And also if you don't pay 30% of the loan in the first 18 months your loan payment goes up about $80. They'll make it seem like you'll get that from the tax rebate but that's not the way it works. Very misleading. I will take responsibility at the fact that I didn't do more research and just assumed the salesman was an honest person. read more

Here we go again. The inverter failed for a second time within 4 months. Based on the error code, it is the same problem as the first time. Once again, I caught the problem, not Sunpower (which is supposed to be monitoring my system) and called them on December 16, 2017. Have a new SunPower system on my new home. The SunPower team is not responsive. Our system is currently not active, and it's been 15 weeks since close of escrow. My neighbors systems are on, however, ours appears to be lost in their system. Can't get a clear answer from SunPower on when our system will be operational. They will not respond to emails, and their call center isn't very helpful beyond sending you in circles. I do not recommend at this time. read more

I just had my SunPower system installed by EmPower Solar. They had the panels up in under 2 days. I chose to get the 335's on my front roof for aesthetic purposes and got the 327's on the back. Best decision ever! I can't wait for snow to melt and spring to come to watch the production shoot up on my monitoring app. read more

This review is for the service personnel, Bruce, not for Sun Power itself as the service was configured turned on yesterday. Bruce was very patient in understanding the needs of having wired connectivity for Solar monitoring as against wireless and recommended the appropriate solution. The company, SunPower itself had me do a lot of back and forth calling and almost always missed in notifying Bruce (who came twice) with the right information before coming to the appointment. Bruce patiently activated the system finally using a spare part that should've been otherwise provided by the company. SunPower management, if you are reading this review, please train your call center folks to update and share notes in a timely manner with your field personnel so that customers like me don't have headaches getting our Solar devices activated and monitored because of lack of appropriate equipment part. Bruce's diligence led to successful activation on the 2nd appointment. read more

I would not recommend SunPower for your solar needs. The do not provide customer service after the sale. We have complained on several occasions about equipment failure and they have failed to repair or even follow up on the issues. Our system has not been working properly for over 3 weeks and they still make no effort to resolve. When we call, they put you on hold, over an hour on several calls, and then never come back to you. We have contacted the service company directly, solar topps, and they say without SunPowers authorization, they cannot come out and service the equipment. If this was a one time deal, I would say just bad luck. However, we have had the system for 15 months and the issues continue to be unresolved. Would not recommend this company to an enemy. read more

SunPower does not deserved even a single star review (it should be zero) because of the following: (1) very poor service; (2) discourteous no-notice cancellation of appointments; (3) irresponsible for not replacing my broken roof tiles; (4) having the lessors paid for the cleaning of SunPower owned solar panels; and (5) not honoring their "promise" of extra monthly payment/check. SunPower considered my issues with them resolved as they have had a subcontractor replaced their defective inverter last May 28, 2021. It took SunPower two (2) long years to replaced their defective equipment. My issues with SunPower is not totally resolved because SunPower did not fixed/replaced the five (5) roof tiles that their installer broke when they installed the solar panels in 2017. It is also possible that their technicians who inspected the solar panels in 2019 are the ones who broke the tiles. Another thing is that SunPower has not paid me for the extra payments that I made to SMUD since 2019 because of their defective inverter. SunPower also issued only one check since 2017 instead of the monthly checks promised by their sales agent in 2017. It is my opinion that SunPower should be responsible in cleaning their owned solar panels - SunPower wanted the lessor of the solar panels to do the cleaning which could be very expensive to do. There are better solar power companies than SunPower out there - shop around. read more

Dont even recommend their Inverter ( and everyone gets issues with Inverter in couple of years) and it takes them months to service. I love having everything manufactured by one company so I know if anything ever went wrong it's one phone call to get fixed to 1-800-Sunpower. In addition I like the fact that I get a 25yr performance guarantee for my AC peak output. I may add to my system later so having the 400 watt panels allows plenty of room for me to accomplish this for an EV that may be in our life eventually. read more

In the beginning, before we signed the contract, customer service was great. Our rep was very friendly. After we signed the contract in 2018, we had nothing but issues the first year. The solar panels were not showing that they were storing any energy, especially through the hot months of summer. I had to keep the temperature higher through the year since we weren't saving anything on energy and now we had a new monthly lease payment for panels that were not doing anything. From your records you will see I called multiple times and a tech was sent multiple times, the first visits all they did was reset everything, which I told them was not the issue. Finally, by the end of the year, after the most expensive time of the year, the issue was fixed. We lost thousands of dollars in savings because of the lack of service. I thought that we should be compensated, but was squarely denied. Since I had nothing to compare the savings to, being the first year, it was difficult to argue. This year, now that these issue was fixed, we have not paid anything for energy during the summer months, which was our expectation when we signed the contract. I feel that we should be compensated for this loss since it was solely due to this company's mismanagement. Obviously, we are stuck with this lease, but, without any reconciliation for the issues we've had, I can't in good conscience recommend this company. In fact, now that our solar is working, I advise people to get solar, just don't go with SunPower. Thank you for listening. read more

I have nothing but good things to say about SunPower. The overall process and installation were flawless. Prior to activation, there was an issue with a wire. I wasn't even aware, but they were! They came out and fixed the issue right when they became aware of it. Michael Jarrett was here today to activate it for me. In the middle of COVID-19, he stood back on my porch and stated he was practicing social distancing! It was great! He did what he needed to do. Then, it was time to walk me through the app. We stood 6 feet apart and he walked me through it. Proof that we can still function as a society and maintain our distance! I was unfortunate enough to buy a home that came with an overbearing Sunpower lease. The inverter unit routinely faults on cloudy days resulting in grid disconnection and low power output. It also generates unsettling sparking sounds during the faults which make me wonder if its going to one day pop and burn down the house. I called up to Sunpower to request a technician to fix the issue. They attempted to convince me that their system was producing power and acting nominally: "Good news, its producing power!" the technician proudly voiced. After explaining to the "technician" on the other end that its irrelevant as its constantly disconnected from the grid (during peak hours) he attempted to distract me by running me through a set of steps to turn on and off the unit (likely hoping that the error code would disappear for long enough to get me off the line). He continuously interrupted me and attempted to steer the conversation when I tried to make the point that a technician was necessary. When the fault code reappeared moments after turning on the unit he ended with, "our technicians will continue to monitor your unit and will call you back if there is an issue." As if the months worth of logs showing frequent faults wasn't enough to send a technician out. Sunpower is the unprofessional kind of company that nobody should get into a 20-year lease with. These solar contracts are near impossible to get out once your in them and they make reselling homes very challenging. You basically inherit the remainder of the lease and there is almost nothing you can do to get out of them. If they want to screw you and breach the contract your only actions are legal. Any company that forces you into such a lease and doesn't jump at a chance to resolve your issue properly and deliver their end of the contract is not a company worth doing business with. Might as well make a deal with the devil. I'm giving them a week to resolve the issue before I file a breach-of-contract lawsuit. Absolutely pitiful way of running a business. read more

We were very happy with the installation of our Sun Power Solar Panels a few years ago. They were installed by Solar Topps. When we had a problem with one inverter going down, they(Solar Topps) notified us immediately that our panels were not producing normally. They fairly quickly came out and replaced the inverter. This time no communication from Solar Topps ( no longer working with Sun Power) and no communication from Sun Power who is monitoring our system. I only figured out we had a problem when our electric bill came and went from $ 20 to $200+. A real shocker. I finally got thru to Sun Power and did a self/home reset. No success, we needed a service call. Now please look at the time line. Solar panels stopped producing as intended the last week of MARCH. I contacted them the first week of June when I received my electric bill of $200+. I now have an appointment for service at 6:45 AM on the 30th OF JULY. That is 19 WEEKS AFTER SERVICE WENT DOWN AND 10 WEEKS AFTER I CONTACTED THEM TELLING THEM THERE IS A PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I understand Corona Virus etc. However this is ridiculous. They had great representation thru Solar Topps. The got rid of them for an unknown reason, my guess is to save money. Well they may be saving money but it is costing us a fortune. We are retired seniors both with disabilities. Just for reference we live in the Phoenix AZ area where today will heat up to 112 degrees. I am not sure that our AC has had much rest lately and we are still 6 weeks away from a fix. read more

Updating my previous review - Since my unfavorable posting on Yelp, I was contacted by a customer service manager from SunPower who made me feel a lot better about the company. Even though he couldn't do anything about the previous mistakes that caused my inverter to take 4 months to get replaced, he listened to my assessment of the issues and seemed to be serious about taking corrective actions. In addition, he proactively reviewed my installation, upgraded my monitoring system and made sure everything was up and running nicely afterwards. I appreciated knowing that there was someone in SunPower management who seemed to truly care about customer support, and who took such proactive steps to win back this customer's loyalty. read more

We moved into our home in June of 2017. Our hope is to be there for a long time and decided to invest in solar. I researched for months and looked at various companies, but ultimately decided to go with SunPower. Our sales rep was knowledgeable and very responsive (before and after the sale). We purchased 30 panels and so far we've been producing more energy than we are using. There were just a few hiccups along the way. On the day of installation the installers recommended a different layout to avoid shadowing from the chimney, which we agreed to. Well, no one at SunPower thought to submit new drawings to the county inspector so that caused a failed inspection (plus a sticker was missing), and obviously a delay in going live. Nonetheless, everything was finally resolved by end of January and we got permission to operate in Feb 2018. So far so good.... read more

By far the worst company I have ever done business with. I wish I could put a lower rating than zero. I wish there was a way to keep people from going through the same terrible few years that I have gone through. See my review of Harmon Solar for more info on why you should not choose either Harmon Solar or SunPower. Long story short is my panels do not work correctly. And the monitoring sucks. Now the long story. There have been outages to the panels production and my bill to the electric company continues to go up. I tried to get SunPower to look at my system. They say everything is fine. When you sign a lease with them you give up the right to have another company look to see if there is anything wrong with "your" system. Technically it is their system. I have proof that the system was down based on production statistics that my local power provider gladly informed me of. Once your system stops working you lose all "credits" or banked usage. Then you start to get charged from the power company. I argued for over a year about the issue. They don't care. If you have an solar production outage and lose your credits that has a monetary value but they will not reimburse you for that. My system was down for weeks because their monitoring was broke. All credits got used up. The bill went from $35 to the power company to nearly $150 before I found out what was going on. With all the credits being gone my bill has been higher ever since. My usage year over year went up and they will point that out to me. However they refuse to acknowledge that their system is continuing to produce less and less. Stay away from SunPower. I have had several friends and family get solar since I had my unit put on and I told all of them to stay away from Harmon Solar and SunPower. Hope this helps to save someone else some grief. I chose SunPower solar because of their solar panel design and there power output. The system uses fewer panels and has a longer warranty. The microinverter on each panel is innovative and unique to their system. The installation headed by Ken Melton was seamless, on time, and efficient. Going solar seems like a wonderful idea, if you can afford it. We decided to pay extra (!!) and choose the company that promotes itself as "the best". What a mistake. We contracted in August 2020 with Sunpower to install a 12-panel solar array and back-up battery system, which they promised to install on our Mill Valley CA house by November 1. Delays to their battery supply meant that the hardware was not installed till the 3 days leading up to Thanksgiving. And... they switched it on, and nothing worked... There followed almost FIVE MONTHS of grief, recrimination and hassle. The licensed installers (ESA-Solar) blamed Sunpower for defective parts, Sunpower blamed ESA for incompetent installation. We had half-a-dozen visits, by teams ranging from FIVE people (with huge, obstructive vans) to one "regional expert" who had to drive over 150 miles to reach us, and had to visit twice. Countless emails and phone calls revealed that the system was not communicating properly with our (business-strength, very fast) wi-fi, nor with Sunpower itself. Parts were replaced, the system was rewired (because, by mistake, 220-volt items like the hot tub had been wired into the solar array. Neighbors started to become very sick of the endless Sunpower visits with traffic disruption and noise. And so did we. Long story short, a senior honcho from Sunpower head office in Austin TX finally had to take over the whole shambles, to sort things out. But nothing will compensate for the anxiety, wasted time etc. The final set-up works well (for now!) but I advise you to think very hard before contracting with these people. read more
